Path of a Bullet - A Collection of Short Stories featuring Ike

Rate this book
There are plenty of heroes in the world of crime-fiction, each with their own personality and style.
Ike has earned a seat at that table, but, being Ike, he prefers to find his own table…and let others sit with him.
A former US Navy SEAL, Ike’s current position as an enforcer for a local bookie often puts him in close contact with an element of society most of us fortunately never see. These encounters usually lead to trouble and Ike routinely inserts himself at the center of it all to make sure innocent people aren’t hurt. Ike has a tendency to...shall we say...bend some of the rules...and even break a few on occasion, but his moral compass is always strong and true.
It’s this very behavior that has readers of Tim Baker’s novels calling him “Robin Hood on a Harley or “…an off-white knight in shining armor.
Thirteen Stories.
One hero.
Path of a Bullet explodes from the barrel with the first tale about Ike’s encounter with a not-so-scrupulous Santa and follows a deadly trajectory until it hits a bull's-eye with a Thanksgiving story that has Ike questioning his purpose in life.
Ike dispenses justice at a rapid-fire pace until the only danger in Flagler Beach is a traffic jam on A1A.

...great short stories don’t come much punchier than this...

...for afficianados of clever, solid, pacy action writing, PATH OF A BULLET is for you... a compilation of great short stories dressed up as a loose calendar of events spins around Ike, an improbable, roustabout hero... ex-Seal, six-feet-five, 275 pounds of muscle, carefree by nature, but caring by inclination... a modern off-white Knight in shining armour, likes his beer, his liquor, and his ladies... most of whom seem to have need of the self-dispensing justice and skills that his past has endowed him with...

...Ike’s principal source of income comes from heavy-duty collection work for a local bookmaker in Florida’s Flagler Beach and St. Augustine, and provides a baseline for the stories...

...Tim Baker’s ear for punchy narrative runs through this rapid-fire collection, in which a few hand-picked author pals have also contributed... Ike is an enduring character you can’t help but take to, although some of his methods will have you winching...

This is a good book! Baker's main character, Ike, is the guy we all want to be. Tough but yet charming. Handsome but not egotistical. The guest authors have kept Ike in his true form and did justice to his persona. There was only one ending to one of these short stories that left me confused but overall this is a very entertaining collection. I like this character. I highly recommend this book.

Regional Florida crime fiction comes in many flavors, but the very best is character driven. From Tim Dorsey’s comedy capers with anti-heroes, Serge and Coleman, to Randy Wayne White’s serious crime dramas with Doc and Hannah, branding a style comes after years of developing remarkable, distinguishable characters. With more of the very best, Tim Baker has accomplished this with his anti-hero, Ike. Ike is, “Just a guy, but he’s unforgettable. A lady’s man and real man’s man on a Harley, who also owns a cabin cruiser, Ike serves his special brand of justice along A1A on Flagler Beach, where Tim Baker also resides.

I first met Tim through a blog interview and seeing that he wrote crime fiction and resided in Florida, my home state, I introduced him to my husband, a rocket scientist and avid crime fiction reader. After reading the first book, Living the Dream, he immediately bought the remaining five; No Good Deed, Pump it Up, Water hazard, Unfinished Business, and Backseat to Justice. Tim recently released a new novel, Eyewitness Blues, and the rocket scientist quickly snapped it up. He shared these with me, and now I’m addicted. Ike has become a household name in our home.

If you already know Ike, you’ll be glad to see he’s busier than ever, and learn some things you never knew. If you haven’t been introduced to Ike, this collection of short stories is a wonderful way to make his acquaintance. He’s definitely a guy you want in your corner. What’s more, Ike has developed a fan base and several fans have written short stories about him, sometimes pairing him in stories with their own characters. Always supporting other authors, Tim has included these contributions, so this anthology offers the added benefit of reading some terrific works by other talented writers.

Have you ever wondered what your favorite characters are doing in-between the books you read about them? Tim gives us a whole year of Ike in these clever short stories and his fans creatively blend this memorable anti-hero into their works. This is an entertaining collection you are certain to enjoy.

Tim Baker has introduced me to a brand new tough guy to enjoy his life. IKE is a great character and these short stories show you just that. Will be getting my hands on Tim's earlier works.
