I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Cate's parents raised her to follow in their adventurous antique hunting footsteps. With her sidekick lady's maid Grey, she is currently on the hunt for Dyrnwyn, a legendary flaming sword that is one of the 13 Arthurian treasures. Finding this sword will not only be a significant archeological find but legitimize her in the heavily dominant male artifact hunting world. Elijah is a former Captain who has come back to England from Australia because his older brother died and he is now the Earl. He has a tapestry that Cate thinks is really a map that will lead her to Dyrnwyn. Others in search of the sword think the same thing and Elijah starts to sense that maybe his brother's death wasn't so accidental after all. Cate and Elijah pair up as he searches out his brother's killer and Cate looks for the sword. They dodge and fight miscreants as they stumble upon another hidden treasure, love.

Romancing the Earl is second in the series in which Cate's parents starred in the first (The de Valery Code). There are a couple little nuggets of information you would miss out on if you didn't read the previous book involving the Arthurian treasures storyline but this is a solid book on its own. This is a road romance where our couple is constantly traveling the road but it does take a while for things to start rolling. The beginning is a little slower with the focus on explaining the Arthurian treasures and their legend. Through Cate and Elijah separately we learn about the different players in the game and the adventure side of the story unfolds first. It was about 30% in that I felt like things started to get rolling and I felt more engaged.

Cate is definitely a woman ahead of her time, she doesn't want to get married and feels she should be accepted the same as any man in the archeological field. Her parent's attitude and how they raised her give legitimacy to her feelings but the way she gallivants around the countryside with only her maid in tow and then alone with Elijah seem a bit farfetched for the times. Her sexual freedom attitude was, while fun to read in regards to how it teased Elijah, again, a bit modern. I did like her character as Cate was very analytical but also softly emotional that made her enjoyable to follow along and read. Elijah was more of a man of his time, with his back getting up a couple times with how Cate acted. He accepted and obviously fancied Cate's more liberal attitude but would try to temper her more radical leadings if they would put her in danger, whether physically or reputation wise. The little side anecdotes of him missing his horse in Australia and how he never felt loved by his mother gave him a more rounded out feeling. He's not a character that will jump off the pages but he felt real.

These two characters fit very well together, I believed in their relationship. I adored how Cate would occasionally shock Elijah off balance and leave him teetering. In the beginning, when they were first starting to let their eyes linger on one another, they also had a wonderful sharp tension that sent tingles up the spine. Their bedroom scenes were appealing sensual, they were filled with real emotion and sexual warmth. Their relationship was just at times smothered a bit by the treasure hunt. There is also a secondary romance between Cate's companion Grey and Elijah's companion Wade but it's enough of a side story that I never felt too invested in it.

Overall, I felt like the adventure and romance arcs didn't quite mesh in the beginning and it bogged the pace down some. Everything doesn't quite jump off the pages but it's still a pleasing story with pleasing characters. Future hero characters were introduced and I plan on continuing to read because I'm interested enough to see what other cupid havoc the rest of the Arthurian treasures can cause.

Romacing the Earl is the second book in Darcy Burke's Legendary Rogues series and is a historical romance and adventure following Elijah and Cate as they work together to recover a lost treasure.

I loved this book between the amount of history nerds in this book and the adventure, it was perfect. I enjoyed the first book of the series, but I found enjoyed Romancing the Earl so much better. And speaking of the first book, Lady of Desire, Cate is actually the daughter of the two main characters from that book and it was lovely to be able to see them again in this book.

Cate, with her father and brother both influential men in the realm of antiquities, she feels overshadowed and overlooked as a woman in the field. She's determined to make a name for herself, separate from the work of others in her family and I loved her tenacity and nerdy nature. I loved when Elijah was frequently exasperated by her forthright nature. I adored him, he was a little closed off, but his sense of duty is what made him such a great character to begin with.

The romance and connection between the characters are just right, but what really brought the book together for me was the balance between that and the adventure that they undertake, danger and all.

Although this book is part of a series and the characers are connected(and are in fact even connected to an earlier series), I think you can comfortably read Romancing the Earl as a stand-alone should you wish to without suffering any confusion. I like this series so far and am loving to follow the danger as the main characters search for the treasures of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. I'm looking forward to starting the next book in the series, Lord of Fortune soon and I'll be looking forward to seeing how thing will turn out for Kersey later in the series.

ARC provided by the Publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

I must admit that this series greatly intrigued me. I am a fan of archeology and antiquities. As a matter of fact, the Indiana Jones movies are my favorite and the British Museum was #1 on my places to visit in London. The romance of uncovering unknown pieces from the past is a powerful lure. So, I thought this book would be something that fed that need for vicarious adventure. It did, sort of. What I wanted, romance, adventure, mystery and suspense, it delivered, but in a very tame, civilized manner.

Cate is a very intelligent woman who wants to make a splash in the male dominated 1800's as an antiquarian. She has a lead on an artifact that is purported to be the sword of one of King Arthur's knights. It appears a tapestry is also a map to its' location and that tapestry is missing (or lost, or hidden). Elijah is the new Earl of Norris. It is his tapestry Cate is after. Elijah's brother, the previous Earl, was killed in a coach accident, but was it really an accident?

Elijah and Cate are attracted to each other, but they both deny it, neither one wants to get married. But, they are reluctantly are working together to solve the mystery of the tapestry and the death of Elijah's brother and falling in love with each other. Lots of twists and an ending that leaves part of a mystery to be resolved in a future book.

Romancing the Earl is the second book in Legendary Rogues series by Darcy Burke. I haven't read the first in the series, yet didn't feel as if I was missing anything when I read this book.

This book and the series revolves around 13 mythical artefacts that belong to Arthur's knights of the round table. In this book, the artefact in question is Drynwyn, a sword that flames when held by a worthy person, a descendant of the knights of the round table.

Cate Bowen is the daughter of a famous antiquarian father. Her brother is one too so it's no surprise that Cate has a love for the vocation too. Unfortunately, being a woman she isn't taken seriously. To her, finding Drynwyn would be a dream come true, not to mention earning her worth as an antiquarian. She knows of a tapestry that is meant to be a map showing the sword's location. The owner of it is Major Elijah Hollister, a former soldier now Lord Norris.

Elijah's brother's dreadful death in a carriage accident means that he is now the Earl. It's something he never wanted to be, and certainly not at the expense of his brother's life. When Cate arrives at his door in search of the tapestry it is then that he puts two and two together and starts to think that it was in his brother's possession and that it was stolen from him. It also means that the incident was no accident.

So begins Cate and Elijah's adventure together. Cate to find the tapestry and hopefully then the sword. Elijah to discover his brother's murderer and bring justice to him. Along the way, they face danger, excitement, and a growing appreciation of each other. They try to fight off their attraction but the longer they spend together the harder it gets. When they finally give in to their passions the scenes are beautifully written and steamy hot. Neither thinks anything can come of it as neither of them wants marriage in their futures. Besides they have to concentrate on their quest not on their growing feelings for each other.

What I really loved about his story is that alongside the fabulous romance of it, there was the thrilling story of Arthur, his knights and the missing artefacts. The search for the tapestry, then the sword was thrilling, as too was the tale told about the groups/persons also interested in the sword and why they wanted it. An absolutely fascinating story from beginning to end with never a dull moment. I am definitely going to read this whole series because every book is bound to be just as thrilling, if not more so as the search for other artefacts continues!

I really do love to read Darcy Burke’s books . Her style of writing is so addictive and I find myself hooked from the beginning.
Lord Elijah Norris has only just come into his title on his brothers death , so with the estate needing funds ,he decides to sell the some of antiquities that were collected over the years by his predecessors .
Cate Bowen has been searching for recognition , to be known as more than a woman in a mans world .
She tries to purchase a tapestry from him that contains a map , the map leading her to something she knows will impress others in her field.
However at first he’s not inclined to be of help even if he new where it was .
Their relationship is primed, and now the fun begins , these two are great together , feeding off the energy coming from these characters is so enjoyable, they are witty and so much fun to read .
There’s a hint of tension and a dash of danger too as in all great books .
This is no.2 in The Legendary Rogues , and it’s a superb series.
I received an advance copy of this book and chose to submit a review

Romancing the Earl is the second book in Ms Burke’s Regency Treasure Hunters series, which began with . That story is set some twenty-two years earlier and tells the story of Rhys and Margery Bowen, whose daughter, Cate, is the heroine of this book. While there are a couple of references to some of the elements of the storyline in book one which are carried over, Romancing the Earl works well as a standalone, with a nicely built romance and an intriguing adventure plot.

Major Elijah Hollister has recently returned to England from Australia, where he was stationed for a number of years. His return was occasioned by the recent and unexpected death of his brother Matthew, the Earl of Norris, which has left Elijah both bereft and in possession of an earldom he doesn’t want.

Completely out of the blue, he receives a visit from a lovely young woman who introduces herself as Catriona Bowen. She loses no time in informing him that she wishes to purchase a medieval tapestry she believes is part of the collection of antiquities Elijah has inherited from the distant cousin who was the holder of the title before Matthew. When she goes on to explain that the tapestry may well contain a clue as to the location of a priceless Arthurian artefact known as the Sword of Dyrnwyn, Elijah is suspicious of her true intent and when, during the course of their conversation, Catriona explains that she is not the only person interested in the tapestry and the information it may contain, Elijah comes to the realisation that perhaps his brother’s death was no accident.

While he has no real interest in the tapestry other than as it relates to his brother’s death, Elijah is determined to investigate and find out the truth. He and Catriona form an uneasy alliance; if Matthew was murdered by whoever was after the tapestry, then helping to recover it may provide clues as to the identity of his brother’s killers.

What follows is a road-trip story during which the Earl and Catriona accompanied by their respective servants, Wade and Grey travel from his Wiltshire home to Harlech in Wales, finding clues and confronting the dangerous gang who are also in pursuit of the treasure.

While the story is perhaps a little slow to start, spending time as it does introducing the reader to the various players in the story and explaining the legends behind the Arthurian treasures of which the Sword of Dyrnwyn is one - once the journey really gets underway, the pacing picks up, and I found myself much more drawn in.

The two principals are attractive, engaging characters whose past experiences (him) and unconventional lifestyle (her) have decided both of them against long-term entanglements, but who are nonetheless unable to ignore the growing attraction between them. The romantic and sexual tension between them is built up very well, and even though Cate’s attitude towards sex is rather too modern for the time, I nonetheless enjoyed how her forwardness was contrasted with Elijah’s insistence on propriety and the way she could throw him completely off balance with a veiled suggestion or look.

In fact, Cate is a very forward-thinking young woman who wants nothing more than to be taken seriously as an academic in a time when women weren’t supposed to have brains or to be able to think for themselves. I did find it a little hard to believe that her parents would have allowed her to gallivant about the country with only her companion in tow; regardless of their confidence in Cate’s common sense and her resourcefulness, the middle of nowhere in the English countryside could be a very dangerous place to be.

Elijah is slightly less well defined, although Ms Burke adds some lovely little touches to his backstory which help to flesh him out. He’s charming, dependable and possesses the kind of quiet competence that is very attractive, as well as being the sort of hero who may be a bit uptight on the surface but is a bit of a devil between the sheets ;-). I was, however, rather surprised by his actions towards the end of the story, when the conclusions he reaches about his brother’s death cause him to act in a way that’s completely out of character.

There are a few inconsistencies in the story (like the fact that Bradford is nowhere near Bath; the author obviously means Bradford-upon-Avon, but this British reader had to think about it, because to us, Bradford is “up north) and the reasons behind Elijah’s poor relationship with his mother are never fully explored or given closure. Cate’s stated determination never to disgrace her family name is somewhat at odds with the way she travels around independently all the time. And personally, I have a problem with the concept that King Arthur actually existed. The treasures which are being sought during this series are all reputed to be artefacts that were owned by Arthur and his knights, thus proving the legendary king’s existence. I know this is fiction, but that requires me to stretch my credulity just a bit too far.

Apart from those things, though Romancing the Earl is a well-written, enjoyable romp, featuring a couple of likeable protagonists, a sensual romance and a nicely-crafted adventure plot. Ms Burke has set things up well for the next couple of books in the series, and I’m sure I’ll be checking them out.

This is the second book In the " Legendary Rogues " & again Darcy kept up to my expectations ... a excellently written story which continues with the daughter of Rhys & Margery's daughter ( Catriona Bowen ) who is the heroine of the story...

the story introduces us to Miss Catriona Bowen, who is on a quest to find one of the lost treasures of Brittan & Elijah Hollister who was a soldier living in Australia but dueto the untimely & suspicious death of his elder brother inherits the Earldom ,becomes a reluctant Earl.Together, they set off on a journey to uncover the truth and find a priceless treasure which is purported to be the sword of one of King Arthur's knights. It appears a tapestry is also a map to its' location and that tapestry is missing (or lost, or hidden).

I love the character of Catriona , intelligent, independent, bold, smart. She is full of fire and spirit., doesnt back down from challenge. In the Regency era having such attributes as a women is a statement in itself. Elijah pays her the highest compliment by telling her she is the smartest woman he has ever met. She is bold as brass and wily as a fox.The plot was interesting. I liked the mystery and the efforts to search and investigate were very well done. At times Cate became annoying in her insistence that she had to insert herself every where Elijah was trying to gather information.
Darcy Burke is a marvel at writing adventure filled with lotsof action, intrigue, Romance , sizzling chemistry , sensual presentation of a story ..You will be thrilled with this series. interesting. I truly love they way the author writes her characters, with heart and feeling.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good mystery and a great Regency romance Also thank u Darcy for making me a member of your ARC team as feel it is an honour & delight to Review ur books ...

Darcy Burk shines again in a scholarly adventure romance.

One of the best things about Darcy's stories are that she takes these two characters you could never see falling in love, and just makes it work. At the beginning of the story, I was quite skeptical about these two. They just did not seem like they would fit together. To my great joy, I was proved wrong again.

This story is wonderful. The characters are excellent. The flow is fantastic. Darcy makes you care about this story, their quest, and their love story. It's fantastic.

Recommended for all fans of scholarly historical romance.

Book Two: Romancing the Earl - available now!
Book Three: Raiders of the Lost Heart - late 2015/early 2016
Book Four: The Legacy of an Extraordinary Gentleman - late 2016

I have read the first book in this series which features Cate’s parents, Rhys and Margery. The de Valery Code was a great start to this series and this book keeps the excitement going. As a kid I really loved the Indiana Jones movies. Dashing from one dangerous situation to another in search of priceless artifacts is what this book and the movies have in common. The exception being that in a book you get to know the characters better as their thoughts are examined and explored.
Cate and Elijah meet when she approaches him to find and purchase a tapestry in the late Lord’s collection. While Elijah is intrigued by Cate and her proposal, he is still reeling from his brother’s death, his return from military duty in Australia and the duties of the Earlship. Cate and Elijah dance around each other and one of their ‘things is to create a list of personality attributes. Sometimes the adjectives are mocking and at times they are flattering. In honour of this witty collection of personality traits, I will create my own list of all the things I liked about this book!
1. I liked Cate SO much! She has such fire and spirit. For living in the Regency era, she is so independent. Elijah pays her the highest compliment by telling her she is the smartest woman he has ever met. She is bold as brass and wily as a fox.
2. Cate is determined to remain single as no man would allow her the freedoms her parents have given her. She wants to keep control over her future. Yet, she longs to experience everything that life has to offer. This includes the experience between a man and a woman in the bedchamber. She literally hounded Elijah to sleep with her. It was so amusing to read the pithy lines that Elijah would spew at her to keep her at arm’s length. His indignant responses to her attempts at seduction were so hilarious. He was the prude to her vixen.
3. When they finally get it on, it was awesome! Darcy Burke knows how to write great love scenes. Elijah is an experienced man and he makes their first time together one for the memory books.
4. The mystery of the sword of Dyrnwyn was exciting. It was a well thought out and conceived mystery. They race across England and Wales searching for clues that would lead them closer to finding the sword of one of King Arthur’s knights.
5. My favourite quote was, “You spend days campaigning for me to take you to bed, and you want to question why? He arched a brow at her. “I’m a man. You came into my room in the middle of the night.

This was a fast paced story that was exciting and interesting. I loved learning more about Wales and the Welsh people. Cate was an irrepressible woman with passion and zest for life. She made Elijah more fun and he came to life because of her love. This is a definite must add to your book lists!

Once again Darcy Burke takes an interesting story and slowly turns it into magic. Yeah, so not fair as far as talent goes but for those of us with less skills, what a gift she gives us.

Romancing the Earl is book two in Ms. Burke's Regency Treasure Hunters Series and it tells the story of Catriona Bowen, the daughter of Margery and Rhys from The de Valery Code. So a generation has gone by and the mysteries of the 7 treasures remain.

Miss Catriona Bowen is the daughter of a famed Antiquinarian (?) her entire life she has watched her father and enjoyed his knowledge. Secure in a loving family, Catri was encouraged to think for herself but when she went out into the real world? Yeah no one really respected her brain. But she was going to show them, she was going to find one of the artifacts, a powerful sword belonging to one of the knights of the round table. And she even has a starting place, The Earl of Norris.

Major Elijah Hollister has just become the Earl of Norris. He was perfectly happy being a soldier in Australia, he had a good life but when first his distant cousin, then his brother died, he got the title and all the stuff that came with it. Including an incredibly large collection and in that collection a certain tapestry.. Not that he cared about said tapestry (or the collection for that matter) until Miss Catriona Bowen bowls into his life. Learning that it might be the clue to his brother's death certainly gets his attention.

Once again Ms Burke takes us to a practical world filled with magic. Ok no magic but mystery and myth. The search for the treasures to be shared with the world is constantly put in the path of those who want the treasures to remain hidden and even worse, those who will do whatever it takes to own them as they are the "true" owners. The descendants of the Knights of the Round Table. Murder and Mayhem are on the menu and Catriona and Elijah have to maneuver away from it all. And still find the sword..

Then of course the question of who the sword really belongs to? The people? The Order? The descendants?

And toss in the fact of two people who could not be farther apart in who they are, are thrown together. Can they accept that the other offers them something special? That the true treasure is the love they have forged? Could you?

Cati and Elijah are one of those pairs that appear to have nothing in common, including chemistry. If taken at face value they are rather boring. But that's where Ms. Burke's true talent comes in. She slowly weaves her own tapestry and with each thread creates a picture worth enjoying. It's not always easy and it certainly isn't fast but the end result? A story worth reading! This was one of those books that in the beginning I kept wondering what the heck? And by the end? I was so irked when the story ended. Seriously Irked.

It had one interesting aspect in the fact that I had read book one. I will tell you now, if you read it when it came out, read it again before you start this book. I found some of the nuances nagged at me because they weren't on the tip of my tongue.. Now if you haven't read book one of course I am going to recommend you read it but if you don't I think you will enjoy it immensely even without reading book one.

An exceptionally well written book..

Cate Bowen grew up with an antiquarian father and brother which fueled her desire for the same field. The problem men (with the exception of her father or so she thought) do not acknowledge female antiquarians and highly discourage their interest in the field. To prove she is worthy of the title “antiquarian Cate is determined to find Dyrnwyn, the flaming sword, one of thirteen treasures of Britain from the time of Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. After all, this is Cate’s passion and calling having sworn off marriage due to a failed love interest. When Cate stumbles upon a poem from the time of King Arthur in her father’s study that gives a clue to the existence of the sword, Cate is first hurt then more determined to find the sword to prove to her father and other antiquarians that females are worthy of the title antiquary.
With the help of her faithful companion, Grey, Cate learns of a tapestry that is said to be a hidden map one that leads to Dyrnwyn which lands her on the doorstep of Lord Norris.
Major Elijah Hollister, former soldier now Lord Norris, has inherited an Earldom upon the unexpected death of his brother. An Earldom and a house overflowing with antiquities that he does not want. The only thing he wants, given his childhood where his mother wanted nothing to do with him and his father drank himself into an early grave, is to live his life alone.
When a very persistent young lady appears on his doorstep asking to by a tapestry, Elijah is at first irritated at having his time interrupted and denies knowing where this tapestry is. Until she mentions it could contain a treasure map. This catches his attention as his brother’s last letter mentions a treasure but nothing further. His soldier instincts kick in and he begins to wonder if his brother’s death was an accident after all. After questioning his butler, Elijah is more certain that is the case and this tapestry is somehow involved.
As Elijah reluctantly accepts Cate’s help they embark on a quest to find the tapestry and the truth. A quest filled with danger and simmering passion.
Will they find the tapestry and is it a map? Will Cate and Elijah go their separate ways if they find the tapestry or will they continue to work together to find the sword and person/persons responsible for his brother’s death? What will happen if they do? Will Cate realize the sword isn’t as important to her as she thought? Will Elijah exact revenge no matter the consequences?
Darcy Burke writes an excellent story filled with teasing banter, adventure and with lots of twists and turns that will keep you on your toes. Plus delicious hints of what could be possible stories in the future.
Even though this is part of series it can be read alone but why deprive yourself of some awesome reading?!! I know I’m anxiously waiting to see who & what treasure Ms. Burke writes about next!

Elijah was living happily in Australia as an officer in the Army. When his brother dies in an accident, he must return to England and take his place as an Earl. That is not what he expected in his life.

Catriona (Cate) is an antiquarian who arrives at Elijah's doorstep to explain that in the huge treasure collection in his home, there is a special tapestry which is a secret treasure map. As her story progresses, Elijah begins to believe that his brother's accident may have been something other than an accident.

I am a fan of history, and the idea of a secret in a tapestry is something that immediately, drew me into the story.

The character development was well done. I liked both Cate and Elijah. They were the people they were because of their history. She has a huge knowledge about antiquities and yet because she is a woman, the people in charge will not even speak to her. Elijah was emotionally abandoned by his mother. He loved his brother very much, but he was never treated in a kindly manner by his mother. That has colored his view of the world and especially his view of women.

I was disappointed, when it seemed to me that a great deal of today crept into the story. There did not seem to be much effort to prevent the characters from speaking as though they lived in the 21st century. That was jarring to me. I am not a stickler, but for me this was too out of place.

The plot was interesting. I liked the mystery and the efforts to search and investigate were very well done. At times Cate became annoying in her insistence that she had to insert herself every where Elijah was trying to gather information.

I have not read other works by Ms Burke, but I will do so. It is evident she is a talented author.

It wasn't bad, the author is clearly talented and i'm open to read more of her works, still i had a few issues:
-This is really personal, but I kept comparing it to A week to be wicked or some of Jenn Bennet's 20's mystery series and it just wasn't as good. The mystery was fun, but not as exciting as it could've been, i kept waiting for more action sequences and fun discoveries and they just never came.
- I wasn't a huge fan of Elijah, he was a bit stuffy and stubborn for my taste, the chemistry between the leads was a bit lacking for me, and they resolved all their feelings and issues waay to quickly and neatly in the last chapter. I didn't fully buy into their love for one another. I kept feeling like Cate should have been matched with someone a bit cooler, the likes of Colin Sandhurst.
-The climax and ending were again, rushed and resolved too fast, the emotions the characters were feeling, changed too quickly to be realistic and I didn't feel like every conflict was wrapped up satisfactorily.

Any one that follows my reviews know that I love a strong and fearless female character. Darcy Burke delivered that with Catriona. Never afraid to speak her mind and go after what she wanted, definitely not a damsel in distress. Elijah is one of those stoic characters who doesn't trust very easily yet is drawn to this enigma of a woman. He knows more is going on and wants answers. Romancing the Earl is a historical adventure that will leave you spellbound. I know I was. Received an ARC of this story for an honest review.

📝 Review/Notes 📝

Definitely better than the first in the series, but overall underwhelming and forgettable. Just *ok* - not very exciting, despite trying to be. I didn’t feel much of a connection to the characters or investment in their story.

Why was Kersey the “worthy one the sword lit up for, after robbing people, including his cousin, and employing thugs, despite saying he didn’t want anyone to get hurt? He seemed like a weak character, so the author must be setting him up for his own book, but I don’t want it.

Not much character development?

Some things were super obvious like that the thread on the back would be forming a clue.

A page-turning romantic adventure from start to finish!

Cate is exactly the kind of female lead I adore—independent, fiery, determined, intelligent, and not at all a society lady—while Elijah has all the sarcastic charm, heart-warming protectiveness, and damaged hero qualities that are so easy to fall in love with.
I really enjoyed the way they kept making lists of each other’s “characteristics, whether positive or negative, as well as the fact they spent enough time together on their journey, building their relationship, to make their falling in love believable and realistic (none of that, meet once or twice, then propose marriage stuff).

They were such a fun, perfectly matched duo, especially with their sidekicks Ward and Grey (who’s romance I was also invested in!), and I was honestly a little sad when the book ended and I couldn’t get more of them.

I’m kinda hoping the Ladies Antiquities Society somehow makes a resurgence in a future series, because a formidable group of women going on adventures is definitely my cup of tea!

Overall this book had, for me, the perfect balance of tingle-inducing build-up, hot steamy scenes, and exciting action, with lots of interesting historical and Arthurian lore interspersed throughout (whether real or make believe).

If you’ve ever read and loved Kresley Cole’s historical romances, with her strong, rule-breaking women and brave, brooding men, you’ll enjoy every second of this!

Major Elijah Hollister never wanted to be an earl, particularly not when it meant losing his brother Matthew. When a bold adventuress shows up at his door seeking a treasure map, Elijah suspects his brother’s death may not have been accidental and that the lady knows more than she’s willing to share. Miss Catriona Bowen can almost taste the fruits of her years-long quest to find one of Britain’s greatest treasures. The discovery will deliver the recognition and respect she deserves as an antiquary, despite the fact that she’s a woman. However, to find the map that will lead her to success, she must ally herself with a stoic, yet provocative gentleman with a different goal. And when a villain threatens their lives, she realizes too late that love is the greatest treasure of all.
I was drawn in from the start & gripped until the end. I’d somehow missed this book & as I’ve read the other three books in the series reading this filled in some of gaps. It could be read on its own but the whole series about the 13 artefacts is so very good. Well paced story & believable characters had me enthralled from start to finish. I loved Elijah & Cate & their journey to a HEA
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

The Major in this story is heart stoppingly HOT. Goodness, I love me a standoffish man, who is hard to laugh, but passionate and has a sense of honor and humor. There is NOTHING better than that for me, and he just ticked all of my boxes. He is still reeling from having to leave the military and his lovely horse in Australia to come and fulfill his duty and the new Duke of Norris. Not something he ever thought would happen to him, as he has never been prepared for the role, and his mother constantly reminded him, that he was nothing like his older by a year brother. Hence why he left.
In walks Catriona Bowen, (Penn's sister from Lord of Fortune) and her trusty Friend Grey. Together they need to first find who killed his brother, and find the Sword of Dyrnwyn, as she is also a antiquarian, much like her brother and family. This will be her first find, as she is constantly looked down on for being a woman, and has something to prove to everyone. They need to do this together for protection, but they are constantly at cross purposes and untrusing of each other, which makes for a fun story, filled with humor and danger. Its a brilliant story!!!!

I love the history in this series (some true, some embellished, all fun & interesting) and although it is a stand alone novel; I suggest reading the series in publication order - the characters are all so worth getting to know.

Needing funds for his newly gained title because of this brother's death, Lord Elijah Norris must part with some antiquities that had been saved over the years by his ancestors.

Cate Bowen has an uphill battle in trying to gain recognition & a foothold in the man's world of archeology. She leans that Elijah is selling some of his treasures & she attempts to buy a tapestry that contains a map - one that may take her to the recognition she has been seeking.

However; Elijah is not inclined to help Cate plus the fact that he doesn't know where the map is. This is the beginning of a fantastic romance with great chemistry and witty banter plus some a little drama & danger!

Elijah, Lord Norris has just inherited his estate and title. He has rooms full of antiquities that he needs to sell to replenish the coffers. Cate, Miss Bowen comes for a visit but really wants to buy a tapestry that may be part of a map to one of King Arthur 's treasures. Thirteen treasures to gather. The items are priceless, but will only burn for King Arthur or his knights direct descendents. The Order of the Roundtable wants to control them, but every one wants them. At the end of the hunt, the treasure will be love for one lucky couple. Romancing the Earl is book two in the Legendary Rogues series. I love the handsome heroes and strong, sensual women. I found there was instant chemistry between the couples in this series. Can't wait for book three. I received this book from the author for a honest review.

Meet Lord Norris and Cate, they somehow meet, and join forces to find the sword linked to King Arthur. Imagine! its an action packed book with a lot of romance. It starts slowly though, and I would have appreciated a bit more chemistry between the two main characters as it was a bit dry in my opinion. I did enjoy the history part of the book as well as the adventure part, just in certain areas it felt a bit dragging.
Had it more romance, I would have given it 5 stars without a second thought. If you love history, and adventure this book is for you- but don't read it because it's a "romance" you will be disappointed.

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinions on the book.

I received a copy from the author; this is my honest review.
-This story happens 20-25 years after the first one.
-I loved the action, which appears almost immediately at the start of the book.
-Mystery, suspense and danger all through the book and lots of people without getting mixed up.
-I liked the interactions between Elijah and Cate, but also between Wade and Grey.
-It was pleasant to recognize people from the first book in the series.
-Funny: Miss Thimblebottom, like the villain in the Minion movie!
-The end is a bit sappy but satisfying nevertheless.
-I thought this book was better than The Lady of Desire.

What an adventure. There is nothing in this book I didn’t like ( except the sex scene which this reviewer always skips but it doesn’t affect my enjoyment of the book). There was adventure, mystery, romance and suspense. Elijah and Cat make a perfect couple, so different but still very honorable. This is the second in this new series but it is lovely to meet up with some old favourites from books in other series. Ms Burke knows how to keep the story flowing and keep you turning the page. Even though I had read the future books of this series, so I knew what was going to happen, I still found it hard to put down. If you like Indiana Jones, you will love this.

I love an adventure novel and throw in the Arthurian legend, I am so there. What I really liked about this story other than the adventure is that there is a role reversal of the aggressor. Cate knows what she wants and does not hesitate to ask for it. Elijah on the other hand is more than hesitant and that made him very likeable. Their adventures plus the secondary love story and their own love story makes this story a read great. I have read these books out of order but that is okay as they are standalones. I look forward to Kersey’s story.

I received a complimentary copy from the author.

Cate Bowen follows in her father's footsteps. The first book in the series tells about her parents and their meeting. Cate is looking for a tapestry which she hopes to find the flaming sword by a map that is suppose to be exposed. Elijah's brother was the Earl but he died in a carriage accident that may have not been an accident. Elijah wants to find his brother's killer and Cate wants to find the tapestry. They could be answered together. They team up with her chaperone and his valet to look. There is much to find and surprises along the way.

disappointing

I was disappointed in the heroine. I was expecting her to be more of an action hero only she turned out to be damsel in distress waiting to be rescued by the hero over and over again.
The dialog between the heroine and hero was supposed to be flirty, bold and slightly modern, instead it felt forced and awkward. It was so bad I was embarrassed reading it.

My favorite book in this series - I unfortunately started with book 3 and had to play catch up. As with the other women in the series Cate is intrepid and just as intelligent as the males in her family. This quest is just as eventful and intriguing as the others in the series and I'm looking forward to the last book (hopefully) in the series!

Romancing the Earl

I've never read anything by Darcy Burke I did not enjoy. This book is no exception. It has everything you could want in a book. Suspense, intrigue, and love are all in this book. I would recommend it to anyone.
