Boundary Lines by Melissa F. Olson and narrated by Kate Rudd is book two in the series. Our witch learns more tricks that are pretty cool, werewolves come into the story, giant sandworms type creatures are eating people and our witch is assigned to get rid of it. More ghost activity and much more! This is a non-stop supernatural book! Plenty of suspense, surprises, twists, creatures, wonderful plot, new characters, danger, humor, and endless entertainment!
The narrator performs the characters flawlessly! 10 stars for sure!

Not much to say about this one. It was another 3 star addition to this series. For some reason, I just don't think the books are living up to their potential. I'm not sure if it's the writing style, or the characters, or the story line. Something is just falling a little flat. Anyhoo. With that being said, it's not a bad read. Lex is a little annoying. She thinks she knows how to handle every situation better than those with way more experience. Sure, you know how to handle vampire politics better than the vampire queen. Sure, you know more about biology than the actual biologist. Of course you do. That was probably my biggest hang up with this book. Other than that, it was another easy to listen to UF and I'll probably go ahead and listen to the third book as well.

SUMMARY (50 words or less)
This installment was better. There was still some predictability, but I found I enjoyed this story better than the first. I also enjoyed the side romance between Quinn and Scarlett even though she pissed me up some.

Audio Review
Kate Rudd does a good job with narration.

Lex continues to work for Maven in order to keep her niece safe from rogue supernatural elements. When a couple of vampires go missing, Maven charges Lex with figuring out if werewolves are responsible. There is also some kind of magical reptile eating people in a nearby park. Lex also notices that Boulder's magic seems to be on the fritz. Lex eventually discovers that these three things are related once she talks to a ghost that used to be a Boundary Witch. Unfortunately, all the clues lead her to believe that the person responsible is trying to stir up another supernatural war in Colorado and Lex must stop it.

I love this world that Melissa Olson has created. I first fell in love with it by reading Scarlett's series, but Lex is pretty great too. Despite having similar jobs in the supernatural community, Lex and Scarlett are very different characters and I'm coming to appreciate Lex more and more. This mystery/crime had me intrigued throughout the book and I loved the reveal. I'm looking forward to another adventure with Lex and her friends in the next book.

Something is out of whack in the Old World and the vampires, werewolves and witches are all acting strangely. Someone is messing with the line and with Maven, Colorado's ruling vampire, in a power struggle she has entrusted her most recent employee boundary witch Lex with sorting it all out.

She finds herself not just walking the line between the supernatural groups and stopping a war, but also dealing with ghosts and an ancient predator that will require the vampires, werewolves and witches to unite if they are to have any chance of killing it.

Book two continues Lex's story as well as introducing a few new characters. It's still early in the series but this is a great discovery for me. I'm completely addicted and can't wait for book three.

I found it hard to not only get into this one (vs. the first, ) but also to stay engaged once I did. But, I've had a ton on my mind lately, so it's most likely a case of "it's not you, it's me". That said, I really do enjoy the world expansion Olson provides with this Scarlett Bernard series spin-off. I like Lex and her boundary magic abilities are intriguing. We continue to learn more about them as she does. There's a mix of supernaturals (werewolves, witches and vampires) for those who enjoy that in their UF series.

Boundary Lines picks up near 's end and Lex finds herself disliked by many in the Old World, especially the witches. Due to events in the previous installment, she aligned herself with the vamps, which isn't sitting well with many of the witches. There is more than Lex's unusual magic abilities to worry about though, several vamps have gone missing and a mysterious beast is on the prowl for food. Magic is doing odd things to Old Worlders in Boulder and Lex must figure out why.

Oh Colorado...

Boundary Lines is the second installment of the Boundary Magic series. In it, you find out that the supernatural world just can't hang lately. Unsurprisingly, someone is messing with the line and Maven. Which is causing everyone to act out. So, who are they going to call? LEX LUTHER! I mean.. Lex.

In this book, Lex is dealing with a lot of shit. I love her and Quinn together but surprisingly I really liked her and Simon too. Just as friends though - so no shipping or love triangle there folks! Now even though I like Lex.. I also don't at the same time? I just feel like she's hard to connect with at certain points in the book. That being said, I don't really have a favorite character in this book but I hope I will before this series is over.

Overall, I quite enjoyed this audio and I can't wait to dive into the next one.

This is a pretty good UF series! I’m liking the magic system- we have werewolves, vampires and witches. But somethings going on with the magic in Colorado. It’s been ramped up and Lex and her friends need to find out why. It’s a typical UF in that there is a romance but it really just goes on in the background and doesn’t get in the way of the story.

KU 3.5
This series has so far fallen rather flat, although not enough to ditch but enough for me to read another book at the same time so I can take a break. One of it’s saving graces is the quality of the writing.

The problem is that to connect with Lex is difficult. She is a one dimensional character in terms of her personal objectives and her approach to relationships. Her purpose in life is a) protect her niece b) protect her niece by maintaining her bargain with Maven, leading vampire of Boulder. The concept of protecing her niece is constantly reiterated to the point that it becomes tiresome and a repetitive sentiment.

Additionally, her relationships with those around her, bar family, are one dimensional. They all provide a service for her. Witches, Lilly and Simon, provide her with developing skills, Maven protects her bargain and Quinn helps her do that. Her relationship with Quinn romantically seems immature, even though some leeway may be given in terms of PTSD background, conversly she is tough and is no simpering virgin. As Quinn sums it up, “Don’t be a child.

Lastly, the plotline comes with no suprises and the novel meanders on with seemingly little purpose.

Melissa F. Olson's "Boundary Lines" is an excellent, engrossing book that keeps the reader's curiosity and interest until the book is finished. That and it's almost Halloween, what better time for a vampire tale? I started reading the book the other day and stayed up most of the night to finish it.
I enjoyed the plot and characters and the story flowed well. The only problem is, now I have to purchase book one!
My copy was won from the ŷ.com website. I appreciate the opportunity to read and review this book. After I get Book 1 from Amazon, that review will follow shortly.

Vampires, witches, werewolves: all that will keep them from colliding into full on war is one stubborn boundary witch and her faithful friends.

Quinn and Lex have the best written relationship in all of the Old World Series. That’s not saying much but these stories are addictive nonetheless.

Four stars for entertaining me through the build up to Thanksgiving dinner. Seriously, thank you.

This book did everything it said on the tin it would do, but maybe that was the problem. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed the book but I found the read a bit clinical and for some reason Quinn does not light my fire , the question is this enough to get me to read the next one - the jury's still out on that one.

Like this book just as much as the first one. There are adorable childrens!!!! And animals!! The strong points of the first book keep going strong in this one as well. Thinking back, I realize that the plot was really complicated with a lot of disparate pieces, but while I was reading, I was just completely absorbed and didn't get discombobulated at all!!! Good job author!!! Loved it.

I'm getting pretty bored with this series right now. Just feeling meh about it.

2/10: Lots of casual sexism that's irritating me.

The main character also makes a point to mention her rescue dogs any time she talks about her pets. She's barely home to interact with them but they're her RESCUE DOGS. God, shut up about it. And that's coming from a person with three corgi tattoos and a dog Instagram.

56% into the book, I kind of feel committed to seeing it through. But a "Frozen" reference was just made. I'm trying to unwind with a cheeseball book so I can fall asleep. I do not appreciate getting that stupid song stuck in my head from a freaking vampire book. You know how you know you should second guess what you're writing? Are you literally putting the words "The cold never bothered me anyway" into it when it's not an illustrated adaptation of the movie? Stop. Stop right now.

Also 2/10: "No, Quinn," I interrupted. "I don't want to spend my life depending on mind control to make things run smoothly. It's too much power. Too seductive." STFU, Derwood! You're a boundary witch. He's your vampire boyfriend. Stop pretending you're normal. Use the force!

Still 2/10: So this woman says she works with patients who have psychological problems. She also says "I can't heal natural-born psychological problems like manic depression but...." Did this just happen? This just happened. If Sashi actually did this work, she'd know the word is bipolar.

2/11: I'm a math student. When I read "Two of the black circles were fairly close to Boulder, and the rest all a distance away" I am going to sit there and stare at the sentence for a solid five minutes trying to figure out wtf that even means. An adjective before "a distance" would have been good here.

I decided I'm not bored with this book anymore because the writing is bad enough to be entertaining.

"Quinn had included a sharpening kit in his weapons cache, and Mary had offered to sharpen the Danish sword for me during the car ride." I mean... safety third! Right after that, the same person says "I didn't hear a word from her the whole way." She has a werewolf sharpening a sword in a moving vehicle and she's talking about it like she found a clever way to pacify a cranky baby. Just... what? What is this writing?

The best part is from the first line of the acknowledgments bit at the end. "The book you're now holding I'd arguably the most-researched project I've ever worked on...". THE MOST-RESEARCHED. But she couldn't spend thirty seconds googling to find out the term " manic-depressive" fell out of favor "a time" ago. Details matter.

Fitting into the Old World isn’t going very well for Boulder boundary witch Allison “Lex Luther: she may have earned a place in a vampire’s service, but now it seems as if every supernatural creature in town has found a reason to hate her. I wanted to love this, and don't get me wrong I liked it, and it was a strong like, but after the set up from the first book I was hoping we would dig deeper into the characters. I thought the plot was good, but the characters are feeling a little flat to me. I was even rooting for Lex and Quinn romantically speaking, but that also felt kind of flat. Where is the spark? Where is the excitement of this new relationship—the will they or won't they? There was no tease there that I would have loved to have seen. I also would love some humor mixed into the story in general.

As I said, I thought the book was good plot-wise. I really got into the whole thing between the vampires and the witches and trying to figure out who was behind things, and that was what really saved the book for me. A couple of the plot twists were a little obvious to me, but overall it was good.
Despite some disappointments, I'll continue on to the next book.

As the aftermath of book #1 , it seems that it creates dissatisfaction. Someone is playing around with magic, creating an unrest feeling. Werewolves are getting closer to the boundary. Vampires are missing. And old mythical being resurfaces and starts killing people.

Boundary Lines made me want to read the next story in this series right now; only to realize that it's not even released yet. Damn! I really loved this universe and the cast of characters that Olson created. I felt like I was part of the whole gang, and I hated that I have to say goodbye when the book ended.

I really, really liked Lex. While she has only just been recently discovered her power as boundary witch, Lex is taking all it in with bravery. She doesn't back down, even when she has to deal with horrible personal memories in order to get greater access of her power. Lex also knows how to negotiate with Maven when it is needed, which is pretty dangerous considering that Maven is a lot stronger than Lex.

I enjoyed the friendship between Lex and the sibling witches, Simon and Lily -- as well as the more subtle romance with Quinn.

I can't wait to read what other things that Lex can do now that her power is growing..

I was really excited, when it popped up on my kindle. Since I had pre-ordered and had been waiting patiently. I love this World that Melissa has created. Her writing, is just amazing. I really can't think of another word for it.

Lex, is back in the second book to the series. Dealing with the past and her current future. Crazy stuff starts happening in Boulder, Colorado. With the help of Quinn (whom I adore), Simon, and Lily. There's plenty of action. Plenty of Mystery. We meet a lot of new characters throughout the story.

I really love Lex, she's really a strong, brave, Caring character. I think her level headedness really helps with Maven. Whose use to you know? Pulling hearts right out of someone's chest. I enjoyed them all meeting up together to destroy something, that is utterly disgusting and I probably would of ran far far away.

This is such a great Urban Fantasy series!! I really can't wait for the next one. If I could have it now, that would be great....Lissa

I received a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Even though I read the first book recently I appreciated how Olson works information from Boundary Crossed (and the short story, Malediction) into this one and that it’s not a huge info dump. It is worked in naturally throughout the first part of the book. It was really hard to put the book down (much like the first one).
I really enjoy Lex as a character more than Scarlett. Not that there is anything wrong with Scarlett, I just find Lex more interesting and I love her sass. I also love the pop culture references (even though Lex doesn’t get them all). My favorite though was probably the “graboid reference, oh and Harry Potter.
Olson’s world building feels natural and I like the majority of the characters (Keller is a jerk). More Simon and Lily please... Maven is growing on me more.

Once again, Melissa F. Olson delivers a fantastic urban fantasy novel. Allison "Lex" Luthor is a compelling, complex character who must learn learns more about her powers as a boundary witch to confront a mysterious threat that is making the local supernatural community go haywire. The book is fast paced, perfectly plotted, and a gripping read. The ending was terrific. If you aren't reading this series, you should be.

I could have sworn that I reviewed this book a long time ago ... but apparently I missed it.
I thought it was great. I like how Lex and Quinn's relationship is progressing. The whole idea of how the old world is working and the secrets, betrayals, and nifty reveals made this is an exciting read.
I'd say more, but I didn't take notes. I just remember thinking ... wow great book.

Another great one

I tried but simply could not put this book down. I like that her relationship with Quinn is not the focus of the book and that she is still fighting to not just protect her niece but the whole town now, including vampires and werewolves.
