Spoilers!
What's it all about? Lucy and Aiden have been best friends since they were kids, but when their love lives aren’t going as planned do the both start to see the light at the end of the tunnel?
The Best Parts: What I liked about this story was that it was well written. The scenes that played out were great and made me want to read more. The characters and dialogue were wonderful and very much stayed to the character that they belonged to. That’s about all I liked for this story.
The Worst Parts: This wasn’t even anything. I mean nothing but a prologue. This story doesn’t even focus and the best friends falling for each other, and for this to be a romance novel there was nothing! I mean nothing, not even a kiss. There was implied sex, and the beginnings of a blow job that we never got to see. This is the first book to a 5 part series and if this was just the beginning then I don’t want to know what the rest is. I think this series would work better as a long novel rather than broken up. I would read it then, but I’m not paying for each little portion just for more disappointment. If I would have had to pay for this story I would have been more frustrated but luckily it is free and I never have to think about the series ever again.
Final thoughts: If you want to be drug around and kept on your toes for even just a kiss then this is the story for you, but if not then don’t read it. It is just a tease that leads to nothing.
Falling for my Best Friend is the first novella in the Fated series by Hazel Kelly. In this we are introduced to Lucy and Aiden who have been friends since childhood but have never considered a relationship with each other. Lucy spends her time always on the first date with different guys from the Tinder app. Aiden is the type to always date models and never get into a serious relationship.
I tried another series from Hazel Kelly and didn't quite care for the characters but I did see potential in her writing so decided to give this series a try. This particular series did seem to have a much better start to it but still added in a few things that didn't make me completely fall in love with it quite yet but it did seem to be better than the first.
Lucy starts off on one of those laugh out loud ridiculously bad first dates so that alone made me interested in her story. She has some issues though so not completely in love with her character just yet. Aiden on the other hand seemed like a really solid guy that was with all the wrong women in his life. The fact that the two of them get along so well and have known each other forever does bring the feeling of you two just need to get together and forget the others.
Overall, quick read with potential to be a decent series but not much plot to the first novella other than meeting the characters to know how it will turn out.
I'm so glad this book was a free download. I didn't realize it was a short read and a 2 parter. I can honestly say I'm not a fan of this one. The only time Aiden and Lucy start to maybe see each other as something more than friends is in the very last chapter. There is very little interaction between them throughout the book at all. definitely not a fan of this one.
this is the 1st book in a 5 book series, each book is short so once i finished the last book it was no different than reading a normal length book really, i really enjoyed this series, if i give a 5 star rating its because i would read it again and i would happily read this series again, i must say though i wouldnt have paid for such short books but as they were on KU i was happy to give them a go
[After all, no matter how lost I got, his smile always made me feel found. It was like he saw me more clearly than other people, or rather, like he saw me how I wished I was. I honestly couldn’t imagine my life without him. I mean, he was the one person that could always make me feel grounded when the world around me was a shitstorm.]
Okey, let me be honest....
It started out good.. I like Lucy and her free-spirit and her intake on life. I like Aiden and he seems like a genuine good guy... I like that he goes all in and are faithful...
In the middle of the book ( okey I didn't get in the beginning that there would be more books about Lucy and Aidens story) I got a bit confused and wondered WTF when's the real romance gonna come....
But since I never (almost never) give up on a book I continued and I'm so happy I did....
And now I can't wait to read the rest of the story.....
Too short. Authors! It's not worth it. Write a full book, and stop letting your pockets dictate your craft. People get frustrated with you and stop reading your books because you and your publishers are being greedy. It hurts you the writer in the long run unless you are a top notch writer. Let's be honest, great romance writers are a dime a dozen. Unless you have some extraordinary stories, your not all that for people to keep paying for all your mini book stories. I here to tell all readers (I have probably read most romance authors) this author is not the best. Her stories are not very much different than most. However, to be fair, she is not the worst. If you don't mind paying for her books, these stories are an okay read to pass the time away.
It was good but the story was incomplete so my review will be better given after I read the rest.
The general gist is two best friend were never quite right for each other until one day it just clicked. They are each denying it of course but I'm sure they'll come around.
After reading Tempted By The Boss series, written by Hazel Kelly, I honestly couldn't wait to read more of her work, so when I saw this series I automatically knew that I had to read it.
Lucy and Aiden have been best friends ever since they were little kids so they both know pretty much everything about each other, but there is one thing that Lucy has managed to keep hidden from him and that is her true feelings about him.
Over the years Aiden has been there for Lucy when she needed him, even when she lost her mom when she was younger he was still there no matter what. The only thing was that as they got older Lucy started to realise that she actually likes Aiden a whole lot more than she is letting on even though she keeps denying it and only her roommate can see through her. It's been quite a struggle for Lucy over the years seeing the amount of girls that he's been with because deep down she wishes that could be her but she doesn't want to even consider that as she truly values her friendship towards him.
Even though they are a lot older now and both are starting their careers they both still are dependant on each other when it comes to relationship problems or just problems in general. Aiden feels that only Lucy understands him more than anyone especially when he choose to give up playing sports but he knows that when he's around her that he can be himself, he doesn't have to pretend about anything.
After having an argument with his girlfriend Aiden really doesn't feel like going back to his apartment so he decides to go and see Lucy whilst she's at work. She is just closing everything up for customers but she still has a few things to do, so when she sees him she tells him to just take a seat and wait for her if he doesn't mind. They begin talking about how everything's going and he decides that he will finally let Lucy cut his hair, but then the atmosphere changes in ways that they don't expect it too.
Will Aiden ever realise that he's been looking for the wrong girl all this time or will he just continue seeking his best friends advice when it comes to women. And will Lucy keep her feelings deeply hidden or can her roommate persuade to just tell the truth.
Hazel Kelly's work just keeps on getting better and better, you really don't want to miss anything.
I read a lot of books, some are novels and others have more than one book in their series. I have to tell you that right from the start, I wasn't very happy with this book. It is very short, more like the prologue which turns me off completely because it should state that when you are looking for a book to read. This was just all in all unsatifsying to read. Some readers may enjoy it, I'm sorry I didn't. I was asked to give my honest opinion after reading this story and in doing so, I received this one book for free.
I think it has the potential to be a good story. The problem is it just ends. There isn't much build up even to say it left you at a cliff hanger. This is the first in this series maybe if the other books get released they will be better. Just needed more......
I was looking forward to this book. The story line had the potential to be great however unfortunately the story was weak. The whole book was basically a conversation, nothing to grip onto. I won't be bothering with book 2.
I was very surprised when I got to the end of this book, as nothing had really happened? This book is not a full story, and left me feeling disappointed.
Just within the first couple of chapters I already was loving Lucy and Aiden. They have a friendship anyone would be envious of. (Me included😍) . I like how supportive they are of each other. When these two are in scene together I can't help but smile. No matter what they go through they can always lighten up the mood and make each other feel better. They just get each other. It wasn't just them just falling for each other but It was also us falling along with them.❤️
In no way are these characters perfect, they have their own struggles they deal with. Lucy, I freaking love her sense of humor, goes on a lot of tinder dates that typically don't work out so well. (I mean its hilarious to read and totally relatable because we've all been through those really AWKWARD dates.) It could be because she subconsciously compares all her dates to Aiden.😏 She basically sets herself up for disaster. Yet she doesn't allow herself to see Aiden more than just her best friend. Lucy has her issues. Some that we don't get to explore too much in this book but enough to know it's something that she's clearly dealt with for a long time.
Model girlfriends and money aside, I applaud Aiden.👏🏽 Not only for being my leading man or being a best friend a girl could ask for but for being a really good boyfriend. Maybe even too good for his current girlfriend. He puts up with a lot. I don't like Chelsea whatsoever. I understand wanting to be healthy and eating right but I mean come on. Let Aiden eat lol.🍦🍔🍕🍝🍞 Chelsea is a snake. I tried to sympathize with her but she's repeatedly doing things that make it hard to. The extremes people do in order to pursue their dreams. But at what cost? Aiden's concerns are understandable. How do you help someone who doesn't want listen?
Who doesn't love ice cream? Oh yeah evil people.🤔 I freaking LOVE ice cream!😚 I absolutely love that Aiden and Lucy have this thing where they check out new places for the best ice cream.☺️ Recently I've been eating nothing but coffee and peanut butter cup ice cream. It's not as gross as it sounds I swear!😂 I'm with you there guys I might never eat another vegetable ever again.🙅🏽
Aw the relationship between Lucy and her brother reminds me of the one I have with my own brother.😂 Yes chicks dig vampires. Duh. Young love. Heartbreak. What a great combination for some inspiration. I mean what would the world be without Adele or Taylor swift? Omg Fiona, she's seriously hilarious! The things she says, it makes sense that she's besties with Lucy.🙏🏽😂 She's also not afraid to call you out and gives pretty good advice. Dr Phil in the house. I like that she's protective of Lucy especially with a boss like theirs. Omg what a creep!! My heart was racing so fast!🙀
I actually liked how we didn't start off on the Lucy and Aiden train right away. We were seeing them as best friends, their lives outside of each other and their relationships with other characters. Little by little they both started to realize their feelings for each other. It was slow but inevitable. It ended in a really good place ... The last line ... Aiden FINALLY seeing Lucy in a new light ... I've been waiting patiently for it and .... I literally leaned back in my chair covering my face with my hands. I don't know why I torture myself with reading a book series. I need to read the next book!📚
I have mixed feelings about this book, I almost gave it a two but I also wanted to give it a four as well. Usually, I just go through my feelings about the book but I think this time I will split it into pros and cons to really be able to sort out my feelings for it.
Pros: I really like Kelly's writing. Both Lucy and Aiden seem like real people despite being characters in a book. Even their jobs, a hairdresser [Lucy] and Physical Therapist [Aiden], seem believable. Their interactions, conversations, and actions were exactly what I picture people today would act. I also like their use of tinder and the thoughts surrounding the dating app.
Cons: This book deals with a number of different topics; Self-Harm, Sexual Harassment, Eating Disorders, and Casual Sex. None of these get talked about or resolved. Also, Lucy discovers something about halfway in that she should have told him. I was waiting for the reveal but it never came and that just upset me. Also, The whole 'falling' part of the book takes place in the very last part of this novel and there's nothing that really gets the address and I was left wanting and unfulfilled.
One thing I do want to address is that this book is VERY short. It took me under an hour to completely finish it and I thought I had only received a sample of the book and actually couldn't believe that it just ended, however when I saw that there were 5 books it occurred to me that all the books may be really short. I got this book through Kindle unlimited so I was not too upset to discover this the length of this book. The actual price is 99 cents which isn't too bad, but I just thought I should warn you all.
I don't fault an author when books are short, I know it takes a lot of effort to write so I don't want to complain. I just want to tell you everything. Overall, I will continue the series but now I'll be more prepared with the shortness of the book.
I don't really like the friends-to-lovers trope in books but I was randomly in the mood to read it and I chose this novella because I had downloaded onto my Kindle recently. h is a hairdresser and H is a physiotherapist and they have been friends since childhood. If you don't like reading about H in a relationship with another person before getting together with h, then maybe skip this book because it happens here. But I must say I liked how we can see the clear contrast between h and H's current girlfriend and that the reasons why he would eventually break up with her to have a HEA with h were valid and believable. That is, if there even is a HEA because this is the first book in a series and kind of ends in a cliffhanger. This book is such a tease, don't expect it to have a satisfying ending.
For most of this book I thought the story and characters were bland and I didn't feel their chemistry. But wow in the last 10% things got really interesting. The haircut scene was absolutely by far my favourite from the book. There's also this mystery about h's past but it was vague and never delved into. I didn't know that this series would follow the same couple but now I am invested in their story and will certainly continue the series. I was literally going to give this 1 star but the last 10% saved it. This book was a nice surprise and I instantly want to read the next one. 2.75 stars.
I read all five books in this series....in one day. So I will not be submitting a separate review for each one.....because they would all say the same thing! So here ya go: This was a super quick read....even with all five books....I finished all in one day. It was a sweet story about friends to lovers. It was a nice break from heavy story lines with lots of drama and angst. So if that's what you are looking for....probably not this book for you just yet. If you need a pallet cleanser from some heavier reading then this would be a good choice. I loved both characters....but my favorite thing about all five books was the super witty banter between all of the characters! I had several LOL moments when the characters where talking back and forth! All book were listed under KU.......so if you have the subscription you are good to go without having to pay like some of the other reviewers. I have to agree...if I would have had to pay for the short books....I probably would not have continued with the story.
This is a very cute short book it is a series it ends in a cliffhanger. I liked the author but I just felt it was choppy and it was rushed. I wish you would have just made it a whole book instead of splitting it up I think it would be better that way. I'd like to characters and everybody in it but I'm not positive I'm going to continue on on this book I may try a different book that she's wrote and not continue with this series. I felt I felt that they were a little too goody two shoes type people Lucy's using tinder for finding a boyfriend Aiden has a supermodel girlfriend and he's just Lucy's best friend so they tell each other everything I just I can't get into the storyline. If anybody's looking for a book like this a short beach read I would recommend it to them.
I barely made it past the beginning of the book when I stopped reading. In the first few pages, this author pokes fun at people who believe in Jesus. The character she created believed that he is saved. Why does she need to make that sound like a bad thing? On top of that, this character talked about how he tried to hurt himself in high school by drinking cough syrup. The heroine didn’t believe this but people can get hurt by drinking too much cough syrup. So now, aside from poking fun at those who believe in Jesus, the author implies that suicide is not a serious matter either. This is offensive and this author should really re-do the first pages of her book. I was disappointed because I usually enjoy the writing of this author.
