Tarnished Honor by Sabrina York was fantastic! Seriously, this story has it all. The characters were likable and made me laugh out loud in many places. They were well developed and made my heart hurt. The passion they shared was sizzling and the story was filled with all of the elements that make a story fun to read.

Daniel Sinclair held so much guilt over the death of his friend during battle. He just keeps beating himself up over the what ifs of the past. He struggles with his guilt so much that he hasn't been able to make himself meet up with his best friend's sister to give her his final gift to her - a chess piece that he asked Daniel to make sure she got. He's pretty much put himself in a self appointed time out and just keeps his distance from people as much as possible. When he comes across the young boy that goes by the name Pip in his travels he does all he can to get rid of him. But, he likes the kid and begins to think maybe he can do some of his penance by helping the kid out.

Fia Lennox misses her brother terribly. Finding out he had died in battle was hard enough, but as her only remaining family she was now being kicked out of the elite girls school she attended. Actually, kicked out was too nice of a word. She was being relegated to servant rather than student. In an attempt to protect herself from being assaulted Fia defends herself and then has to flee into the night. Traveling alone as a female is way too dangerous, so Fia does the only thing she can. She disguises herself as a boy and sets out.

It was too funny to watch Fia try to hide who she really was from Daniel. When she discovered exactly who he was and the guilt that he felt she wanted nothing more than to ease his pain, but she knew he would end things if he ever found out who she really was. I definitely recommend this story to anyone that enjoys adventure and love with an entertaining "make-you-smile" style of writing.

*Review of Tarnished Honor by Sabrina York

I absolutely love a broken hero! In Tarnished Honor, we are introduced to Daniel Sinclair who has returned from the Battle of Waterloo battered in body, and broken in soul. He watched his best friend fall in battle and blames himself for his loss. Since the death of her brother, Fia Lennox has lost everything. Her home, her family, and her status in society. Fleeing the girls school where she was forced to become a servant, Fia cuts her hair and dresses as a boy in hopes of traveling to her best friends home without incident. Of course that doesn't happen, and she meets up with Daniel. Oh I won't spoil their smexxy adventure! You will have to read it for yourself! Needless to say, I will never eat another apple without thinking of this story. "Lord love a duck", this is yet another great read sure to melt your heart by Sabrina! I luvs it!

Fav quotes:

"Her soul saw and recognized his...she was safe with him...he would protect her."

"...was not her lips he was claiming, rather a chunk of his soul he had somehow lost."

"He wanted her. This man. This beautiful, wounded, perfect man."

Six romance writers have combined forces to create this 6 story historical romance novella collection where the heroes have all survived the battle of Waterloo. Released in time for the anniversary of that famous battle, Cerise DeLand, Sabrina York, Suzi Love, Lynne Connolly, Suzanna Medeiros and Dominique Eastwick have brought their imaginations out to play in this collection.

I’ll work in order of appearance here, so first up is Interlude With A Baron by CeriseDeLand. A story of first love separated by circumstance. Drayton has never forgotten Emma, or the cruel mistreatment of her at her father’s hand. Her husband is a brute, and she too is remembering the first flush of romance and her feelings for Dray. But, when free, she won’t be coerced into another disaster: marriage has only brought her pain ad heartache, can she truly believe that Drayton will be different?

The Captain’s Heart by Suzanna Medeiros is up next and started with the angst and guilt, torn alliances and conflicting goals that made me wonder if Edward and Grace could ever find a path to one another. A big surprise in hat it carried the angst and emotion early on that I have come to crave in my NA reads, it was fun to find that in a historical that slowly turns to make a destined for love story, even with a third party doing their best to intervene.

Love After Waterloo by Suzi Love and this Australian author never ceases to miss in the depth of her characters, fully infusing them with heart while adding a sublime touch of heat to her stories. Anne is a young and pregnant widow, and working as a nurse to avoid her in-laws meddling and controlling. Gabe is a doctor and not particularly interested in having women around. His jaded and forthright expression of this belief can’t allow him to deny the feelings that are developing. But, when they return to England and are separated by society and circumstance, Anne never needed his help or intervention more. While I found the shift in their feelings (if not pronouncements) rather quick, it did suit the tone of uncertainty of a battle romance, and the characters were palpable and believable.

Dreaming of Waterloo by Lynne Connolly is next on the eReader, and Paul and Hetty are the first couple before and after the war. On his return, expecting the demure bride he left, Paul finds that Hetty has come into her own, and is seemingly content with his continued absence. This is a story of push and pull, his guilt and the effects of the war pushing her away, even as his upbringing and belief of how a man should be push at him to take charge and be the ‘strong one. These two were easy to empathize with, but a bit more difficult to come to love: she deserved more from him, and he needed to allow himself to let go of the guilt and embrace the woman she had become.

Dominique Eastwick’s For Love or Revenge is next up, and one of my decided favorites, giving me characters that I wanted more of, and would love to see again. Roarke is damaged and broken, bent on revenge but just constrained by his gentlemanly upbringing and sense of honor that he desperately hangs on to with both hands. After a horrid marriage, Alex has broken free of its constraints and is living her live, content with what she has because she makes her own rules. From meeting to declarations of love, this story was laden with heart and surprises, and incredibly hard to see come to an end.

Tarnished Honor by Sabrina York is also top of my list of favorites. Daniel and Fia, what a delicious couple: both running from their pain and torment and finally right into one another’s arms. Daniel’s guilt is a third character, never knowing just how strong Fia is until her strength and bravado born of desperate circumstances props him up as well. Their interactions are wonderful, bringing light into many of the dark corners in which Daniel sought to hide, and the story couldn’t have ended any other way.

Fans of historical romance will want to snap up this collection: a wonderful way to meet new authors that could become your next favorite. A solid collection with memorable characters and stories, encompassing the timeless ramifications of war and the hopefulness of love.

I purchased a copy of the anthology for my own personal collection. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

These six ladies did an amazing job combining very different men and women into a cohesive collection set around the return of the soldiers to normal life from the Battle of Waterloo. The idea centers around the brilliant idea of the club, The Incomparables. It’s a club that is either owned, a place of employment, or just utilized by some of the soldiers. It is a home away from home them. Either they need the escape from everyday life or they need a step up in life. Offering the men a place to relax, heal and find themselves again.

In Cerise DeLand’s story “Interlude with a Baron we have a couple who has a chance at renewed love…maybe. During the war Drayton was put into a position that ruined his first love. Now he wants to make it up to her and love her again, but she has other plans.

They I really enjoyed Drayton’s determination, perseverance, and humility. He never let his success change him. He used his pain from the past and became an amazing man. Emma was so much fun. She kept her innocence even though she has gone through hell. She didn’t let her circumstances changer her for the worse but developed a strength that was noble and resilient. Their relationship was well paced and read smoothly. Ms. DeLand utilized flashbacks perfectly so they helped the story flow well giving a perfect balance to the story. .

“The Captain’s Heart by Suzanna Medeiros was a story was a bit of a surprise for me. Captain Edward Hathaway was a man riddled with so much guilt, but he stood strong to complete a task that no man would ever want to take on. Grace is a woman stuck between her desires and her commitments. She never truly loved her betrothed, but felt bound to accept his proposal. She knew she would have to face the truth of her feelings when he returned, but he never did.

I was on pins and needles hoping for a different kind of story. That being said I’m not disappointed in the least at the final product. Yes, I would have enjoyed it more if the gut wrenching angst continued but the story evolved into a sweet tale of destined love. The “Captain’s Heart is a story of instant attraction with a twisted third wheel. It’s a very nice read.

I’m not really sure how to label “Love After Waterloo by Suzi Love. I can’t really say that this is a story is of enemies turned lovers love story. Attraction was instant but the characters had strong differing views that potentially could keep them apart.

Gabe is a man with very defined views of male and female roles. He is set in his ways and believe that women shouldn’t be anywhere near the battlefields. He is black and white and never grey.

While Anne is all about blurred lines. She has lost her husband and needs to get away from the clutches of her in-laws and decides to seek the shelter of traveling the war with her brothers, helping injured soldiers. She loves what she does, but now that the battle is over, she needs to return to London and unfortunately has to travel with the handsome, but opinionated Captain Gabriel.

At first I thought that the way that their feelings switched so easily, I would hesitate to enjoy the story but I enjoyed it thoroughly regardless. Due to the circumstances they found themselves in, they had much more freedom to explore their mutual attractions and never looked back. Ms. Love didn’t make us wait for the sparks to fly and made the story heated, sexy and a real page turner.

In “Dreaming of Waterloo by Lynne Connolly we get our first returning husband story; a romance with a touch of intrigue. Before Paul left for the war he had a new marriage and a blushing loving wife. What he came home to was a woman of his own making. With his continued abandonment and poor choices, Hetty has become a totally different wife than when her husband left for the war. Now can they find their way back to each other?

Paul is a man who from outside appears to be golden but he feels anything but. He feels like a tortured man with a glass exterior ready to shatter at any moment. Hetty has been shunned once too many times by her husband. Now that he is back he seems to still be pushing her away. She has made it years in the business world without his help, while she has taken care of the estate. She doesn’t need him to return to take things over and push her away from everything she has neutered and built. This is a story full of pushing and pulling.

Paul was too damaged for me to warm to him completely in such a short story. While my heart did start to melt for him I really needed a bit more time to love him. I kind of feel the same way about Hetty. She is a strong heroine that deserved a much brighter spotlight. No real mystery in the story but it was still a sweet romance of reunited love.

“For Love or Revenge by Dominique Eastwick was the best surprise for me. I will admit that I adore Ms. Eastwick. She writes in every genre that I enjoy and she has yet to disappoint me. With “For Love or Revenge, she has introduced me to a family I can see loving, whole heartedly and then some.

Captain Roarke was a man filled with such pain and suffering, you never knew which direction he would go, but he always followed his upbringing. He was a gentleman through and through. Lady Grafton was exceptional. I love a strong widow who snubs her nose at societies BS and makes a life for herself.

All I can say is wow. What a great story of two people with insurmountable amount of baggage between them. Roarke with the pain and suffering put upon him by a colleague. He is a man filled with rage and the burning desire for revenge, but has the heart of a gentleman. Alex has finally found peace. With her husband and tormenter gone, she can finally enjoy the life she has determined is for her. While her heart has always wanted more, she will settle with what she has, never wanting to be bound by the binds of marriage.

I enjoyed how Roarke and Alex met, how they loved and how they finally came together. I just loved this story from start to finish. I can say I was lovingly trapped in its pages until well after four in the morning. I remember gasping, smiling and “no that didn’t not just happen. Ms. Eastwick wrote such a great story that I couldn’t put it down. Even for much needed sleep.

The amount of pain in “Tarnished Honor by Sabrina York is almost its own character. Daniel with his on the outside and inside and Fia’s crushing her spirit and sense of self.

Daniel has determined that he will live with the way his life has become. Content with setting to work at The Incomparables club until his dying day. He has nothing to offer to a wife, so he will be here to support his fellow soldier however he can.

Fia had it all and in one moment she lost everything; her family, money, prestige and future. Now the only thing she has to look forward to is to live the life of a servant. One night gone too far and she has to escape the confines of her station and venture away from it all. Out into the world she runs, never expecting to find salvation.

“Tarnished Honor is a story that is seeded deeply with redemption. Daniel had enough guilt in his soul for all of the characters and this is one of the very rare times that his pain was believable for me. Usually I’m reading thinking, get over it already. I felt his loss and hopelessness. Very well done.

Fia was a socialite thrown to the wolves. From riches to rags, she lives the other side of the coin and it shaped her into the woman her dead brother would have been proud of. She has the strength that Daniel lost. She picked him up and showed him the light. Though he still had a few things to learn, she definitely started him on the road to recovery. “Tarnished Honor was such a great story. Ms. York told a very depressing tale in such a sway you were not brought down but relished the heroes recovery. I very much enjoyed it.

This is an exceptional anthology that shouldn’t be missed. If you love historicals, romance and anthologies, you will love this one. I’m not sure how long the sale will last, but at $.99 this is one that can’t be missed. Preorder today!!

Some of the stories weren't particularly well thought through; there were a few stars but mainly mediocre fair. All suffer from editing errors.

You would think by now it would be impossible for me to be amazed by the talent of Sabrina York. However, every now and then she surpasses even my expectations. This lady can write an awesome story in any time period. Tarnished Honor is part of The Incomparables Boxed Set. If Ms.York's story is any indication this box set is going to be awesome.

Daniel Sinclair was injured in the battle at Waterloo. He suffered a leg injury and also feared his manhood had been injured as well. He also lost a few dear friends and he has a horrible time dealing with their loss and feels like he let them down. How could I not instantly feel a connection to this hero!?!

Fia Lennox lost her only living family in the battle as well. Her brother was one of the solider killed. She is away at a boarding school with no funds to pay. This poor girl goes through so much and is only saved by the good graces of a wonderful friend that helps her hit the road.

Daniel and Fia end up traveling together. This leads to some dramatic moments that left me in awe of Fia's talents. There are also some humorous moments that had me laughing out loud. And of course this story is written by her Royal Hotness so there is some incredibly steamy scenes that left my kindle just a little HOT!
I also found myself with a few tears during some of the dramatic moments that were filled with a lot of emotions.

Overall this is a typical Sabrina York story that kept me enthralled from page one all the way to the end. This lady has a massive amount of talent and it is always FUN to see what story she is going to come up with next. She has done just as awesome a job with this historical romance that she does with a contemporary.

I have a feeling this whole box set is going to be terrific with all these great authors joined together to tell us about the heroes of Waterloo.

I was given the opportunity to read this great story so that I may share my thoughts with you. As always it has been my pleasure to share my thoughts with you on Tarnished Honor.

Being a sucker for an historical romance, this set of books was perfect for me.
Interlude With A Baron by Cerise DeLand was a fantastic, well written book. I enjoyed the characters, Drayton and Emma's story kept me up late to finish it.
The Captain's Heart by Suzanna Medeiros was as wonderful as I expected. Edward and Grace's story was another page turner.
Love After Waterloo by Suzi Love was a first read by this author for me. I was happy to find a well written book. Anne and Gabe's story kept me glued to the kindle. I'm looking forward to reading more from Suzi Love in the future.
Dreaming of Waterloo by Lynne Connolly was another book with a new to me author. I enjoyed Paul and Hetty's story.
Dominique Eastwick's book, For Love Or Revenge was yet another new author to me and another great discovery. Roarke and Alexandra's story kept me spellbound.
Tarnished Honor by Sabrina York was an awesome book that kept me reading till 4am. Yes, it was just that good. Daniel and Fia's story kept me grinning from start to finish.
All of these books are fantastic reads. Full of history, drama, angst, humor, action and happily ever afters, this is an amazing collection of books. I look forward to finding more books from the new to me writers and of course more from the not so new to me authors.

Nobody does historical romance better

I bought this box set specifically to read Sabrina York's story, Tarnished Honor. It was every bit as wonderful as I hoped it would be. A wounded war hero nightmares, what we now know as PTSD. He is living as many wounded veterans do, on bare minimum subsistence. When he is called to his home to find out what his late uncle bequeathed him, he meets what he thinks is a boy on the road, and together they find adventure, love, and perhaps redemption for the horrors of war. For it is not just the war heroes who suffer, but also the ones they left behind. Wonderful story! Now I must go back and read the other stories in this wonderful box set.

Historical romances are my favorite go-to read. I initially chose this anthology because of Lynne Connolly (Nobleness Oblique), "Dreaming of Waterloo." All the other authors were new to me. Love this concept all the heroes (and some heroines) attending a ball just before Waterloo...and then their stories afterward. Perfect.
All the stories fit well into the anthology and I am glad to add this to my library. I would have given this book 5 stars, but, sadly, the editing misplaced/misspelled several of the main character's names. In a layout like this, name switches get confusing. Overall, it did not deter from each story...but hope it can be fixed in the next edition. Still, Sabrina York and Suzi Love are now on my TBR radar.

Out of the anthology I read Tarnished Honor by Sabrina York. I swear Daniel gets whiplash, and heaven forbid you hurt his lovemaking skills, "he reared back. “Fine? It was a damn sight better than fine. Ah yes. That made her feel better. “But I shouldna ha done that. She disliked that he turned away. She wanted to see his face." Daniel gets the surprise of his life when his woman feels him up at the dinner table, "he nearly jumped from his chair as a hand, a small, delicate, fragile hand , cupped his length . And squeezed." I liked this story Daniel was something else.

Boring Smut!!! The stories in this collection are pretty ridiculous. There are a lot of modern day dialogue...it's no mistaken that some of these conversations didn't take place during the historical times of Waterloo. The storylines lacked true, authentic romance. I guess the authors were like let's throw in a bunch of explicit sex scenes and dirty talk to make these horny readers happy. Well, they didn't do a good job at it in my opinion. I won't read anything else by any of these authors...oh and the worse of them all was the story titled "Love after Waterloo"...

This is a bit of a mixed bunch, some of them approaching the "life is too short" category, with dodgy French, "knee pants" for boys, modern American expressions, and far too much whisky being drunk at a time when it was not a gentleman's drink. However the Lynne Connolly offering is, as usual with her, an excellent piece of writing.

Worthy read though heated scenes

The historical details encased in each tale made them more believable and characters had more depth. I could do without the anatomy lessons when a scene heated up.

Most of the books were short novels or novellas and not very well fleshed out. The dialog was pretty modern in some of them (bummer, really???!) One of the books changed the number of siblings the heroine had halfway through the book and one had an incorrect name for the hero. Needed editing!
