With over 72 sales to her credit since her first publication in 1987, Michigan author Nancy Gideon’s writing career is as versatile as the romance market, itself. Her books encompass genres from historicals and regencies to contemporary suspense and the paranormal. Her works have been published overseas in Romanian, Italian, Russian, Portuguese, Danish, German, Icelandic and Chinese, among other languages.

Also listed on the International Movie Database (IMDB), she collaborated on the indie horror films In the Woods and Savage with screenwriting and ADR script credits, and even played the character “Bar Extra.

A national speaker on writing in general and romance in particular, Gideon is a Western Michigan University honors grad with a major in journalism and minors in history and communications. She’s a member of Novelist, Inc. and the Mid-Michigan, Greater Detroit, PASIC and FF&P chapters of Romance Writers of America®, and is former vice-president, published author co-liaison and award-winning newsletter editor for MMRWA.

The mother of two grown sons, one married and proud producer of her grandson and the other shanghaied into being her occasional assistant, she 's retired from 18 years as a legal assistant.

A prolific writer, Gideon who also writes as Dana Ransom and Lauren Giddings, attributes her creative output, which once peaked at seven novels in one year, to her love of history and a gift for storytelling. She also credits the discipline learned through a background in journalism and scheduling writing time around diaper changes, Scout meetings, band lessons and outings to the Zoo Boo...and, of course, OCD. The due date for her third book and her second son were on the same day...and both were early! When on deadline, she'd turn on the laptop between 4:30 and 5:00 a.m. to get a chapter in before work.

While the pace is often hectic, Gideon, a Gemini, enjoys tackling diverse projects. One month it’s researching the gritty existence of 1880’s Texas Rangers only to jump to modern themes of intrigue and possibly a legal thriller or two. Then, it’s back to the shadowy netheworld of shape shifters, vampires and movie serial killers. When not working on her latest plot twist before sunrise, even now that she no longer works 9-5, she enjoys indulging in Netflix, hosting her critique group, and feeding all things fur, fin and fowl. And, of course, reading.

Burdened by a dark past ripe with blood, death, & enough guilt and regrets to last several lifetimes, Cale Terriot is on a mission to make amends and atone for the sins of his father and so when Silas MacCreedy calls in a debt, Cale reluctantly agrees to help him. When he learns what is expected of him, Cale knows he should refuse but it's the only way to satisfy his debt and ease his guilt. The King of the Terriot clan of Shapeshifters goes underground to fight in an illegal fight ring in an effort to discover the names of the men at the top - the powers that be who pose a real threat to his people, family, & all of New Orleans. Cale knows he's walking on dangerous ground, flirting with the devil as he falls under the spell and into the hands of Casper Lee. He's walking a high wire without a safety net and dangerously close to falling off. I won't go into more details on the story to avoid spoilers, but Unleashed is a riveting read, one intimately woven to include a large cast of characters in a plot with more twists and turns than a curvy mountain road.

From King to the drug induced world of illegal fighters . . . what happens when a man risks everything in an effort to make amends for the past? When is the cost of redemption too high? If Cale survives the fight in the ring, will he be lost to the inner darkness threatening his soul? Cale is crumpling under the weight of a heavy secret - one that haunts him, one that is destroying him, one that may cost him the love of his life. In order to win the fight in the ring, the King of the Terriots will have to flirt with a dark mistress from his past . . . one that nearly destroyed him before his mate, Kendra, stepped in, refusing to let him go. Cale enters a battle for his life, his mate, his people, and his soul. They say the truth will set you free - but what if it costs him everything?

Cale Terriot is simply awesome in Unleashed By Shadows. There's no doubt he's King of the Terriots as he struts his stuff whether working undercover as a common dock worker, getting down & bloody in a fight ring to the roar of Gunslinger, or shaking his mighty fine ass on the dance floor. He is arrogant, cocky, and smokin' hot! He's also protective, devoted, & actually very vulnerable. He accepts the weight of the crown pressing heavily upon him as he fights to save all that is dear to him. There are two sides of Cale Terriot to be experienced in this book, and the cover reflects both of them beautifully.

Kendra Terriot surprised me in Unleashed. Gone is the shy, meek girl who married her Prince. Present & accounted for is a kickass woman who goes to bat for her man. She is spunky, sassy, and a force to be reckoned with - as Cale himself soon discovers. I loved the new, improved Kendra. She no longer stands behind her King, she stands beside him as his Queen.

And then, there's the Terriot Brothers - Colin, Rico, and Kip. Gorgeous, powerful, lethal and loyal to their brother and the crown he wears. Sensing the imminent danger surrounding their brother and king, they unite to cover his back. Together, they are a force to be reckoned with. One of the sexiest things I've ever seen is the Terriot brothers in action on the dance floor. Somebody pour me a cold one! Cale, Colin, & Rico take over a dance floor with moves that will leave you panting for more. I am hoping for much more of the Terriot brothers in future books.

How can I talk about Moonlight #10 without mentioning Max and CeeCee? They return from their honeymoon a little more than halfway through this book. Max is magnificent as always! It does my heart good to see this man/shifter happy with his mate, CeeCee, by his side. There are some great scenes between Max & Cale as Max shares some of his secret abilities and powers with Cale in an effort to help him prepare for the fight of his life.

Unleashed By Shadows is an intense, riveting, explosive read that had my heart racing, my libido firing, and my laughter ringing out. While Unleashed is intense, Nancy Gideon's snarky humor is always evident, and I'm happy to say that she rings the sex-o-meter bell more than once in this one! Cale's story will grab you by the heart strings as you share the journey of a guilt ridden man seeking redemption - one who is haunted by shadows of regret and a past that will bury him alive if he doesn't open up and let the light shine in. Unleashed By Shadows is a heart-touching, sexy, soul searching read. A Page Burner! A Must Read!

What an amazing read. 22 pages in and I was already sighing, getting pissed off and trying to murder some fictional characters. Intense nail biting read. Kept me riveted to the pages. I loved every word in this book. Nancy Gideon sure is a master at weaving such a complex story. The flow was great and the action brilliant. A highly recommended read.

Love this story! Cale is awesome and came from such a difficult and tragic past. To see him over come and to become just as deadly and awesome as Max was so exciting to see. The Terriot Princes....... Holy Hotness. There is so much deliciousness between all them it's hard not to drool. Each book that Nancy writes in this series is equally as good and continues to world build and the plot line keeps thickening. She does a really great job keeping this series going and I have enjoyed every minute reading this story.

My convoluted thoughts again...

First of all, I'm not Cale's biggest fan...I thought he was a shithead when he was first introduce and hadn't fallen in love with him in neither. Now...I still don't know if I like him or not, nor can I understand him most times. LOL! *shrugs*

This is another great adventure and as always, unpredictable. I could never presume where NG will take us, only hang on with a death grip till we get there.

Really enjoyed being back in the "Moonlight" world and with Cale and Kendra, but Cale's fatalistic attitude wore on my last nerve. How many times do you need to be drugged before you start watching out for yourself? *sigh* The second time I just thought he was a dumb shit who was almost TSTL. I can't believe I am saying that too. *sigh* Anyhoo - that aside I did really enjoy it and I can't wait to read the next one in the series.

>Book Review Unleashed by Shadows

>This is the 10th book in the By Moonlight series. I started reading this series with this book and was expecting to be a bit confused. The author did a good job of catching the reader up on the action without bogging the story down with too many past details.

>Cale is a shifter and king of his clan. What is interesting is that Cale is one of 12 brothers all much larger than he is. Cale is the smallest of the brothers, but the fiercest. For an alpha protagonist, his stature was unusual. No matter his size, Cale was all alpha and all male. This story revolved around Cale trying to save his clan by destroying a deadly drug meant to kill his people. In order to find the distributor, Cale had to enter an illegal fighting ring and actually ingest the drug, putting his life in danger.

>Kendra is Cale’s mate and queen. There is a lot of backstory involving the death of her family and Cale’s involvement in it. She seemed like she was meek in previous books, but her queenly side came out in this story. She would do anything to help Cale. Their problem was communication. Kendra and Cale hid what they were doing to protect the other, causing a lot of misinformation.

>There was a lot of action in this story. Cale is a king, undercover, fighting for his life. There is a creepy fight handler that wants to sleep with Cale in return for helping him. Those scenes were so yucky, but I could feel Cale’s helplessness. The brothers were interesting to meet. Their allegiance was suspect at times. The best scenes were when the brothers would dance a la Magic Mike. I could see the routines in my head.

>I enjoyed this book. I loved meeting Cale and Kendra. This book is appropriate for an adult audience.

I was leery of this book but love the series so I bit it. I was hoping for something like Max & CeeCee's book 2&3 - mild angst and settling into their relationship but ultimately them against the world. Cale/Kendra's first book was full of heartache and angst, an emotional roller coaster, and I've already discussed how I feel about Cale's douchey irresponsible and selfish behavior. Seems he hasn't changed much because this book was chock full of it too. Flimsy and convoluted plot (starts out with no explanation until halfway thru) and even when explained, I'm seriously confused as to why all this subterfuge is necessary? Yea he needs to catch his brother but why must he be undercover? Why would he lie to Kendra and leave her? WHY would he take a highly addictive drug that nearly killed him!?!?!? I thought in the last book that one more dose would do him in... Besides the ridiculous, contrived plot, the entire book is the same 3 pages over and over. Cale does something stupid like kills someone in a fight/takes drugs/sells his soul, then comes crawling to Kendra all pathetic, she coddles and tries to support him, they bang, she begs but he refuses to confide his secrets in her, they fight, he leaves, she's terrified, he does something stupid, then comes crawling back... And repeat. Over and over and over. By 2/3, I had slogged thru enough. At least the first had loads of action and intrigue. After a few hundred pages, literally nothing has changed and no new developments have really occurred. Feels like lots of wishy washy filler. Disappointed. DNF 65% 2 stars

Cale is a shifter and prince in his clan. He's never been thought of as a leader until he needed to be. Now he's willing to give up his leadership for a chance to protect the shifters from his evil brother. If nobility doesn't show leadership, I think we need to rethink what being a true leader is.

Ms. Gideon takes us back to NOLA where the seedy underbelly of life is more than what the police can handle, even when they aren't in the back pockets of the bad guys. In Unleashed by Shadows we get to return not only to a wonderful city but to family... Silas, Kendra, Bree, Max, CeCe and all the rest. We see just what it takes to be a leader, even when you are broken and what the love of a good woman will do!

What I love most about Ms. Gideon's heroines is their strength. They don't let the guys have all the fun. Kendra doesn't ring her hangs and worry... she dons leather and rides a cycle down to see for herself. She plans what is best for her family and man. She helps him be the leader he can be.

What I'm most excited about is the forthcoming books... Cale's brothers all deserve their own stories and Ms. Gideon has them set up and ready in this story... Now to wait... which I'm not good at.....

I'm kicking myself for letting this book and the previous book sit on my kindle for so long, since they had come out.
This book was so ... just sooo fantastic. One of the things I really liked was how all of the previous couples played some sort of role in this story. As an aside, Silas turned into a big jerk face at the end of the last book and the beginning of this book, but totally went back to being a hottie at the conclusion of the book.
The story surrounding the Terriots and how they used to be seen and how they pretty much redeemed themselves and proved that since Cale is the new king that things will be better now was the best part of it all for me. Seeing Kendra turn from being this helpless, delicate, and maiden into a hard case alpha in charge was another bonus. That crap in Prince of Shadows drove me barmy. All of the big dark eyes, gentle this and that, pffft.
I wonder how they will end up dealing with the people up north now and Max’s bat-crap insane auntie?
I was curious to see what happened to Sylvia and her stupid mother and this was a nice completion of that little arc. It was also a good place to end the current series and show hints of a possible new series. you just have to read what the Terriots did with Sylvia right?

Out of a sense of guilt Cale feels the need to make up for all he's done and seen in his life. He must atone and agrees to help Silas which leads him to an underground fight club and the battle for his people and his soul. I so enjoyed his story.

I give Unleashed by Shadows 4 hearts!
