pozycja marqueza jest bardzo oszczedna- dla mnie, nawet do granic. mysle, ze wiele by zyskala gdyby byla choc troche dluzsza. wazna informacja jest to, zeby miec zaplecze historyczne podchodzac do niej- jestem pewna, ze wiele ulatwi. jak fascynuje mnie historia pulkownika, to nie otrzymujemy wiele poza suchymi faktami. brak dynamicznosci, ktory osobiscie mi nie przeszkadzal, moze stac sie uciazliwy. bardzo doceniam natomiast dialogi- skromne, owszem, ale zarazem potrafia byc poetyckie. chyba cos ominelam, i bardzo tego zaluje. mam niezmiernie mieszane odczucia.

In spite of all its simplicity, this cock and colonel story is emotionally heart piercing�
The colonel is old and everything that happens in his life is happening slowly. And to receive a letter has become a purpose of his life. And his fighting cock is his only hope for the future.
Old age and poverty taken separately are great troubles. But when they are combined they turn into a calamity.
In spite of all its simplicity, this cock and colonel story is emotionally heart piercing�
It was seven-twenty when he finished winding the clock. Then he took the rooster into the kitchen, tied it to a leg of the stove, changed the water in the can, and put a handful of corn next to it. A group of children came in through a hole in the fence. They sat around the rooster, to watch it in silence.
The colonel is old and everything that happens in his life is happening slowly. And to receive a letter has become a purpose of his life. And his fighting cock is his only hope for the future.

A retired colonel, a small rooster, and a seventy five year patience.
In a desolate shantytown in the middle of nowhere, on a military controlled zone, endures with great hardships an old retired colonel. A dangerously declining health, an aging wife with recurring asthmatic attacks, a house slowly coming down to pieces, a son lost to the revolution. All his hopes are focused on the arrival of news regarding his veteran pension, that seems never to come; and a little cockfighting rooster, that seems to be the strongest of all three.
A short novella about the unbreakable will of the eternally patient, and the penurious conditions of a hardly day-to-day living.
Interesting, readable, but not exceptionally enjoyable. I've been wanting to read Gabo again for some time now; I've read a lot of his books, but this is sadly not the one I loved most. And I still have "One hundred years of solitude" on tbr. I know, unforgivable.
Still remaining, the movie (1999).

Una salud peligrosamente declinante, una envejecida esposa con recurrentes crisis asmáticas, una casa cayéndose lentamente a pedazos, un hijo muerto en la revolución. Todas sus esperanzas se centran en la llegada de alguna noticia sobre la pensión de veterano que parece nunca llegar; y en un pequeño gallo de peleas, que parece ser el más fuerte de los tres.
Una corta novella sobre la voluntad inquebrantable del eterno paciente, y las penurias de sobrevivir difícilmente día a día.
Interesante, leíble, pero no excepcionalmente disfrutable. Hace mucho tiempo que tenía ganas de volver a leer Gabo, pero lamentablemente éste no es el libro que más voy a recordar de él. Y todavía me debo leer "Cien años de soledad". Lo sé, imperdonable.
Queda pendiente la película (1999).

-¿Nada para el coronel?
El coronel sintió el terror. El administrador se echó el saco al hombro, bajó el andén y responder sin volver la cabeza:
-El coronel no tiene quien le escriba.
El libro de la espera y la obstinación. Un coronel que espera todos los viernes la carta que le comunique su pensión por veterano en la guerra que perdió Aureliano Buendía desde hace quince años, que vive con su esposa asmática en la más profunda de las miserias, atado a las esperanzas puestas en un gallo de riña, del que cree que es ganador, pero que no accede a vender. Y mientras tantos los días pasan. Y también las semanas y los meses.
Gabriel García Márquez es un genio indiscutido en la narrativa latinoamericana y mundial. Sólo él puede escribir una obra de arte como “Cien años de Soledad�, una pieza de relojería como “Crónica de una muerte anunciada� y maravillosas historias como ésta, de apenas cien páginas.
Me encantó este libro porque en su simpleza no enreda al lector en un realismo mágico ni narra una historia difícil de comprender. Nos cuenta sobre el por qué de la terquedad del coronel y de cómo soporta estoicamente el embate de su mujer y mucha gente que le dice que venda el gallo para no morirse de hambre.
Para saber cómo es el desenlace de la historia, sólo hay que leer de un tirón este librito maravilloso.

‘You can’t eat hope,� the woman said.
‘You can’t eat it, but it sustains you,� the colonel replied.
Some time towards the end of 2017, I was stuck in a bookstore café, shut in by the winter rain. And so, as boredom haunted, I picked my first García Márquez title for a light evening read to kill some time. I ended up setting sail for a never-ending voyage across the seas of Latin American literature.
No One Writes to the Colonel is a short and quick read. The novella tells the story of an old colonel and his asthmatic wife and their struggle for survival as their finances run scarce. The colonel, an old veteran of the Thousand Days' War still hopes to receive the pension he was promised some fifteen years earlier. The story is set in the period of La Violencia in Colombia, when martial law and censorship prevailed.
The story was inspired by García Márquez's grandfather, who was also a colonel and who never received the pension he was promised.

[4.8⭐] 𝙀𝙡 𝙘𝙤𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙡 𝙣𝙤 𝙩𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙚 𝙦𝙪𝙞𝙚𝙣 𝙡𝙚 𝙚𝙨𝙘𝙧𝙞𝙗𝙖 es una novela breve escrita por Gabriel García Márquez en 1961. La historia se centra en un coronel retirado que, cada viernes, espera una carta con la pensión que le prometieron por sus años de servicio. Sin embargo, la carta nunca llega. En medio de la pobreza, la enfermedad de su esposa y el duelo por su hijo asesinado, el coronel se aferra a la única esperanza que le queda: un gallo de pelea que podría significar su salvación.
Releer a Gabriel García Márquez siempre es un placer, aunque a veces también duele. Mi mamá es su fan número uno, así que en mi casa están todos sus libros (salvo 𝙀𝙣 𝙖𝙜𝙤𝙨𝙩𝙤 𝙣𝙤𝙨 𝙫𝙚𝙢𝙤𝙨). Los leí casi todos cuando estaba en el colegio, pero con este en particular me pasó algo curioso: no recordaba casi nada. Aprovechando la relectura, me sumergí de nuevo en esa espera infinita del coronel, en su obstinación, en la injusticia que atraviesa su vida y en la prosa magistral de Gabo, que en muy pocas páginas logra reflejar toda la desesperanza de un hombre que lo ha perdido todo, excepto su dignidad.
La historia es sencilla, pero poderosa. Un coronel viejo y pobre, con una esposa enferma (conecté demasiado con ella, en especial porque ambas tenemos asma) y una carta que nunca llega, aguanta la vida aferrándose a un gallo de pelea, que más que un animal es un símbolo: de su orgullo, de la memoria de su hijo muerto, de esa última esperanza que se niega a soltar. Mientras tanto, el tiempo sigue su curso, el hambre aprieta y la gente a su alrededor no deja de insistir en lo absurdo de su espera. Hace un año, había leído un análisis sobre esta obra y, ahora, pude aplicar los conocimientos en esta relectura.
Lo que más me impactó fue la relación entre el coronel y su esposa. Ella es más realista, más cruda en su visión del mundo, pero no lo abandona en su terquedad. Aunque discuten y chocan, se acompañan en la miseria, lo cual hace que la historia duela aún más. Gabo, con su estilo limpio y directo, logra transmitir todo sin detalles innecesarios, dejándonos con una sensación de impotencia que crece hasta las últimas páginas.
El final es simplemente brutal. Un cierre perfecto para una historia que, aunque corta, pesa como una piedra en el pecho.
Finalmente, puedo decir que esta relectura me recordó por qué García Márquez es único e increíble. No es solo su capacidad para crear mundos, sino para hacernos sentir algo. No se trata solo de contar una historia, sino de generar una conexión con el lector.

For fifteen years, every Friday the colonel walks to the docks in the hope that his pension letter is waiting for him at the postmaster’s.
‘It was supposed to come today for sure,� the colonel said. The postmaster shrugged. ‘The only thing that comes for sure is death, colonel.�
Every Friday he wakes up with anticipation.
Every Friday his hopes are shattered.
No one writes to the colonel; no one asks how he and his wife are doing; no one cares…They live in poverty and feed the little they have to the rooster in the hope that come January, the rooster will win the cockfight and make them rich.
They lived at the edge of town, in a house with a palm-thatched roof and walls whose whitewash was flaking off. The humidity kept up but the rain had stopped.
But how long could they starve themselves?
Since there is nothing left to sell, should they sell the rooster?
Should they give up or persist?
After all, life is the best thing that’s ever been invented. Isn’t it?
Despite its overall dejected and gloomy theme, hope, honor, pride, corruption, resilience and perseverance are what the novella’s subject revolves around.

I was stuck without a book at my relatives' house today. Fortunately, they were readers, so rooting through their bookshelves I found this novelette by Marquez which I had not yet read. Talk about serendipity.

The colonel, waiting for the letter every Friday which would announce his pension but is always doomed to disappointment ("No one writes to the colonel," as the postmaster says) is the quintessential tragic hero albeit in modern non-romantic garb. The fighter cock is the symbol of his fast-fading dignity, also the last thing to memorise their son by; its sale to the rapacious capitalist is the last nail in the coffin of the proud manhood of a class. Indeed, the cock, as Augustin's friends insist, does not belong to the colonel alone but to the country as a whole. Metaphors of sickness abound: the colonel's perennial stomache problem, his wife's asthma, and the severe diabetes of the trader Sabas. The dreariness of the atmosphere is compounded by the incessantly falling rain.

A deeply moving tale of an enduring marriage. The colonel and his asthmatic wife are rotting alive. Bereaved of their only son, they are left to eke out a living in so repressed a town that it becomes increasingly difficult for the aging couple to preserve some sense of dignity.
As the colonel, every Friday, without fail, awaits a letter regarding his pension, which never arrives, and the wife appears always on the verge of a brutal asthma attack, they watch their love grow old and bodies wither away amidst the rampant moral corruption and hopelessness of their surroundings.
In a society where voices, if ever raised, are persistently silenced, Márquez has weaved an intriguing tale, revolving around this elderly couple endeavoring to defend their honor and that of their deceased son. The colonel and his wife, although extraordinarily defiant during the hardest of times, are relatable, and their grief remarkably palpable. Simplicity is unquestionably the strength of this heartfelt tale.
In the middle of the novella, the colonel acknowledges with sadness, "All my comrades died waiting for the mail." It is the same with the colonel. He will wait until death devours him too. Heartbreaking.

الكولونيل خاصتك لم يقصر مع دولته بل حارب ببسالة و لم يفرط في الأمانه ثم تغذى على الصبر بقية حياته أما الجنرال خاصتنا فقد تربي كالديك و غذيناه بالغالي و الثمين و حرمنا أنفسنا من كل متعة في سبيل أن نراه منفوشا في ساحة القتال فلما رأيناه منفوشا كانت نفشته في ساحتنا و صيحته علينا.
الكولونيل الذي ينتظر الفرج عبر البحر لن تقر عينه أبدا و كذلك الجنرال الذي ينتظر أن يأتيه الفرج عبر الخليج لن يجني إلا المزيد من الفقر و الخزي له و لشعبه.

Povestirea lui Márquez se înscrie în lunga serie a cărților despre așteptare. Un personaj (sau mai multe) așteaptă pe cineva (sau ceva), dar finalul acestei așteptări pare să se amîne indefinit.
Î Castelul lui Franz Kafka, arpentorul așteaptă să fie primit de stăpînul locului (contele de Westwest), dar este împiedicat de numeroșii lui funcționari (cu temutul Klamm în frunte). Î Deșertul tătarilor, romanul lui Dino Buzzati, locotenentul Giovanni Drogo așteaptă năvălirea furibundă a dușmanilor, dar, pînă în pragul morții, nu are parte de nici o bătălie. Năvălitorii își amînă atacul. Î Așteptîndu-l pe Godot, piesa lui Samuel Beckett, personajul „central� nu-și face apariția, chiar dacă e invocat din două în două replici. Estragon şi Vladimir rămîn cu buzele umflate, dar optimiști. Î Așteptîndu-i pe barbari de J.M. Coetzee, nici un barbar nu pîndește fortul. Totul e un zvon nefondat, lumea trăiește în pace, pînă la sosirea Աșٱٲă a barbarului interior.
Povestirea lui Márquez putea fi intitulată și „Î� fața Legii�, ca parabola lui Franz Kafka (circulă și de sine stătător, deși e citată și comentată de preot în Procesul), în care un „om de la țară� și-ar dori să fie admis în clădirea strălucitoare a Legii. Poarta este mereu deschisă, dar el nu îndrăznește să intre. Abia după moartea protagonistului, poarta se închide.
Colonelul lui Márquez (nu-i aflăm numele) a luptat cu mulți ani în urmă, într-un război civil. Guvernul a hotărît să acorde foștilor combatanți o pensie, politicienii au aprobat-o în Parlament, s-a anunțat asta și în gazete. Colonelul a făcut toate demersurile, a completat zeci de documente, a vorbit și cu un avocat („un negru înalt cît o statuie�) și așteaptă un semn, o veste, o scrisoare. Poșta e lîngă debarcader (satul se întinde de-a lungul unui rîu), corespondența și ziarele sosesc în fiecare vineri. Medicul are, de obicei, noroc, colonelul nu. Așteaptă de 20 de ani, poate chiar de mai multă vreme. Nimic nu-l clintește din așteptarea lui. Ar trebui să fie chinuit de îndoieli, de scepticism, dar nu este. Doar soția lui îi atrage atenția că a trecut intolerabil de mult și că vor muri, pînă la urmă, de foame: „Am aşteptat cît a fost de aşteptat, îi spune soţia. Trebuie să aibă cineva o răbdare de bou, ca tine, ca să poată aştepta o scrisoare timp de cincisprezece ani�.
Colonelul a împlinit 75 de ani, dar e încă breaz: „Era un om uscat, cu oasele bine articulate, de parcă ar fi fost înşurubate. Ochii săi erau plini de vitalitate; nu părea nicidecum o mortăciune conservată în formol�. Chiar dacă e un bărbat în vigoare, colonelul nu pare să fi muncit vreodată, nu știm din ce-a trăit. Asta e foarte ciudat pentru un om care așteaptă de 20 de ani o pensie. A avut un băiat, Agustín, care a murit cu 6 luni în urmă, împușcat pentru activități subversive. Îțelegem că țara e în stare de asediu. Lumea trebuie să se retragă în case la ora 11 seara, cînd bate clopotul bisericii.
Dar cel mai bizar lucru din povestire e că bătrînul crește un cocoș de luptă, un „campion�, și că foștii prieteni ai fiului său (croitorul Álvaro, ucenicul lui, Germán, chiar și don Sabas, bogătașul satului) își pun mari speranțe în el.
Ultima replică a colonelului (n-o voi transcrie aici) pare a sugera că el știe foarte bine că a așteptat în zadar... (20.10.24.d)

La esperanza de que algo suceda en esta historia es un poquito parecido a lo que vive el protagonista.
El coronel después de 15 años sigue sin recibir su pensión como veterano. Y con ello nos cuentan su historia en la cual, por la ingratitud de un gobierno que abandona a quienes lucharon por su patria, ahora sufre económicamente. Su esposa está con la salud comprometida y su única posesión valiosa es un gallo que heredaron de su hijo acribillado.
Es triste de leer y maravilloso de recordar la pluma del Gabo. Hay frases que te transmiten sensaciones como el insoportable calor, el agobio y vergüenza de seguir esperando una carta que jamás llegará.
Como dije al principio, esperaba un catalizador que guiara la trama a algo más, pero me quedé como el Coronel.
Mi favorito de Márquez sigue siendo “Crónica de una muerte anunciada�.

Unsurprisingly, nothing much seems to happen in the spare storyline and it's all about evoking the claustrophobic atmosphere of humid, sun-struck, torpid days in a one-horse-town in the tropics. A pleasant read on a lazy Sydney summer afternoon - lying in bed in boxer shorts, listening to the cicadas and trying to summon enough energy to go downstairs to raid the fridge for some pistachio gelato.

Una novela corta - en realidad, un cuento extendido - sobre un hombre que se ha quedado al costado del camino por culpa de unos acontecimientos que escapan a su control y que ahora espera el final de sus días con la esperanza de un milagro que nunca llega. Como era de esperar, no parece ocurrir gran cosa en la delgada trama y todo se centra en evocar la atmósfera claustrofóbica de unos días húmedos, letárgicos y azotados por el sol en un pueblucho en el trópico. Una lectura agradable en una perezosa tarde de verano en Sydney - tumbado en la cama en calzoncillos, escuchando las cigarras y tratando de reunir la energía suficiente para bajar a asaltar la nevera por un poco de helado de pistacho.

Una novela corta - en realidad, un cuento extendido - sobre un hombre que se ha quedado al costado del camino por culpa de unos acontecimientos que escapan a su control y que ahora espera el final de sus días con la esperanza de un milagro que nunca llega. Como era de esperar, no parece ocurrir gran cosa en la delgada trama y todo se centra en evocar la atmósfera claustrofóbica de unos días húmedos, letárgicos y azotados por el sol en un pueblucho en el trópico. Una lectura agradable en una perezosa tarde de verano en Sydney - tumbado en la cama en calzoncillos, escuchando las cigarras y tratando de reunir la energía suficiente para bajar a asaltar la nevera por un poco de helado de pistacho.

Curioso, como a veces esperamos algo que nunca llega. Como esperamos eso que creemos merecer y nos aferramos a eso pese a que nos está hundiendo. Me llamaron la atención varias cosas de este libro, incluyendo el hecho de que su esposa haya comenzado a gastarse un dinero de un gallo que ni habían vendido.

Publicada en 1961, esta corta novela concebida inicialmente como una comedia pasó a tomar forma de una historia dramática en la que por palabras del mismo autor es la mejor novela que ha podido escribir hasta llegar a considerarla su mayor ᴏʙʀᴀ ᴍᴀᴇsᴛʀᴀ como él mismo la llamaría. Una historia melancólica y muy personal; donde Gabriel García Márquez aborda temas como la depresión, la pobreza, la angustia y la injusticia. Un autor de excelente calidad y con una prolífica obra que entre sus novelas de menor volumen muestra en resumidas dosis la esencia perfecta para acercanos a un autor de tamaña maestría.
Un coronel junto a su enfermiza esposa forman una pareja de ancianos que viven una cruda realidad entre la penuria y la miseria. Fiel a sus convicciones el coronel se nos presenta con un personaje intachable y en la constante espera de una respuesta que nunca llegará. Un hombre esperanzado en una respuesta que servirá de salvación para hacer frente a sus calamidades y adversidad. Junto a ellos convive un gallo al que crían con esmero, animal que simboliza la esperanza, la vida y la dignidad del coronel. Una trama que nace a partir de eventos sucedidos al abuelo de Gabriel García Márquez y que plasma en esta novela adheriendo detalles personales de manera magistral.

Olvidé que era su cumpleaños. Pero cómo será el lazo que tengo con usted, que desde ayer en la noche no dejaba de pensarlo, intentando decidir cuál obra suya debía acompañarme en el trayecto de la mañana. Al salir de casa, el elegido fue 'El Coronel'. Y el reencuentro ha sido fantástico -en algún pueblito de Colombia, en donde no escampa, en donde nació y vive una parte de la mejor literatura mundial.
Esas fueron las palabras que dediqué en mi instagram, el lunes pasado, cuando tomé esta novela corta de García Márquez para iniciar la semana. La primera vez que la leí fue hace unos cinco años y fue uno de los últimos títulos del autor que leí. Raro, considerando que es también una de las obras más conocidas del autor. Sucede que por muchos años estuve obsesionada con "Cien Años..." y tuvo que pasar un largo tiempo para que me animara a aventurarme con otras de las novelas de Gabo, como si tuviera miedo de romper el hechizo de la primera -y la mejor- novela y no quisiera salir del mundo macondiano.
Siendo totalmente sincera, hay veces que aún pienso en el verdadero significado de "El Coronel..." y que me hubiera gustado un final más definido. Puedo asumir que el Coronel anónimo siguió esperando y no se murió de hambre... y quizá hubo algún triunfo en las peleas de gallo. Pero, ¿y si no?
Usualmente no coloco entre mis favoritos los libros cuyo final es tan abierto, pero a esta novela se lo perdono, porque sé que hay algo más. Quizá dos relecturas no sean suficientes -porque descubrir el universo de García Márquez nos exige siempre más, nos obliga a volver. Y en la terquedad, y en la esperanza y en la paciencia (tal y como la del Coronel) encontramos el significado real, viendo más allá de lo evidente.
Además, volver a Gabo es una experiencia única. Siendo uno de mis escritorios favoritos, intento releer alguna de sus obras por lo menos una vez al año porque es como volver a casa, encontrando el camino de las palabras, con el calor opresor del Caribe, con esa sabiduría directa sobre el amor, entre calles polvorientas en las que pueblos aparentemente olvidados, representan los temores y deseos de la humanidad.

Гениална новела! „Полковникъ� няма кой да му пише� ме впечатли по-силно от „Ст� години самота� и с удоволствие бих прочел още такива разтърсващи творби на Маркес. В нея става дума за драматичната история на полковник, който от дълги години очаква пенсията си, обещана му след някогашна гражданска война. Въпреки че със съпругата му живеят в голяма бедност, той отглежда боен петел...

In this incredibly short novel, García Márquez tells the story of an elderly and senile Colonel who, every Friday, waits to receive his pension in the post. However, he's never received his pension. Not once in fifteen years. Both the Colonel and his wife live in destitution in a small village in war-torn Colombia. They grieve the death of their son and try to sell off their belongings in order to continue living.
This is an utterly pessimistic novel. The Colonel and his wife are living hopeless lives and in this hopelessness, García Márquez thrives. Nothing happens in the novel. There isn't a beginning or an ending. Like in we are dropped into the middle of a story. We are observers of the Colonel and we can't help him.
This is a really fantastic little story and shows are clear improvement in the structure and story problems I found in . Take me away Gabo!

آخ سرهنگ بیچاره! درسته دلم برات سوخت، اما حرصمو درآوردی! سرهنگ یه پیرمرد مظلومه که کسی بهش نامه نمینویس� و تو انتظار و فقر داره تلف میشه� میتون� برای نجات خودش یه کاری بکنهها� ولی عقیدهها� بهش اجازه این کارو نمید� و مصرانه فقط منتظره.
اولین تجربها� از این نویسنده بود و جذاب و خوندنی بود. اما آخرش چیزی که انتظار داشتم اتفاق نیفتاد و چه بهتر :)

لا يحتاج ماركيز منى ولا من غيرى إشادة بعمل من أعماله
أو إشارة إلى جوانب فنية ف ثنايا هذه الرواية أو تلك
تجاوز المعلم كل ذلك، وصار كائنا خرافيا
يكفى أن يذكر اسمه فقط
لتعرف أنك بصدد ملحمة إبداعية
وإن جاءت ف صفحات قليلة، كالنوفيللا التى بين أيدينا

دقة ف رسم الملامح الشخصية والنفسية، تصاعد لوتيرة السرد بإحكام مثير للحسد، حقيقة :)

كولونيل متقاعد من جيش الثورة يذهب كل أسبوع إلى مكتب البريد ينتظر رسالة يتوقف عليها مصير الباقى من حياته، ولكن ليس لدى الكولونيل من يكاتبه.
ديك مصارعة يحرك الأحداث دون وعى.
فى اللحظة التى تم فيها ذكر اسم ( اوريليانو بوينديا ) تمنيت لو كان هذا يعنى وجود عالم درامى متصل خاص بماركيز كعالم مارڤل السينمائى .
ليس لدى الكولونيل من يكاتبه هى ابنة مئة عام من العزلة. السحر الماركيزى الذى يجعلك تشعر أن هذا العالم حقيقي رغم خيالية أحداثه، ولهذا يطلق على أدب ماركيز أدب الواقعية السحرية. لا يمكنك أن تتخيل وجود هذه العوالم أو الأشخاص ولكن فى نفس الوقت لا تستطيع نفى إمكانية وجودها.
أشعر دوما بالملل من التفاصيل التى لا قيمة لها كالوصف المفرط لأشكال الناس والأماكن والملابس ولكن مع ماركيز لا. الوصف هو جزء أساسى من هذا العالم، لو انتزعته لانهار كل شىء.
نهاية النوڤيلا هى لحظة التفجر التى لا يمكن تصور نهاية أفضل منها لكل هذا السحر والعبث الروائى الذى يتقنه ماركيز،وستترك على وجهك ابتسامة وفى قلبك حزنا، وفى عقلك حيرة عن مصير الكولونيل وديك مصارعته المشؤوم.

Диктатурам свойственно забывать своих героев. Габриэль Гарсия Маркес это очень точно подметил. Престарелый ветеран гражданской войны остался без средств к существованию, без пенсии. Его единственный сын был убит за распространение политических листовок. Все вещи старики продали,им грозит реальная смерть от голода. Полковник верит в справедливость и уже пятнадцать лет ждёт письмо о пенсии. Несмотря на голод, оба старика горды, чтобы просить о помощи. Жена полковника варит камни, чтобы соседи не думали, что они голодают. Полковник заявляет, что не носит шляпу, чтобы ни перед кем ее не снимать.
Если Вы думаете, что это художественный вымысел и в наше время ли другие, то это не так. Люди также верят в справедливость и также годами ждут помощи от государства за свои заслуги. Я читала статью об одном казахстанском ликвидаторе аварии на Чернобыльской АЭС Нагашибае Жусупове. Он поехал туда, рисковал своей жизнью, ему, как и другим, обещали квартиру. Большинство получили какие-то льготы и даже квартиры. Он же всю жизнь прожил в общежитии и все ждал обещанную квартиру. К сожалению, история закончилась трагически: когда вышел нашумевший сериал о Чернобыле производства HBO, уже 60-летний пожилой человек Нагашибай Жусупов просмотрел его. Этот сериал всколыхнул все его чувства, он проплакал несколько дней, а потом покончил с собой.
Маркес не раскрывает нам, что же было дальше, как старики прожили эти 45 дней до января. Скорее всего боролись, судя по раскрытым великим мастером характерах. Но я знаю, что равнодушные чиновники и равнодушное государство даже не вспомнят о героях.
