Jemma Bowers hasn’t kissed anyone in over a thousand days. She knows—she’s counted.

For twenty-year-old Jemma, rules are not meant to be broken…even if she’s the one who created them. Friendships have boundaries, relationships mean trouble, and don’t even get her started on sex. Haunted by the death of her mother and her father’s abandonment, Jemma finds herself hungry for something meaningful and permanent, but is afraid of what may happen if she pursues it.

Jordan Capshaw can’t fight his addiction. Not even if it will cost him his career

When Jemma finds Jordan drunk and barefoot in the street, she convinces him to get in her car. Aside from the fact he’s the lead singer of her favorite band and pretty much the rock star of her dreams, she quickly realizes his addiction is a monster neither of them can control.

Who knew choosing between a rock star and a fireman could be so difficult?

Emotions run high as Jemma soon finds herself caught between the troubled rock star and her growing affections for Vic Harper, a swoon-worthy firefighter from her past. But when her grandmother passes away, leaving her with no other family, Jemma’s world falls apart.

To save herself from further heartbreak, she risks it all by breaking her own rules, and putting her heart on the line.

After all, the heart just might be the biggest rule breaker of them all.

I liked this book, and I love this author. It's the dialogue that stands out for me.

It's refreshing to read a romance with genuine and natural dialogue, and that's what I found here.

“Raining Down Rules by B.K. Rivers is a well written novel that I enjoyed reading. The author created interesting characters and developed a great chemistry among them.

I get what the author was pointing at like “the positon that dreams have in real life sure but to come this close ? I would have felt better if the one "WINNING" her heart would have been “different and the “LOOSER in this game would get the next book because he deserved it but like this ???

So liking a book in the end is not only about the journey that the story takes but also about the end. And honestly I am having major issues about the end which is my reason for only giving 3 stars. If it were only for the writing style and plot development this book would have received a better voting but in the END it is the END that counts.

Still I will not hesitate to pick up another book by this author

Overview:
Jemma Bowers lives by a set of rules she has compiled for the past three years, a list created through a devastating event when she was seventeen that made her question everything about herself. Now, called back to her childhood home to care for an ailing grandmother, Jemma meets two men who force her to rethink the rules she has guarded herself with for so long Jordan, bad boy rockstar who threatens to bring her fantasies to life, and Vic, hunky fireman whose charm and wicked dimples seem determined to knock her off her feet. She can only find true love by following her heart and trusting herself.

Writing:
This book fits the checkmarks I always find in a romance: unexpected arrival of love interest just when the lead isn’t looking, life’s turmoil creating tension, and of course intense physical moments. In fact, I think the sexy bits were some of the best written ones! I enjoyed feeling Jemma’s nervousness, doubt, and eventual pleasure if she succumbed to her desires. However, through the piece, it felt like the editor hadn’t really done an efficient sweep into the prose. After the repetitive language, spliced usage of contractions, no punctuation to signify compound sentences, and quite a few of those hang-on words usually deleted in a thorough edit, I was left feeling this novel could’ve shined much brighter had the editor taken just a little more time.

Characters:
Jemma is a complicated, meticulous character, and for the most part she comes off understandable. Who wouldn’t be playing emotional tug of war when choosing between a rockstar and a fireman? However, I assumed as I read that this was a close first person, but more often than not the character was explaining in detail how she was feeling about certain events instead of allowing me to infer and project these thoughts from her actions. The parts I felt more in tune with Jemma, were the sexy scenes, when the majority of explanation came through in her reactions to each man’s touch. Jemma’s rules are a great, telling fact about her, but I didn’t find out the reason behind these rules until around 170 pages into the book! I’m not saying this was badly done but, for me, I couldn’t understand why Jemma acted the way she did for the entire first half of the book.

Vic is by far my favorite character. Despite coming off slightly stalker-ish at the start (running into her three times in one day? No town is that small), he evolved into a caring, dependable, and incredibly likable guy. He really is the type every girl dreams of being with at least once in their life. His affection, patience, even his jealousies fit into the person Rivers was trying to convey, so I count his character a major success.

Jordan…how do I explain Jordan? Yes, the fantasy appeal is there. He’s hot, he’s dangerous, he’s famous (and no doubt has a sexy singing voice). But the temper, the addiction, and occasional physical violence had me turning off from him damn fast. He became a great character of struggle and survival, but as a potential love interest? I spent most of the book wondering why on earth she would risk hurting Vic for this guy who left bruises on her wrist. This could, obviously, be personal preference, though. Being the one to help a guy reach their potential is a constantly seen relationship.

Gran was PERFECT. Do you hear me, readers? PERFECT. I wish my grammy was witty and snappy as Jemma’s. Her story is heartbreaking, but that proves she was a character one could easily connect with. From the moment she appeared on the page, she was unforgettable.

Final Rating:
This is a fun, fast read. Maybe a vacation flight, hanging by the pool, or just when you’re in the mood for some innocent, sexy tension. For me, Jemma just became rather unlikable by the end of the book. I could not understand the choices she made and the ruin she risked until finally coming to her senses in the final pages. That, paired with the lackluster editing, left me with while not unenjoyable a diminished impact. I would still recommend this to anyone looking for a quick, relaxing read with on point writing in the sexier sections.

This was a great, entertaining book with unexpected depth. At one point I wondered if this story was written for me, because I have a thing for firemen and hot bad boy rock stars. Of course the answer is no, I was just lucky to stumble across it. I enjoyed how the story unfolded and I also liked Jemma’s personality. She’s a great combo of strength and weakness. Jemma is a smart girl that built a few high walls around her heart and is trying to figure out how to wield a sledgehammer to knock them down. She’s also faced with some interesting situations and life changing options. It kept me turning the pages.

I’ll admit, I tend to steer clear of books with characters battling addiction, but this story was about so much more than a rock star’s drug issues. I also think the cover is a bit misleading. Although I absolutely enjoy the image, I have a bad habit of judging books by their cover. If I didn’t read what Raining Down Rules is about, I would assume the pages contained lots of words about a hot fireman who spends a lot of time topless, playing with leather straps and naked women. While the fireman is certainly hot, and B.K. Rivers brings some heat (she does it rather well I might add!), there’s more depth to the story than the cover portrays. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did! Let me know what you think!

How do you choose between a guy you just met whose perfect and a flawed rock god you've had a crush on since you were a teenager, all the while having rules and boundaries in place to prevent yourself from any further heartbreak. That's Jemma's dilemma in this book.
I really liked this story. It was an interesting love story. The characters were complex and well developed. While reading I really could not predict how it was going to end and the story held my attention from start to finish. There were complex issues in this book ranging from drug addiction, abandonment, miscarriage and the author did a really good job of tackling all of them and overcoming them.
I really felt for Jemma in this book, and for someone so young she had a lot to deal with in her lifetime. BK Rivers really did put a lot of emotion in this story and indeed it really was a well written story with a great HEA ending.

Jemma has lived through so much in her short 20 years. She has also kept one of the biggest secrets ever and never told a soul... That changes one day and it will completely change her.

Jordan is a rock-star who has messed up his life with drugs and alcohol. Jordan was Jemma' s idol growing up. One day, she goes to a concert that would complicate her life. As for Vic, he is a man who has tries every chance to get Jemma to go on a date with him. Two men, one girl. Who will she choose in the end?

Raining Down Rules was very enjoyable. I loved love how Jemma transformed her life. She was a girl that would go by the book, with no exceptions to slowly letting herself open to many things. She started to enjoy life more and she enjoyed learning new things she never thought she would enjoy. I love reading how she cared so much of her grandmother. She scarified so much, even her education to do so. It was time for Jemma to enjoy life. The life she deserves to live. That is why I really loved Jordan and Vic falling for her. She deserves all the love. I just couldn't pick one. Jordan had Jemma in mind all the time and she became his muse. He started to write songs and I swoon with his music. While Vic had his life together and knew what he wanted in life. He had so much to offer.

Raining Down is fantastic! I couldn't put it down. It was a fast, easy and entertaining read. I didn't know what Jemma would do next. The fact that I didn't know who she would chose had me going crazy! This is a great love story everyone should read.

Loved Raining Down Rules!!!

After a tragic event, Jemma Bowers created her own rules about friendship and relationships. But when she has to go back to her hometown to care for her sick grandmother and meeting Jordan Capshaw, the bad boy rockstar, and Vic Harper, her high school crush, she finds that maybe breaking her rules are what is best for her.

Raining Down Rules is a captivating book with an incredible story. It is very emotional and has lots of drama, but also very sexy scenes. I loved that the story was told from different POVs.

I loved Jemma. She went through a lot in her life. And she is only twenty! She is very strong and follows her rules to a T. At first I didn't understand why she has all those rules, but when the truths comes out, I connected better with Jemma. Throughout the book, Jemma grows a lot and starts letting loose a bit and starts breaking her own rules.
Jordan is a bad boy rockstar, loved and adored by many. He is hot and deep down is a good guy. But he has an addiction. And sometimes that addiction is stronger than him, making him do things that he knows he shouldn't. Sometimes I didn't know if I loved him or if I hated him.
I loved Vic! He is the total opposite of Jordan. He is sweet, kind, very gentle, caring, and hot. He is a good guy and I couldn't help but fall for him.

B.K. Rivers wrote a fantastic book, with an amazing story and awesome characters. Raining Down Rules is a fast and easy read that you'll not be able to put down. can't wait to read Jordan's story!

Jemma has lived through so much in her short 20 years of life, she has also kept one of the biggest secrets ever and never told a soul, until one day she could and she felt this weight lift off her.. Jordan is a Rock Star who has messed up his life with drugs and alcohol, Jordan was Jemma' s idol growing up. One day she went to a concert that would forever change her life, and complicate it too. Vic is a man who trys at every chance to get Jemma to go on a date with him.. Who will she choose in the end Jordan or Vic?
What I enjoyed most about Raining Down Rules is Watching Jemma go from following her rules to a T to one day slowly letting them slide, and opening up about the things she has lived through, and watching her take such care of her Gram, gave up school to be there for the one person who was always there for her growing up, also watching both Vic and Jordan fall for her. Jordan thought of Jemma all the time, and was able to start to write songs again. While Vic had his life together and knew what he wanted in life.
This book is fantastic, I couldnt put it down it was a fast, easy and entertaining read. Kept you guessing what would happen and who she would pick. This story has a Rock Star who is famous for drinking, drugs and lots of woman. While Jemma is trying to live life and care for her Gram who has Cancer when 2 men come into her life unexpectedly, and turn her world around. A love Story. If you like stories like this, then Raining Down Rules is a must!!

I don't read many love triangle romances, but when B.K. offered an ARC in exchange for an honest review, I decided to give this one a shot. The summary intrigued me! I wasn't disappointed.

The author's writing drew me in from page one. Jemma was such a believable character, and I absolutely adored her granny. I vacillated between wanting to strangle Jordan and wanting to hug him. He's such a difficult character with his addictions and poor-me attitude, but I really enjoyed reading about him. I have such a huge soft spot for the troubled bad-boys. They're so much more realistic to me than the manwhore bad-boys.

I loved how Jemma didn't take any crap from him! From the word go, she stood up for herself and didn't let him get away with anything. She's strong, compassionate, and a really great character.

I enjoyed Vic, but I didn't *love* him. That has more to do with my day job than anything the author did wrong. When firefighters are your coworkers, a little of the mystique wears off. :)

I won't spoil the book for you by telling you who Jemma ultimately chooses, but I will say I cannot wait for the second book!

If you're down for a good love triangle and a few tears, this one is for you.

Wow, what a good book. I read it all in one sitting. The author did a great job of straddling the emotions Jemma had for Jordan Capshaw and Vic Harper. Though you could see why someone would fall for a Rock Star, his demons were so great that you could also see how they could drag someone like Jemma, with her own emotional baggage, down a dangerous path.

Jordan was a train wreck waiting to happen. The fact that Jemma took him home and tried to help him was more than I would have ever done for any stranger, Rock Star crush or not.

Vic was like a breath of fresh air. He was so good for her that it was easy to see why she could fall for someone like him. The one thing I did miss was a question that was asked, yet never answered, in the book; Why was Vic still single? He was such a good guy it was amazing no one had ever snapped him up sooner. I loved how he didn't give up on her, even when it would have been easy to do so.

I didn't really love the best friend, Trish, though. Although she was the free spirit to Jemma reserved and guarded personality, she sill was a little on the selfish side. I wasn't really sure why they were friends.

I'm definitely looking forward to reading the next book.

*** I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review***

Raining Down Rules is an enjoyable contemporary that I recommend to everyone who loves the genre. And hey -- the chance to meet your celeb crush? Where can I sign?!

All characters really stand their own, and I was happy to see that I could switch POVs without knowing whose POV it actually was -- their voice made it clear. Each character was really unique, both in voice and characteristics.

My favourite character was grandma, and more than once she made me smile.

I had a bit more trouble connecting to Jemma, and during the first part of the book I was a little thrown off because of her 'rules' for which the reason wasn't very clear to me. That said, the pacing in the first part was also a little slow -- but please note that this is a very personal preference.

Thank you to the author of this book for a free copy for an honest review. When I first started the book I didn't know what to expect as it wasn't like the normal romance books that I had read, and at some points I was finding myself having to re -read bits as I found it slightly hard to understand. I almost gave up on finishing the book as the author was making it look like she was going to end up making Jemma make the wrong choice in her love triangle! The last few chapters for me were definitely the best ones and I found myself reading it a lot quicker as I didn't want to miss anything that happened! It was a great story line and a follow up book would be good

An Emotional Read

This well written book really stirred my emotions for Jemma, the 20 year old heroine of this book who has known such heartache in her life in her young life and the heartache and conflict continue. Her grandmother, who has been her rock is in Stage 4 cancer and Jemma finds herself in love with two men, Jordan the rockstar who she has loved for six years, and Vic, a young firefighter. The storyline pulled at my heartstrings as she painfully deals with the reality that she may have waited too long to claim the love of the man who has consistently put her welfare and feelings above his own.

Impressive...

I have to say out of all the books I've read over the years, this is one of the best female leads. Jemma is so strong. However it's the choices she makes that stand out the most. She doesn't do stupid things that make you want to yell at the characters or author. She gives you exactly what you need and does in while being true to herself. The males in the store are good too but it's Jemma who makes this novel the best.

First book in the Raining Down series. Full length told in dual POV with HEA. Can be read and enjoyed as stand-alone. Secondary characters are interconnected throughout the series. This book is the darker side of sex, drugs, and rock n roll. Jemma must give up her teenage dream to see how wonderful Vic is for her. Wonderful epilogue!

The story is about a young girl named Jemma. She is 20 years old and is going to college in New York. Jemma was raised by her grandma because her mom died when she was little and her dad took her to live with her grandma at the age of 4 and never came back. Jemma doesn’t date much she has made rules about dating and tries to live by those rules. Jemma’s grandma gets cancer and so Jemma moves back home to help her.
Jemma is like any other young girl, she has always been in love with a rock star. She has dreamed of marrying him. One night when she is picking up medicine in a nearby town for her grandma she goes to a concert of the rock star she has been in love with. He sees her in line and tries to get her to come back stage. She ends up picking him up on the street later that night and takes him home with her. Well Jordan has a drug addiction and is an alcoholic and Jemma thinks she can help him change. Time goes on and Jordan goes back to drugs.
In the meantime, Jemma meets a guy she went to school with, Vic. Vic wants to go out with Jemma and goes out of his way to make that happen. Jemma thinks she has found Mr. Right with Vic. Vic is the perfect man, has a wonderful job as a fireman, is building his own home, and helps his family on the farm.
Jemma goes back and forth trying to figure out who she is in love with during the story and her grandma tells her to follow her heart.
I won’t give the ending away but I can tell you this. You will not want to put the book down. I cried a lot and loved every minute of it. What are you waiting on? Go read it

Well that took a different line to what I was expecting ...

I've had my eye on this book for a while. However, with my crazy tbr pile I couldn't bring myself to buy it as I knew it'd be forever before I got to it. Anyway, when I saw it up free I had to grab it. And now that I have no ARCs for a few months I needed to read it.

Raining Down Rules is well-written and a different story. I'm not going to tell you why it's different, since that will ruin things, but it definitely doesn't follow the usual tropes. I'm still undecided if that's a good thing though. I can't decide which team I'm on.

Anyway, it's a likeable read that held my interest well. I didn't expect to read it in one sitting but I refused to go in out of the sun with the end of summer approaching so this book kept me company.

The characters were in general likeable. I'm still not sure on the plot and the ending. It my be a little flat for my tastes but overall a good read and I'll more than likely check out the next in the series.

Jemma's heart is carefully guarded behind walls. Solidly built, impenetrable fortress like walls. And with good reason. After losing her mother when she was only 3 in a car accident, then 12 months later her father abandons her leaving her to grow up with her grandmother, you can't blame her for trying to keep everyone at arms length.

However when her teenage crush, rockstar Jordan Capshaw stumbles shoeless, drunk and higher than a kite Jemma can't force herself to look away. Picking him up she takes him home and attempts to save him. But how do you save someone who doesn't want to be saved?

I loved the real emotion of this book and the struggle Jemma endured between her heart and her head - knowing that her heart is leading her towards the good guy Vic, the guy who'd give her the world while her head reminds her of the man she imagined Jordan to be.

A truly well written, emotional read!

A Rollercoaster of Emotions

I loved this book! I couldn't put it down! I ran the full battery out on my kindle. I definately recommend giving this a read! I loved that pretty much each chapter flips back and forth from one characters perspective to the next. It flows seemlessly. I fell in love with the characters. And will take a copy of Vic anyday. I think most women would love to have what Jemma finds in him. I went from whew that's getting hot, to oh my gosh, tears, anger and sadness. Whew it was alot in the book. But I don't think it would have been as great if it hadn't have been done the way it was done.

I was given this book for free for an honest review.

This was an interesting Romantic read. The main character Jemma has a plan to keep men at arms length because of her secret until her Rock Star fantasy crush Jordan literally stumbles in and out her life.
When he stumbles out a man she went to high school with pursues her and they start to date.
She struggles with the feelings she has for both men, all while caring for her ailing Gran.
I liked the story and the characters in it. I can relate to it as well.

Absolutely amazing read. Such an emotional roller coaster ride. How do you choose between 2 men? One who you've had a crush on since your teens and the other a Rock Star (who just happens to be in your favourite band). Only the heart truly knows what it wants and sometimes it pays to listen to it and NOT your head. I was glued to this story from the very first page and was so sad when it was done. I could have kept on reading, I enjoyed it so much. Grab yourself a copy, you won't be sorry.

I think she made the right choice, but now I want the others story because everyone deserves a HEA. I can not wait for the next book in this series!! I loved each of the characters and stayed up for two nights reading this story. I just could not put it down needing to know what would happen next!
