From the author of the best-selling Ride Series comes the new Talon Security series! **** I didn’t realize I was falling, not until my heart was lost in love with him.
After years of close friendship with former Marine and security specialist, Sid Masters, Samantha McAllister finds herself grappling with feelings far beyond friendship. After a line is crossed, Sam’s heart is broken in the process.
When Sam gets caught up in a web of deceit and violence that brings the Russian mafia to her door, Sid will stop at nothing to protect her.
Samantha belongs with Sid; she just doesn’t know it yet. He’s determined to show her.
With the men of Talon at his back, Sid fights to protect his girl and to reclaim her heart.
This is the story of Sam and Sid.
Book One of the Talon Security series, can be read as a stand alone.
* Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.
Megan O'Brien is the best selling author of The Ride Series and the Talon Security Series. She has a passion for a good love story and most enjoys writing stories with an alpha male and strong female characters. Megan was born and raised in Marin County, California where she still resides with her amazing husband and two lovely sons.
When she's not enjoying family time or burying her nose in her kindle she loves hiking, running and relaxing moments on the back porch with a glass of wine.
This is a best friends to lovers book with a surprising good thriller twist. I will admit this book surprised me and I enjoyed this one very much.
Sam, a struggling musician, has fallen in love with her best friend Sid, a retired Navy Seal, turned security agent. She has no idea when her feelings changed but they have and she is not able to hide them after a night of a few drinks, a little pool and finding out he has a date with another gal.
Leaving in a storm of anger, Sam runs home. She needs to get away from the man that has her heart twisted. Sid follows her and asks what the hell is going on. She blurts everything in the heat of anger. Her words leave Sid shocked, leading him to crash into for a night of passion. Their passion is short lived when Sid steps away and regret consumes him.
Their dynamics change that night and Sam leaves her friendship behind for a while. Her feelings never leave her heart but she must move on from Sid and his rejection.
Life takes an unexpected turn, and Sam is tossed into the middle of a dangerous ordeal that puts her life in danger. She is rescued by her brother Travis and Sid. Their security agency steps and protects Sam from the danger she has been tossed into.
Sid sees this as his change to get back the woman and best friend he has loved from day one but never acted on his feelings. Protecting her is his number job and making her understand that the past rejection had nothing to do with her, it was him and the issues he had with himself.
They reconnect during a time of danger and are absolutely the cutest couple I have read in a very long time.
"He pulled me so tight against him, I wasn't sure where I ended and he began."
Megan O'Brien did a fabulous job writing a sweet story with a side of thriller, suspense that was the perfect story to really enjoy.
I am excited to read the rest of the books in this series!! All these men of the "Talon Security Team" are SUPER HOT!!!
I could not wait to dive into another series by Megan O’Brien and judging from this book this is going to be yet another awesome series.
Samantha McAllister has been secretly in love with Sid Masters for years, living with him and playing in a band has taken its toll watching him leave with the perfect models, deciding that she needs to tell him how she feels they spend some explosive moments together but when she thinks all of her dreams have come true he runs from her breaking her heart. Now he is working as a security specialist for her brother she avoids him at all costs. It’s been six months since she has seen Sid when she bumps into him while working as a waitress at a wedding with yet again a perfect model on his arm he tries to talk to her but she isn’t willing to return to the past and is trying to move on. That is until she somehow finds herself embroiled with the Russian Mafia and beaten and being protected by the one man who destroyed her and claims to be here to make her his can she really take another risk with her heart or shut the door on a future with Sid for good?
Six months ago Sid Masters made the biggest mistake of his life when he walked away from Sam, scared that his inner demons would ruin the one woman he has ever loved but now he is back and ready to claim the woman made just for him but she is pushing him at every turn and now that she is in danger he is determined to protect her no matter what. But can Sid convince Sam to give him a chance at making her happy or has he lost her?
Excellent read I was caught up from the start and could not put this book down. Highly recommended read although there could be a scene that’s considered a trigger.
Okay- I decided to go back and finish this. I liked it more after the half way point. Still, I stand by my original review. Though, I will add that I like the men of Talon. I loved seeing Ryker & Piper from the motorcycle series, and I enjoyed Caden, Danika, and Sarah.
I also appreciated the fact that this story was not over whelmed, or completely led by, sex. Thank you to the author for that! I love real content in my stories.
DNF @ 43% I couldn't feel a connection to the couple, nor could I feel any emotional connection to the story line. I felt like the couple was younger than portrayed- and I never felt the seriousness of what was going on. Nor did I feel any sympathy for the H/h during their issues at the beginning, and most importantly- I have a hard time reading books that are written in past tense. Pretty much every action word ended with an 'ed'. Past tense - as the scene is taking place or something is happening right then- drives me nuts! Big pet peeve.
Why do I always think it's a wise idea to start a book at 12am?! Totally worth the lack of sleep though. 4.5stars
I really enjoyed this story, the characters and everything else that came along with it.
Sam is a very enjoyable and relatable character. after being a friend Sid for many years she just couldn't keep up the pretence of their "friendship" when she knew she was in love with him. She didn't choose it nor can she tell you exactly when it turned from your an idiot but I love you as my idiot friend to the starry eyed butterfly's in the stomach secret crush/more than a friend loving. I wasn't Sid's friend in the beginning I'm not going to lie. He didn't do anything drastically horrid nor was he a total basterd. Yet the circumstances around what happened just peeved me. But moving past that.. wow he is just yummy.
When things come to ahead with them in the beginning it's not for a while until they reconnect properly and not on the greatest of circumstances either. But once it happens... holy shit Sparta are flying. The characters give the same vibe as the ride series but with their own unique twist including the fact that they are all certified badasses.
Story was great and flowed seamlessly. With lots of ups and downs it's fair to say it has you on a rollercoaster of emotions without being to angsty and negative. Also the ending is totally on point and super sugary sweet.
Why not 5 stars? Well it's just little things here and there that nit picked at me and even though I loved Sid I kinda wanted a little more about him?! But that's all little things because all round I loved the book.
Samantha McAllister didn't expect for her best friend and secret crush, Sid Masters to find out that she was in love with him. When he did, he walked away and broke her in a way no other could. Now Sid is back and he has plans to make Sam is own, however she is not buying the sudden change of heart. Sid plans to prove to her he is serious, but Sam has found herself in danger with the Russian Mafia unknowingly. Sid plans to protect Sam but as the danger heats up everything else does as well.
Excellent read. I can't wait for the next book, filled with intriguing characters, all of who I hope there are books for. I loved Sid and Samantha, Sid I don't think realized the gravity of what he did with walking away. Sam is trying to move on but Sid is determined to keep them together. Another brilliant read from Megan O'Brien.
It was just okay. Predictable with no surprises. I didn't feel a lot of chemistry between the major characters. Leaning towards two stars but since I've been in a reading slump lately I'm going to give it 3 stars. It had to potential to be more but didn't quite rise to the level that prevented a little boredom while reading.
Tried but the writing is too basic, over explaining everything, dialogue isn’t as it would be said, too formal, and just don’t care about either of them at all. She also doesn’t like dogs
So Sam & Sid been friends for a very long time , Room/House mates, Sid is best mates with Sams brother & works for him Alpha Comando... Sid has some issues... Do they take it to the next level... tried to he freaked out .. not until Sam has her house broken into ,til she gets beat up a bit does the light bulb turn on to full bright for Sam well its always been full bright now its mega watt..lol so his Alpha Bad Ass comes into play & hes all in, great story line building, we get to read about the Knight MC in there cause remember she's Pipers BF, So a great start to another Awesome Series ... Yes Hot Se#y times are had ... :-) Loved It
A quick read that I enjoyed. I love a good old romantic suspense/damsel in distress read and I got that here. However, I think the book would have benefited from a dual POV, even if we only got a few chapters from Sid's POV.
The book was okay I like the security ex military aspect, Sid sounded like he was badass but at the same time kinda cheesy. Sam was great she didnt overthink it and it was quick which was awesome straight to the point. The ending was super awesome and can't wait to hear travis story.
i was going to describe this book as a palette cleanser, then i remembered the murder, kidnapping, mafia shit and i was like ‘oh, nevermind 😍.
this was good though. do i think this fantastic, not particularly? i certainly loved things about this book, and i can’t really think of anything that i disliked, but i don’t think it has enough qualities for me that make it really stand out as a novel. i wouldn’t have minded it being longer, alternating between then and now perspectives as i would’ve loved to have seen more of sid and sam as they started to initially fall in love with each other - i think that would have been something really special considering the gorgeous relationship they have for each other. just some point extra information as to why sid is so insistent on protecting sam, even before the incidents. and because this book was shorter everything was happening really fast, which i didn’t mind because it mirrored the unfathomably fast whirlwind of danger that sam gets caught in, but i’m never mad to get some more character fleshing.
i liked sam, but didn’t love her. there were many things i related to her about, particularly with reciprocating feelings due to ignored trauma. and i liked her music arc, how it is something that she is so passionate about, as well as it being a way to healthy speak without actually having to talk. music is very powerful in that way, and i thought it was beautiful symbolism that i haven’t seen many talk about. i kind of think she was suffering from short girl syndrome at the start, making it into her personality, which…😑…but it inevitably got better because i kept reading. like much with this book, she just didn’t fully capture me, something i that i know will change as i keep reading this series as she keeps appearing (yes, i’ve already decided to read the other two books. sue me. i want to see travis happy 😫)
OMG SID😍😫❤️. ok despite that his name is a massive ick - everytime i saw it i instantly thought of that fucking kid from toy story and that was not fun - he is so slay. that man is a sweet talker. and i feel like if i just got one hug from him all my troubles would be solved. he’s the epitome of the new sza song ‘big boy and it doesn’t help that the song is every second video on my feed, but i just kept singing it everytime he came up. i’m not proud of myself. but at least im honest. alpha men 👹👹 can get on my nerves sometimes, but sid had this insolent charm behind his actions, and seemed to always be looking out for sams best interest. he was equally kind and protective, and i just didn’t know how to handle it. i am very much just in love with the facade of him, however, because neither sid or sam expanded upon. i would have loved to know more about him.
sam and sid had great chemistry throughout, showing the painstaking passion that is unrequited loves, and a gorgeous journey to support one another throughout everything. the romance is cheesy and i don’t care; the fact that i can recognise it is enough for me and it does get better as the story progresses. (my standards are so low help)(this is also really indicative of my mental state help again). what i also really liked about them was that there wasn’t this incessant push and pull, tug of war, of will we or won’t we. it’s can get so exhausting at times to go through that for ages, but these two worked shit out pretty quickly and maturely, and spent much of the book together as a couple. NOW SUE ME, I DONT CARE, BUT SOMETIMES I JUST WANT THE RELATIONSHIP FLUFF. i think it was particularly good in this case due to the crime plot, which was weirdly complicated at times.
the conflict was lacking in any originality and was very predictable, but it didn’t take anything major away from the book. i said complex before, and by that i just mean weird plausibility’s and moments that honestly had me scratching my head. i will always love a good romantic suspense novel. regardless of the plot, there is usually so much angst and tension between characters, unearthed or simply festering, with is fucking delicious. it is most definitely entertaining and a real page turner. this book was not short of any tension or angst, i’ll say that definitively. maybe i just wish that i felt a little more on the edge of my seat, that things felt a lot more dangerous or at stake. i don’t know though.
cute little found family between all of the people at talon security. that’s most likely why i’ll keep reading this series, because i do very much like the surface levels of each character in this series thus far. i’m hoping i get more out of the characters, and a just ending for my love travis.
btw i picked this book up because i forgot how boring the pages 100-200 of ‘the handmaids tale are with attempts to cure my boredom. spoiler alert, i’m no longer bored 💅😘
In spite of the H being a tough alpha man, boy did his eyes soften & warm - A LOT - in just about every chapter. But once you get past that, it's not that bad.
I did however appreciate the fact that the whole book wasn't all about the tug of war of yes we want to be together, but no we don't, although maybe we do. That was settled pretty early on, and then we just got to see them navigate being in a relationship, very refreshing. I liked how they handled the whole "oops no condom" situation.
The conflict was not very original or inventive, in fact it was predictable, but not to the point where it killed the book. If you haven't read any other books by this author like myself, you may find the lack of character background kind of annoying, especially when the story reads like we should already know who these people. I kind of wish this was a KU book, not sure I will read any more of the series.
I am not a fan of relationship drama and this has some in the beginning but I am glad I pushed through because it was great after that. The plot was pretty good. Nothing unbelievable. Sid and Sam have great chemistry and are connected in so many ways. Sid is amazing (after the drama) and Sam is great. She has moments like any irl women would. I think that is what makes her so likeable. At least for me. Romance was really sweet without being over the top or cheesy. Definitely will read again and continue with the rest of the series. The only reason I knocked it down 1 star is because the drama at the beginning lasted too long and isn't something I like in a romance. Real life relationships have enough drama. Even good ones
No offence I love the author and her most of the books but this one was CRINGE x 100!!
- The h is so awkward and in every scene of hers I must've said 'Stupid woman' 'idiot woman' 'eww...wtf' like twenty times already and I've only read eight chapters!!
- The h is too annoying to tolerate her for the rest of the book, so its a dnf for me.
Unrequited love turned love of their lives. A great action romance, that has the angst and “scenes which make this an entertaining read. If you like background story reading Pipers story (Piper is Sam’s old roommate) might give some background but can’t confirm myself having not read this installment.
I love this book. It is full of wonderful characters and relationships and excitement. I love the way the author writes. It draws me in and keeps me reading. The HEA is always a must. This is a series I will read and reread.
DNF. Feels like I hopped into the middle of the story from the first chapter...definitely think this is some connected series or something. Otherwise the author is terrible at setting up a story and character relationships.
I liked it! It has great potential for this series. I already knew I enjoyed the author's style. Both characters and storyline were easy to like. I'm going to read book 2.
