From dark to light.

Crystal has lived in darkness for all her 237 years, training for the coming war that will take back the world from humankind. Though half-demon, she has no power she knows of, and is generally looked down upon as inept. Rather embarrassing, since she is supposed to be the one who will end the war. When she is sent out, for the first time, to track down a pair of humans who hunt her kind, she finds something she never expected.

While the story starts off with some rather dark and steamy scenes, the mood brightens and the pace picks up nicely as it moves along, following the internal development of the main character. Some minor typos and bland clichés barely detract from this tale as it keeps one turning the pages.

The end leaves one desperately clawing for air, out of the blue, wondering what happened to the cliff one was supposed to hang on to

Wow!!!!

This book was friggin amazing. So good. I was so scared to keep going knowing what was going to happen in the end, but I just loved this story.

What makes this book so different from other paranormal reads is that Crystal is a half demon who's spent that last 237 years living with demons of all kinds to hone her powers as the Chosen one. But Crystal has not reached her full potential and people are doubtful that she will and seem to want her dead. She at first comes off as cruel and evil, but once she's thrown into the human world, you see her inner struggle with everything she's grown up to know and seeing things for herself. I loved the way Soosie was able to portray Crystal's POV, the way she naturally hated humans, but once being around them for a time started to draw her own conclusions and thoughts on humans. This I felt is a major turning point for the main character. She is one I grew to really love and have high hopes for. I think there's room for her to turn around and make the right choices that will ultimately decide her fate.

The brother/sister hunters were ok. I did not like Eve, although I understand her hesitation to trust others. They became very great complex characters. We get some great background information on them and understand how they became hunters and what hunters are. The action involving them was cool. Although I hate that they seemed just hypocritical of demons and Vamps as demons are to humans. But hopefully some of that will be touched on in the second book.

There were so many great things about this book. The prophecy(because who doesn't love a mysterious prophecy) drives the story with Crystal being the chosen one, but not knowing what that role clearly entails. The hunters makes the story even more interesting by throwing a monkey wrench in things and twisting things up. Anything involving them had me biting my nails. I also liked the use of magic, like charms, demon repelling symbols, and demon traps. Micah was also a character I ended up loving very much, probably because his relationship with Crystal was so great. Yes this book ends on an epic cliffhanger that made me sad to see the end.

I definitely recommend this book. It was really good and reads really quickly. If you love demons, vampires, and werewolves, then this book will not disappoint. The romance and steam factor are also a nice bonus. You don't want to miss this and the sequel is going to be even better.

***I received a free copy/an exclusive ARc of this book in exchange for my unbiased review. The opinions stated are solely my own and no one else’s. ***
Chosen: Humanity by Soosie E. Nova is a paranormal book about a half demon half angel named Crystal. She has been raised by the demons all of her life and has been trained to become the Chosen one who will lead them in the battle to destroy the humans. She has been taught that the humans came and drove them into the darkness and that they, the demons, are going to fight and take back what was taken from them. The thing is is that Crystal isn’t measuring up to be what they had hoped that she would be by this point. On Earth there are two humans who have risen to the challenge of bringing the war to the demons and they are doing a good job of it, too. So since Crystal is failing to rise to what the demons want from her a different tactic is employed: Send Crystal to lure the humans into a trap so that they can be killed.
When I first read the synopsis for this book I was immediately drawn in and wanted to see where things going to go with this book and I must say that I was not disappointed. There are other mixed breed demons like Crystal and the back story concerning the war is really intriguing and interesting. For me overall this story is really well written. It gets your attention and keeps you turning page after page wanting to know more about what is going on. There are a few spelling errors here and there in the story but overall they are not enough to really detract from the story itself.
So, if you are looking for a paranormal story that will do a flip on the story we all have been raised on then this is the book for you. In essence the creation story but with a twist on it taking you from the norm that you know and are familiar with. This is a book that I will definitely be recommending to anyone who is a fan of paranormal and romance. Be warned there are sex scenes in this book so be prepared for that.

"Chosen" is an intriguing twist on the "chosen one" storyline in fantasy and paranormal romance. Crystal is the chosen one--for the other side. She's supposed to help demons get earth back from humans, who've stolen it. Only she's not very good at being a chosen one, and when she gets sent to the human world on a secret mission, she has to reconsider her allegiance...

I really liked the concept of inverting the "chosen one" myth, and having Crystal struggle both with her inability to be the chosen one--she's not nearly as powerful as she was expected to be--and her torn loyalties between the demons who raised her but who treat her as a means to an end, and the humans who welcome her but would kill her if they knew who she really was. My main problem with the book was that I thought the theme deserved a more epic treatment. "Chosen" is a fast, fun read, with plenty of action and steamy romance, but I rather wished it had been developed at greater length. This is only the first part of a series--warning, it ends on a cliffhanger, which I personally enjoy but some readers seem to think is some kind of grave offense, mysteriously enough--so there's lots of promise here for further development. Overall, a fun read and an unusual twist on a popular genre.
