When fate brings NFL superstar Maurice Goings back into her life, Kenya must decide whether or not she is willing to give the man who broke her heart another chance. Original.
Cheris Hodges was bitten by the writing bug at an early age and always knew she wanted to be a writer. She is a 1999 graduate of Johnson C. Smith University and a freelance writer in Charlotte, North Carolina. A native of Bennettsville, South Carolina, Cheris loves hearing from her readers.
I pray this is a fictional story. Because if Kenya is based off a real woman, I need a drink. Kenya's character is pathetic, weak, stupid and an embarrassment to women. The way she loved Maurice is unbelievable. Seriously, after ten years you haven't found one meaningful relationship? Tragic. She deserved to be bitter and lonely.
Then when she rekindles the relationship with Maurice. She throws her family and friend to the curve to be with him. Sad.
The icing on the cake. The only reason Maurice is with Kenya is because he got left at the altar. If Lauryn, would not have kicked him to the curve she would be Mrs. Goings. It's not like he had an epiphany in the ten years they were apart and realized Kenya was the one for him. No he was set to marry Lauryn even with her faults. I just love how during those ten years Maurice never had any contact with Kenya. But when he was embarrassed and broken only then did he realize she was the one.
I do not like stories that paint women as brainless, low self-esteem idiots. In which they are unable to move beyond a pass a hurt and have a healthy relationship with someone else. Give me a break.
As soon as I read the sample on my Kindle, I knew I would be hate reading this.
I really tried to give Kenya some grace, but she was not good. She seemed to have never recovered from Maurice cheating on her. It doesn't seem like she even tried. So why all the back and forth when she's finally with him again? And then that thing with James, Maurice's brother. That was unnecessary.
Maurice. Ugh. He apologized many times but I don't think he EVER realized how deeply he hurt her. He said he cheated because he listened to other people when they said he should be taking advantage of the women throwing him attention. HOWEVER, he stayed with Lauryn, the woman he cheated on Kenya with, for NINE YEARS. He was about to marry her until SHE left HIM at the alter. He did say he cheated on her but he still STAYED WITH HER FOR NINE YEARS!!
They didn't even deserve each other. Maurice needed to be single and Kenya needed to date almost anyone else. The only man off limits to her would have been James.
Maurice and Kenya had been together since high school and broke up in college. Almost ten years later they see each other again and try to rekindle their relationship. There's a lot if chemistry but not a lot of trust. If they want it to work they will have to learn to trust their feelings and each other.
The book could've been at least 50 - 100 pages shorter. The constant I hate you, no I love you just plain got on my nerves. It was like listening to a friend that you wannacurse out but you gotta support her because she's yourfriend. (thats how real I thought it was).
Maurice Goings is a NFL Champion, whose money and fame attracts gold-diggers and groupies. Lauryn is the worst of the worst and a habitual liar! She causes so much trouble in spite of the shocking secret she is hiding.
This story was somewhat interesting except for the constant back and forth of Kenya's, "I hate him, I love him, I trust him, I can't trust him." Imagine about 100 pages of that. Enough already! She should have run far, far away from Maurice and stayed away!!!!
In Matters of the Heart...Can One Ever Truly Forgive & Forget?
“Let's Get It On is the first novel I've read by Ms. Cheris Hodges, and I'll admit that I was immediately CAUGHT UP in the drama of this story. Maurice Goings is easily lured into ALL the hype of being the SUPERSTAR sports jock on campus and allows his so-called friends and the hot groupie chicks to come between him and his girlfriend Kenya Taylor. One groupie chick in particular, Lauryn Michaels, turns his head and his heart, so that he foolishly breaks off his relationship with Kenya thinking that the lust he feels for Lauryn is actually love. Unable to deal with seeing Maurice and Lauryn together, Kenya leaves her hopes and dreams behind in order to start over at another college. Kenya runs away from the heartache and pain that Maurice has inflicted on her, but she's still unable to stop loving him. When fate puts them at the same resort in the Bahamas, Maurice is determined to prove he's changed and will NEVER hurt Kenya, again. Although, Kenya finally gives into the desires of her heart , and decides to FORGIVE Maurice, she still can't FORGET his involvement with Lauryn. She is CONSTANTLY waiting for Maurice to slip up, if not with Lauyrn, possibly with some other groupie chick that might turn his head and his heart, once AGAIN. Will Kenya EVER be able let go of the past and put her COMPLETE trust and faith in Maurice, so they can REBUILD their shattered dreams?!! “Let's Get It On is an entertaining novel with an interesting cast of characters, and it is definitely full of many SHOCKING and SURPRISING twists and turns throughout. Unfortunately, at times I found the storyline a little slow, due to the repetitive dialogue, and the long time it takes to come to the much anticipated climax. Having said that, I still found this romance to be a worthwhile read full of some intense, UNEXPECTED emotionally-charged moments.
Cheris Hodges is another literary genius. I was so caught up in this book that forgot other things I had to do. The story is well told with believable and developed characters. This read had me wrapped up in the characters emotions so much that I had to laugh, cry and feel anger along with them. I am a fan of Cheris Hodge’s work and she always gives us a compelling read. I am again in awe of the talent of some writers and this author does not disappoint.
Maurice and Kenya are characters that both have dominant personalities. Sometimes it takes an earth shattering event to make you go home again. They go through a roller coaster of emotions that make them come out stronger when the ride is over. They both have passionate personalities and the love scenes are off the chart. Please pick up this read and add it to your library ASAP! I highly recommend this read, it is definitely a 5 star read.
Okay where do I start.....That darn fiance of Maurice was a real piece of work. She was a gold digger on a whole other level, but that's okay because things worked out they way they were suppose to in the end. Kenya and Maurice are soulmates, but the road to reconciliation is not easy. I guess its hard to trust sometimes, when your hopes and dreams are shattered in a flash. Maurice was determined to right the wrong he had done in Kenya's life and in the end it all worked out for the best. Just goes to show anything worth having is worth fighting for. I loved this book!
I liked this book , this is the first book and the Goings series and it is packed full of drama. Kenya and Maurice are a couple who have the bad luck of Lauren Michaels come into their lives and destroy it. Because of her Kenya does not trust Maurice. I understand her not trusting but then it got to be too much I felt like she just walk away. They kept getting back together. Their are a lot of love scenes in this book but the terminology was a bit silly when describing the act of lovemaking. Overall this is a good story but too much drama for me.
I read this series backwards. So knowing that Kenya and Maurice end up together and happy made me more critical of this book. Kenya truly got on my nerves and Maurice is a spoiled brat. The story was a good one and like in all her other books, Hodges is a master when it comes to the crazy ex girlfriend. I just wish Kenya hadn't been such a witch and Maurice more mature. He truly acted like the spoiled selfish egotist everyone in the book said he was.
I really want to give it a 2.5 stars, but it's not an option. The book was an easy read, BUT it old & tiring with Kenya & the back & forth....also I didn't like the fact she basically had no life for 9 years. All in all it was an easy read & the ending was cool.
I loved it! The story never got boring. Loved every character except the ex, and the interactions between the characters made for a great story! I definitely recommend this!
NFL SUPERSTAR MAURICE GOINGS HAS TO CONVINCE HIS COLLEGE SWEETHEART, HE WILL NEVER BREAK HER HEART AGAIN. KENYA HAS TO BE CONVINCE TO TRUST HER HEART AGAIN!!!
