"A perfectly dark thrill ride of breathtaking action and scorching hot romance" --Skye Warren, New York Times bestselling author

"Yulia," he whispers, staring down at me, and I know he feels it too, this pull, this visceral connection between us. He may have all the power, but in this moment, he's as vulnerable as I am, caught in the grip of the same madness.

Forced to join a secret intelligence agency at a young age, Russian interpreter/spy Yulia Tzakova is no stranger to dangerous men. But she's never known one as ruthless and compelling as Lucas Kent. The hard-edged mercenary frightens her, yet she's drawn to him--to a man she has no choice but to betray.

Second-in-command to a powerful arms dealer, Lucas Kent has never met a woman he's wanted as much as Yulia. Obsessed with the beautiful blonde, he'll stop at nothing to capture her and make her pay for her betrayal.

From the icy streets of Moscow to the steamy jungles of Colombia, their dark, all-consuming passion will either crush them or set them free.

Dark romance audiobook lovers, have I got a deal for you! Anna Zaires' entire Capture Me trilogy for just 1 Audible credit! That's nearly 21 hours of a dark romance, delectable listen!

Book 1 Review:

4 "Traitor or Victim?" Stars for the story and narration.

If you enjoyed the Twist Me Trilogy by Anna Zaires and Dima Zales then you will want to continue the dangerous, adventure filled world in Capture Me. Although Capture Me is a spin-off of the Twist Me Trilogy, the Capture Me trilogy could still be read or listened to as a standalone as it primarily features a different couple. For those of you who did experience the first trilogy, however, you will be happy to know that you still continue to see glimpses of how Julian and Nora are adapting to their new life together.

Carrying on from the plot commenced in the Twist Me Series, Capture Me features one of Julian's primary guards, Lucas, and the Russian interpreter, Yulia, who appears to have betrayed Julian's team. Giving us a flashback to the night when they first meet, and then quickly segueing into the aftermath of the plane crash which happens as a direct result of what Lucas and Julian believe is intelligence that Yulia shared about their whereabouts, Yulia's days appear limited until Julian through Lucas are healthy enough to come and seek their retribution from her.

However, when the day comes that he has her in his possession again, Lucas is conflicted by the passion that he still feels for Yulia after their unforgettable one night together. Being a professional, he knows what he must do, but as he tears more information from Yulia through his interrogation of her, the lines between right and wrong begin to blur.

Will Lucas stay loyal to Julian? Is Yulia's apparent passion for Lucas real or merely a keen survival mechanism of a well trained operative?

Shirl Rae and Roberto Scarlato return as narrators and do a great job with most aspects of this narration. Each can be counted on to deliver easy to listen narration passages, making it seamless for the listener to know who is speaking. Additionally the listener can feel the emotion and the mood of the scene by the narrators' tone. Perhaps my only observation on the narration is that as Yulia is Russian, I would have expected her to have a Russian accent, but the narration does not reflect this. Nonetheless, every other aspect of the narration was flawless, making this a story that can easily be enjoyed in audio format.

I enjoyed Capture Me as it still had that great hot, physical tension that I enjoyed so much in Twist Me. The passion between the two main characters is raw and primal. However, I do feel that it is important to note that this romance is definitely more mainstream and less dark or edgy than Twist Me. I would term this a "gray" romance, rather than a dark one, as there still are some edgier aspects associated with being captured but nowhere near the more dubious consent scenes that appear in the Twist Me Series.

Having started this journey, now I can't wait to continue the wild ride in Bind Me!

Book 3: Claim Me

4.5 "True Love or Obsession?" Stars for the story and narration!

What a fitting conclusion to another captivating, captor romance! As truths are finally revealed hard decisions must be made. Can a relationship between a dominant captor ever evolve to a true HEA? Or is the Dom/Sub role forever tied to obsession without more?

Book 3 picks up where book 2 leaves off. Yulia has run away fearing for the life of her brother. To protect him she decides to come clean to her former handlers. However, her reunion is anything but happy when she discovers several secrets they have been withholding from her.

Lucas meanwhile can't let Yulia go and resolves to find her. When he does, he finally discovers the truth. But will he come to her and her brother's aid? Moreover, can Lucas keep Yulia safe from the one man who can destroy them both and who will never forget Yulia's betrayal (his boss, Julian)?

Even if he can capture her again physically, will Yulia ever decide to stay willingly? Is she just Lucas' obsession or more? Is a man who has been through what Lucas has been through even capable of more?

From the heat level to the plot development, Claim Me definitely had me panting from start to end. What a way to end it and for those fans of the Twist Me Series there is even a great Nora and Julian Epilogue at the end!

The narration was fab as always with remarkable consistency between characters voices both from the Twist Me Series and Capture Me Series. Shirl Rae and Robert Scarlatto really make you feel both the erotic energy and angst of this story making this a great series to experience in audio format.

All in all, the Capture Me Series is a must listen to romance for gray romance fans!

This story is a spin off of the Twist Me series. This dark tale is just my kinda story! it is a fast-paced thrill ride and I was captivated from the start. While you do not need to read the Twist Me series first, I would highly recommend it as those characters are in this story and it adds a greater depth of understanding to the overall storyline.

Simply Amazing!!!

This is a spin-off trilogy to Twist Me. I give this a 4.25, I enjoyed it, but not as much as The Twist Me Trilogy. (Monogomy, M/f, light bondage but vanilla otherwise, enemies to lovers, spice 4.5/5)

I liked the characters, especially Lucas as I got to know him in the Twist Me Trilogy. This trilogy was shorter and there was a lot of recapping overlapping events that took place in the Twist Me books, which is necessary for readers who haven't read the Twist Me books first, but super redundant for those of us that have. I probably would have loved this series if I hadn't read the Twist Me Trilogy first and then Capture Me immediately after forcing me to automatically compare.

The Capture Me Trilogy just didn't have as much storyline/journey, nor did it have as much heat as Twist Me. The dynamic of the protagonists are very similar, but the female protagonist in Capture Me lacked the same fire and backbone and given her harsh history and training she should have had more. In my opinion, this trilogy would have been so much better if she had of given even a little opposition or push back. She kept letting him talk to her and treat her like a "sex toy" without sticking up for herself and it wasn't because she was too afraid to do so. There could have been so much more push and pull with these characters that would have made it more exciting.

There was fairly frequent spicy scenes while the characters are actually together, but the scenes lacked originality- they were almost all the same scene.

***ABSOLUTE SPOILER***

I'm also not happy about the ending. I wanted to see them stay at the estate with her brother. I wanted them to explain to Julian and Nora (main characters in first book and owners of the Comumbian compound/estate) how she was forced into the spy organization to keep her brother safe and how she didn't know that the information she was giving was going to lead to the plane crash that killed so many of his men. I wanted to see them understand her situaltion and forgive her and then her form a relationship with Nora and the other women. The author could have even had her redeem herself by somehow saving their lives with an act or a piece of information. I wanted to see her brother, who was fitting in perfectly and forming relationships with the guards, stay and join Julian's men. I would have liked to see them all become one happy crime compound!

With this all being said- I still liked this trilogy and still recommend reading it.

Audiobook: I enjoyed the narration by both these narrators. They really brought this story to life for me. There are several different characters and their performance of them were very nice with the exception of one male character performed by Ms.Rae. I was completely immersed into this fascinating world created by Ms. Zaiares and voice by Ms. Rae and Mr. Scarlato.

Capture Me:

This was a fast ride into some dark territory. The heroine grew up with darkness, lives her life in darkness and has now become responsible for an event that is going to pull her even further into it. I enjoyed both the hero and heroine. More so than I did than those in the first series, Twist Me. The hero was completely consumed with having her and keeping her. He was jealous and possessive, There were a few moments were things were a bit dubious but I felt it was less so here than in TM.

Bind Me:

Things really heat up here when Lucas finally has possession of Yulia. This is where things tend to get a bit sketchy in regards to dubious consent. There are layers upon layers being revealed as the story moves forward even as it begins to build upon itself. I’m not sure I can even predict where this is going to go.

Claim Me:

Loved this conclusion to the series. It was so fast paced and action filled with plenty of steam. It kept me guessing from the beginning onwards. I wasn’t sure how this couple were ever going to find their happy ever after or even if they did what it was going to look like. I was very pleased with where and how the author took this story. The ending made all the tragedy getting to it worthwhile.

I went looking for something light and fun to read after some pretty heavy books. Russian spies, Ukrainian spies, crime lords, betrayal, romance...sign me up. Unfortunately, this ended up not working for me on several levels. I like dark action books with some romance - see Jessica Clare's Hit Man series, Kelley Armstrong's Nadia Stafford trilogy, or Tillie Cole's Hades Hangmen series - but I never connected with this one. I kept reading because I wanted to like it, but by the end wish I hadn't bothered to finish it.

I think I like this better than the Twist Me series, mainly because this one doesn't make me feel guilty for loving the arrogant hero, even though Julian Esguerra is still my favorite guilty-pleasure. I like the plot just fine, although to be honest I kinda prefer the dark tone that Twist Me has.

Not as dark as twist me trilogy

I really liked Lucas I liked Yullie too but not as much . Lucas is a second in command for a arms dealer he falls for a Russian spy who's causing trouble for his boss Julian. If you haven't read twist me trilogy I suggest you do . You meet Peter in this story I like his story also waiting on one more book for Peter's story.

*** Audio Book Version ***

This was another great trilogy by Anna Zaires. There is just something about this authors books that just suck me in. The narrators for this book were the same as the Twist Me series. Though I liked the narrators, I sort of wished there were two new narrators for these characters.

Read this book on vacation and boi it was good. Had me on the edge of my seat, well written scenes from MMC and FMC. Some small plot holes but nothing crazy that threw the story off. Absolutely loved the twists and turns that led to the end of their love story. Could be triggering for history of abuse but definitely good read and smutty

So, I read this back in 2020. And out of boredom decided to reread it recently. And tbh I wasn't missing much. 😆

If I want three books of endless mentions about the "hero" Lucas having an erection and constantly thinking about FUCKING the heroine Yulia then I would be satisfied, no?

This book was quite literally all sex. And hey, I usually find nothing wrong with that. But when the sex scenes are so frequent and suffer for it in terms of quality scenes then...yeah. Big problem.

Not to mention the first person narrative. Not my favorite.

Lucas wasn't in any way interesting to me. He just wasn't. And his obsession and possessiveness with Yulia wasn't appealing the way it should have been. He was just obsessed with fucking her. Not her as a person. It's literally all he thought about day and night. One chapter after the next. Even after he had her in his house he acts as if he waited "long enough" to get what he wants from her (sex) despite her having only been in his custody for less than 12 hours after transferring her from the Russian prison. So, we go from him just trying to get her clean and fed because she was filthy and underweight when she arrives to hours later him after becoming frustrated by her lack of answers to acting as if he's been waiting two months to finally get the sex he wants from her. What a dumbass.

The character Yulia wasn't half bad tbh. Even had a solid back story for being a spy with good motives etc. But despite it all she still didn't feel like this capable well trained young adult that the author tried to convince me of. She had a lot of growing up to do mentally and emotionally because of losing her parents at age ten and making a deal to join a spy agency to get her younger brother adopted along with her spy training and sexual assault by her trainer. To me, she wasn't some well trained and smooth talking liar. Regardless of how the author tried to persuade me to believe it.

She was just another young woman ripe for the picking for an older mature (questionable tbh) man to step into her life and take control. To offer her his own fucked up version of affection via attending to his own sexual needs and obsession with her.

Yes, in the end she supposedly fell in love with him but OH BOY was that a joke. Perhaps she enjoyed having sex with him and the safety he eventually began to feel like considering the life she led until that point but she never trusted him. And she hardly ever learned enough to fall in love with him until AFTER she admitted said love. So, nah. Didn't buy it.

Overall the plot was interesting for the most part. I did like Yulia despite everything. Lucas wasn't very interesting though.

*Disclaimer:

I will be the first to admit I am not really a fan of AZ. Their books have been hit and miss for me. I also couldn't finish the first book of the first series with Julian and Nora because it was just atrociously stupid IMHO. So, their involvement in this series didn't do it any favors for me.

But I am a lover of dark romances especially the captive trope. So, of course I've read many over the years and know what works and what doesn't in stories but also what I enjoy as a personal preference. This one however just didn't provide me with the type of depth or emotional connection I wanted as a reader but also between the characters either. That kind of transition has to have a vehicle to get there and this book didn't provide it.

SPOILERS AHEAD.

This is going to be a tough review for me to write. I loved the interaction between Lucas and Yulia, just LOVED it. They are two people wounded by everything that surrounds them. They live in a world that we can only imagine because it is filled with violence and fear. And I loved reading their story.

SPOILER ALERT

BUT, there are a couple of things that just turned me away from this book. First, I don't believe Julian would have ever let Lucas keep Yulia in his compound. This woman had been the reason his plane was shot down, and she still posed a threat because of her connection with his enemies in the Ukraine. Lucas saved his life? Yep, but even I wouldn't have allowed her to stay, so I know someone who doesn't hesitate to kill his enemies is going to prevent her from being that close to him and his wife. The favor he owed to Lucas I could believe, but it was a payback for an action from Lucas (singular) to Julian (singular). Yulia, because Julian hates her and sees her as an enemy, would have transcended any favor in existence.

But the second thing is the one that turned me completely off. Nora, Julian's wife. She's a liar, a manipulator, and threatened Yulia's life to protect her friend. OK, fine. Maybe I can swallow that. But keep in mind, I just read the entire Twist Me Trilogy where poor sweet little Nora is kidnapped and held by Julian and falls in love with him. She learned self defense, learns how to fire a gun and defends her family during an attack, and then what??? Her maid is in love with Lucas, screws up, helps Yulia escape, and Nora threatens YULIA to force Yulia to LIE FOR HER and to tell Nora's husband that it was NORA's idea? I get that she might have wanted to save Rosa's life, they were friends. But Julian will already do nearly anything she asks, so why become the classic liar? I was done right then. I didn't read the epilogue that was about Julian and Nora because frankly, writing her like that made her worse than Julian ever could be. Julian is honest about what he is, just like Lucas is. They don't lie, they don't pretend they are something else - they are killers, they are weapon's dealers, they are BAD men - so now all of a sudden, Julian who is honest about who and what he is, is married to a manipulating liar (and one that has been written of as an innocent through 4 books-counting the first of this trilogy). That really did ruin the rest of the trilogy for me. As hot as Yulia and Lucas were together, that's all I could think about towards the end of the book is how incredibly disappointed I was in Nora.

The book is well written, just like Twist Me. There's very little to complain about technically. I think the plot should have been tightened up a bit so that the unbelieveable parts were made more serviceable to the book, but over all it was well written, and up until a certain point, I was really, really enjoying it. All characters in a book have to be consistent in order for the book to resound well with me. In this case, the inconsistencies killed it.

DNF.

This series was a Kindle deal, so I snatched it up after reading the blurb. International spies? Cutting betrayals? "Dark thrills?" Yes, please! Sign me up. It was only after I bought it and started reading that I realized that this series is a continuation of another series with a premise that, for me, is a big NOPE.

Still, because, I paid for it, I gritted my teeth and tried to enjoy this one for what it is. I made it through the first and halfway through the second before I just could not stand it anymore.

Liked:
The writing was zippy enough for a thriller.
Early descriptions of Lucas were suitably hot.

Hated:
Insta-connection. The sex was better than any other sex before it because...them's the rules, I guess.
Underpowered heroine. When I'm going in for a sexy spy thriller, I want competence porn. Yulia's superpower is suffering prettily.

Might makes right. It's a throwaway line, but the idea that because Lucas and his team lack morals they are able to make the world safer from terrorists is just such load of bullshit.

Vanilla sex. For a book trying very, very hard to be kinkthere's really nothing here that's very kinky at all. Sometimes the heroine was handcuffed? If you're going to be problematic at least don't bland about it.

Problematic. That said, this shit is problematic. Yulia acknowledges that the only thing that separates what Lucas is doing to her from rape is her wanting it in spite of herself. And Lucas wants to rape her for revenge and gets mad at himself for not being able to do it but then wants to kill the man who did rape her like he has some moral high ground? Just...yuck.

I hate-read this one for as long as I could stand and then gave up.

4.7 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Anna Zaires' works are generally of very high quality; she excels in character development and crafting captivating action scenes that keep readers hooked. Her ability to handle sensitive subjects is also remarkable. However, this series is not among my favorites—Tormentor Mine and the series with Yan remain my top picks.

Luca Kent, the main character is an alpha male—dark, brutish, and violent. He treats Yulia more like an object or a pet, which can be unsettling. I found some passages particularly difficult to read, as Luca seemed to force Yulia into intimate relations . This dynamic was sometimes a barrier to fully immersing myself in the story.

On the other hand, the relationship between Luca and Yulia evolves significantly in the later volumes. By the third book, I felt like I was discovering a new Luca. Although he retains his harsh and cold demeanor, he softens towards Yulia and behaves more like a true partner.
Their relationship becomes more balanced, and Luca starts to treat Yulia with greater respect and consideration.

Yulia, who becomes a spy to protect her brother, is a heroine with truly admirable qualities: she is selfless, brave, and resourceful. However, despite understanding the dangerous situation she is in and the mistakes she has made. Her temperament is not as fiery as one might hope. I felt that at several points, she could have taken a firmer stand against Luca, and I would have liked to see this dynamic develop further.

Despite the heavy themes and Luca’s initially perplexing behavior, the series is filled with twists and a genuine chemistry between the characters. It’s not a light read, but if you’re looking for an intense and passionate love story, I highly recommend this series.

So, I liked this enough to give it 3 stars, but was not wowed like I was after reading the Twist Me trilogy that is related to this one. (I recommend you start with that one -- this story will make more sense.) This book is still action packed and has plenty of international intrigue (even a few spies), if you like that kind of thing. You also get to know Lucas, who you are introduced to in the first trilogy, and who is an interesting and hot character. This trilogy reminds me of the old Robert Ludlum suspense thrillers, with WAY more interesting sex. So, it's an enjoyable read. I liked Yulia's character, or at least I could understand how she ended up where she was. I thought Lucas' character was either less believable or just less acceptable to me -- not sure which. His sociopathic tendencies didn't quite sync well with his caregiver side, at least not to me. I think the author was trying to make the case that he was so obsessed and lust addled that his brutal side was muted -- but it did not ring true in this case (although it worked in Twist with Julien somehow). And the fact that he was an unapologetic mass murderer and torturer, who was raised with a silver spoon -- he lacked any kind of background that could possibly explain (not excuse) his behavior and lust for violence. No BDSM in this book, just a little anal, so pro or con depending on what you are into.

I absolutely loved this trilogy. The obsessive, protective hero and the smart but broken heroine had a fiery chemistry and connection. Lucas and Yulia have a one night stand that turns into much, much more once the hero learns the heroine has used him to get info which helped her organization attempt to kill his boss and by connection him and 45 other soldiers. What ensues is an intense hunt for the heroine, and once she's captured Lucas finds that his obsession for Yulia overpowers his anger and need to obtain revenge for her betrayal. Slowly he breaks her down and she falls in love with her captor. The only person she loves more is her little brother, so she escapes to save him and the hero must hunt her down a 2nd time. These books each pick up exactly where the previous book left off and they are short so you can read all of them quickly. Be warned, they may melt your kindle as the steam factor is HIGH. Solid 5 stars, what an entertaining, fast paced trilogy with the perfect mix of relationship angst, sex, plot and action. Highly recommend and it's been quite a while since I read Julian and Nora's first 2 books, but I definitely liked Lucas and Yulia's story better. It's hotter and less gruesome. But now I am tempted to go back and read J&N's 3rd book. And I hope one day, Rosa's story is written, it's hinted that the financier in Chicago would be her hero.

A Pretty gripping series

I didn’t think we could ever love a couple as much as Julian and Nora but Lucas and Yulia made you fall in love in a slightly different manner so you were able to equally spread the love lol!
This story twisted and turned, was chock full of suspense and intrigue (not my norm at all actually now that I think about it!) this was a bit of a spy series and accessed a different side of my brain apparently as I was drawn in and anxious even at times.
****A bit of a spoiler ahead but it’s general**

The only real downfall for me was just how badly Lucas treated Yulia and how easily she either forgave him or excused his behavior. THAT left a bad taste in my mouth but in the end it worked out for an HEA but what a HARD earned one for Yulia!!
The narrators felt better this book. Shirl Rae either didn’t sound as old or I’m just used to her now after the twist me trilogy. Roberto Scarlato was a bit in the dramatic side but still managed to portray a myriad of character voices so over all they ROCKED it again just like in Twist Me series and now I can’t wait for Peters series! (I’d actually started his prior to Lucas not realizing I really DID need to know what happened there. (I wasn’t originally looking forward to Lucas/Yulia so skipped it but so glad I got drawn back in)!

I read this series completely out of order, with this book being last. While I enjoyed it, it was my least favorite. Definitely less of a Lucas fan as an anti-hero than Peter and Julian. I did like the contrast between the heroines. Where Nora and Sadie are great heroines, coming from more wholesome backgrounds, Yulia has had a hard life and had to make tough choices. She holds her own as a heroine, sacrificing everything for family only to lose it all. She’s an anti-heroine who makes a huge mistake and gains enemies that will not forgive and results in her capture. Her capturer becomes her...everything? He has control everything she does and it’s riddled with anger, loss, hope, desolation and then love. Yulia never gives up on her family. Lucas redeems himself as the story comes to a close.

Welllll--it got better, I'll say that for it. Within five pages they were having sex and there were typos!!!! I almost put if down not to return, but it was readable enough after that. I did read all three books (can they be called books where they're only 160 pages or so? I think calling them books might be a stretch) at one sitting, so they kept my interest.

I had to make a shelf for non-consensual sex, of which there was plenty. The relationship between Yulia and Lucas was complicated and that was well written enough. They both had good backstories that added.

There were plenty of plot devices that were a stretch though. I found myself rolling my eyes a few times.

As an aside, I have not read the first of the trilogy. Not sure if that hampered my enjoyment or not.

Another winning trilogy

I rated the individual books separately on ŷ in addition to this overall rating since I read the all-in-one trilogy.
I liked this trilogy more than the Twist Me series. I found Lucas, although not as dark and dangerous, to be MUCH more likeable. I had trouble getting past Julian's behavior in the first trilogy.
This book had plenty to like- suspense, drama, misunderstandings, international intrigue, interesting back stories for the characters, surprises, and more. I did fond myself a little bored in a couple of places, but in others I couldn't wait to finish my real life tasks so I could get back to reading more about Lucas and Yulia.
Overall, another good trilogy from this author. I'll be back to read Peter's story!

Anna Zaire's books always capture by attention and this trilogy wasn't any different. If you remember Lucas Kent is one of Julian's guards (from Twist me) and this is his story with a bombshell of a Russian agent Yulia Tzakova. She is a spy who is trying to take down Julian. Though she's forced work with with her agency, she has to provide them inside Intel and that obviously goes wrong because Lucas gets harmed along the way. Yulia did not have an easy life and therefore had to make some though choices. Initially she views Lucas aa just her captor but as she begins to see his real side, she fears that he just might become her everything. Overall, I loved every minute of this trilogy. I am totally obsessed with this world that Anna has constructed. Every book is hot, steamy, full of action, sexual tension, and twists upon twists being revealed which kept me entertained throughout. The story was unpredictable and the ending was satisfying. I devoured the series because it was so hard to put down!

Great series

Oh wow, what a fascinating story, the characters interaction and their story was fantastic. Arms dealers, Russian mafia, spies, so much going on. Plenty of twists and turns, intrigue, action, and romance, add in a strong woman who will go to any lengths to protect her family, a strong alpha male, conflict and some outside interests it makes for one great read you won't want to miss. Warning! This book contains plenty of hot sex tinged with BDSM, a dark and disturbing romance.

Wow what a wild ride!

So after reading the twist me series and meeting Lucas i knew I had to read this series. I fell in love with Lucas and admire just how much he resembles julian. This love story is dangerous, untrustworthy, possessive and captivating! Must read this series and it includes favorite characters from twist me along with lucas point of view from twist me scene. A scene at the end of the birth of Nora and julians baby is beautiful.. Please Anna continue these characters! There are so many story lines for these two couples

After reading Twist Me, I had to read another book by Anna Zaires. Capture Me was right what I expected. Another great dark romance with a lot of smut and a good plot.

Capture me was a great read, at least as good as Twist me. Lucas and Yulia’s story was great, their romance was a lot more vanilla than the romance in Twist Me and so was the spice. But I didn’t mind, I thought it fitted with the characters in this book.

With that said, I still liked it and I think I will still read Tormentor Mine, another Twist Me spin-off series.
