Visitors are rare at widower Michael Moreno's Rodeo, Montana, ranch. When Samantha Read and her two sons turn up, seeking shelter in a snowstorm, his kids are ecstatic. Michael is less enthusiastic. Sammy's sophisticated city vibe seems out of place in his country home. But even he can't deny that the bubbly beauty lights up the whole house.
Though Sammy doesn't know much about ranching, she recognizes an aching heart when she sees one. Michael and his kids could use some cheer, and she's determined to make the most of their time together. But as the heat between Sammy and Michael threatens to melt the snow, Sammy wonders if Michael's heart could be thawing, as well.
This just didn't hold my attention. I found the heroine annoying for inviting herself to impose on the hero, not once, but twice, and basically railroading him to let her and her two boys stay at his house after the need for shelter had passed. And the hero was too grumpy and gloomy for my tastes. Plus, the gangsters just seemed out of place and they appeared out of nowhere.
A heartwarming, sweet, cheerful tale that made me smile from ear to ear and wish we all could have a Christmas several times in a year. The story is filled with the kind of joy and magic we normally only attach to the December holiday time, yet the snow storm created the perfect surrounding for these two families to celebrate life, love, friends, and family. Michael Moreno might come off as a bit grouchy and unwelcoming, but as the story unfolds his kind, caring heart is evident. His desire to do anything for his kids is clear, he is fair, loyal, hard working man with a humble mind and loving heart. I absolutely adored him with the children, all and any child got his attention, his guidance, and his protection. Samantha Read has learned the hard way that life isn't fair. But she is determined to make a better foundation in life for her own children than she and her brother had. She loves to sing disco, she is always smiling, comes up with the coolest ideas for the kids to entertain themselves with, and is always ready to play and laugh with them. Just the perfect mom figure you can imagine. I enjoyed the positive vibe the story had, despite the broken hearts of both Michael and Sammy. An accident brought these two families together, and eventually, the survival instinct turned into caring, before even deeper feelings took root. Michael and Sammy truly were a match made in heaven. They were a great team when it came to taking care of the extended family, their opposite characters complemented each other just right, like two pieces of a puzzle fitting together so perfectly. It was a pleasure to witness their attraction for each other growing and their souls finding a second chance of getting stroked by the lightning of love. The story is filled with whimsical, enchanted moments and miraculous plot twists. There's nothing conventional about Sammy or her antics, yet there are only good intentions and everyone's best at her heart. For me, a big Christmas lover, this story read like a cheerful, marvelous winter fairytale filled with family values, adorable, gentle characters, and good tidings for all ~ Four Spoons
A blizzard of epic proportions strands single mother Samantha Read and her two sons and she barely manages to find her way to widower Michael Moreno's door. He's loathe to let her in, but the blizzard forces his hand and soon he finds himself losing both the silence of his house--even with two children with him--and his heart to the irrepressible Sammy and her insistence of bringing laughter and joy into the house and the lives of all four children.
In the course of living at the blizzard, Michael soon realizes that his grief over the death of his wife is being replaced with hope that he can continue to live, maybe even with a new love, something his two children might support.
But when he proposes to Sammy, she says no. How is he to know that two scary guys with guns might just make her change her mind, but will any of them live to find out?
Rodeo Rancher by Mary Sullivan is number two in Rodeo, Montana series. Michael Moreno lost his wife two years ago. He is raising his two children on his ranch in Montana. During a real bad snow storm someone knocks on his door. It is Samantha Read with her two small children. Her car broke down. No way to get out because of the storm they end up staying at the ranch. Power goes up. Sleep in living room by fireplace. Michael has not done anything fun since his wife died. Samantha is going to change that. She is a fun loving girl. A romance happens between them. A very good read in this series.
Well, I wasn't expecting that ending! Samantha is a delightfully perky character. Michael is a struggling widower. Both have adorable children. A snow storm brings Sammy and her boys to his door and after some bumps and unexpected turns they don't ever want to leave and Michael feels the same but is it too soon? Good mood lifting story. ~ Kim
A Reader's Opinion: "What happens when a single mom and her two boys get stranded in the middle of a Montana blizzard? Heartwarming fun and a happily-ever-after."
I have to admit that has much Harlequin I read, I never caught onto the Cowboy craze. It seems from being born in Oklahoma and raised in Texas. I still live in Texas and for me, cowboys are something that I have seen every day my whole life. It’s not I don’t like a good Wrangler butt or a buff rancher. I worship at the feet of King George (George Straight) but honestly, I’d rather have billionaire’s, royalty or the special agent/cop. That said, somewhere I missed the memo that Harlequin American Romance was changing to Western Romance.
So when Ms. Sullivan approached me to read her latest release I was intrigued. You see, it’s about a rancher in Montana and the woman that is finally able to make him smile and love again after the death of his wife. Sure, it’s a tried and true trope but what makes this one so special and good are their kids. Oh yes, Michael has 2 kids and so does Sammy. The kids in this book are crucial to the development of the romance and how much Michael is grieving. Ms. Sullivan does a great job of the slow burn of the romance. Michael is a big ole grumpy bear that has closed everyone off and Sammy is just the breath of fresh air that he and his kids need.
Sammy does come with some baggage, too. The ending surprised me. I honestly never saw that coming but it was nicely done. I also liked her relationship with her brother. Just wished I had read his book, too. Sammy is just a trip when it comes to the kids. I also liked how her and Michael’s parenting skills were the same but different. Loved how Sammy never questioned Michael’s but he was quick to always say something about hers. The meet-cute was hilarious, too. Ms. Sullivan painted a picture for me and I’m still smiling.
Overall, this book sold me on the “new line. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series. Alas, I have to wait until I think July.
I was lucky to win Rodeo Rancher on the Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ giveaways. This was my first book by Mary Sullivan and I loved it. Loved the characters and how the whole story just rolled off the pages. I could not put it down almost forgot to eat dinner LOL. If you are looking for a sweet romance and love cowboys this is a great choice.
Samantha "Sammy" Read, the heroine of Rodeo Rancher and sister of Travis Read (Rodeo Father) has a zest for life and a penchant for landing in trouble. After blowing the whistle on her crooked boss who swore retribution, Samantha and her sons left Las Vegas and are on their way to the home her brother bought for them in Montana. Sammy's showgirl looks may give people the wrong first impression but this whip-smart woman has a caring heart, a quirky sense of humor, and will do anything to keep her sons' safe and happy. When she sweeps into Michael's home in the middle of a blizzard, the poor man doesn't stand a chance.
Michael Moreno is a hard-working rancher struggling to move forward after the death of his beloved wife. He's a loving father whose children mean the world to him but the joy left his life - and consequently, his children's lives - when his wife died. Sammy is like a breath of spring air, bringing light and laughter to a colorless existence. Sullivan does an outstanding job of showing the push and pull of a man frozen in grief and a woman hesitant to hand her heart over after having it broken then spices it up with four realistically crafted, steal-your-heart children who bring their own issues to the table. Sammy breathes life, hope, and fun into the hearts of Michael and his children but he returns the favor by by bringing love and stability to Sammy and her sons and helping them heal the hurts of the past. I cheered for this couple and this family every step of the way. These are people who deserve love and happiness. I appreciate the gradual hand Sullivan took with their relationship. It's realistic, with steps forward and back, and, just like Sammy, left me singing a happy tune at the end.
I think readers will have a clearer understanding of events and richer appreciation for this story if they read Rodeo Father first.
