2024 Update
My original comments still stand but this time around, Sam was more insufferable. I enjoyed the story less and found her highly annoying. I’m rounding down this time.

2017 Review
Homicide Lieutenant Samantha (Sam) Holland and her partner Freddie Cruz are called to a scene where a body was found on the banks of the Anacostia River. As they begin their investigation, agents suddenly show up, surround Sam and whisk her away without explanation. A serious and credible threat was received against the Vice President's family and that means more than just Sam and son, Scotty.

This was a solidly interesting case that went in some strange directions. I liked that the resolution came about through dogged police procedurals involving the entire team. It was engaging and allowed me to follow the case and make my own deductions that turned out to be on target. That works for me in a mystery.

My biggest issue continues to be with Sam operating without a net when she's the Second Lady. I just can't suspend reality enough to swallow her not having protection. Here I felt she was particularly stubborn and unreasonable and it threw me out of the story. It's the reason why I dropped a half star.

I opted to listen this time and am glad I did. Eva Kaminsky normally is a voice I enjoy and that held true here. She does a great job with character distinctions, especially Sam and Freddie who she just nails. I may never go back to reading the series as I really enjoyed her performance and the story despite my issues with Sam. And, the bonus story at the end was an unexpected delight and so, so necessary. You'll have to read/listen to it yourself to understand what I'm talking about. 3.5 stars

OMG

I’m truly and unequivocal ADDICTED to this series.

Wow, this series is AMAZING!!
Fatal Threat started with a BANG and continued in that sense until the very end. There was no breather for Sam or me.

It became obvious right away that someone was threatening Sam’s family, the title of the book as well as the situation that the reader got plunged into made that patently clear. Because of the near explosive tension I was immediately hooked and deeply invested. During most of the book I was sitting on the edge of my seat. I couldn’t read fast enough for my taste and the step for step investigation was trying my patience at times, even though I wouldn’t have changed it if I could. It was that fascinating and enthralling.

I was truly impressed by how the case was handled. It was like a puzzle being solved piece by piece it was quite masterfully done.

As always what stood out the most for me was the fascinating relationships that Sam had with her colleagues, her husband, her son, her family and friends. Sam is such an unique and incredibly likable character. Her sarcastic and tenacious personality clicked with me from the very first time I met her. Honestly, she is one of the BEST characters I’ve read about in a long time. EVERYTHING about her speaks to me and I would have loved to grow up to be her or at least call her my BBF. 😀

Sam and Nick’s relationship was not perfect, far from it, but it worked for them in every way that counted. I adored how they trusted, supported, and relied on each other. And the few squabbles they had just made the couple so much more authentic and real. They made it work and compromised when needed a real dream team!! I think I could rave about them for hours.

And let’s not forget the supporting cast. I LOVED, LOVED her partner Freddy. Sam and Freddy together had me cracking up!!!

I haven’t used a quote in a long time, but their back and forth was just too good to be true.

“YOU’RE NEVER DRIVING my car again. Ever.
“That was totally awesome! I forgot how much fun it is to drive a stick.
“I assume you’ll be paying for the new transmission I’ll need to acquire since you’ve ruined mine.
Sam rolled her eyes at him. “Don’t be so dramatic. I didn’t ruin anything. I demonstrated your baby’s full potential.
“I told you she’s delicate, and you worked her over. I’ll never forgive you for this.
“Yes, you will. You love me.
“Not right now I don’t.
“Does that mean I’m not your best-man woman anymore? Sam asked hopefully.
“I don’t hate you that much.
ಹ.

The ending of Fatal Threat but especially the possible repercussions left me STUNNED and gobsmacked. The POSSIBILITIES!!!!

I wish I knew what Marie Force has planned having to wait until 2018 is CRUEL and an unnecessary punishment. She needs to write faster PRONTO!!!!

For me, the best in the series to date. The twists, turns and that feeling of never quite being sure which direction things were heading made it for me. And with lots of little seeds planted ready to sprout in future books, I think we can be certain of more thrills, spills and romance.

Lt. Samantha (Sam) Holland is whisked away from the scene of a murder investigation by Secret Service agents. It all happened so abruptly that neither she nor her partner, Freddie, could stop them or get answers to their questions about what was going on. Sam finds herself locked down in a safe house along with the rest of her extended family. She eventually learns of the credible threat against them (especially the children) after she’s joined by her husband, Vice President Nick Cappuano. Needless to say, Sam is very verbal in her displeasure over being locked down and unable to pursue the investigation or her other cases. She insists on going to work in spite of the danger to herself and others.

The police procedurals in these cases are always intriguing. I enjoyed following the evidence along with Sam and other detectives as they worked together to solve this case. I love these characters and have enjoyed reading about their lives. However, there are things occurring that just don’t work for me. Sam is the Second Lady the Vice President’s wife and yet she roams around the city easily recognized without protection of any kind…because she stomps her foot and demands it be that way. There’s no consideration for Nick or anyone else just Sam doing what Sam wants to do. I loved that she continued to work after becoming Second Lady and think the plot has great potential, but it’s becoming harder to suspend belief and accept the fact that no agent covers her, and it’s never been more evident (or over-the-top) than in this book. Sam’s continued blatant attitude, along with some other issues, was so profound in Fatal Threat that I found myself shaking my head and rolling my eyes a few too many times. It lessened my enjoyment of this book.

I’m a fan of the series. I’ve loved the journey with Nick, Sam, and Scotty as well as the awesome support cast. I’m intrigued with their lives and future and am really hoping to see a more believable stance going forward. Yes, even Romance/Suspense has to be believable to a point. The saving grace for this book is the Bonus Story at the end concerning Avery and Shelby. I loved it and them!

Why? It's part of a series I am addicted to. When I met this series I read the first five I think straight one after the other. Then I had to wait like the rest of the fans for each one. This is #11. Published July 2017. Auto-buy and auto-read.

Plot Lt Sam Holland and her extended family are picked up from wherever they are and put into lockdown. Somebody is threatening them, especially the children. Needless to say Sam is grumpy about that as she is in the middle of a case involving an unknown body floating in the river. Then there is an even more significant dead body and let the ride begin! Set in Washington DC.

What Appeals to me? Every time there is usually the mystery of a dead body for Sam and her team. I love the team dynamics and the various characters, many of whom have had a book with some focus on them. Then there is Sam's family and the people who work for her and her husband Nick. And... Nick and Sam - what a dynamic, romantic couple.

Each book leads into the next, I couldn't imagine not reading the previous ones first in order, but I guess it could be done but I wouldn't advise it.

And so.... I sat up and read this book one evening and then the short story that followed and then... the first chapter of Fatal Chaos which comes out early next year. I never, I repeat never, read a first chapter in a coming book. I broke my rule this time!! Fatal Chaos - February 2018, you are in my calendar. And I might add I have pre-ordered it.

Another good installment.

I love Sam. I love Nick. I love Sam and Nick. I love Sam ... did I already say that I love Sam?

Did Nick always use "terms of endearments" in the previous books ... don't really remember. Personally, I fucking HATE them. Just can't see Sam as a "Babe" or "Sweetheart" kinda girl.

Anyway, I am still enjoying this series, 11 books in!

I really like this series! Now that I've read some In Death books, I can see the similarities! :)

Even if this is similar it's also quite different, but still enjoyable in a different way!

I love how Sam and Nick are together: in love, in lust and united! Add to that that now Scotty is part of their family and you'll have an ideal! :)

Still, as their story progress with each book, new and unexpected thing surface. Their past keeps intruding in their present (and probably their future as well)!

The crime/mystery part is convouted and the culprit completly unexpected!

I love also all the secondary characters: Jeanine, Freddy, Gonzo, Harry, Lilia, Shelby, Avery... they're integral part of the story! And their lives intrude in the best way! Love them all!!

I'm wondering what will happen if Nick gets to be elected President and, as he says: "we have to change the address"!!! I just can immagine Sam as the First Lady! LOL

Sam has to cope with a lot of stuff directed at her, and Nick, personally, and when she can't personally do something about it, she is rather cranky. We also have a situation with Agent Hill, again. I wasn't a big fan of this one, but Marie Force is an excellent writer to bring it all together and make me keep reading.

The stuff hits the fan when Sam is dragged away from a crime scene and placed on lock down in a secret location by the Secret Service while Nick is on an overseas trip. Then both Nick's estranged mother and Sam's ex-husband give tell-all interviews revealing highly inflammatory information about them, with potentially damaging results. Just another day in the lives of Sam and Nick. Then another body drops, and it becomes very clear that whoever is behind the threat doesn't like Nick and Sam, at all.

Lt. Sam Holland and her partner, Freddie Cruz, are on the scene of a homicide when Government Agents swoop in and whisk Sam away. Without telling her what exactly happened, they take her to an undisclosed location where she finds the rest of her extended family. It seems that there have been credible threats against the Vice President's family, and Nick is taking no chances with their safety. Sam wants to help the FBI find out who is behind the threats. Evidence shows that someone from Sam's past may be involved in helping threaten Sam, Nick, and their family.

I have mixed feelings about this story. I liked the mystery. Sam and her team had to do a lot of digging to figure out who made the threats against her family. I was stunned by the identity of the mastermind. I certainly didn't see that coming.

My problem with the story was Sam's attitude. She will not accept protection from the secret service, even though she is the Second Lady. She seems to think she is invincible. When Nick puts his foot down and says she can't leave the bunker until they have more information, she argues, stomps her foot, and does everything that a spoiled brat would do, including asking her father to pretend to be sick so she could take him to the hospital and "escape" her captivity. Unbelievable. I wish the author would write a more realistic story after making Nick the Vice President. My rating: 3.5 Stars.

July 2017 will bring another terrific addition to Marie Force's FATAL SERIES. Readers will be thrilled with it - I promise. It's packed full with chills, spills and thrills surrounding our favorite police lieutenant and her husband, the vice president of the USofA. This one definitely packs a wallop and yeah, there's some of those "special" scenes between Mr. and Mrs. Cappuano, as well.

Two words sum this one up: SURPRISES GALORE!

With each new release, I fall more and more in love with this cast of characters. Book #11 certainly is another terrific addition to the FATAL SERIES. Readers will be thrilled with it I promise. It’s packed full of chills, spills, and thrills that always seem to follow closely at the heels of our favorite police lieutenant and her husband Nick, the VP of the United States (Oh, how I wish that were true!). This may be my favorite installment thus far. But then, FATAL CHAOS arrives in early 2018, so I’m not betting on it. The Force just seems to get better with each new release.

FATAL THREAT delivers plenty of scandal and a houseful of cards falling fast and furiously. Plenty of fun, too but ALWAYS complexity in the cases Lieutenant Sam Holland seems to draw, and you’ll find yourself shaking your head in utter astonishment when all is said and done. This one definitely packs a wallop and yes, there are still plenty of those “extra special scenes between Mr. and Mrs. Cappuano. And yes, the favorite son, Scotty, and the rest of the family and gang are all in the mix, as well.

I’m still a bit shocked that we’re at the eleventh book in this addictive series and they just keep getting better and better. Marie makes it fairly easy for new readers to dive in without the need for a life raft built from the previous books to help get you to shore. Each book is complete no real cliffhangers. Some stories continue on with references to past cases, characters, etc. but you’ll never be left afloat without a life jacket. But one book will never be enough, so be prepared for the instantaneous need to one-click Marie’s backlist of books!

Outstanding romantic suspense! A perfect blend of steamy romance, intense suspense, and laugh-out-loud moments!!

Normally, I enjoy Marie Force's work, but I've had problems with her Fatal series for a while now. Ever since I read the entire Eve Dallas series, I can't help but compare the Fatal series to that one and it never measures up for me. Sam's antics smack of desperation, and moreover, they aren't realistic at all! It really feels as if she doesn't give a fig about supporting Nick politically. The story was a bit convoluted and I felt as if it was easy to see the mastermind from a mile off. I'm interested in seeing the political fall out from the events of this book, but I'm glad I'm getting them from the library.

Marie Force is one of my favorite authors. Her Fatal Series is my favorite romantic suspense series. Fatal Threat is book 11 in the Fatal series. This is another exciting story with US Vice President Nick Cappuano and his wife WPD Sam Holland.

Lt. Sam Holland is called to a homicide scene but is whisked away to an undisclosed bunker by the Secret Service. A threat has been made against Nick and Sam's loved ones. Eventually they too join Sam. Being cooped up drives Sam up the wall. She eventually convinces Nick to let her leave with Secret Service protection. She again has a lot on her plate. She has a new case to solve. She is so busy she can hardly find the time for the fitting of the bridesmaids dress for Jeannie's wedding.

Reader, prepare for excitement and fun with Nick, Sam and their family, friends and colleagues. I especially enjoyed the bonus short story featuring Avery, Shelby and their newborn baby.

Returning to Nick and Sam’s DC is always a rush. There are no easy days for these two. Nick is out of the country and Sam is on the hunt for a missing person and a murderer. But a credible threat against Second Family sends thing spiraling as the entire Holland/Cappuano extended families are put into protective custody. As Sam fights to work her cases from custody, Nick faces increasing pressure from the media while continuing to search for the source of the threat.

Sam and Nick bump heads as usual, but always at the core of their arguments is concern for the other. These two are a steady couple, despite the turmoil Nick’s new position has thrown the family into and the new challenges they face with the addition of Secret Service details to their lives. I love the way these two face challenges both together and separately.

I love the way this series focuses on Sam and Nick’s relationship while also giving attention to others around them. Most of the established relationships are addressed and updated, with particular attention paid to Avery and Shelby as they await the arrival of their baby.

This is the 11th in the series, which could be a daunting number to new readers. I have read most of the series, but it has been some time since I read the 10th book. I can say that new readers should be able to follow the events of this story, as well as the connections between the characters with no problems. The only places new readers might feel the establishment of the series is that going back to read previous books, certain plot points will be spoiled (within the relationships, not necessarily the procedural part of the plot).

The fast paced twists and turns of Sam’s investigation and the search for the threat kept me guessing as to the outcome of the events. I love how Sam’s investigations are always important to her, even if the victim is known to her and not someone she particularly likes.

I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review.

I love nothing more than when Sam gets her feathers ruffled. And boy...did she have them ruffled in FATAL THREAT.

As imagined, a threat against a high-ranking member of the White House would send those that protect our first and second families into high alert. But when one of those being protected is determined she doesn't need it, sparks fly and the Second Lady is determined to find who would do it and make sure they paid (especially when the Second Lady if forced off the job and her family is scared).

As usual, Sam is taking names and kicking ass. But this time the threat is more personal and Sam has to learn how to deal with everything that is being part of the second family when this kind of threat comes in, but also how to deal with her Alpha male husband who wants nothing more than to protect her.

It was during the very early parts of this book that I'm reminded, yet again, why Nick and Sam are still my favorite couple after 11 books. They may argue, sometimes really fight, but all they never forgot how much they love each other. Sam may not always see Nick's side of an issue right away while she's too busy trying to make sure her feelings are known, but deep down she knows what they feel for each other. She may push his buttons, but she understands why he needs her to be safe.

Marie Force always does a great job of keeping us up to date with the other members of Sam's team. Jeanine finally gets her HEA (she so deserves it). Tony is still dealing with his survivor's guilt, but seeing him push through and really be there for Sam and Freddie gave me hope he's going to make it through. And then there was Freddie. He's Sam's other rock and this book proved that.

Metro PD has my favorite group of police officers and I can't wait for what comes next.

Another one hit out of the ball park! Love the Fatal series.

Someone has issued a threat against the second family - Sam, Nick, and Scotty plus their close relatives. Sequestered in an underground bunker would drive anyone mad, but especially Sam when she had another murder to solve, plus this threat! Who would hate them so much. Good mystery with some good bantering between the characters. I had a sneaking suspicion as to who the culprit(s) was/were, but nothing firm until later on in the book. Lots of angst stirring up between the main characters and some ifs and buts thrown in to boot.

From the blurb: It's just another day at the office for Washington Metro Police lieutenant Sam Holland when a body surfaces off the shores of the Anacostia River. But before Sam can sink her teeth into the new case, Secret Service agents seize her from the crime scene. A threat has been made against her family, but nobody will tell her anything—including the whereabouts of her husband, Vice President Nick Cappuano.

Fatal Threat is book latest book in the Fatal Series.

While on a case investigating a body that has surfaced on the shores of the river
Lieutenant Sam Holland is almost bodily removed by the Secret Service and put into protective custody along with all her and Nick's family. You could actually feel her fear when she's trying to discover if her husband is ok.

Her husband, is Vice President of the United States Nick Cappuano. He is trying to keep all their loved ones safe. Although I understand Sam's frustration about being locked away from everything she doesn't come across as very nice to others including Nick. Though in the very end of the book she proves why we need her out on the working force solving cases.

What I really liked about this book is that there's a case within a case. While the Vice President's family is on lock down the Washington Metro Police continue on with their current cases as well as trying to help solve who is threatening their Lieutenant's family.

I just want to say that I absolutely love Freddie and Gonzo! Their word play had me laughing out loud in parts of this book.

The suspense and intrigue build up is great in this book. I would of never come to the same conclusion on who was behind the threats. A great twist.

This was a crazy ride! We're reunited with Sam and Nick, their families and their friends about 2 weeks before Det. Jeannie MecBride's wedding. The book starts with a dead woman in a river, everything normal, and them BAM! Sam's taken by the Secret Service in an undisclosed location with her whole family. Also, Nick is in Iran and we have no idea if something happened to him!

Ms Force wrote a fast paced story with our favorite 2nd family. We see them struggling with the life they have to lead because Nick is the Vice President and we see how affected Nick is because his job is fucking with everyone's lives. We read about the struggles being a detective and how it screws with your head and the sacrifices he/she makes. Besides this gloomy stuff, and the murders, there're great relationships, humor and Shelby has her baby!!!!

I loved catching up with my favorite characters and the next book is too far away *sigh*

I really hope that this series stays around for a while because it's always such a pleasure to read about Sam Holland and Nick Cappuano's exploits and struggles and see how their relationships develops over time. FATAL THREAT is a really thrilling addition to the series, especially because of the unexpected direction of the story and the many surprises it hid.

There are a lot of things that Lieutenant Sam Holland will let slide, but coming after her family is not one of those things and anyone coming for her or hers had better bring something better than their A-game or they will be limping away, at the very least.

When she gets forcibly removed from a crime scene by the Secret Service, Sam is terrified that her husband is not okay, but when she discovers the order came from him based on a threat to their family, immediate and extended; she is incensed and determined to get to the bottom of the issue and Sam is nothing but relentless about unearthing wrongdoing.

This particular case is very personal for Sam and Nick, with the death of someone who played a very pivotal role in their relationship, as well as the airing of painful secrets from Sam's past and new revelations about Nick's, which all point to a targeted plan to discredit Nick and potentially impact his job as the Vice President, but Sam is on it.

As expected, there was a lot of action and fireworks, as well as more of that sweet romance that we look forward to from Sam and Nick. The rest of Sam's squad gets some face-time too as they celebrate new beginnings and deal with losses.

My favorite thing about this book is watching Nick take center-stage for a bit over his wife and her large personality and flex his power as VP in a bid to protect her. Sam and Nick remind us with every story why we love them so much: they fight, they disagree but they never forget how much they love each other and never take that love for granted.

This is truly one of my favorite series and I look forward to what the author has in store for these characters.

Sam and Nick have grown to be one of my all time favorite couples in the romance world. What I love the most about them are their realness. Even though the dramas that are presented in each book are a reach for their stature in the DC community( a police lieutenant still working and is currently the Second Lady of The United States because obviously Nick is VP) they still struggle with the day to day of being a regular married couple. It's probably what I love best about them. This time though they are tested in their official capacities.

Sam who is usually as snarky as they come was much more emotionally based and sometimes it totally worked for her and other times it fell flat for me because she came off as difficult and less supportive to Nick's predicament as the VP and a husband. I feel like it was time for her to bend more than Nick. After finishing this one though I feel It was really a catalyst to the next part of this series. I saw changes with Sam that will make for interesting reading going forward. Sam is still one of the brassiest and interesting characters that I have read. While I faltered a bit with her I still am fan.

Nick... he's just amazing. I think with each book I find more reasons to love his character. Seriously, the man is too good for the written word!!

Also the secondary cast is just stellar. Freddie and Gonzo are quickly becoming stars in this series of their own right.

Looking forward to Book 12 title Fatal Chaos coming March 2018!

Happy Reading~ Sherry

5 Star Review of Fatal Threat (Fatal # 11) by Marie Force

Since this is book 11 in the series, there is always the concern that the books could get repetitive, have no fear this is not the case. Fatal Threat is another great addition to one of my favourite series from Marie Force.

Not content to write a suspenseful story with one plot twist, Fatal Threat contains two story lines for us to try and wrap our heads around. Although this is book 11 in the series, I do not believe that anyone new to these books would have trouble following the story; in fact when I first started to read this series I believe I started at book 6 or 7 and over time went back and purchased the books to read in order.

This was one of thouse books I was riveted to from start to finish, I didn't want to put it down as I found myself saying just one more chapter, Nick and Sam are so well suited to each other and their love continues too grow whilst living complicated and at times dangerous lives.

You will be drawn into not only their story, but those of their family and friends as such is the skill of Ms.Force you cannot help but become invested in all of the characters. I always love catching up not only with Sam, Nick and Scotty but all their extended family.

Fatal Threat is full of was romance, danger, suspense, humour and plenty of complications to keep you guessing to the end.

I cannot wait to read more in the series....

I'll let you guys into a secret of mine: I absolutely love crime drama/ thriller TV shows. Criminal Minds, Bones, Body of Proof, Rizzoli and Isles? I'm obsessed with all of them! Because of this, I've been on the hunt lately for some good thriller reads because, quite simply, I cannot resist a good mystery. Therefore, when Marie Force's Fatal Threat, her latest addition of to the Fatal Series, landed on my radar, I immediately added it to the top of my TBR pile. Luckily, Fatal Threat provided just what I was craving: suspense, humor, and just the right amount of swoon-worthy romance.

While this is the eleventh book in the series, it was actually my first. Initially, I was a little worried I would have a hard time following but thankfully it turned out to be an non-issue! It was incredibly easy to jump right into Sam and Nick's story - I felt like I've known them forever!

Sam is the kind of main character I can't help but love and root for. She's the ultimate bad a$$: fierce, loyal, and protective. I admired not only her need to do anything to protect the ones she loves but also put her own life (and sometimes sanity) on line in order to do so. Throughout the book, she gets into so many crazy, heart stopping situations, and no matter what occurred, she always managed to give the bad guys a good run for their money! My favorite quality of hers, though, was actually her willingness to always speak her mind, even if it sometimes got in her trouble. Basically, she sometimes has the case of foot-in-mouth disease, but don't we all sometimes? It caused for some good laughs at times, especially when reading about her interactions with her partner. In addition, to Sam there was a cast of characters I came to love over the course of the book - her family, her partner, her fellow co-workers at police statin, her friends....every single one added something great to the story. I'm excited to go back and read the previous books so I can learn more about them all!

The plot of this in one word? SUSPENSEFUL! During the entirety of the book, I was on the edge of my seat, dying to know more and also coming up with my own theories as to who the bad guys were. In Fatal Threat, we get the privilege of not one but TWO mysteries: the mysterious floater and the threat to the Sam's family. Both were well-devoleped and intertwined nicely into the story. Just when you thought they weren't going to make headway on one case, a real shocker would come through! I also enjoyed the romance between Nick and Sam. They're such an adorable couple, and I loved seeing them interact with each other. They're both strong headed and slightly (okay, maybe incredibly impulsive in Sam's case) but at the end of the day they're a great team!

In all, Fatal Threat was a wonderful, fast paced read; however, be prepared for the ending. It's a real jaw-dropper! Lastly, while this may be my first book by Marie Force, it certainly won't be my last! I'm super excited to read her back catalogue.

Grade: B+

I have to admit Marie Force is one of my go to authors and the Fatal Series is one of my favourites but who would have thought 11 books in, I would be saying this series gets better and better with every book. Sam and Nick are intriguing and their books are not just a love story there is always at least one plot happening and Fatal Threat is no different, the twists and turns will keep you on the edge of your seat from the first chapter. Will the Vice President and the Second Lady survive not only threats against them and their closest friends and family but also their pasts being dragged up for all to read about..... guess you need to read the book to find that out.
This series is about family, friends and loyalties, you will be drawn into the plots and let's not forget just how hot Sam and Nick are. Looking forward to more from the Vice President and The Second Lady in future books.

Book 11 and Sam and Nick are still going strong. There are some changes in the squad and the team continues to deal with issues from previous books - that is one of the reasons I love this series so much. There is a continuity that really rewards the fans.

Sam and Nick have had to deal with so many challenges, but their relationship is the source of their strength and it is so romantic. Truly, I'm not sure that there is a better realistic book boyfriend out there than Nick Cappuano. There are several issues that arise that makes me eager for the next story because if it comes to fruition, it will be a doozy.

3.75 stars.

Gosh, it's like everything that can ever happen to Sam and Nick is cramped into this book. I just thought there was too much happening... and Sam's reaction when she found out about her ex-husband seems a bit too unprofessional for a harden homicide lieutenant.

Fatal Threat
3 Stars

During a routine visit to a crime scene, Detective Lieutenant Sam Holland is whisked away by the Secret Service following a threat made against her husband, the Vice President, and their families. The investigation leads to several shocking revelations related to both Sam and Nick's pasts. Who has them in their sights, and how far will they go?

Series note: Due to significant character development from one book to the next as well as an ongoing story arc, the books should be read in order.

Despite the compelling secondary cast of characters and the intriguing cases, this series is undermined by a distinctly unlikable heroine, several annoying tropes, and some non-sensical plot developments.

The investigation is interesting, especially the revelations concerning . Force caught me off guard here, and I was surprised to find myself sympathizing with a character whose past actions have been despicable, to say the least. Nevertheless, the eventual explanation falls short as it lacks originality. There have already been similar villains with comparable motives.

The main problem with this book, and the series as a whole, is Sam. She is arrogant, self-entitled and insufferable. She endangers both herself and others with her carelessness and belief that she is the only one who can solve cases. Her condescending attitude is grating and her lack of professionalism is appalling. Her one saving grace is her love for her family and loyalty to her team.

Finally, the Avery/Shelby/Sam storyline is so tiresome. The entire situation is ridiculous, considering Avery obviously loves Shelby, and his infatuation with Sam is unconscious. From a psychological perspective, his involuntary reactions to her make zero sense. Force needs to resolve this once and for all ASAP!

Overall, I am of two minds with this series. The cases and secondary characters are compelling, but the heroine and romance are meh. It is the buddy read keeping me going.

WOW!! This book really knocks it out of the park. Though I didn't know this book was a new release in a series I read the book and have to say this book blows everything out of the water. Edge of my seat! I couldn't put it down! Never have read Marie Force before or any books in the Fatal series I have to say I now have to go back and read from the Prequel all the way through. What an amazing job! I didn't wonder who people were, why they were the way they were or anything else so to me it can be a standalone but I will tell you after reading this...You will want to go and read the rest of the series if you hadn't before hand. The characters are wonderful. I love Sam and Nick. With Nick being the Vice President of the United States and Sam being a Lt. on the police department it sure makes a great read especially when a threat is being made to the family. To say staying up until 4 AM to read a book one might think I was crazy but there was NO WAY! I could put this book down go to bed and wait to see what was happening or going to happen. I am shocked at some of the events in the book so Marie did a great job with that. I don't give spoilers cause I can't stand them but I will say YOU HAVE TO READ THIS BOOK!! Heck, you have to read the whole series I know I am going to. Marie Force now has a new fan. This is like eating chips you can't eat just one well, this book is you can't read just one. If you read just this one you will have to go back for more. I hope there is more in this series.

This was another fantastic story in the series, and I literally devoured it in just a few hours, and I know I've said this before but this series does just get better and better. And as usual Fatal Threat was full of suspense, heat and humour, and I was gripped throughout. Plus, it truly kept me guessing, and boy was I surprised when the guilty party was revealed. As that was one twist I had not seen coming. But it's good to know even after ten books Ms. Force can still surprise the hell out of me!! And in turn possibly send this series in a whole new direction, and quite frankly I loved every second of it. Which is why I would happily recommend this story and series to all.
