Poems

I like these poems because they all take the reader though a little girls life through the four seasons. The poems are cleverly written and its fun being told a story by putting it in the form of poems.

I did not really like the poems. It may still fit with themes of the progression of the seasons or farm life.

Grade: K-1 (and 2)
Topic: Seasons (winter & spring)

This book is told through the eyes of a little girl and her experiences through winter and spring. Although students learn about seasons in the lower grades, this book would actually be much better for 2nd grade and up. The book is written in a kind of free verse poetry style that goes on through the whole book. It would show students learning to write poetry or experimenting with writing poetry that they have creative license to write however they would like. This book shows that there really is no exact structure that needs to be followed for something to be a "poem."

In for winter, Out for spring is a sweet book about the changing of seasons. It discusses snow, rain, spring and the transition that takes place for the seasons. It is a different styled book than I have ever seen for a children's book. It offsets words to make the book a little more Non-fiction book. I think it is fun and exciting. Great book to use in the classroom when the seasons are changing. I would suggest this book for Elementary level, for those who wants to learn more about the weather and seasons.

This was a book of poetry that was one long poem instead of a compilation of poems. It had a very interesting style in the way the words were typed onto the page which I liked. I also liked how it wasn't a typical poem with a set rhyme scheme; the words just seemed to all flow together.

Interesting poem lay-outs, poems are descriptive and easy to identify with (rural childhood and family). Gread for "stuff with Dad", poems about grandma and big brother, gardening, nature (animals and plants), and seasons.

I remember my mother reading this book to me as soon as I could understand it and reading it myself as soon as I could read. It's a very beautiful poetry book with gorgeous illustrations that has always kept me interested. I reread it every year as it brings back a lot of memories for me.

This book will show children things that happen during the season changes. I feel like this book is written like a poem and I read it with rhythm. Throughout the book this is some rhyming.

"Collection of poems, told from the perspective of a young girl, celebrates family life throughout the yearly cycle of seasons."

Wonderful pictures! Good example of irregular lines.

A joyful celebration of childhood and a child's connection to nature through Adoff's long poem and Pinkney's characteristic illustrations.
