From an ER nurse, to a school principal, ordinary people must band together and discover unknown strength and resilience, to do extraordinary things, if there is any hope of ever making the island state, the last refuge of the fallen. In a post-apocalyptic world though, not everyone can survive
I live in Melbourne, Australia with my wife and three children. I grew up reading Stephen King, Richard Matheson, and Jean Auel, amongst others. I love hearing a good story, particulary with a fantastic element, but my bookcases are filled with an eclectic mix of authors. My writing is the first priority of the day before I head off to my full time job!
This is the review I left on the Kindle store and says everything that needs to be said. It's a series well worth getting into.
To begin with I was bothered about having to get used to a new bunch of characters and having to wait to find out what happened to the other group but that didn't last long.
The new characters are really likeable and made a positive impression on me pretty quickly, when in the first trilogy some of them took a bit of warming up to.
It was a really well paced read and I never got to a point that made me want to stop reading, as can sometimes be the case in books with dislikeable characters.
Some of the phrases and slang used in the book bamboozled me a little. I could mostly guess the meaning and I certainly wouldn't consider it a negative as it's one of the things that helps to ground the book in its location.
Another thing that helps to build a nice little picture in your head is how descriptive it is. It's not piled on too much but there's just enough for you to imagine what the locations look like.
Zombies. There's loads of them and they always feel like a problem. They're suitably disgusting and mostly as overwhelming as you'd expect them to be.
It's a book that I would recommend to anybody that I thought would read it and was well worth every penny I paid for it. Hopefully the next one will roll round a bit faster because I always hate waiting for the next installment of a cool read.
Books 1 - 3 concentrated on the plaque from the multiple perspectives of survivors on the Australian mainland. Now into the fourth installment, we turn to Tasmania for another perspective. Sure, I miss the other group, but after quickly getting into the novel, found that I cared just as much about these people and their situations. Can you read this book before the first 3? Yes. Will the cliffhanger in book 3 be resolved? Yes, eventually. If you have read them already, you'll truly love this new turn and setting. Time to wait for the next installment! Enjoy!
This is seriously one great book and I can't wait to read the next one in this series. Owen Baillie has done an awesome job and this is one book and series I will definitely recommend to others. Mac is one great character and I love that he's there for his friends as well as his family. I am so hoping this series does not end any time soon, as this I'm hoping goes on longer than just two or three books. Owen Baillie, please keep the books coming....
Another great read by Mr. Baillie. This is a continuation of the An Invasion of the Dead Novel series, #4. There are new characters, new towns, new situations. I could not put this down, like the other 3, you get caught up in the pages and feel as if you are there with those that are trying to survive. Thank you Owen for another fantastic adventure.
The book was decent and I like the super zombie premise, but an M4 is not a shotgun no matter how often you write that it is. And a shotgun isnt an M4. Those types of nomenclature issues bother those of us military personnel and those who love guns.
I liked how chance meetings and overall naivete about the virus outbreak is resulting in New groups . Very enjoyable read, ready for the next book. Lots of Latin g about survival against an unexpected enemy and how survivors adapt.
Haven’t read a good zombie book in ages and forgot how good they can be with excellent writing. Although it seems like most of the best are set in Australia or environs. Recommend this book as a good zombie read
The long awaited 4th book in Owen Baillie's Invasion of the Dead series doesn't disappoint! What I really like is that although this is book 4, it doesn't follow on from the first three novels in the series. Breakdown takes us to a different corner of Australia and introduces us to a whole new cast of characters, and the events in this novel pre-date those in first trilogy. For those readers who haven't read one of Baillie's books before, the plus of this is that you don't need to read the first three novels before taking on Breakdown!! As usual, Owen has fleshed out his characters' personalities well and doesn't shy away from exploring the relationships that exist between those individuals. The characters in Breakdown differ quite markedly from those in the first trilogy of books, in terms of skill sets and background. It makes it interesting to have such a varied cast! I also like that Breakdown offers us some insight into the "beginnings" of this global viral event and the varying effects of it on the population. And in true Baillie style, this novel is fast paced and action packed!
Another excellent story told by Owen Baillie! This is the fourth book in the Invasion of the Dead series but it is also a stand alone story. I hope that the next book in this won't belong in coming out. I love the characters in this book and need to find out what is happening to them I will also be anxious to see how Owen is going to bring the kids from the first three books to meet our new characters. If you just want to read the series starting from this book, you will be ok. But I would suggest reading the first three also. They are a fantastic read or if you like to listen to your books, they are also on audible. Thanks Owen for a great and enjoyable read.
