Ellie Darkins is a writer, editor and reader of romance novels. When she's not tapping away at her keyboard she can usually be found next to the kettle, knitting *another* jumper, or in the local library sampling the coffee, cake and romance novels.
MS Darkins has such a beautiful writing voice her stories are so very moving and this one is a beauty, two people PA Eva and son to Eva’s boss Joss Dawson who are pretty much loners for their own reasons are bought together with a fake engagement when Joss’s father announces that he is ill and Joss knows how much this will make his father happy, but could this sudden engagement open their worlds to love?
Joss has been through an illness, he has been divorced and has no plans to begin another relationship that is one reason he has stayed away from Eva because he has feelings for her and has no intention of hurting her. But when his father announces his illness he will do anything to make him happy even bringing himself closer to falling in love with Eva.
This is a beautiful story Eva is a strong heroine who struggles to see how couple live together but she does know that she is falling for Joss as they spend more time together and Joss is so afraid of hurting Eva that their path to a HEA has a lot of hills to climb first but when they get there the joy is so lovely. I highly recommend this story moving, emotional and such a great story wonderful characters it had me smiling.
I received a copy of this novel through the Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ Giveaways scheme. I entered the giveaway because the title made me smile.
3.5* rounded up. Eva works for Edward, who owns a global chain of department stores. When Edward discovers his son and second-in-command Joss helping Eva with the zip on her dress, he assumes they are romantically involved, and, on the spur of the moment, Joss tells Edward he and Eva are engaged. Edward is delighted and then informs the board that he is resigning with immediate effect as he has only months to live. Eva cannot then bring herself to force Joss to tell his father the truth.
I enjoyed the opening scene with the "zip misunderstanding" - it was light-hearted and we got a sense of how Joss and Eva feel about each other. The rest of the novel was not so light-hearted; Joss has never acted on his feelings for Eva for reasons that are rehearsed over and over again, into the last few pages. Eva is also influenced by her childhood disappointments (again, we hear plenty about these), although we do see her working to overcome her issues towards the end. Joss had been so moody throughout and Eva so closed off that I really wanted to see them interacting lovingly and normally for a few chapters to reassure myself that they were in fact going to be happy together.
The writing was good and I appreciated the fact that Eva had a responsible job and was good at it. While the plot was coherent and a few things (business trips, hospital stays) did happen, too much of the narrative was devoted to accounts of why Eva and Joss were constantly circling each other, retreating if they allowed a drop of sympathy or affection to escape them. It all got rather wearing after a while.
I loved the dual perspectives that the story is told from it gave a lovely rounded feel to the story to hear from both Joss and Eva. They were a perfect match but of course things never run smoothly and they both have heartache in their pasts that left them a little on the insecure side. Can they get away with faking a relationship or will it all end in tears?
The story was the perfect length for me to read in an evening and once I started I didn't want to put this book down. It is a sweet and heart warming story about two people who although attracted to each other are fearful of falling for each other due to their pasts. Joss and Eva's chemistry is perfect and you can see the sparks fly when they are together but I also loved how Eva is able to stand up to Joss.
Both characters had vulnerabilities which made them all the more endearing and I really hoped for that happy ever after. Joss has had a difficult time and I could totally understand his reasoning for the way he acts and I loved how Ellie Darkins put this issue into the book. Joss is a strong character but sometimes we can't be strong all the time and Joss is a perfect example of this. The combination of more serious issues and the flirty interactions between Joss and Eva was balanced perfectly. I was left smiling on a couple of occasions as I wondered if they would be brave enough to jump into a real relationship.
Flirty, sweet and heart warming!
With thanks to Ellie Darkins for my copy. This is my honest and unbiased opinion
Temptation ... to love? Secret crushes rise to the surface when Joss and Eva are all of a sudden working in close quarters! This is a quick and easy read and even though it has some underlying sadness to the plot, it's a well crafted book. It was a little unusual for this Harlequin line because the sex scenes are quickly glossed over and sort of shoved under the covers, but none-the-less, it was a thoroughly enjoyable book. I will look forward to reading future books by this author!
When suddenly thrust into his father's job as the head of the family business, Joss Dawson finds himself blessed with the ever efficient and competent Eva by his side. She's been his father's assistant for years, so he'll need her experience in helping the transition go through smoothly, but the temptation of being around her is going to be even more difficult than it's already been!
Eva too has had a secret crush on Joss ever since she started working there, but she's never had to interact with him that much so it's been easy to hide. Now working side by side, it's going to be a bigger deal ... especially since he just told his dying father that they are engaged!
Well-written, but slow, boring, and a little bit depressing.
Joss is scared to fall in love because he had depression during his first marriage, so he constantly brings it up and thinks about it. Eva is always thinking about feeling abandoned by her parents growing up. Both characters are always pushing the other away, the relationship is sloooow, and there isn't really any spark between them (except in the first chapter...then it just dies). It also seemed to end abruptly...this could've used an epilogue to tie things up (what happened when they got together? What happened with his father?).
I wish there was more chemistry...might have made up for the pace and other issues

Ellie Darkins writing in Conveniently Engaged to the Boss is pure perfection. The story oozed with a sensuality that makes you swoon and kudos to the author for bringing this book to life with such clarity. I loved every bit of Joss and Eva's journey!
Joss will do anything to put a smile on his dying father’s lips. Proposing to the beautiful Eva makes his father happy. Except the deception behind the charade he’d concocted haunts Eva. However, spending excess time with Joss leaves her with a heart on the verge of melting. She’s mad for Joss. But will her feelings be reciprocated? Find out in Ellie Darkins fabulous new release!
What a lovely story! Great characters in Joss and Eva and one of my favourite tropes: a fake engagement - but between two people who’ve fancied each other for years. Understandable obstacles and conflict which are handled in an adult way. I loved Eva’s determination and her courage to go after what she wanted. A really super story.
