A spin off short story from Dancing Around the Cop Alpha and Omega series #2.5
Detective Sully Roberts spent his life living a lie but when his best friend Zander mated with Terry, Sully was thrown into a world where wolf shifters looked human and true mates were real. Of course, as a human he never expected to find a mate. Zander explained they were rare and while he dreamed of finding someone to call his own, he’d settle for getting his father off his back. In the meantime, Sully was doing his best to climb out of the closet; not easy, even with new friends by his side.
Gunnery Sergeant Quentin Thorne, Q to his friends, lived for the armed forces. After spending eight years in the Marines, he was on leave pondering his re-enlistment. Something was holding him back and it wasn’t just his wolf. Deciding to visit his brother Richard, he’d barely got off the plane, when he was assailed with a scent he hadn’t known he was waiting for.
Two career men; one bite would change everything. But not everyone accepts their union. When a fire breaks out and Sully is wounded both men have to seriously consider a change of plans.
Note: This short story is a spin off from Dancing Around the Cop, book two in the Alpha and Omega series. While it can be read as a standalone, you will understand more about the secondary characters if you have read that book first.
This book is an M/M true mate romance. It depicts intimate scenes between males.
Lisa Oliver had been writing non-fiction books for years when visions of half dressed, buff men started invading her dreams. Unable to resist the lure of her stories, Lisa decided to switch to fiction books, and now stories about her men clamor to get out from under her fingertips. When Lisa is not writing, she is usually reading with a cup of tea always at hand. Her grown children and grandchildren sometimes try and pry her away from the computer and have found that the best way to do it, is to promise her chocolate. Lisa will do anything for chocolate. Lisa loves to hear from her readers and other writers. You can friend her on Facebook (), or email her directly at [email protected]. I was glad we got to see a different and improved side of Sully!!! He and Terry together on their bus trip was cute with their conversation and bonding. ;-D
Sully has always been gay but is deeply in the closet. He has hurt his friends with his disdain and lies. But he is trying to be better and be true to himself. Meeting Q gives Sully someone just for him but will he survive long enough to enjoy him?
Change of Plans by Lisa Oliver is 2.5 in the Alpha and Omega series. It revisits characters seen before and allows Ms. Oliver to show Sully in a better light. This was my first time reading this series and I was able to keep up. I enjoyed Sully and Q. Neither had much experience with gay relationships but Ms. Oliver showed that the only thing that mattered was a willingness to try. I felt sorry for Sully. His prior actions hurt his friend and unfortunately he then had to reap what he sowed. He was honest and really wanted to be better. I loved that he stood before his friends wanting to be better and accepted. I also loved that Q appreciated the nature of the man fated to be his. He knew he had made mistakes, acknowledged them and saw deeper into the man that was his. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and can’t wait to see where Ms. Oliver will take us next.
This story is actually a continuation of the book, "Dancing Around the Cop" - but picks up the story with Sully finding out that he is mates to a new wolf shifter - Richard's brother. There is a lot of overlap with the characters from that previous book and it was nice to revisit characters from before. Poor Sully has had a truly rough life - trying to hide his sexuality and deal with his overbearing father. I really loved how he owned up to his atrocious behavior and his past mistakes and tried to show his mate, Q, that he was serious about their relationship. Q is serious and slightly stoic, everything you might expect from a Marine sergeant, but he jumps in feet first into his mating and never looks back. There are a lot of instances of terrible homophobia in this story but the author does a wonderful job of telling the truth and not glossing over the bad. It's unfortunate that situations like this happen in real life, but it was heartening to see that these characters didn't let the ignorance of others stop them from finding their happiness. I really love this series of books and look forward to reading the next one in the set. 5/5*
Rating: 4 stars I really enjoyed this book. I liked both Sully and Q as the main characters. Sully probably more than Q, just because Q was such a strong, silent, marine type that it was harder to connect with him. To be honest, it had been so long since I read book 2 in the series, that I had forgotten most of the events in the book. I think this helped because I didn't have any preconceived notions about Sully's character. Sometimes it's harder to connect with a character who wasn't likeable in previous installments. That wasn't the case here. I really liked Sully and was happy to see him get his HEA.
The story itself was a bit predictable in places, but again that didn't prevent me from enjoying the story. All in all it was a good short story that I recommend even if you haven't read any of the others in the series.
Sully is a human detective who we met with his partner Zander in a previous book. He was a real jerk in that story when he found out after years of friendship that Zander was gay and a wolf shifter. He was so hurt that he tried to make trouble for Zander at work and even though he apologized and they stayed friends Sully had to change departments to a very homophobic SWAT. Sully meets the brother of mutual friends who is a marine, gay, and a wolf shifter and says Sully is his mate. Sully is on board with that and ends up being outed at work. During a hostage situation Sully is attacked and shot four times by his teammates. His mate and friends rescue him but things need to be worked out. A really great story with the author's signature HEA.
Sully proved himself a worthy friend to Zander after living in the closet for so many years and it was great to see that he thought Terry a friend too.
Quentin Thorne, marine and brother to Richard is just the perfect mate for Sully. He's strong, caring, loving and so supportive that Sully just no longer feels emotionally crippled by his homophobic father and so called SWAT colleagues or anyone else. He's become the open carefree man that he was meant to be and that is mainly down to meeting his mate.
Hate is a powerful and dangerous thing and although Sully suffered, I'm pleased that he came through it all to get his HEA.
Sully was one of the mc’s partner in Dancing Around the Cop. I wanted to flatten him for being an arsehole and so stupid. Right towards the end of that book we found out why that happened and he redeemed himself somewhat. I wanted to know what happened to him. It took me a while to find this book as it wasn’t easy to find on Amazon. I’m so glad I did find and buy it, and learnt how he finally got his own HEA. Now I think it is his father and some of his workmates who need to be flattened not him.
A love story that shows that anyone can have love if they are willing to reach out and take it when it's presented to them. Even a formerly openly homophogic man. Both men have to change their plans to find a new life together. But love finds a way, and these two embraced it with open eyes and hearts. I will always recommend this author to anyone who loves a good story about hot men and wolf shifters.
4.5 stars, well it seems that I found a comfort author for omegaverse. This didn't made it to 5 stars because it was too short! And that would not be a problem but there's so much going on that most of it just feel rushed, they met, mated, Sully got in problems with his team, he was shot, the politician father appeared, they got married, bought a farm... and we missed most of that, still Q and Sully were a wonderful pair and I'm gonna read this again for sure
I just loved it Lisa. It was short and sweet. Had its times of ill repute, shall I say, but I'm glad he told his father to leave. And now they shall live happily ever after in their ranch house. I really like hearing the stories you write Lisa and I can't wait for more.
This story was just about perfect. I loved how I was certain that Sully was going to do something unforgivable in the last book, and yet I'm 100% rooting for him in this one. I liked that he and Q didn't really have much of any drama - with everything going on against Sully, Q was able to be his sage harbor from pretty much the beginning.
3.25 stars Good addition to the series. I wish it had been longer and had more dialogue to from Q to really get to know him. I liked their honestly with each other, no misunderstandings but the whole thing felt a bit rushed
She did our again. I love the stories this author writes. The characters never seem unreal. You can always relate to someone in the story. And your heart goes out to those who are hurt.
Short, to the point, enjoyable book. Sully and Q are mates. One is a detective the other is a Marine. Tgey both have to make decisions on how to make their mating work.
I really liked this story just a but short for me and I would have loved to know more about Q he seems to be a character with real depth that we never got to see which is a shame but a good read to round out the series.
Q a marine and Richards brother home on leave before reenlisting. Q was also a shifter and was surprised to find his mate Sully. Sully was happy to get what he was always looking for. This I'd book 2.5
I'm happy that Sully had a chance to redeem himself and find the courage to be his true self. He and Q were great together and I really like the fated mate thrope.
Another slam dunk from Lisa Oliver. Her shifter stories are beyond compare. I'm so glad sully got his HEA! Wonderful addition to the Alpha and Omega series!
This one is my favorite in this series, so far. It has a simple plot, great characters, and a true mating. If you're looking for a quick, smexy, and interesting read, this is your story.
Love the book as usual. I just wish they just made it an official part of the series rather than a spin-off. It's almost the same length as the other books in the series.
This story was alright. I didn't dislike Sully and Quentin, but remembering Sully from the previous book there seemed to be a huge personality shift into this book. Still Sully and Quentin were sweet as they really did feel like a strong couple together. A relationship is new to both of them, but they're committed to each other. And I did like this side of Sully. He felt like a guy that you could really like and see why he and Zander were such good friends before everything happened. I do appreciate my happy endings though and I liked where everything went. :)
5* - very very good and rare (it would be a Blow- Away-book like ‘Jesse's Smile' or ‚Joey from Angelique Jurd, ‘Save the at he kids' series from EM Leya, ‘Love’s Tethered Heart from C.L. Etta or 'Liberty' from Seth King), it's like an A+
4* - very good and will be often reread and is a WOW-book with interesting plot and surprises (like most of Andrew Grey’s books) it's like an A
3,5* - a really good book, which will be reread a few times a year (most romances where you can enjoy for relaxing and during waiting times in hospitals). I can recommend them definitively! It's like an B+
3* - it could be more then a one-time-reader, maybe 2-3 times a year. It’s like a B
2* - it was ok to read, but it's more a one-time- reader (i wouldn't recommend it heartily, but it was ok). It's like a C-, D
1* - sorry, but that isn't really a book for me (too many mistakes, not nice plot, illogical, so an absolut NO-GO). It's like failure in the whole line, dismissed, repeat the class
After betraying his Detective partner, Zander, Sully admits he's gay too and comes out of the closet. When he goes with some friends to meet Richard's brother arriving at the airport he feels something for Quentin he thinks is more than just wanting to sleep with him.
When Q, on leave from the Marines, meets Sully his wolf cries out 'mate' and 'mine'. From the usual new relationship issues to trying to protect Sully from his hateful new fellow SWAT team members Q has his paws full. Especially when his new boss and a fellow SWAT member try to kill him.
The book is in both Sully and Q's POV. The angst level is about medium. I really liked both Sully (especially since he's become a more honest man) and Q as characters. It was nice seeing Zander and Terry again too.
