Allie and Bash have been best friends since they were teenagers, always there for each other through thick and thin, a makeshift family without intimate benefits. Never wanting to jeopardize their friendship they ignored the mutual attraction until recently. A passionate kiss, three months ago, left them both discombobulated. Avoiding the issue, they’ve grown apart just when they need each other most. Allie finds out she could lose her diner, and her fifteen-year-old daughter, Angel is discovering the opposite sex! Bash is having his own business struggles, as well.

Once a Charmer
ended up being a touching best-friends-to-lovers romance! I had my doubts because up until about the 37% mark I was getting a little frustrated that Bash and Allie weren’t communicating. I guess this was somewhat necessary because before this book I didn’t really know their history, only that there was some underlying sexual tension between them. Their romance really took off for me after that, with lusty, can’t-keep-our-hands-off-each-other exchanges, but I loved the close, tender moments between them just as much. I melted over how protective Bash could be with Allie and her daughter Angel. He made such soul-baring declarations, in public no less, that completely stole my heart! Bash and Allie truly completed each other, and with Angel they were a perfect, sweet, ready-made family!

A wonderful mix of angst, sexiness and romance.

Sharla Lovelace has a delightful way of producing a story with just the right amount of feels, steam and romance that easily engage me from the start. I have enjoyed reading her books which provide a lovely escape every time. With this third book in the Charmed in Texas series, she has once again recaptured the good and not so good quirks of living in a small town.

In Once a Charmer, we catch up with Bash Anderson and Allie Greene, whose lives have been intertwined since childhood, have been the best of friends for an entire lifetime and are all the family each other have along with Allie’s teenage daughter, Angel. Theirs is an angsty yet sizzling tale about courage, learning to leave the past behind and open themselves to the possibility of wonderful happiness beyond friendship.

As a single mother, Allie had spent the past fifteen years taking care of her daughter while running the family dinner and generally being a loner. Sure she could count on her best friend Bash for anything, including being a father figure to her daughter. Until she thought his life was in danger and hurried to help him. The rush of seeing him unharmed propelled her to kiss him and to her surprise he kissed her back. Ever since then, he’s been staring in her nightly dreams but during the daylight hours he seem to be avoiding her.

Fate strikes hard when and out of towner brings unwelcome news to Allie and stirs trouble for Bash’s apiary, and to make matters more interesting someone nominated them to be the town’s Honey King and Queen. Will they have the courage to build a romantic relationship over their lifelong friendship?

Neither of them could survive without the other, they had been each other’s support through just about everything. Even though they’re attracted to each other, they fight tooth and nail against it because the negative consequences of crossing intimate lines were just too dire to face. Until the desire is impossible to ignore and then the only thing that’s keeping them apart is Allie’s big chip on her shoulder and her fear of saying yes to the only man she’s ever loved.

I loved Allie and Bash’s story. It had the exact amount of all the right things. I was on their team and rooted for them from start to finish, even though Allie’s inability to see the awesomeness of her love for Bash did start to frustrate a bit. I also loved the town and the recurring characters. There’s a lot more to build on, and I couldn’t be more excited about what’s to come. Lovelace adds a wonderful story to her series.

Once a Charmer is book #3 in the Charmed in Texas series by author Sharla Lovelace. It is a standalone contemporary romance with a great balance between wit, steaminess, and heartfelt emotions.

Allie Greene and Sebastian "Bash" Anderson are the BEST of friends. They have been in each other's lives for years -- with Bash also pretty much becoming a father figure to Allie's daughter. They haven't really crossed the line though, the fine line between friends and lovers. Until that kiss, the kiss that Allie gave Bash few months ago when she thought that he was shot. Now Allie's nights are bombarded with sexy things that Bash does to her...

I think, compared to the previous two books, this is the first time I'm being quite comfortable with the story written from the heroine's first person perspective. With A Charmed Little Lie (book #1) and Lucky Charmed (book #2) I missed the heroes's thoughts. I wanted to understand how they fell for the heroines. Especially because Nick was a stranger to Lanie, while Sully was Carmen's 'one who got away'.

In here, I felt like I didn't need Bash's perspective. I KNOW without a doubt that Bash always loves Allie. He has been Allie's person for years, the one who keeps Allie's secret, the one who Allie turns to during times of need, the one who knows Allie inside out. The ball is pretty much in Allie's court, so to speak. Allie, who is now dealing with a teenage daughter, a father with ailing health, and news that she might lose the family diner she's been managing for the past seven years. It is definitely NOT the time for all sexual repressed feelings towards her best friend to coming like a torrent of rain *laugh*

Allie is probably my favorite heroine of this series so far. Allie becomes a single mother when she is seventeen, her father has a gambling problem and he pretty much gambled their live savings away after her mom died. So she becomes the responsible one. It must not be easy but Allie never gives up. She's strong, determined, and I admired her so much. I liked how she dealt with her daughter too. Allie can be a tiger Mama but she's not exactly restraining Angel as well. I thought their relationship as mother and daughter was pretty healthy.

My slight problem with Once a Charmer is in the romantic progress between Allie and Bash. Despite my certainty of Bash's feeling I thought there were other important things happening in Allie's life as well (her daughter, the diner) that the romance became slightly pushed in the background. Even if Allie constantly thinking about Bash and the sexy dreams. Which is too bad considering that Bash easily takes the title as "King of Charm" in my eyes. His speech for Allie alone ... MAN, hands down, kicks Nick's or Sully's asses in the 'big gesture' department ... I am dying for more Allie and Bash moments.

All in all, Once a Charmer is lovely, heartwarming, and sweet. I love this series and I hope there's still more tales coming from this small town of Charm, Texas.

I absolutely LOVE this series... Sharla Lovelace has become one of my go-to authors that I read anything and every time she releases a book. I adore this small town series and even more I LOVE that this is a best friends to more type of romance.

Allie and Bash have been friends since they were teens, always there for each other through thick and thin and delivering babies :) They could always rely on each other, talk to each other honestly until... the kiss that changed everything.

Now they are just weird with each other, not knowing how to act and having feelings for each other that they can't ignore. Couple that with the issues with their businesses, teenager growing up problems and the King and Queen of Charmed contest and readers will be taken on a journey of best friends to lovers that will make your heart skip a beat rooting for them to open up their eyes and hearts to that something more.

That being said... Once a Charmer is not my favorite of the series. While I love the push and pull of being afraid to move forward in a relationship changing the dynamic of what you are used to, I hoped for more conversations, more heart to heart, more romance, more heat when it came to Allie and Bash. I just wanted more. Their scenes together are electric and spark but I wanted them to stop beating around the bush, second guessing everything—I wanted to feel more! Hopefully I am making sense.

Despite this, I LOVE THIS SERIES and Lovelace's writing and this town has grown to be something like family to me that I just can't get enough, I want the happily ever after for all. I can't wait to see whose story is up next! xo

Another super cute read from Sharla Lovelace set in Charmed, Texas!

I loved the best friends to more premise and the undeniable friendship, love, and chemistry between these two. Bash and Allie have been friends since childhood and he’s been the one constant in her and her daughter’s life since she got pregnant as a teen. It was impossible not to root for them from the start.

Add in another visit to the super charming town of Charmed with all of the recurring characters from the previous two books in the Charmed in Texas series and you’ve got the perfect setting for a sweet yet passionate story.

Once a Charmer has all of the elements that made me love Sharla Lovelace’s writing. The quirky small town setting, great secondary characters, a very realistic and vulnerable heroine, a sexy honorable hero and an incredibly realistic romance sprinkled with just a touch of magic honey.

I can’t wait to read the 4th book in this series.

Originally reviewed at SmexyBooks-

Allie Greene grew up in Charmed, TX and runs the family diner-The Blue Banana-while raising her daughter, Angel, and helping to take care of her father who has dementia. Having lived in the same trailer park as Carman Frost (Lucky Charmed) she too was a victim of her classmates teasing and the town’s disapproval. Intelligent, forthright, and always in control, Allie is shocked when she learns her father used the diner as collateral on a loan and now the loan shark has come to collect. Only, he doesn’t want money…he wants the diner.

I own fifty-one percent

Oh my God

What did you do, Dad?

While Allie is trying to deal with the fact her livelihood may be taken away from her, she soon discovers through the grapevine aka the town pharmacist that her daughter may have a boyfriend and may be thinking about sex while the one person she wants to discuss all this with is avoiding her because of a spontaneous kiss.

Bash Anderson.

Bash is the town lothario and Allie’s best friend. He’s been at her side through thick and thin since high school. A father figure to Allie’s daughter and the local apiarist, Bash has his own problems, the main one being his attraction to Allie. He has always loved Allie but that love becomes sexually fueled after a shared kiss. However, she and Angel are the only family he has and they mean the world to him. He couldn’t survive losing them so he is trying his best to ignore his feelings and keep their friendship purely platonic.

“You and Angel are my family. I’ll always be there for you.

Once again, Lovelace takes us back to the small fictional town of Charmed, TX and brings us a funny, sweet, and satisfying friends to lovers romance between a single mother and her best friend in the whole wide world. Written in the first person, Lovelace tells her story through the eyes of Allie Greene-mother, father, daughter, caretaker, and business owner. Though touted as a romance, this story’s focus is more on all the different kinds of love in Allie’s life-her family, her friends, the town, her business-and how she deals with them. She has so many fingers in so many pies yet she handles it like a pro because she’s never had a choice not to. I especially enjoyed her relationship with her daughter. Firm but fair, Allie tries to be the perfect parent only to discover nothing about life or teenagers is perfect.

“In a month we can have this conversation.

“He may not still be intersted in a month.

“If he’s not interested in you in a month from now, then he’s not worth having. Oh sweet God, even as the words were flyng out of my mouth, I heard every old person I’d ever known.

There is a strong sense of isolation surrounding Allie even though she has a strong support system around her. She is reluctant to accept help from anyone because she learned early in life that no one ever stays. Her mother died and left her alone with a father who gambled away their savings and home. Her ex-boyfriend left her when he found out she was pregnant. The town turned their back on her when she needed them most. Even now she feels abandoned by her father because of his dementia. When push comes to shove, however, she lowers her guard and accepts the helping hands that have always been there.

“You’re Charmed family. We’ve got you.

Strong narrative, witty banter, and dynamic characters kept me thoroughly entertained as we watch Lovelace bring together this prickly couple. Lovelace has an engaging and humorous voice for writing about everyday people. Her dry wit infiltrates the storyline as does her understanding of human nature. Sizzling chemistry and emotionally ripe scenes help to put the romance in motion and convince the reader this couple has a chance.

“”What do you want to do?

“I want to hear your breath catch when I get close, I want to see your eyes go all dark and sexy when you touch me, I want to feel the growly sigh you make in your cheat when we kiss.

I only wish it had more one on one heart to heart. The subplots take up quite a bit of the storyline, causing a rush to wrap everything up at the end. There was that faint touch of paranormal that has been interwoven into the series that, in my opinion, was just a lazy out for Lovelace to take.

Once again Lovelace delivers readers a well rounded small town romance that will keep you laughing and swooning with pleasure.

I think I may have said this after every book in this series so far, but these Charmed in Texas books are everything that I love about small town romance. They consistently get the tone just right, capturing the quirky and fun secondary characters, the sweetness and bitterness of small towns, and that cozy way these stories can warm your heart when done juuuust right.

Once a Charmer is no exception. I fell so easily into this story, reacquainting myself with all the charm that Charmed has to offer, and basically immediately losing my heart to Allie and Bash. It was impossible not to find them both completely endearing, though I will say that I sort of wished I had felt more romance between them. I would have liked some more time spent exploring their recognition of feelings some flirty banter, some swoony dialogue. Though, what I did love is that we are given a relationship that has already been long established and a dynamic that is a sweet slow burn on top of a years old, steadfast friendship. It felt so authentic to me and I had no problem buying into their feelings for each other. It’s not that I doubted that there were strong feelings there, I think Ms. Lovelace did a phenomenal job of painting that picture for us in past and present tense but I missed a bit of that “falling-in-love feeling sometimes.

That said? The story here felt way bigger than a romance. There’s an air of magic laced through each of these stories and that is something I’ve come to completely adore. I also adored the relationship between Allie, Bash, and Allie’s daughter Angel, who - speaking of authentic writing - could not have been a more true-to-life character. The dynamic between this unconventional little family completely stole my heart with its sweetness, while also ringing completely true in that it wasn’t always pretty. The moments they spent functioning as a family were some of the sweetest for me in this book, and went a long way toward making up for some of that “falling-in-love that I felt like I was missing.

In all I could not be more happy that I took a chance on a new-to-me author at the start of this series. These books are a complete delight to read, a balm for my world weary heart, and completely satisfying. ~ Shelly, 4 Stars

It's official, Sharla Lovelace has made it to my favorite authors list. I read Lucky Charmed a while back and thought it was insanely good. Like, it was so good that I added it to my favorites shelf on ŷ. Then I saw Once a Charmer and I just simply couldn't bring myself to miss out on a Charmed in Texas novel.

Although I don't remember Allie and Bash starring in a lot of scenes in Lucky Charmed, I do remember that scene in which Dean went berserk on the squad and Allie went in to save the day then Carmen suspected something going on between them. Yeah, well I was a goner ever since.

The first couple of chapters made me laugh out loud. Especially that scene where Angel oh-so-innocently tells Bash that her mom has been having bad dreams -about him. VERY bad ones. That was super hilarious.

OH MY GOD Carmen talking about Lange with Allie and calling him MP with a straight face was the most hilarious thing ever. (MP is apparently Man Purse. Ugh that girl code)

Balie just fixing things up like a fairy godmother literally cracked me up! Then when Angel told the girls that Aaron has been really quiet and was taking 'a cooking class'. And Allie just coincidentally remembering Sully telling her that he brought Balie to see her father and 'that other stop'.

That town is the definition of crazy. But this series has genuinely become the absolute best small-town romance series I've ever come across. There's something to be said about how the townspeople stood up to Allie, Angel and Bash that night they got into a fight with Vonda. And then that unconditional sister love between Allie, Carmen and Lanie.

I don't know what to say about Bash other than that his love for Angel was the hottest thing ever. Okay that might sound screwed up, but seriously. He isn't even her father. The time he ran away pissed off because she blurted out exactly that shows how much she actually means to him.

And him freaking out over every single thing Aaron did was just so friggin sweet.

Let's not forget the 'big gesture' at the end which I'll never forget even if I wanted to. That was brave on so many levels. And incredibly swoon-worthy.

Overall, I loved this series since I read the first page of Lucky Charmed which was the first Sharla Lovelace book i read. This book, though, made me fall head-over-heels for the Charmed in Texas series. I'm pretty sure Ms Lovelace has become my second (ever) auto-buy author, which is something big for me. I don't even need to read her next book's synopsis to buy the book. Her writing style is hilarious, sweet and so genuine. The perfect combination, if you'd ask me.

Once a Charmer by Sharla Lovelace
Charmed in Texas #3

Sebastian “Bash Anderson is a beekeeper with big plans that were somewhat foiled in book two of this series. He spent time in the military just out of high school but has settled into Charmed, Texas and is growing his business. His best friend Allie Greene and her daughter Angel are close as family to Bash and have been since Angel’s birth. The BFF are there for one another through thick and thin BUT a kiss between them a few months before this book begins has put a glitch in the easy flow of their friendship that fifteen year old Angel doesn’t help much as she begins to act out a bit.

This story is more than a friends to lovers themed book. It has a pageant to win, a bad guy to foil, businesses to save, a date gone wrong and a few that go right, a man with magic at his fingertips and love true love to be found. This is a story of family, of community, of friendship and oh so much more. I thoroughly enjoyed it and believe you will, too. I hope there will be more books in this series and eagerly wait to find out who might star in the next book by this author.

Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington-Lyrical Shine for the ARC This is my honest review.

I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!

For those that follow my reviews it is no secret that I am "charmed" by this series. A series set in a small quirky town called Charmed with numerous characters who are less than charming. This story is the third in the series and perhaps my favorite thus far. Although it can likely be read on its own I would recommend reading the whole series as it is quite good.

This story is a little less humorous than the others and a lot more emotional. I loved the premise of two best friends who have seen each other through some serious life challenges realize exactly what they mean to each other. This gave the story depth and made me emotionally invested.

The character of Allie was identifiable in the fact that she was an everyday hard working girl trying to do the best for her daughter whom she had as a teenager. Then you have Bash who loves said daughter unconditionally (even though he gives some tough love) and is the knight in shining armour for the two.

It was easy to see why Allie and Bash were hesitant to act on their emotions as they had a lifetime of friendship that they did not want to throw away. It made me cheer out loud for them and hope for a positive outcome.

Returning to the town of Charmed, while there are still some unlikeable characters in this story, the reader gets to see the good side of the townsfolk as they stick together to protect their own. I liked this and coming from a small town I know how people can band together for the greater good. Also, not to be forgotten, there is still some characters with some unexplainable gifts or talents for lack of a better word that adds to the dimension of the story.

I hope that this series continues although I do not know who the next story could center around. Perhaps Kia? She is a mysterious character who could most likely hold her own in a story. Thank you Lovelace for providing me with a series I have truly enjoyed!

3.5 stars rounded up to 4 stars

While I enjoyed this book, I felt that in the end, the book was rushed. Ninety percent led up to Allie figuring out that life is worth living, and being with Bash wouldn't bring the world crashing down on her.

I live in Small Town America and I relate to the feelings that Allie has and not wanting to give people reason to talk about her or Angel. What I find hard to believe is that she doesn't date at all since she had her daughter.

Small towns forgive, people forget and just like in the book, we take care of our own.

One of my favorites from Charmed Texas- friends to lovers. Bash and Allie have been friends forever and never wanted to jeopardize that until "that kiss". Allie has always been busy with raising her daughter, running the local diner and helping her father that has dementia. Bash owns a beehive company and his life revolves around Allie and her daughter.

Love these characters and the quirky town of Charmed Texas, genuine and fun loving. Many laugh out moments. I highly recommend this story, along with the rest of the other stories set in Charmed

I don’t know how it’s possible, but I’m convinced that each installment of the Charmed, Texas series just gets better and better.

Sharla Lovelace has created in Once a Charmer just about my perfect romance. It’s funny. It’s magical. It’s sexy. It’s sweet. And, sometimes it’s irreverent.

From the first book in this series to this one it has been a wonderful ride that has kept me entertained laughing, chuckling and smiling the whole way through. The author gives you excitement with a little mystery and some downright hilarious moments. This is one story I had no trouble relating to since my husband and I were best friends long before we started dating. I went through a lot of what Allie did not wanting to lose my best bud and afraid to take that next step. There are a lot of what ifs that must be weighed out before you can make a jump like this. Angel is so much a teen girl but really funny as she gets her mother in hot water more than once. Although this was a very fun read that makes you laugh there are some very touching heartbreaking ones that keep you on the edge. One with Angel that any mother can relate to and most would have liked to have killed when this plays out. Balie adds so much to this story as he has the touch that really complicates issues but at the same times makes things work out. Whatever you do don’t let this man touch you unless you are ready for a wild ride of mystery that is life changing. Lange I didn’t care for and felt he deserved what he got he was a totally DH …well you get the picture.

My heart went out to Allie living in a small town and having a baby so young, unmarried, having the town look down on her was just heartbreaking. Having gone all the way with just one male ending with a baby on the way turned her into a lose women that she just felt she never could overcome. She has built her life around this walking the line and never enjoying life. As life takes a turn she finds Bash is all she thinks about. In the last book of this series she runs to him when she thinks he might be killed and lays a lip lock right on him. This is where this book starts off with the fallout from that wild, sexy kiss.

Bash is hanging by lose ends not knowing how to deal with it all. OH yes he has the hots for one sexy best friend but since the kiss he is finding it hard to find a norm. One sexy man on the loose trying to play it cool just isn’t cutting it. One mess after another falls at his feet but the one thing that never changes is Allie and Angel are his family and he would kill to keep them safe. I love how protective he is of them and how he deals with Aaron what just sweet, loving and so dang funny. Angel does break his heart but when push comes to shove they make a wonderful team that can’t be broken.

It was a pleasure watching these characters dance around each other as the town watches why pushing and pulling them. There is no secret that these two have chemistry they seem to be the only one who doesn’t know the lay of the land. I really enjoyed the romance, the mystery and how the town reacts when things come to a head. I loved the ending and the humor Bash adds to it. The buildup of the romance is hot, delightful and smooth. I just loved when they finally come together with left steam on my glasses. This is one author that charms her way right into your heart from the little town to the wonderful characters in it. You laugh with them and at times you cry with them. A lot of thought went into writing this series bring you humor, love, mystery and giving you heart stopping moments. I really doubt you can read it and not laugh yourself silly at some point. I cannot wait to see what the next book brings I know it will be full of delight, heartbreak and humor.

Frustratinly Beautiful!! I LOVED this story! I am not normally a fan of best friends turned lovers but this story was so much different than the usual, it had me enthralled. This story is beautifully written and it was easy for me to get swept up in all the feelings the characters were going through. There are also some really fun parts the had me LOLing throughout. This is my favorite story so far in this series!! Highly recommended!!

The Charmed in Texas series has gotten better with each offering. The first book was good, the second better, but I absolutely loved Once a Charmer. And that’s saying a lot because I don't usually enjoy the friends-to-lovers trope.

What made this work for me though, were all the other plates our heroine was doing her best to keep spinning throughout the book, making this a story about Allie’s whole life and not just her love life.

Allie Greene has lived in Charmed, Texas her whole life. Her parents owned and ran the local diner, and now it belongs to her. Well, sort of. She just found out her dad, who had a bit of a gambling problem throughout her childhood, used the diner as collateral a couple years ago and now the loan shark has decided to collect on his 51% ownership. And she can’t even take her anger out on her dad because he’s fighting Alzheimer’s.

The next spinning plate is Allie’s fifteen year old daughter, Angel, who she gave birth to when she was 17. As someone who survived the years of a teenage daughter, the pages with Allie and Angel on them were my favorite. Sharla Lovelace did a fantastic job portraying the joys and struggles of being a mother. Teenagers are fun, and funny, and a blast to be around on one day. But the next? You want to strangle them. (Remember the line: “I brought you into this world, I can take you out? Yeah, that.) The banter between mother and daughter were hilarious and the portrayal of the mother/teenager daughter relationship is so incredibly accurate!

The other spinning plates are the wacky town of Charmed, and Bash Anderson, the one person who has been there for Allie ever since Angel came into the world. In the first two books we learn that a new entertainment complex is being opened in Charmed. To celebrate the opening the town is holding a festival and naming a King and Queen for the year. It’s a joint title, and Bash and Allie are paired for the contest. As per usual in this quirky town, hijinks ensue and hilarity follows. What also happens is Bash and Allie start to take a look at how they really feel about each other and explore the possibility of being more.

I don’t know if I’ll ever really understand the whole “I don’t want to mess up the friendship we’ve had for so long by having a romantic relationship thing that the friends-to-lovers trope is built around. I don’t enjoy that plot because we have to spend too much time reading about how “they don’t want to lose what they have and “becoming lovers will ruin everything...yada yada yada. Aren’t you supposed to be friends with someone you marry? So yeah, this trope just doesn’t make sense to me. But I read this book anyway because Allie played a prominent part in the previous books, and I wanted to find out what her deal was. And also to see her find a happily-ever-after.

Bash and Allie’s relationship was a bit on the angsty side. Things are awkward between them, but then they’re okay. Then it gets awkward again. Then okay. Throw in a fifteen year old girl who you are kind of co-parenting with, and things get complicated. But it was sweet to see things play out between them. And the grand gesture at the end from Bash to Allie? Loved it!

As with the previous two books, the story is narrated by the heroine. Which leaves me feeling like I don’t know the hero as much as I would like. I want to know his thoughts and his feelings, but the only thing you get are his words and actions as reported by the heroine. It’s my only complaint about this book (all of them, actually) because everything else about the story (and series) is delightful. Once a Charmer is the final book in the Charmed in Texas series, and I’m truly sad to see it end. These were feel good, heartwarming stories that I thoroughly enjoyed reading, and the best one was saved for last!

Allie Greene and Bash Anderson have been best friends for years, but lately Allie has been thinking of Bash as more than just her friend. With things getting weird between her and Bash and Allie's livelihood threatened because of something foolish her dad did, Allie doesn't know what she'll do. Yet, when she finds herself partnered with Bash for the town's Honey King and Queen contest, they become closer than ever to the point where Bash will put their friendship on the line for them to become more. Will Allie break his heart or will she realize that her best friend is her Mr. Right?

Ms. Lovelace writes small town romances that are charming, filled with plenty of emotion that a reader can feel along with the characters, and this third book of her Charmed in Texas series was a wonderful and riveting read that made me laugh and made me want to cry because of not only what Allie goes through with Bash and their friendship being strained then moving to uncharted territory, but because of what is happening with Allie's livelihood and what happens to someone the hero and heroine love. The way this story started had me sympathizing with the heroine, because of something her dad did in the past that could cause her to lose something important to her. Will she find a way to get back what belongs to her?

As for the dialogue, it was well-written and very entertaining from start to finish, as the hero and heroine get their friendship back on track and then become so much more; the heroine deals with a complicated situation when it comes to her livelihood; and Allie deals with her daughter when it comes to life and love. Will the heroine's daughter listen to her advice? Will Allie's daughter finally realize that the heroine sees her as the best part of her life? However, there were also some really good light-hearted moments throughout this story, especially as Allie and Bash work together for the town's Honey King and Queen contest; and when Allie meets someone that can help her situation for the better.

Both the main characters were captivating and I loved how their relationship had it's up and downs, as they decide whether a relationship can work between them, and if they try and it doesn't, whether they can still be friends. Moreover, the heroine is strong, brave and I liked how protective she was of her daughter, as she wants better for her and doesn't want her daughter to end up in the same situation she did at her age. I also liked how feisty she was when it came to fighting for something that was important to her, even though it seemed hopeless in the way that things might not work out as Allie hopes. While the hero, he's hard-working, confident, doesn't back down from a challenge and I liked how protective he was of Allie and her daughter. They're family to him and he would do anything for them, which is proven by his determination to help her daughter when she gets herself into a spot of trouble.

Overall, Ms. Lovelace has delivered another fantastic read for this series where the chemistry between this couple was intense and undeniable; the romance took a while to move from platonic to physical intimacy, but was well worth the wait, as Bash shows Allie how precious she is to him; and the ending had me completely hooked, as Allie realizes that Bash is her Mr. Right and taking a chance on being with him is worth the risk of losing their friendship if things don't work out. I would recommend Once a Charmer by Sharla Lovelace, if you enjoy the friends to lovers trope or books by authors Crystal B. Bright, Stacy Finz, Kelly Moran and Cindy Kirk.

My Review:
Ooh, I am a sucker for a good friends to lovers story and this one was fantastic. Bash has always been gorgeous and personable. Even in high school, he would have been much to cool for Allie, except they worked at the diner together and became friends. He was the one person who stood by her when she got pregnant at seventeen. He even delivered her baby and they've been best friends ever since. Although they have flirted with something more a couple of times, they both treasure their friendship too much to really pursue a romantic relationship. They both realize their friendship wouldn't survive a romantic heartbreak.

But as this book begins, things are changing. In one of the previous books, Bash was in danger and the relief over him being okay meant Allie kissed him. Ever since then she's been having erotic dreams about him. Those nightly visuals are making it weird between the two of them. But there's a whole heck of a lot of other drama going on in their lives too which is straining their relationship, including Allie's 15 yo daughter who they both love and adore.

I loved the relationship between Allie and Bash. I love a good friends to lovers story. What I missed in this book though was his point of view. I really would have loved to have seen some of the story and emotions from his perspective. Because that wasn't there, I just didn't feel like I got to know him as well as I wanted to.

But Allie is awesome on her own, too. Honestly she's a bit of a mess. She's always felt like she's judged in this small town because she got pregnant so young, but I think she has a skewed vision of how the town really sees her. But it does feel like she's constantly on the verge of a nervous breakdown. And, well, she may be right about that because pretty much everything in her world that can go wrong is on the precipice of collapsing and she's not dealing with the stress too well.

This is the one thing I love about Sharla Lovelace's heroines...they feel real and vulnerable and so deserving of a break. And most of them haven't had many breaks.

This has been a great series and I really did love Bash and Allie's story! I highly recommend both it and the entire series. (Note: you can read any of the books as stand alones.)

I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.

Once a Charmer is utterly delightful from beginning to end. Sharla Lovelace once again perfects the small town vibe with this latest in her Charmed in Texas series. This time around it's Allie Greene's turn to experience a bit of love at the hands of the author and her lifelong friend in Bash suddenly or perhaps not so suddenly becomes the man of her dreams.

Both Allie and Bash are great at avoiding the obvious. There is no question their chemistry is off the charts yet for some reason neither of them can see it. With both of their professional lives in the balance due to a suspicious investor, instead of turning to each other like they normally would, these two stubborn souls choose to face their problems alone. Or at least not with each other. Great secondary characters in the form of those who have already had their stories told provide wonderful support for these two and the small town of Charmed surprises the formally scorned Allie with their need to protect their own.

I loved these two together and their mutual surprise at their attraction to each other after so many years in the friend zone was a joy to read. There are a ton of stops and starts and in true Sharla Lovelace fashion, they don't get their happy until almost the very end. But there is so much more here than just a love story and the gorgeous way the author describes Charmed, you can almost hear the bell jingling over the door at the Blue Banana while enjoying one of Nick's signature dishes. She knows how to write about a small town with respect and a whole lot of affection.

Once a Charmer is well worth your time and I can only hope there is much more to come for these well-written characters and the almost mystical town they call home. It is a pleasure to give this book a solid 4 stars!!

A solid 4 stars!

I LOVE BASH.

There. I said it. The man is basically every man I’ve ever loved rolled into one scrumptious piece of cheesecake. No, who am I kidding. He’s the whole cheesecake.

One of the reasons I love this author so much is because she has a gift where it comes to writing sexual and emotional tension that makes you literally hold your breath. The kisses (and the non-kisses) are just...WOW. The more explicit scenes aren’t awkward—they’re sweet and full of emotional tension that not a lot of authors have the writing chops to portray.

Another thing that I love: the characters are so well defined. I easily connected to Allie because I knew exactly what she was going through. A single mom with a teenage daughter, Allie had pretty much sworn off romantic relationships since she got pregnant (and ditched) at 17. Her character was so genuine, and her relationship with her daughter almost exactly mirrored the one I have with my own.

But seriously, Bash? He was totally the reason I couldn’t put this book down. I’m always in the market for a small town friends-to-lovers story, and this one definitely didn’t disappoint. He was a forever bachelor, but his relationship with Allie and her daughter were basically like a pseudo marriage from the start. He took care of both of them, and they were his family. It just took a little time (16 years) for him and Allie to figure their anti-romance crazy out.

Anyway, like I said—I couldn’t put this book down even when I tried (needed sleep, but I just kept reading). The end was a little quick but still satisfying. I would have liked an epilogue to show a glimpse of Bash, Allie, and daughter Angel in their new normal. But overall, I highly recommend reading this book because DAMN!

This book is a 3.75 for me, because while I found it quite good, it wasn't amazing.

Honestly, I normally wouldn't have picked up this book. The cover really reminded me of those books that 40-something year old women would "read" at their "book club" which is really just an excuse for them to gather around, gossip, and drink wine. Which while the book technically does have the plot of one of those cheesy romance novels Mom's pick up, it manages to still be fresh and fun thanks to the authors charm, and her quirkiness! The story was comical and even though the plot and some elements seemed outlandish, the way Sharla wrote them weaved seamlessly and I didn't find myself doubting it.

The characters were quite enjoyable, though I must admit I wasn't very fond of Allie's teen-like behavior in regards to her wet-dreams and teenage like fantasies about kissing (and doing more) with Bash. Lange was despicable but he provided a nice buffer for the story to move along, and I wish we saw more of Bailey, who managed to be my favorite character within his limited page space.

So then, if I have only praise for this book why only 3.75 stars? My main issue, was the writing style. Often times I didn't know what this novel wanted to be. It was like it tried being an erotic novel, a teen fantasy, a cheesy romance, and more all in one. I know this wasn't even a thought for most people but it bothered me a bit. But despite that, I still applaud Sharla on this good novel, I hope you continue Allie, Angel, and Bash's story in a follow up novel! If you do please let me know because I would love to read it!

Once a Charmer (Charmed in Texas #3) by Sharla Lovelace

M/F Friends to Lovers
Triggers: Gambling addiction
I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.

This is a great story about friends to lovers. Allie runs the local diner and has been trying to stay below the radar of her small town. Being the one who was the stereotypical small town teenage girl - the one who wound up pregnant and alone. While she never regretted her decision, she also knew that her town would never let her forget either. The one shining aspect of her life all these years was Bash. He stood by her and became her family.

Bash has not always wanted to be part of the small town. He left to find himself and came back. While he didn't have any biological family left, he was always going to have Allie and her daughter, Angel. He was the honorary uncle and he took that responsibility very seriously.

When Allie and Bash find themselves floundering in their relationship, they have to remember back when things were less messy. Their walk down memory lane and Bash's new building were amazing. Their connection and relationship was well developed.

I also loved that there was an aspect of stress from each of them from the same source, but for different reasons. I really liked that aspect. I thought that while they were struggling individually, this aspect of the story also helped them come back together.

Overall, this has been my favorite in the series, thus far. I can't wait for more!

As one of my favorite tropes, this is a friends-to-lovers story. Allie and Bash have been friends since they were seventeen, they’ve been through all the good, bad and ugly in their lives. They’ve seen each other at their best and inevitably at their worst. It was clear in the story that they both have been a little in love with each other from the start, it just had to take some teenage drama, money in trees and mysterious townsfolk with special powers to realize that.

Sharla Lovelace’s CHARMED, TEXAS series is just as the name suggests. Quite charming, with a dash of mystique that, what can I say, I liked very much. Characters are what you’d expect from a small town romance. Everyone knows everyone else and they naturally meddle in each other’s business. But they do it in such a way that not only can you not get irritated, you actually find yourself envying the kind of camaraderie. Probably being only the reader helps but still. It’s nice.

I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone who loves small town romance, who likes friends-to-lovers stories, or when one part of the couple comes with a teenage daughter. Or, you know, if you like romance in general. Such a sweet, sweet romance. I honestly don’t want to run out of residents of Charmed, Texas. Send more people in, keep an eye out for those who could use a happily ever after, please.

This series has been just charming. When a book has me mad, angry then laughing and crying then I know it's been exactly what I needed. Sharla Lovelace's writing is so powerful that you want to reach right through the book and punch people! Then, I want to reach out and hug others!

Allie Greene was such a strong and powerful woman who saw herself as a the young teenager with a a father with a gambling problem and her as a young unwed teen. Bash Anderson saw the true woman Allie was- is- and loved her and her daughter like his own. How do you have a close, lifelong friendship with the one your heart desires and not lose it? You take a leap of faith! Things aren't so easy for Allie and Bash but I never rooted for two people more to find one another.

There are other things I love about this book/series. The community is written so "charmingly" that I want to find this place on the map and visit. The friendships with Lanie and Carmen are precious and supporting even when Allie doesn't realize they are there. The men of this group are strong and supportive. I especially like the story of the money in the trees and good old Mr. Bailey!

I like this series by Sharla Lovelace and I really enjoyed this book. This was a wonderful, sweet, funny, heartwarming friends to lovers romance that takes place in that awesome small town of Charmed Texas. Throw in an odd pageant event, some teen angst and drama, some seriously steamy moments and some other quirky moments and interesting characters for sure and color me hooked.
I really like Bash & Allie because they are very relatable characters who are not perfect but are definitely perfect for each other yet they have been dancing around each other for quite a while now. I loved watching their friendship finally turn that corner. Talk about hot and steamy!! They have such an incredibly strong friendship that was truly bonded when Bash delivered Allie's baby at age 17. They are both so worried about messing that up and the implications that could have on them and Allie's 15 yo daughter Angel that they almost don't give into their growing romantic feelings for each other but I'm so glad they did!
There were so many enjoyable moments in this book and I highly recommend this series!

This is the third book in the Charmed in Texas series and the second book that I have read and certianly feel that this could be read on a stand alone basis. For me, this book falls under single mother/friends to lovers/small town romance tropes.

I have to say I really enjoyed this book. It's told in the sole POV of Allie and as a general rule, I much prefer dual POV but it this case and I didn't mind it all. I found myslef invested in this story from the get go and it really held my attention throughout. Of course, I somewhat knew where the story was going but it didn 't feel cheesy or predictible. I feel that Sharla Lovelace has really set the scene for the small town of Charmed and delivers a real range of supporting characters that help pad out out the story. This was a really well paced read. It had chuckles and comedic moments but it also packed a nice emotional punch. The characters are well rounded and though out and this is one I would definitely recommend.

I was provided with a copy of this book from the Publisher via NetGalley; there was no inducement or obligation.

Allie Greene and Bash Anderson have been best friends since high school, but lately Allie has been having sex dreams about him which is seriously messing with their relationship. She has a teenage daughter who is growing up a little too fast, and her diner is in some financial difficulties, so she doesn't have time for this. Bash has always considered Allie and her daughter as family, but he has his own issues with finances in his bee-keeping operation which doesn't give him a lot of time to figure out why things are so weird between them now.
On top of it all, Allie and Bash have been nominated for Honey King and Queen; the prize money would go a long way to solving some of their money issues.
I loved this romance. Allie and Bash have the perfect best friends to lovers story. She's just trying to keep it all together while denying that her feelings for him are a lot stronger than she wants to admit. My one quibble is that we never got Bash's POV. I think that would have made this a 5 star instead of the 4.5 I'm giving it. Without his POV, it was hard to see how he felt about Allie and why he seemed to be hesitating. Still, I'm enjoying this series about Charmed, Texas.

Allie and Bash have been friends for years, but after one kiss Allie can't stop thinking about him as more than a friend.

The first two books in the Charmed in Texas series are among my favorite reads from this year. So, I went into Once a Charmer with high expectations and I wasn't disappointed!

At their heart the books in this series are about romance. However, the author weaves in family, friendship, and a little bit of the supernatural. In all three books I think the friendship between Lanie, Carmen, and Allie is my favorite part.

Allie is a strong character and good mother to her daughter Angel. The armor she puts on each day to deal with a town who wasn't always supportive doesn't feel fake or contrived. You understand her pain and frustration.

I love small town stories and this one carries through some characters and plot threads from the first two, but can easily be read as a stand alone.

I highly recommend this book and the whole series!

What can go wrong will go wrong. This poor single mother is being bombarded from all sides by problems of every nature. Even her nights aren't restful because she is haunted by vivid, graphic sex dreams starring her best friend, the only man in her life she had felt she could count on. Just when it seems things may be turning in the right direction, everything falls to pieces again. Many ups and downs. The author never explained why the mysterious Mr. Bailey was able to make one brief trip to town and cause the villain Lange to give up everything and leave immediately when the only thing he said to Lange was, "We have a mutual friend, Oliver Greene."

I did not realize so many words could be written about kissing. I won this book on ŷ. Admittedly I am not familiar with this genre, but penning hot sex scenes does not excuse a writer from the use of correct grammar in the narrative. I have rated the book three stars; however, compared to general fiction, I would rate it two stars.

I received a copy of this in a ŷ giveaway and have not let it affect my review.

This was a cute story, but such an unusual choice to have a romance with single person POV. It made it more like women's fiction to, as the reader, have the same uncertainty as the heroine about the hero's feelings. Allie did have a lot going on, dealing with family issues and parenting, but I prefer getting both sides of the story, as it were.

I am not a parent, but I was a teenage girl once. I enjoyed Allie and her teen daughter Angel together, though I found the climactic incident too over the top. Angel and Bash also have a really sweet relationship that helps ground the rushed, overly neat ending.

And I enjoyed the fact that the heroine was a business owner of a diner. Even though I feel sometimes she was a bit dim, she demonstrated maturity in tackling all different kinds of responsibilities.

It's a cute small town story, and worth checking out if elements like single mom or friends to lovers are tropes you enjoy.
