For U.S. Navy SEAL, Bowie “Ruckus Cooper, going on a mission into the most dangerous place on earth wasn’t new, neither were the orders to tag and bag an international criminal, but when Bowie finds a captive American reporter, that wasn’t exactly run of the mill. Neither was getting separated from his team, teaming up with her or protecting her against all odds, while working to keep his hands from around her neck and off her delectable body.

Fearless and bold photojournalist, Dana Sorenson never backed down from a fight or to showcase her dedication to reporting on the human condition. That’s what she thought until she meets Bowie and big, bad, and tough takes on a whole new meaning. Gratitude for saving her ass gets lost in his demanding orders and fighting for her life takes a back seat to falling for this alpha male who’ll risk everything to see her safe.

4.5 - "This has to be one of my favorite cluster fucks ever." Stars!

Zoe Dawson begins her new SEAL Team Alpha Series with a bang. Ruckus; Bowie and Dana’s story was an adrenaline rush adventure from start to pretty much finish and I read it in one sitting.

I just got lost in this story, Lieutenant Bowie ‘Ruckus Cooper, and his team of SEAL’s are dropped into Columbia on what is expected to be a quick in and out collection of an infamous Los Piratas drug lord. Things start to go awry when the first person they come across in his house is an American reporter. Dana and her crew unbeknownst to Ruckus and his team, have been held hostage, and basically their mission becomes one of rescue, rather than retrieval.

"No one is going to harm you unless I ain’t breathing"

Best laid plans, as you would expect go massively awry in this one, and Ruckus finds himself separated from his team with Dana in tow, and them both on the run from the bad guys, and what follows is a couple of weeks of escape and evade capture, in the inhospitable jungles of Columbia.

"You are a tough little wild cat."

It doesn’t take long for the sexual tension between these two too reach boiling point, and in-between dodging bullet’s, jungle wildlife, and general mayhem the author managed to insert some pretty hot sexy-times between them.

"If we weren’t out in this jungle with all these bastards after us, a package to pick up and a mission to complete, I’d have you holed up somewhere for a freaking week"

Zoe managed to take two pretty strong personalities in Dana and Bowie, but showed their vulnerabilities and weaknesses really well even in the heat of battle. Both of them are dealing with past demons and the journey they take together although dangerous and stressful, also pushes both of them to look at the issues they have tried to bury.

Outside she was strong and confident. Inside she was lost... Like him.

The extreme situation also pushes the emotional connection between them to full strength and it was great to have the dual POV so you were in both their heads as things progressed.

"Just so you are aware. I don’t do fluffy and sunny"

"Nope. Got that, Mr. Grumpy."

If you like your romance with a side of adventure, and a sexy SEAL Team of secondary characters then this one will be right up your street. I cannot wait for the next book in the series Kid Chaos to be released next month, the author has set everything and everyone up really well with Ruckus and I am looking forward to going on more adventures with the guys over the coming months/years.

ARC generously provided by that Author, and it was my absolute pleasure to provide the above honest review.

Quick Info
Standalone/Cliffhanger?: Standalone
Part of a Series?: Yes

Meeting the Characters
Dana Sorenson
Bowie “Ruckus Cooper

What happens?
Dana is a reporter, in Columbia reporting on the story of unrest in the country. It goes south when she is kidnapped and then rescued by a SEAL "Ruckus". They end up having feelings for each other.
Final thoughts
I don't get why its such a high rated book, I was bored and I didn't get the sex scene during the first bit, like it came to me out of no where. I didn't sense any chemistry the only thing I got was it was because they were in a dangerous situation together.
Would I read again?: Nope
Would I read this author again?: I have another book but I don't know if I'll read it.

Very Enjoyable Read

I enjoy reading a lot of romantic suspense books, especially those involving the military. This book was much more to my liking because it didn't include unnecessary and completely excessive graphic sex. The graphic sex in a lot of other books seems like filler because the writer didn't have enough actual storyline. This book included sexual scenes, but not gratuitous graphics. Plus there was plenty of actual storyline, emotional content as well as action packed suspense. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who likes military romance or romantic suspense books.

What a great start to this new series! Ruckus and his crew are SEAL brothers who find themselves on a mission to take down a target, Hector Salazar, who is a drug lord in Panama. What the team doesn't expect to find is a fiesty reporter and her team in the drug lord's house. Dana is writing a human rights story and it's near and dear to her heart since she is doing it for her mom. When Ruckus and his team rescue her, she is definitely not a damsel in distress. The chemistry between Ruckus and Dana is hot and you can feel the tension between them from the first time they meet. Their journey out of the jungle is a non-stop action story. The story is well written and keeps you on the edge of your seat. I loved watching Dana weasel her way into Ruckus's heart. He never knew what hit him. Ruckus and Dana both helped each other to let go of the past so they could be each other's future.

I loved the set up of meeting the team, too. I can't wait to see each of these alpha men meet their match as their stories are told. Great romantic suspense! Loved it!

Bad -Spoiler alert

I just couldn’t get through it. I put my Kindle down to many times to count and I’m only on 37%. Now when you’re running from the bad guys and you stop to have sex, that’s ridiculous. I gave up.

This was a really enjoyable story. Ruckus and Dana are both characters I really liked and their story was fast paced and very enjoyable. This is the first story I've read by this author and I liked it well enough that I'm likely to read more of her work in the future.

Dana is a human rights reporter that travels around the world. Dana has a boyfriend but rarely sees him because she's traveling so much. Dana's father is still alive but her mother died from cancer recently. Dana's mother's dying wish is what prompts Dana's current trip. Info about cheating since she has a boyfriend

Ruckus is a Navy SEAL and has been for 20 years (since he joined at the age of 17). Ruckus' father was abusive and he didn't have a good childhood. Thankfully, Ruckus found a home in the SEALs and bothers, not by blood but by something deeper. Ruckus was married once and it didn't go well so he has no intention of trying a relationship again.

Dana's story takes her into dangerous territories in foreign counties, in areas where drug lords rule rather than a government. Dana is finishing up her story and on her way out when she and her team are captured and taken captive by a bad guy with an agenda. As luck would have it, Ruckus and his team are sent on a mission that puts them in the building where Dana and her team are being held. Ruckus' team rescues them but Ruckus and Dana are separated from the rest of the team as they are all seeking to escape the bad guys. Due to some issues, Ruckus and Dana are left on their own for a while.

The attraction between Dana and Ruckus is immediate but on the back burner because of the danger they're in at first. Ruckus is rough and tough and saves Dana's life multiple times as they're trying to escape their pursuers. Dana is no slouch and does what she can to help and not be a hindrance as they go. There are reasons that Dana wants to stick with Ruckus on his mission and she holds info that he needs so they end up together longer than might normally be the case. In a few periods of safety, things between Ruckus and Dana escalate and between their attraction and their situation, they get real close, real fast. The story is very quick paced and action packed and there's plenty of danger they get through but there is a bit of drama too. Ruckus does have a bout of relationship dumbassedness that causes a split once Dana is safe and the mission is done. Thankfully, he does realize his dumbassedness and does what's necessary to make it up to Dana so they're together and headed towards and HEA in the end (with an epilogue to ensure it).

This was a really enjoyable story. Dana is a really good and believable character. She's strong willed and in shape so she can keep up but she's not a badass like Ruckus is (which I wouldn't see as believable). Ruckus was a good guy and I liked him a lot...a bit damaged but good none the less. Overall, this was a very fast paced, engaging story that I really enjoyed with characters I liked very much so I would recommend it. :D

* note - I listened to the audio version of this story and the narrator did a very good job.

Ruckus by Zoe Dawson
Book #1: SEAL Team Alpha Series
Source: ARC from author and purchase
My Rating: 4½/5 stars
My Review:

Getting out of tight situations, dangerous situations is what Ruckus has done for the better part of his adult life. As leader of SEAL Team Alpha, Ruckus has honed his mind and body to withstand and thrive in conditions most people would buckle under in an instant. His team is his family and their safety his primary concern. Until Cupcake, nothing has ever gotten in his way, clouded his judgement, or compromised a mission. Until Cupcake.

Dana Sorenson has spent her life trying to live up to the example set by her parents. Her mother selflessly gave of herself through Doctors Without Borders and her dad held down the fort at home, always ready for the return of his girls. Dana’s parents loved generously and without condition and often in the service of others. To that end, Dana’s current assignment in the armpit of Hell is the fulfillment of a final request from her mother, tell the story of the people who are suffering. With a small crew and a few “permission slips that will mean nothing once the shooting begins, Dana finds herself the prisoner of a madman and all her footage and data stolen.

The arrival of Ruckus and his team is a sight for sore eyes and a welcome surprise, but Dana is having none of them sending her home without her footage and materials. She knows where the team can find their “real target and she’ll be happy to tell them as long as she’s allowed to tag along and recover her property. Thus begins, Operation Cupcake.

Ruckus isn’t pleased with his new “teammate, especially once they’re separated from the rest of the team, but even he has to admit, she’s scrappy and able to keep up with him. Cupcake, as Ruckus refers to her, has a smart mouth, a quick mind, and a fearlessness he has rarely encountered outside of the SEALS. She’s sexy as hell and one of the few women ever able to break through his prodigious defenses. Thanks to a truly awful childhood and some epically failed relationships, Ruckus doesn’t easily trust, but again and again, Cupcake proves she can be trusted and even liked. Though he doesn’t want to like her or betray her, Ruckus has a job to do and part of that job is seeking her safe return to the US, with or without her property.

The Bottom Line: Quite frankly, Zoe Dawson is just too good to fall into the traps of the typical first in a series book. Ruckus starts out hard and heavy and it doesn’t let up for a single minute until the very end! Ruckus is by far my favorite character in this read and I thoroughly believed in his quiet aggression, his nearly silent strength, and overt sexiness. Ruckus tends to let his actions speak louder than his words and I LOVED what he had to say. Dana is a strong character, but she took time for me to really warm up to. To be completely honest, I am not a fan of reporters so I went in with a bit of a bias against Cupcake. With that being said, Dawson has created a completely atypical reporter character and I completely appreciated that effort. Sure, Dana wants her property back and wants to tell her story, but her mission is more about fulfilling a promise to her beloved mother and not scooping another reporter or trashing people for the sake of a juicy story. Once I recognized the alignment of Cupcake’s priorities, I warmed up to her nicely. Finally, in addition to Ruckus and Cupcake, there is the rest of Team Alpha who don’t play a huge role in this read, but make enough of a splash to let the reader know, this is going to be one slammin series!

A favorite theme in suspenseful romances is for the heroine to be stranded with the hero in precarious circumstances, and Zoe Dawson brings this scenario to life with ever-increasing peril and a spirited couple. Danger can crop up at any moment in RUCKUS, and I never knew what the outcome would be or if someone would be harmed. Situations could escalate in a second, going from calm and nonviolent to terrifyingly perilous in an instant. My heart raced at times when physical threats loomed, while other incidents made me warm because of all the sexual heat generated by the main couple. Zoe Dawson captured my full attention all the way through the book, as action is swift and desire is expressed with honest feelings.

The latest assignment photojournalist Dana Sorenson has undertaken is very personal to her, and she plans to tell the plight of migrants traveling through the country of Columbia. Though the task will most definitely be risky, she will not let anything keep her from reporting on the trials of these determined people. All seems to be going well for Dana until she is kidnapped by a ruthless criminal in the area.

When Lt. Bowie “Ruckus Cooper is given his latest duty as a SEAL, he expects the mission to retrieve a drug runner living in a South American jungle to go as planned. Unfortunately, there is an unforeseen dilemma when an American reporter is discovered on the premises, and the SEALs must make certain she and those with her are rescued. But in the haste to escape the compound, Ruckus and Dana end up on their own. With the original mission still needing to be completed, working together to reach their own goals will not be without complications for these two strong-willed individuals.

SEAL Team Alpha is a series that has lots of danger associated with a soldier being in a unit where risks are the norm when on an assignment. Ruckus is proud to serve his country, and doing his duty has always been a top priority to him. But upon meeting Dana, his goals are not always clear. She keeps him confused, yet he is also happy in a way that is not usual for him. Becoming entangled with a cranky SEAL is not what Dana planned to do, but occasionally fate has other ideas. I thoroughly enjoyed watching these two interact, as their opinions gradually change from irritated to admiration. They both do plenty of soul-searching as their time together makes them see things differently, and I worried over what they would ultimately decide. Passion sometimes runs high, and Ruckus and Dana know how to make every minute count when control is lost. They both have some great amusing comebacks, too. RUCKUS is highly entertaining on every page.

As the story progressed, I got small glimpses into the lives of other SEAL team members. When facing a threat, these men know what to do and work exceedingly well together. During downtime, their banter is humorous and made me smile. Zoe Dawson had me believing all the facts about their missions, as actions and words came across as very authentic. I also felt as though I was right there in the jungle, as the author’s descriptive words are colorfully vivid. I am glad there are more books in the series, and I really hope each of the courageous men get to tell their own story.

I voluntarily reviewed the book and all comments are my honest opinion

Ruckus by Zoe Dawson
SEAL Team Alpha Series Book One
Lieutenant Bowie “Ruckus Cooper is on a mission. Tag and bag the bad guy and get out. Only, instead of finding the bad guy...they find a beautiful woman. A troublesome woman that is determined to get what belongs to her back from the bad guy. He doesn't have time for this. He's a SEAL...and a man.

Dana Sorensen has to complete her mission. She feels like she failed her mom once already so she needs to complete this job. A hunky but bossy SEAL isn't going to stop her either.

This new series is starting with a bang—in more ways than one—lots of fire power and lots of hunks. I'm looking forward to the next seven stories of the rest of this team. The author did a great job of showing off their personalities like Kid Chaos, he's young and truly likes causing chaos to help the team.

Moving and Thrilling

Ruckus and Dana meet in an hostile environment. As they fight for their survival the also fight their craving for one another. You can't help but root for their love. This story is so full of danger, action and comedy. Their lives are full of heartache. Ruckus is so sexy, so alpha but so runny so. You don't mess with someone he loves because he will bring a world of p ain on you. Seal Team 7 is full of gorgeous alpha males. They are loyal to each other. This is a must read. Can't wait for book 2

This book was so much more than what I expected it to be : it was complex, lots of suspense, twists, turns & thrills, it will keep you on the edge until the end, but wanting more....

I just loved the caracters, the complexity of all of them, they felt so real.

But be warned, it's addictive, once you start, you can't put it down and you will loose sleep over it...
It's absolutely worth it though !

And the huge bonus, there's a SEAL dog !!! It's a first for me : just love Echo <3

Can't wait for the next one to know what happens next and discover more about this awesome team!

Ruckus is the first in what I hope will be a LONG and fantastic series about a SEAL team and their rough-and-ready men who aren't afraid to take on any task, no matter how dangerous. When Bowie “Ruckus Cooper finds himself running solo with a rescued American reporter, he ends up fighting a war on both fronts - his desire for justice and his desire for her.

You'll never look at a cupcake again...

*grins*

Can't wait to read the second book in this series - if you're looking to add a hot and sexy read to your shelves, grab this and make room for the next and the next and the next!

Going on a mission in the jungle of the Gap is one of the most dangerous places to go, but for Ruckus and his team it wasn't the first time to have dangerous orders. So when they got the orders it was just another mission, but when do missions go as planned? During the mission they find and rescue a photojournalist and her crew, and that is just the start to where things go askew.

Ruckus is the first book in the Seal Team Alpha series. This book is a page turner. Be prepared to not want to put the book down. I highly recommend this book!

This book is interesting and intriguing just like you would expect any SEAL book to be. Story line was good. However, I didn't like all the vulgar language using the F word and such. I give Zoe Dawson credit and kudos though, not to many authors can pull this off. Because I really liked the story line, I'm hooked on the series now.
I do recommend this book for audiences 18 or above. Will I read the book again? Not sure but I'm hooked on the series. Look forward to reading the rest of the series in paperback.

I thoroughly enjoyed this Zoe Dawson's book. It was so much more than I expected. It had a great military story as well as getting into the very personal lives of the main characters. And, oh yes, it definitely had some super hot sex that might melt some of female readers' panties. I am so hoping each and every book in her Alpha series is as good. This is a voluntary review of an Advanced Reader Copy of the book.

Ruckus

Bowie "Ruckus" Cooper and Dana met by accident. He was going on to take down a different culprit when he found her. She was bossy and all knowing and would not listen to him trying to get her to safety. Their banter was great foreplay. Both had things in their past that kept them from moving forward. However, they were good for each other now if they can overcome the past. Action packed and a page turner.

New,author for me but was really good.

Great start to a new series - love me some HOT SEALS and Ruckus certainly fit the bill - "drop-dead gorgeous". I really had a love/hate relationship with Dana. Started that she really was only concerned with her wants and needs and didn't seem to care who she put in jeopardy. Through the twists and turns of the story she did finally redeem herself.
Can't wait to read Kid's story.

Action-packed, but 'love in the jungle' theme a bit over the top. Too many sub-plots making the book drag on at times: capture and escape, capture and escape; sex during capture and escape; resort living; childhood abuse and trauma; death of parent; bad marriages and relationships; and dare I forget, fighting to the death with caimans. All in a day's work.

What bothered me so much about this book is that she has a boyfriend!! Even though she doesn't love him, they haven't broken up officially yet! The 'boyfriend' doesn't love her either, but she didn't know that. She thought he was going to propose! It is still considered cheating for me.
Also 'instalove' is not my cup of tea.

Ms. Dawson is a new-to-me author recommended by a friend. I loved the team of Navy Seals. Loved the action and love scenes--yes, they were steamy, but they were also emotionally powerful. Ruckus and Cupcake (nicknames, obviously) were good for each other.
