Elle James owns the Romance with Mystery genre. There is no one better. This time we have a sweet, second chance romance and a couple who have to work together to get out of a very tight situation in the Sudan. Luckily, our hero is a Nave SEAL and our heroine is a doctor with Doctors Without Borders so they are smart, capable and have the courage to get out of a tricky situation. But, do they have the courage to say those three courageous words and mean them for a lifetime.
"Buck" Graham Buckner US Nave SEAL left behind his dreams when he fled Chicago and joined the Navy. He always regretted having to leave, but to save his life and the life of the woman he loved, he did.
Dr. Angela Vega always wondered why Graham just vanished leaving her with broken dreams and a broken heart. She finished her studies, became a doctor and swore never to have her heart broken again. She is now in Africa and it was the last place on earth she expected to meet Buck and the walls around her heart are beginning to crumble.
With a warlord on their trail and on a treacherous mission to find his camp so SEAL Team Six can put and end to him, Angela and Buck must trust and support each other in order to survive.
Elle James certainly seems to be knocking it out of the park with her mini-series set in Africa. So good to get out of Texas once in a while! This time, the actions moves to South Sudan, where the team has been sent to find warlord General Koku, who has been stealing children to populate his rebel army (remember all that Kony 2012 business? That's what it reminded me of.) Team member Graham "Buck" Buckner is shocked when he sees his former flame, Dr. Angela Vega, headlining a protest. He swoops in to rescue her as Kony - ahem, Koku is on his way. She works with Doctors Without Borders, and insists the team accompany her to get her nurse and other villagers to safety.
Circumstances see them trekking across South Sudan, as a boy that Angela assists has recently escaped from Kony's camp - ahem, Koku's camp, and he provides them with a startlingly accurate rendition of a 10 day journey through 5 towns, for a dehydrated 10 year old boy who has just had his broken arm mended without any painkillers. But anyway, Buck sees this as the team's chance to nail down Kony - ahem, Koku's location. Buck and Angela navigate South Sudan while confronting their Past Relationship - in medical school they were dating until Buck dropped out and ditched her without warning. (He was protecting her from gang members of a gang he was affiliated with or something).
The issue that plagued the previous books is still present in this one - these six guys are all completely interchangeable when they're together. I can't tell them apart. Sure, Buck gets more depth here because he's the main character - but it could have been any one of them! In the previous book, Buck was a total dick, constantly remarking to Pitbull that he'd take a shot at Marly if Pitbull didn't. But here, he's a there's-only-one-woman-for-me-and-has-been-ever-since-medical-school type of guy. Basically, Elle James could have thrown any one of the four remaining team member's names in there and it wouldn't have made a difference. They're all pretty much the exact same person, often talking the same.
However, this book did correct the previous book's issue, where the H and h barely even seemed to spend much time together. Here, Buck and Angela have to rely on one another while they travel through South Sudan and risk capture by Kony's men. Damn it, I meant Koku's men! There's also a bit of a threat from native wildlife, which always adds excitement!
Despite the quick 185 page length (here in Australia they pack two books into one volume, with small font), I still felt the padding at times. Buck and Angela would arrive in a town, see violence being committed against townsfolk. Buck would say, "We can't risk being seen," while Angela would go, "No, I'm a doctor, I have to help!" Rinse and repeat. Angela would be all, "You left me without a word and I never got over it!" Rinse and repeat. And after all the action is over, the book carries on for another good 15 pages when it didn't really need to. I suspect it was so the book could scrape through with 50,000 words.
Another quibble would be the casual racism on display. For example: "He smiled, his teeth the whitest part of his dark and dangerous face." That sort of description doesn't sit well with me. There's also the white saviour trope running through this, with all these poor Sudanese villages profusely thanking the white folk for coming through and bringing them rations and good health, etc etc.
Buuuuut, all those complaints aside, I can't really complain. The action and suspense kicks off right from the get-go and is pretty much sustained throughout the length of the book. Buck may be completely interchangeable with his other crew members, but his relationship with Angela was explored in some depth, and not just brushed over like would be the case in a Delores Fossen book. I felt they'd earned their happy ending. I'm looking forward to the next book!
A Navy SEAL romantic suspense by Elle James and Harlequin. Third in the Mission: Six series. Can be read as a standalone. The team will overlap in the romances. The full novel takes place on mission and then in a brief recovery. This is the pattern of the previous books. The adventures are all high octane where the stress of the action and mission help to encourage the connections and emotions of the couples. They must move, act or die trying. All with the overtone of self sacrifice and fighting evil while falling in love. Or back in love as the case may be.
Military romantic suspense that you will devour from beginning to end on the edge of anticipation. I want to know they will survive this relationship. While he is still in the Navy. It was nice to have the couple in the previous book mentioned a couple of times and fir her to show up at the end.
Elle, is such a consistent writer that is why I like to read her books. Her books are always a page turner and flow so good. She really knew what she was doing when she started to write as she is a proven wonderful one. Ella hit a home run with this!
1. One Intrepid SEAL Review: 5 stars I purchased a copy of the Harlequin Intrigue romantic military based suspense novel One Intrepid Seal: Mission 6 series book 1: Diesel and Reese by Elle James and this review was given freely. Drama and action packed from the start with some vivid violence and of course a touch of romance as it is Harlequin. This novel is a good introduction to the brotherhood of men in SEAL Boat Team 22 but focuses primarily on six of them: Diesel, Pitbull, Harm, T-Mac, Big Jake and Buck. When former Army captive, MMA fighter and now bodyguard Reese Brantley takes her first job to secretly guard the lecherous son of the Secretary of Defense,Ferrence Klein, during his diplomatic mission to the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Africa, they are kidnapped twice and only the US Navy's 10 man SEAL Boat Team 22 led by Texan Dalton " Diesel" Landon and private small plane pilot Marly Simpson can rescue them. 18+ contains vivid violence. Can be read alone but is best if read in sequence.
2.Two Dauntless Hearts: Review: 4 stars I purchased a copy of the Harlequin Intrigue steamy romantic military based suspense novel Two Dauntless Hearts: Mission 6 series book 2: Pitbull and Marly by Elle James and this review was given freely. An alpha SEAL with a vulnerable side. A little Murphy's Law, fate and a few surprises turn what was suppose to be a leisurely one week Kenyan, African safari on Talia Montclair's All Things Wild Safari & Resort into unexpected and violent encounters for the six SEAL Boat Team 22 members with a human trafficking and poaching ring. After two short mission flights, sharpshooter Percy "Pitbull" Taylor finds himself again on Marly Simpson's bush plane fighting his fear of heights and fixed-wing aircrafts while also fighting his growing attraction to former Virginian Marly. 18+ Contains vivid violence. Can be read alone but is best if read in sequence.
3.Three Courageous Words: Review: 4 stars I purchased a copy of the Harlequin romantic military based suspense novel Three Courageous Words : Mission 6 series book 3: Buck and Angela by Elle James and this review was given freely. An action and drama packed unexpected reunion in South Sudan with an abrupt but happy ending which ends where it began at the All Things Wild Safari and Resort. Tasked with stopping Sudanese People’s Resistance Army leader General Ibrahim Koku's reign of terror, mass massacres, and divergence of US aide, the six Team 22 members finds their safari vacation cut short and themselves protecting then rescuing Doctors without Boards' Chicago native Dr. Angela Vega who just happens to be Navy SEAL Corpsman Graham “Buck Buckner's long lost love. 18+ Contains some vivid violence and mildly steamy scenes. Can be read alone but is best if read in sequence.
This is the third book in the Mission: Six series about a group of SEALs, home based in Virginia, but sent world wide, wherever they are needed. This book follows directly on the heels of the last. The unit was enjoying R&R at the All Things Wild Resort in Africa, when they are send to Sudan to find General Ibrahim Koku, a warlord terrorizing the people of South Sudan. But before they can capture him, Navy SEAL Graham "Buck" Buckner spots his formal girlfriend, Dr. Angela Vega in danger on the street, leading a women's protest and grabs her. They were in medical school together, but to keep her safe from his former association with a Chicago gang, he ghosted and joined the navy. She was heartbroken, when he didn't even say goodbye and is now a member if Doctor's Without Borders. Now his mission is not only to eliminate Koku, but keep his woman and all the suffering villagers safe, and convince Angela that they can have a future together.
The book is fast paced, with skillfully developed characters and a real life scenario. While the UN spends most of it's time condemning Israel the only free nation in it's region, they ignore what is happening in Sudan. I also like that the author lists the "Cast of Characters" from this and the previous books at the begining of the book. I wish every other of a series would do this. It not only helps those readers who are new to the series, but is a good reminder to readers who have read the previous books, but several others books by other authors in between.
His mission is to get General Ibrahim Koku. "Buck" Graham Buckner and his SEAL team are in South Sudan to stop the warlord, Koku from stealing food and aid supplies that should be going to the refugee camps there as well as to stop his brutal torture and killing of the village people who try to stop him from taking their young sons for his army. He isn't there to meet up with his ex-girlfriend from his med school days. Dr. Angela Vega is working with Doctors Without Borders at a refugee camp in South Sudan. She certainly never expected to have Buck show up and save her life. She also never expected to join him on his mission to locate Koku's camp. Koku needs to be stopped once and for all. His killing and robbing have got to end.
Three Courageous Words is Author Elle James' third book in her Mission: Six series. Once again she incorporates lots of action from the beginning to the end of the story. Of course she also includes some steamy love scenes. The two main characters, Buck and Angela are both tough and determined. They may have changed a little from their med school days but their core values and character traits hang true. They just can't fight their attraction to each other. Perhaps neither one really wants to.
I really love to read stories written by Elle James. This is another great one.
>Book Review Three Courageous Words >I am an independent reviewer. This book is the 3rd in the Mission: Six series and ends in an HEA. Buck is a US Navy SEAL with a dark past. He had to leave his true love years ago, in order to keep a gang target off of her back. Angela was in med school with Buck and never knew why he left her. Once a bit of Buck’s backstory was told, I could understand his need to protect Angela, but why he had to leave without telling her didn’t make sense. Angela was already in the gang’s crosshairs. >Buck and Angela run across each other, quite by accident, years later in Sudan. Buck rescues her as she is trying to protest a lack of supplies for her Doctors without Borders. The story gets very exciting as Buck and Angela attempt to try and find the lair of an evil warlord. This story line is exciting, but heartbreaking as well. This warlord kidnaps young boys and brainwashes them to be in his army. In the news, this type of behavior happens in third world nations and is horrible. >I love how Buck and Angela find the good in their situation in the form of kindness among the people of Sudan, even as those same people are just fighting to survive. This book is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving this story 4 stars. There was a lot of action and romance, but the backstory with Buck and Angela needed some clarification.
Danger abounds as this SEAL team continues their mission! With the third book in her Mission: Six series, Elle James brings us Buck's story. He had a past that he was running from when he joined the service, and this mission runs him smack dab into the one person he regretted having to leave behind. The story is packed full of dangerous situations, sweet memories and a satisfying reconnection. Enjoyed it and looking forward to more!
While on a secret mission in Africa, Navy SEAL Graham "Buck" Buckner sees a familiar face in a situation that instantly terrifies him! He can't believe his eyes, but his college girlfriend who he left behind without even a goodbye when he had to go on the run is about to run into a group of terrorists. He has to get her out of there!
Dr. Angela Vega is with Doctors Without Borders at a refugee camp when she decides to march in protest with the locals to demand the resources that should have been coming to their camp. She is clueless to the danger about to cross her path, but even when Buck snatches her from the street, she's spitting mad and fighting against leaving her mission! Will he be able to accomplish helping the kids she has in her care while dodging the danger that's right on their heals?
I really like all the guys on the team. Buck walked away from medical school and Angela years ago. It cost him a lot to do it, but he did it for Angela. He joined the Navy and thought he would never see her again. Now, here he is in Africa and sees her organizing some women to protest. As he sees the danger coming for them, he pulls her out of danger. Even though she doesn't appreciate it. Angela thought she left Buck behind a long time ago. After all, he left her without a word. She is now a doctor working for Doctors Without Borders and is trying to help the people of Africa. Angela can't just leave all these people in need to save herself. The local warlord wants Angela to help him and will do everything to get her. When that happens, Buck and the team have to save her and all the boys the warlord kidnapped to grow his army. Will Buck get there in time?
Buck and Angela were college sweethearts that broke up abruptly and are thrown together half a world away. Bitterness and anger have to be put aside to ensure their safety and the safety of others. They have to learn to work together to stay one step ahead of the bad guys.
There were many aspects of this book I liked. I liked the interaction that Buck has with his team, the giving nature that Angela has for strangers and for wanting to make things safer for those she cares for.
However, there were parts that I had a hard time with. While I understand Angela's want to protect and help every living person out there, in some ways she was so reckless. She put herself, Buck, Buck's team and others in danger because she wasn't willing to let something go or to think rationally and not emotionally.
This was a entertaining read. I really enjoyed the characters and the plot. It's well written and had me engaged from beginning to end. I loved this second chance story between Buck and Angela. They run into each other in the Sudan in a crazy situation that throws them together in the midst of chaos. Buck and his team are there trying to take down a warlord and Angela is with Doctors Without Borders and is coming up against the same warlord. There is plenty of action and intrigue in this story to keep your attention along with the romance aspect. The romance aspect is really romantic considering the situation that they are in but it allows them to get to know each other again and it makes it so that neither can deny what is still there between them. I loved how the story was done. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Angela and Buck knew each other a while ago and then he up and left for the Navy. Its been awhile since they've seen eachother and managed to run into eachother in Africa where a warlord is terrorizing everyone. Both seem to have that flame between eachother but they've got a mission to work on find the warlord and take him down as well as keeping Angela safe.
This was a non stop action packed book with a bit of romance just the way I like it. I do mean it when I say that there was a bit of romance because it didn't take away that suspenseful action packed kinda thing that was going on in this book. They are in an unsafe area with a warlord wreaking havoc its hardly time to start a romane. There wa just enough to keep things interesting without taking away from that whole main objective. Overall a pretty good book I really enjoyed it.
Lots of action here, as our SEAL team is taken from their safari vacation to find a warlord who is creating child soldiers and stealing humanitarian aid and hoarding it for his private army. A small Doctors Without Borders clinic is attacked and a doctor there, Angela Vega, turns out to be a former classmate of Buck, the SEAL medic. They had been in love until he left without a word or a trace. His former gang had been threatening him and anyone he was close to, so he left. She was angry at him for never contacting her, but he had found the military life good for him, even though he had given up his dream of becoming a doctor. The team splits up, with Buck taking Angela to find the warlord's camp. They almost succeed but she is captured by the warlord's men and brought to be a medical resource. There is an HEA, even though it doesn't look likely.
I really enjoyed book 3 of the Mission Six books. This book has a very strong female character and the storyline is realistic. Having never been to the area where this story takes place I really enjoyed reading about the culture, even though at times it was appalling. I know it is probably more reality than fiction, but I hope there is a lot of fiction in it.
I hope we get to see more of these characters in future books. I enjoyed seeing Marley at the end of this book, but I hope we get some glimpses into more of their lives and not just a quick pop-in.
So far, this is my favorite book of the series, but I can't wait to see who can tame T-mac, Big Jake and Harm. Only time will tell who is up to that task.
Graham “Buck Buckner gets an unexpected second chance for a love he thought he’d lost years ago. Dr. Angela Vega thought her first love was long over when he comes charging back into her life, literally snatching her out of a potentially life threatening situation. So begins another compelling tale of the Mission 6 SEAL team.
This is an intriguing, suspenseful story, full of action and steamy romance. The narrative is fast paced and engaging. It flows effortlessly and will definitely keep your attention from beginning to end. The characters are strong and interesting, and the emotions are high. Each story can be read as a standalone, but the Mission 6 characters are integrated into the whole series. I highly recommend you read this story and the series!
Buck left Angela without a word years before, now he’s a SEAL in the middle of a mission and finds he’s unexpectedly trying to save her life in Africa, but she’s a doctor and has a mission there and people to help. He still loves her and wants a second chance. And so it begins.. I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book in return for an honest review. First I loved the list of characters at the beginning, so going in I wasn’t confused on who was who as they showed up in the book. And I do love military romance, and of course the whole bullets flying thing! This had everything romance, action, adventure, twists, turns and second chances. There was not a dull moment at all. Elle James did not disappoint at all!
Buck & Angela were in love during college in Chicago. They were both going to be doctors. Suddenly, Buck left without a trace. Angela finished her residency and started working in Africa for Doctors Without Borders. Buck became a Navy SEAL and, years later, is out with his team in Africa, looking for a warlord who murders, destroys, and steals children for his army. He runs into Angela, who is trying to help women and children who have been injured by this warlord. Buck has never stopped loving Angela but, Angela has hardened her heart against ANY pain like that, EVER again! I read this book in a few hours because I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN!!! Fast-paced, thrilling and, quite the page turner!!! Steamy, too!!! Go get this book! you WILL LOVE IT!!!
Three Courageous Words is one of the finest books I have read in the SEAL genre. It is not only action-packed but gives the reader the insight into the dangerous missions undertaken by SEAL teams. This story has suspense, romance, but more importantly, compassion for the downtrodden in war torn countries. The people in the poorest countries are aided by not only our military but by heroes from many walks of life: ministers, doctors, UNICEF and many selfless individuals. While this book is about U. S. Navy SEAL Graham "Buck" Buckner and Angela, a physician with Doctors Without Borders, Elle James captures the essence of good versus evil in such a way that you want to contribute in making the world a better place.
A Navy Seal Team are sent to Sudan to take out Koku, a vicious, inhuman, terrorist warlord. Things turn really bad when Buck, a team member, spots a group of women marching up the street. Leading the group is a familiar face. Buck, quickly goes after her because a group of vehicles are approaching. There he finds the woman he left to save her life ten years ago, Angela. She's a doctor with Doctors Without Borders and is deeply involved with the Sudanese people.
A determined Seal Team, a heated attraction, brutality, danger everywhere, extreme poverty, extreme thrust and hunger. This starts out strong and keeps your attention to the end.
I just finished Three Courageous Words by Elle James. The adventure never stopped; it was one exciting happening after another. I was totally sucked into the story of these brave characters. At one point, I wanted to go to the end of the book just to see what happened to a certain person. In a nutshell, Buck, a Navy SEAL, and Angela, a doctor with Doctors Without Borders, have a romantic history that ended years ago. They meet again in Africa as the SEAL team is trying to find and eliminate a warlord. As they travel through the country, Angela’s medical abilities are needed as are Buck’s military skills. I now want to read about the other characters.
An action packed second chance romance. Angela and Buck were together during med school, but circumstances forced Buck to leave. He joined the Navy to get away from his past, and to protect Angela. Sparks fly when they come across each other again in Sudan. She doesn't want to admit that she still loves him, and he'll do whatever it takes to get her back. I thought that the action was great and well paced. The characters were easy to like, even though at times I wanted to hit Angela for denying what she knew was there. That's what takes a story from one level to the next though, that feeling of being immersed in it and wanting to interact with the characters.
Three Courageous Words is another wonderful military romance by Elle James! "Buck" Graham Buckner walked away from the woman he loved years ago in order to protect her from his past life, but he vows never to do it again. This time he has to get Angela Vega out of Africa before a warlord who Graham and his team are in country to find comes after them and kills them, but Angela doesn't want to leave until she helps the many children in her care get to safety.
I was given an ARC from the author/publisher. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.
Another member of this Seal team bites the dust to the love bug. Buck, Graham Buckner, is shocked to see his old flame, Angela Vega, marching in a protest in a dangerous area of the Sudan. In fact his team is there to take out the local warlord who is terrorizing the people and stealing their young sons as recruits in his army. As Buck and Angela face the dangers of the journey to find the warlord's location, their love is rekindled. The question is can they survive long enough to grab that future for themselves.
Lost love can be devastating. Finding that love can bring hope Buck and Angela had it all in medical school until his past interfered. He just left with no word. The team was in Sudan when all hell breaks loose, guns, women protesting , a horrible man who the seal’s were to take out. The women leading the protestors was familiar to Buck. Could it be? This war lord raids villages, kills villagers, steals kids to be soldiers in his army.. one seal is shot, the doctor kidnapped. Do Buck and Angela reunite/. Read on. Lot of action
I loved the cast of characters list at the beginning - wish more authors would do that! And then was the dramatic beginning itself that hooks in the reader - a gunfight, bombs exploding! There are adventures, near escapes, a wonderful Christian couple who helps, great sex scenes, emergency surgeries. Talk about action, adventure, and romance! I highly recommend it. I'm writing this honest review in exchange for receiving an Advanced Readers Copy of this book.
Buck is on a rescue mission in Africa and doesn’t expect to be rescuing the girl he left behind. Angela is a doctor now and trying to help the woman and children injured in the path of a warlord. Can he convince her to give him another chance? This is a fast-paced read with plenty of drama and steam. This read is a part of a series but can be read as a stand-alone. Great characters and an entertaining story. I liked it.
A fast past read that will have you gasping for breath as this story unfolds in front of you. Three Courageous Words book #3 in the ( Mission: Six Series ) by: Elle James will have you read for more out of this series. From targetting a Warlord to find tbe one you left behind to save her from his past to saving her now in the middle of a op to take down the Warlord to being with her on the run to find out where the Warlord lives. To final telling her that he still loves her even when he lift to loving her now.
I enjoyed this intriguing romance. Bought this at a local library sale and I voluntarily chose to review this story. I've given this a 4.5* rating. Beware, this has some intense violence. There is a lot of action in this and it pulled me in right away and held me in a tense, edge of your seat grip till it was finished. This is a second chance romance, but what a way to find each other again. The very end is nice. Just don't read this right before bed.
I loved this book. I loved the story, the characters, the drama, the action and the passion. It was a great second chance romance, with real life villains and wonderful heroes. Buck and Angela were so good together. It was a fabulous read. I volunteered to review an arc of this book. I enjoyed it so much that I bought it.
