For Sidney Hale, rescuing dogs is more than a hobby. It’s a calling. A deep-seated need. An unstoppable compulsion. For reasons so unsettling, she shares them with no one…until she meets Decker. After coming to her rescue while Sidney battled to save a dog—literally—the gorgeous SEAL proves he can be trusted with her secrets, her safety…maybe even her heart.
Saving an abused pit bull from a suspected dog fighter brings Decker “Gumby Kincade not only the dog he’s always wanted, but the first woman in ages to catch his interest. Sidney’s reason for rescuing Hannah, and animals like her, is shocking…but it makes Gumby want her even more. Her harrowing past has made her the strong, brave, compassionate woman she is today. She could be The One…if Gumby can help curb her habit of putting herself squarely in danger’s path.
But he may be too late. Hannah’s previous owner is enraged over her loss…and looking for revenge.
** Securing Sidney is the 2nd book in the SEAL of Protection: Legacy Series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings.
** This story examines the stark reality of dogfighting and other animal abuse, and includes brief descriptions that may be unpleasant for some readers. .
New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal Bestselling Author, Susan Stoker has a heart as big as the state of Tennessee where she lives, but this all American girl has also spent the last fourteen years living in Missouri, California, Colorado, Indiana, and Tennessee. She's married to a retired Army man who now gets to follow her around the country.
Ahhh, this book!!! Sidney has a real heart for animals, dogs especially, due to her background. Gumby AKA Decker had a life-altering experience in Bahrain recently, which was the push he needed to decide NOW was the time to get a dog. The way they're brought together was scary but cool, and I absolutely LOVED his approach to letting her know he's interested. I also absolutely love how the whole team is written, the brotherhood & friendship & how the women they bring into the fold fit in.
The romantic relationship happens super fast, yet is paced well at the same time. Sidney makes some ... questionable decisions ... and the results are quite intense and terrifying! Which makes for GREAT reading material!

It has been a while since I picked up Miss Stoker's books. Her books are mainly milotary romance. But her story is sadly recyled over and over again. It is not that I do not like it, but I got bored with damsel in distress heroine. While the hero plays minor role in the background.
I am not an animal lover, so I struggle to find any chemistry with the plot over a dog. The lenght of the audiobook is pretty long at 9 hours.
Nothing memorable. Just plain cheesy, recyled plot.
Securing Sidney is the second book of the Seal of Protection: Legacy series but can be read as a standalone. Well, I think. This book starts off with a very sudden beginning and had me confused the first few pages, yet I don't think these characters' story would have been shown in the previous book. We never actually got to see the scene where Decker first saw Sidney and what brought them together. Instead we were thrown into the aftermath of that, which is where the story started. Having such a sudden start to this couple made it kind of hard for me to connect to them which had me feeling meh about them the whole book.
It wasn't a bad story and Sidney was definitely a kickass heroine, so I still recommend reading it. I'm definitely curious to go back and read the previous book also and I think this series will turn out to be a really fun one.
In this book we have a TSTL heroine that grated on my last nerve. Our hero is not so alpha and seems to be a bit of dim bulb...not the brightest special force operative I've read about. It was truly a disappointment for me.
This will not go on my reread list.
What was I thinking??? I reread this a few days ago because I couldn't remember if I read it and my laptop is broken down and couldn't check ŷ. I didn't like it at all just like the first time.
I don't even know where to start with my review. I know when I read a Susan Stoker book that I'm going to enjoy it. Her heroes are hot alpha guys and her heroines may be a little damaged but they aren't damsels in distress looking for their prince charming. But Ms. Stoker has outdone her self with Securing Sidney. Sidney is no Cinderella. Sure, she may be down on her luck and putting herself into dubious situations but when Prince Charming rides in, in the form of Decker Kincade aka "Gumby", Sidney is more concerned with his companion than him. Decker Kincade isn't looking for romance. Sure he wants to find someone like his teammate Rocco did but he's content with his life. Until he stops to break up a fight and gets more than he bargained for.
Get ready for a rollercoaster ride. Have the tissues ready, don't drink while reading (or you could end up snorting coca-cola out of your nose during a particularly funny part), and be ready to add a fur baby to your family! Susan Stoker takes this very sensitive and not widely known problem and shines a light on it. She gives the reader a chance to learn. Ms. Stoker also wows with these 2 new characters. They are funny, damaged, and loveable. I absolutely adored this story. The story moves along at a good pace giving you great dialogue between all the characters. As always we get to catch up with characters from other books and a sneak at an upcoming book. I loved this book and cannot wait to add it to my book collection!
Have you ever had day on the beach with a really good margarita? Like the sun is shining and air is just a tiny bit breezy—not enough to whip sand in your eyes, but just enough to move the air around your face. It’s a really beautiful day and your margarita is perfect. Some family is making sand castles near the surf, a set of kids are trying to fly kites, and out on waves you can see a couple of die-hard surfers. It’s just a really good, near perfect day. That is exactly what Susan Stoker’s new book Securing Sidney is. She (the book) is the perfect day with the perfect margarita. She’s bright and airy, swirly and sassy, with a right mix of sweet and salty.
Securing Sidney is the second book in the SEAL of Protection book series. If you've read the first book in this series, you’ve met the guys; Rocco, Ace, Bubba, Rex and Phantom. This is Gumby’s story with Sidney. If I had to choose, I’d say that Gumby is like your perfect beach day—he’s bright and airy. (Weird for a description of an alpha male, but it fits Gumby’s personality). Sidney is a margarita. She’s sassy and salty. And somehow the combinations mix wonderfully.
And then there’s a doggie. And her story doesn’t start off happy, but her ending is dang near as perfect as it gets for dog. Little Hannah is like the kite. She’s beautiful flying, but when she crashes—your heart stutters. Until she finds her feet again (or figuratively, her wings).
Sidney and Gumby’s story has a couple of darker undertones. What story doesn’t? But those clouds don’t take away the sunshine of the perfect day. And it doesn’t sour their love story. It enhances the sweet and sassy.
If you’re reading Securing Sidney it’s real easy to lose yourself in a perfect day and a perfect book. Don’t forget your margarita!! 😉
Holy Cow!!! Or rather Rescue DOG! This is yet another amazing story! There’s never a question for me... a new Stoker book? Yes please!! Don’t miss out!!!
Sidney has one large heart and a very stubborn will. She puts everything aside to save the dogs that are forced to fight each other. Decker has his hands full trying to get her to understand that she is in danger every time she runs to save another one on her own. He knows that Sidney is the one that will be his if he can keep her safe from herself. The dog fights that were described had me cringing and wondering how people can be so callous and non-caring. Susan has done a fabulous job writing this story.
Wow is all I can say, that such a story could come to be is astounding. Some of the reviews I read, made me wonder why some were angry and could not forgive Sidney. Folks we all are human, we make mistakes or make a decision that is not the right one, but for the person doing it, it is right and it feels right. Sydney and Gumby (Decker) have a interesting start. Over a dog that Sidney is rescuing from a total jerk, yes it is a pit bull, but to be treated like Hannah was, is way more then even I can deal with. Sweet dog takes to Decker and in a way to Sidney. As they get closer small secrets start coming out about Sidney and her Family. Her younger brother is a mass killer, and honed his craft since he was a child, and Sidney witnessed most of it, wont say much more about this, you have to read it to honestly understand where Sidney is coming from. It also was so neat to see Decker's team rally around her and to see old friends make an appearance. Thank you Susan for another magnificent story.
Dog fighting is terrible, no way to make it less than it is or pretty it up for fiction. Susan does a wonderful job of shining light onto the subject. That’s really what this book is about. There’s the romance and suspense, but mostly it’s about Hannah. I understand having to give some background so we know why Sidney does was she does, but I don’t feel the brothers background needed to be what it was. The dog fighting is heavy enough. It’s a heavy story and well worth your time.
I loved this book. Once again Susan Stoker has written a book filled with romance, an alpha male and a strong woman passionate about saving animals. I also loved seeing Caroline and the mention of the other Seal team we have come to know and love. I would highly recommend this book, series and author to anyone.
Good read... tho I did want to shake some sense into Sid sometimes. Get all the trauma and we all react differently... but...
On a re-read 19/08/20 Sidney was so stupid to have done what she did... and it is all well and good that she was trying to atone for her brother's childhood sins... but that wasn't her responsibility and she put herself in a ridiculous situation... I think one of her thoughts struck me ' They might have her in a cage, but she wasn’t a fucking dog.'. The thing is... if she loved dogs so much... that is a little derogatory towards them. And what about cats? Obvs, a set-up cat fight isn't something that I can imagine that people would pay to see... but I would imagine that plenty of cats are abused too... just like her brother did as a kid... So... I don't like Sidney. She is irresponsible and breaks her word.
And did Gumby ever do anything about looking into the brother? He had the intent to. And what about her parents... it would've been good to have had some kind of confrontation and closure there too.
Securing Sidney: SEAL of Protection Legacy Book 2 is by Susan Stoker. Once again, Susan outdoes herself with the suspense of a SEAL romance. The reader never knows just what Sidney will do next and how Gumby will be able to protect her. Once she gets saving dogs in her mind, she can’t seem to stop stealing them from a man named Victor who abuses them. Why can’t she stop? Decker “Gumby Kincaid has just come home after another mission with his SEAL unit. This time, he has finally decided he needs to settle down and get serious with is life. He has purchased a beach house which he is renovating where he will set down roots. He has decided to be openminded about getting serious about a woman if he should meet one he likes. He has also decided to get himself a dog. He has always wanted one and now seems to be the time to do that. However, he wasn’t intending to break up a fight between a large man and a tiny woman who was trying to save the man’s dog from his abuse. Gumby finds himself taking the dog to the vet and falling for the dog and the girl he helped save. Hannah, the dog, takes to him immediately and falls totally in love with him. What can he do to make Sidney do the same?
This story tackles a tough subject and to know that Hannah, the dog in this story is real made the story that much more gut wrenching but also to know that it ended well for both the real Hannah and the fictional one is heartwarming. So many emotions were pulled out of me in this book. Anger, sadness, hope, happiness and a few more.
Sidney is one hell of a survivor and she has overcome so much but it left her with tremendous guilt and that guilt ultimately leads her down a path of self destruction. Sydney is an amazing character with a vulnerability that she hides behind her snark and sass. She is a champion for abused dogs and she isn't afraid of a fight to get the dogs to a safe haven.
Decker/Gumby is a badass SEAL who always wanted a dog. Hannah practically falls into his lap when he stumbles upon Sydney trying to rescue her. Gumby is typical alpha male who falls hard and fast. He comes to Hannah's rescue and the dog instantly bonds with him. He is gentle and caring and kind, everything a hero should be.
This was a great story in spite of the rough subject matter. It's horrifying what people will do to animals and Ms. Stroker handled it realistically. Sidney's actions at the end of the book were very realistic. This was a great read. Ms. Stroker never disappoints this reader.
As usual a great book from Susan. I must admit that when I first starting reading about Sidney I had a slight dislike for her but as I read more of the book, her personality came out, little Nuance's that told you the way she ticked, her story was heartbreaking but you could actually see why she was the way she was. Some of the whit she came out with had me laughing out loud like when Gumby asked if she found something in his drawers "yes a porn mag from the 1990's, sock without a pair etc" Hannah's story was heartbreaking and once you realise that it's a real life dog it definitely pulls at your heart strings. As you progress through the story you understand Hannah the dog, Sidney and Gumby as a seal but a shock is in store as Sidney becomes naive and outs herself on danger. Will she get out of any of this alive? A great read from start to finish.
Absolutely amazing! Susan stokers books are always a one click purchase for me. I had been anxiously awaiting Sidney and Gumby's book! I really liked Sidney, she had a huge heart, lots of strength but also some major childhood trauma to overcome. Gumby was absolutely perfect for Sidney. I loved how Susan brought Caroline in on this book and some of my original favorite seals were mentioned...DUDE!!!! Aaaah! There are several points where you want to shake Sidney and then hug her for the childhood trauma. She's not a perfect person but that's why I loved her so much. Give Sidney a chance she's an amazing and complex lady.
Susan has an amazing talent at drawing you in to this world where these characters feel like your friends. From the first page of Caroline's book years ago I've been a huge fan. Not one book is the same. I can't wait to see what she has up her sleeves next for us.
This is a 5 star highly recommended book, you don't need to read the first book in the series to understand but do it anyways!!
I really enjoyed this book. The characters all feel like real people. They aren't perfect and make mistakes and have real emotions. I highly reccomend it. This is the story of Sidney Hale and Decker "Gumby" Kincaide.
Sidney rescues dogs it's a unstoppable compulsion for reasons she hasnt shared with anyone but Decker.
Sidney is rescuing an abused pitbull when Decker meets her. Her reason for rescuing dogs makes Decker fare for her even more. She could be the one but only if Gumby can help stop her from putting herself in danger. He may be too late Hannah the pit bull he helped her saves from her previous owner. The owner is enranged over the loss of his dog and is looking for revenge.
This is an amazing story and I really enjoyed it. You should really check it out. It's a fast 5 star read once I started it I couldn't stop until I finished it.
I am loving this new series from Susan Stoker! The books just keep getting better and better. This is the next story in the SEAL of Protection Legacy Series and features Decker “Gumby Kincade and Sidney Hale. The way that these two people met was so original and different. You can’t help but fall in love right away with Decker when you see how he is with Sidney and Hannah. Your heart will go out to Sidney when you learn about how she grew up and everything that she has been through and how she supports herself now. You can’t help but admire her. She is a strong woman and just perfect for Decker. The whole story will keep you entertained from beginning to the very end. I especially love the chapter where Sidney and Caite meet for the first time. It will make you chuckle. The whole book is a winner!
Sidney Hale, handy woman and dog rescuer, met Decker ‘Gumby Kincaid when he came upon her fighting with the man who was mistreating a pit bull. When Gumby adopted the badly injured dog, Sidney’s heart melted a little...but she feels that she’s out of his league...after all, her baby brother is a notorious serial killer. Gumby is drawn to the brave, outspoken woman and the pair become fast friends. Can Gumby get past Sidney’s insecurities and show her that she’s worth loving? Will the dog fighters become more of a threat than imagined? Another captivating story in this new series. Looking forward to more.
I'm a bit addicted to Susan Stoker's books...actually I'm very addicted!! Securing Sidney doesn't do anything to change this. I read them for the story but I love them for the characters. This book just reinforces this. Yes, Sidney is impulsive and jumps into situations that ultimately get her in trouble...but she had a horrific upbringing and her heart's in the right place. In the end she realizes things have to change if she wants her HEA. Gumby is the perfect Susan Stoker SEAL hero...tough and bossy on the outside, VERY protective, but soft and mushy on the inside...In other words perfect. Enjoy this book! ...warning there is some scary and unsettling violence towards dogs so be prepared...but it's not gratuitous, it's a vital part of the story.
I'm a fan of Susan Stoker's military / ex-military theme books. I absolutely love her two current series. I can't wait for the next book in the series.
** This story examines the stark reality of dogfighting and other animal abuse, and includes brief descriptions that may be unpleasant for some readers.*** <--- Keep that in mind when you consider whether or not to read the book. Some scenes are not pretty and some might find them very disturbing. The animal abuse was heartbreaking and made me wonder what kind of monsters do stuff like that to animals.
Here is a brief introduction to the book. Securing Sidney is the second book in the SEAL of Protection: Legacy series by Susan Stoker. Each book can be read as stand-alone, but when it comes to SS you want to read all the books in the series. I loved the book! I always do when it comes to this author. What was surprising is that Sidney had not gone through something horrible at the beginning of the book and actually was the one doing the rescue, even if she was saving Hannah who is a dog. Sidney's story is not pretty in so many ways and it explains the motivations behind her actions, so I couldn't stay mad her even when she did some not so smart things.
The only problem I had with the book is the way it started. It was very abrupt and it felt like a continuation rather than the very first chapter of a story, which threw me off. I was not a fan of everything that had to do with the warning above, but it made the story more realistic and it's a great way to motivate people to learn more about animal shelters and animal abuse.
Do I need to comment on the rest of the book? Because SS is one of the handful of authors whose books I adore no matter what. I love her male characters because they are protective, caring and loving and they are not your average male characters. Sidney was a good heroine with a big heart who is not afraid to do anything she can in order to help the poor animals. I couldn't be more satisfied with the main (and the secondary I might add) characters and I liked the romance.
Oh boy! Sidney, sidney,sidney....smh. I understood why she tried so hard to save the animals BUT the ways she went about it were unexceptable! Sidney was very reckless. She was adult enough to understand that she needs professional help but won’t seek it? I don’t get it! The one line here that made total sense was, if you get killed, you won’t be able to help any animals! Did she listen to Deckers pleas? Of course not! Stubborn woman! Although these two were perfect for one another, I would’ve stood by any decision Decker made about them. She was absolutely reckless and put others in danger. And to that I say, exceptional read!!
Great second book in this series. Decker is perfect for Sidney, who had a childhood from he-double hockey sticks. Decker was slow, but not too slow. Loved how all the team from both series are there to help out when needed.
