The Sulan series is a YA dystopian series. Hacker is a prequel novella introducing the world and characters from the series. Hank works as a hacker. She started out laundering money for Logan, a dangerous criminal. But now she's expected to erase people...wiping out all record of their existence. Hank knows she can't spend the rest of her life working for Logan. He kills people. How can she protect her family, but escape from Logan?
This story is so action-packed and interesting! It kept my attention from start to finish. This is my first experience with Author Camille Picott and the Sulan series. I will definitely be reading more! This story really made me want to know what happens to Hank in the future, and what she does with her amazing computer skills.
I like Hank as a main character. She wants to make sure her parents and little brother are safe. She's willing to do just about anything to make sure they are fed and happy....except work for a murderer. She is definitely an intelligent and strong female character!
I listened to the audio book version of this free novella. The audio is 2.5 hours long and is narrated by Gwendolyn Druyor. Druyor reads at a nice even pace. Her performance is top notch...she really made the action scenes exciting!
There are seven books in the Sulan series. I bought a copy of book one, The League, after finishing this prequel story. Can't wait to read it!
**I voluntarily read this story after receiving a free copy from the author. All opinions expressed are entirely my own.**
My review is based on the audiobook. Hacker is a great short story that quickly captivates the reader and leaves them wanting to read more in this series. The narrator did a fantastic job bringing the story and characters to life. I really enjoyed Hank's story and am looking forward to reading this series.
This was my first Camille Picott's book. This short story is a Prequel of the Sulan, a YA dystopian Series. This story takes place in a world where the US is in bankruptcy and the chaos is installed. For such a short story, this thriller is fast-paced, action-packed, and the characters well developed. The storyline is captivating, entertaining and truly breathtaking. I loved Hank’s story, who works as a hacker for a horrible man in an attempted to help and save her family. Hank is a beautiful and strong character. Timmy, her little brother, is also a beautiful character. I like the ending. I’d love to listen to the next books in the Series! Gwendolyn Druyor does an amazing job with all the characters, as always (I really liked Timmy’s voice). I really enjoyed my listening. I received this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.
Henrietta "Hank" Simmons is an amazing hacker, working for a corporation run by a man named Logan. Hank's job is to erase all of a person's identity from the system, but she doesn't know why she is doing this. When she finds out, she realizes that she has to do something while trying to keep her family, especially her little brother, Tim, safe.
Set in a dystopian world where your job might be to dig through garbage in order to find a few things to sell, the author does a great job with world building and character development. The action is quick and violent and you feel the character's emotions as they play out.
This is a good introduction to what I think will be a great series. Hank is a great character (though a little naïve) and I look forward to following her further adventures.
The narrator does a great job and added a lot to my enjoyment of this short novella.
An entertaining, fast-paced prequel to the Sulan series, in which we are introduce to Henrietta "Hank" Simmons, a talented hacker. When she discovers how the organisation she works for earns its money, she decides she must do something, even at the cost of her future and possibly life.
While the world building is limited, there's enough information to give the reader an idea of how bleak things have gotten. The focus of the story is Hank, and how she faces the truth about her employer and her own situation.
This book kept me entertained, and I'm looking forward to the actual first volume of the series, in which Hank will hopefully make an appearance.
Hacker is a novella set in the Sulan series. This can be read as a standalone but it makes more sense if you have read other books in the series. There is violence. It was good to finally get the background on Hank and why she is so pro Global Arms and the Winn family. Now her actions in the series makes more sense when you understand her motivation.
I liked it a lot couldn’t put it down, and read it very quickly. Wish it was a little longer, but I guess thats what a series are for. Definitely recommend it and will be looking into the rest of the series.
Hacker is a fun read. Nice plot and easy to get into the characters. It is a short read but a lot of fun too. Camille is a fine writer and I enjoyed the book as I know you will too.
An interesting dystopian story unlike any other that I've ever read before, a gripping page turner. This story has a background that's very original that I haven't seen before. Very interesting!
