'BEES!' Keya cried. 'Run for your life!' Arun grabbed her hand. “They won’t hurt you if you don’t bother them. Bees are totally amazing."
THE BROKEN BEE'S NEST, by Lydia Lukidis, is a great way to introduce bee facts to any child. The engaging fictional story is interspersed with fun facts about bees, and there's additional backmatter too that helps kids understand how to be friends to bees. Whimsical illustrations by Andre Ceolin pair with well chosen words that encourage kids to respect living things, make things with their hands, and create. This story is part of the MAKERS MAKE IT WORK STEAM series, one of many books that empowers young readers to explore ideas and use their creativity.
I found this book to be a fun read as well as very interesting and informative. The first time I read it, my granddaughter said, "Again!" I love the things I learned and the bee tidbits included on the pages. I always enjoy back matter that leads readers to continue learning about or interacting with the book subject matter. In this case, the back matter was all about BEES! Vibrant illustrations keep readers looking and listening. This is definitely a book that will encourage readers to get out in nature and appreciate our bees.
When Arun and Keya are searching for the perfect tree for their tree house, they come across a broken bees' nest. With a little help from their neighbor, a beekeeper, the children are able to save the bees and move them to a new home. Children will enjoy learning all about bees while they read the story.
A very informative book about honeybees as told through a story about relocating a wild hive to a wooden hive box. It's quite wordy and the book is fairly small so it is probably best for one-on-one reading or with very small groups.
