Sadie Gold has finally won her dream role. The movie she is about to star in will really make her a true star. However, being trained by stunt coordinator Bo Ibarra will not come easy. Bo is Sadie's ex, the man who stole her heart, then left. Working with Bo certainly will not be easy for Sadie, but needs must.
Bo is quite a good man. He didn't come from much at all, but has built up a wonderful stunt business. His work is highly recognized. When Bo's past is considered, it makes it clearer to Sadie why their relationship did not work before. Is there a chance now?
Second chance romances are kind of my hidden love. To see a couple clearly meant for each other but driven apart by problems, and to see whether or not they can work things out is always rewarding. In Once Upon a Bad Boy we got to see the man Bo has become. This is the third book in the Sometimes in Love series. I enjoyed all of the stories so far and look forward to more by Melonie Johnson. I have loved each couple and think that this is a very strong series.

Sadie and Bo were the best of childhood friends, then eventually teenage lovers. Sadie came from a family of wealth and privilege, while Bo’s father managed the stables for Sadie’s grandparents. As is oftentimes the case, as the two got older and the relationship intensified, Bo made the decision to break things off for good with Sadie. You know, for her own good and all that jazz.
Fast forward twelve or so years and both Sadie and Bo have worked hard for the success that’s finally coming to them. Bo as a stunt coordinator and Sadie as an actress. Karma, being the bitch that she is, brings the two together on a project that could make or break both of their careers. Stunts are coordinated, sparks fly and before too long, these two are trying to find out whether or not Bo and Sadie 2.0 is better than the beaten down, original version.
Overall, I enjoyed Melonie Johnson’s writing style and the story in general. Everything flowed smoothly and there weren’t a whole lot of awkward moments as far as the writing goes.
Unfortunately, I never really connected with either character. Or maybe I never really felt the connection between the two. I liked Sadie and felt a great deal for what she had to go through, but Bo never really endeared himself to me. Him giving up on the relationship the first time the way he did meant he had a lot of making up to do, at least as far as coming up with a better reason for dumping the supposed love of his life the way he did. I get it, her family’s rich and he’s not. But when it comes right down to it, his father loved his job and his mother was a veterinarian. Not exactly hanging out on street corners slinging, if you catch my drift. Present day Bo didn’t really float my boat, either.
While Once Upon a Bad Boy didn’t really knock my sock off, I’d still love to try another read from this author, regardless of my issues with Bo and Sadie’s story.

After reading the first twoSometimes in Lovebooks (Smitten by the BritandGetting Hot with the Scot) I was over the moon when my NetGalley request forOnce Upon a Bad Boy was approved. The first two struck a great balance of sizzling romance and heart - with no shortages of chemistry. Unfortunately,Once Upon a Bad Boyfailed to live up to my expectations and was ultimately a forgettable serial romance with some problematic tendencies.
While all of the books in this series have been a little bit predictable, they at least added their own spice and chemistry to their familiar romance plot lines. InOnce Upon a Bad Boy, it really felt like a million romance books I've read before. There wasn't anything to set it apart from the herd, and I have a feeling that in a few weeks I likely won't remember much about this book. The plot was predictable to the point that it was boring to read at times. Also, there were definitely way too many cliches jammed in - I don't mind one or two in my romance books, but their overuse can really bring down the quality of a book.
The biggest issue with this book - and this is a spoiler - how it handled the topic of the main character getting an abortion. It was treated as a big plot twist, but little was done in terms of developing Sadie's thoughts and emotions around the whole situation. Using abortion as a plot device without fully fleshing out the emotional impact on the character made it feel trivialized and poorly handled. It was built up to, dropped like a bombshell, and then all of the focus went to how those around Sadie dealt with it. And was that ever painful to read - her 'best friend' Ana, was ultimately angry at Sadie for not telling her that she had gotten an abortion - rather than being supportive of her friend's choices and privacy. It was cold, self-centered, and showed just how poorly the friendships in this book were developed. Bo's reaction was even worse - he was angry that he wasn't made aware of her choice and that she had taken what he perceived to be his child away. He lashed out at her and was deeply vicious and far, far beyond redemption in my eyes.
Once Upon a Bad Boy just fell flat, especially when compared to its predecessors. It was a very basic, well trodden story line with flat characters and virtually no chemistry. Also, the poor handling of deeply personal and sensitive issues really rubbed me the wrong way. I would still highly recommend the first two books in the series to people who are looking for some good whirlwind romances with excellent chemistry.2/5.

Sadie finally has the chance to prove she’s made it when she lands biggest role of her movie career. Until she discovers her childhood sweetheart is the stunt coordinator. Things didn’t end well between these two star-crossed lovers the first time and Sadie has worked hard to bury her feelings when it comes to Bo. But this unexpected second chance has Sadie wondering if fate is working her magic...and is the risk one Sadie’s willing to take?
Sadie was a tiny spitfire full of sass, loyalty, and a heart full of gold! She wasn’t perfect by any means. She had her own insecurities and doubts too, but I liked how she owned her issues.
Bo was this sexy contradiction of strength and vulnerability. He lived with regrets, but worked hard to overcome them and find his niche in the world. I liked how his heritage played a big role in his viewpoint too. It served a purpose in explaining his perception on his relationship with Sadie and eventually the wedge that divided them.
Sadie and Bo’s second-chance romance slayed me...and pieced me back together again! I loved their journey of rediscovery, not just with each other, but also themselves. Growing up isn’t easy on a good day, and what these two knew at 18/19 was infinitely different at 30/31 years old.Their relationship was a firestorm of emotion and I liked how it gave a a richer perspective on the backstory story. Sadie and Bo’s story was slightly heavier then the first two books, especially when tackling some sensitive issues, but I think Johnson handled things quite well.
It’s not a secret I’ve fallen for Melonie Johnson’s writing style and her flair for words! I love her geeky side with movie references (yay for Stars Wars!) pop culture, and Shakespeare, but even more, I love the richness and depth of her characters. Whether its relatable trials and tribulations, the deep female friendships that need no reason to celebrate, or the charged romances that make you want a fan one minute-while melting your heart in the next- Johnson’s books have quickly become a favorite!

We all remember Sadie from the first two books. She's the actress! And she finally landed her dream role. She has to train really hard to get into fighting shape - only one donut a week is allowed! �
Then comes the first day on set - the first meeting of all actors and movie folk. And who is the stunt person on set?? Her first love Bo! The guy she loved with all her heart. The guy she hasn't seen for ten years. Their worlds never fit - she was the rich princess and he the boy from the wrong side of the tracks. But they loved each other - until he broke up with her on prom night!
Could this be their second chance or is there still too much in the way of their happiness?

Lots of cute and romantic moments. Some heartbreaking and sad moments. Lots of family and friends moments.
I really adored Bo and Sadie - plus all the others. Like the girls from the previous books and Sadie's bestie Ana and her co-star Ryan. Great cast. Great book.
I wouldn't mind seeing this series on tv one day!
Like with the first books, I've had problems with some of the writing. Melonie uses those weirdly constructed sentences a lot. It probably has an official grammatical name.
I don't like it at all - no idea why.
Examples - I don't have my kindle here right now - I highlighted some. But I think I can create some of my own ... let me think ... A german girl, Bianca has problems understanding this sh*t. / An artist, he never had enough money for food.
Know what I mean????? So weird!

Sadie is about to have her dreams come true when she is offered a big movie role. There is just a little bump in the road...that being that the stunt coordinator is her ex.
I like "second chance" love-stories and this one was very entertaining.
Sadie and Bo were childhood sweethearts, but he broke her heart and left her. Now they might have a second chance to find love again...together.
These two are not the same people they were years ago and maybe...they can work things out. The sparks are certainly still there ;)
But in order to finally be together again, they will need to work through their issues and their secrets.
This was a very nice second love story and I liked both main characters, though there were also some parts that had me grinding my teeth.

I have to admit, I had a bit of a love/irritation moments with this book. I loved a lot of it. But there were some factors that I did not care for too.
Bo - Definitely a great character. Hot, sexy, and so in love with Sadie. But he had problems as a teen and reasons for letting her go.
Sadie - I actually enjoyed Sadie's character quite a bit. She is a great match for him and cares for him deeply. However, the author chose to have her do something that I have a huge problem with and without any spoilers, let's just say that conversation is a huge plus.
There were also a few instances that really bothers me about her relationship with Bo's sister. Plus, there was a something going on years ago that was never developed and that bugged me too.
Johnson is an awesome story teller and knows how to write the sexy reads we love. This story has all of the earmarks of a fabulous read, but I got caught up in some nagging details that I could not let go.
Overall, this book is perfect for anyone that loves the second chance romance storyline. Sweet, hot, and dreamy! I rate it 3.5 stars.

Sadie was a pampered little rich girl who grew up into an up and coming star, trying to make it on her own merit and Bo, the son of her family’s equine manager, now a movie stunt trainer, fell in love as children, went too far, gave too much and were not mature or secure enough to hang on to each other.
A decade later, they are back together and the sparks fly, the embers of love and lust reignited, but secrets from the past are still buried deep. Will those secrets tear them apart once again or are they finally ready to be adults in an adult relationship?
ONCE UPON A BAD BOY by Melonie Johnson has all of the elements for a romantic and sexy escape from reality and for the most part, it worked for me, but there was so much that didn’t. I didn’t feel a sense of freshness in this tale. Parts I wanted to know more about were glossed over, perhaps in favor of more sex?
I am a fan of Melonie Johnson’s Sometimes in Love series, but this one just missed the Five Star mark for me, in spite of likeable characters, an amazing grandma and a cute little boy.

That's when she learns that the man they hired as the stunt coordinator on the set is her childhood friend and first everything. Bo Ibarra was her first crush, her first kiss, first boyfriend, first lover and her first heartbreak when he broke up with her more than a decade ago, without an explanation. After Bo, she hasn't been able to fall in love again because her heart hasn't been put back together, but spending the next weeks working with him will open up hope for a second chance and making peace with some decisions of the past.

Once again, Melonie Johnson won me over with her ability at creating a fun, sweet and touching story with characters you wish you were friend with and want to see happy. Each new book she writes become my favorite. The MC's life story was well fleshed out. One of the thing that I particularly like in her writing style is how well she play with analogies (for example with a box and the heroine's feelings).
What else can I say except for read MJ's books and I can't wait to read what's next!?

I enjoyed the first two books in Sometimes in Love series and was very much looking forward to the next installment. And I must say I loved Once Upon a Bad Boy even more that the first two. This series gets better and better with each new book, Melonie Johnson keeps impressing me with her writing and her stories. Once Upon a Bad Boy has my most favorite trope - second chance romance, and in this book it was executed perfectly. I loved Sadie and Bo's relationship, their shared history, and their chemistry.
My only teeny-tiny complaint is that Bo is misrepresented as a bad boy, which he is not. I've read a lot of bad boy romances and he is nothing like that particular archetype. He is more of a tortured hero who doesn't think he is good enough for Sadie. This is where a lot of the conflict comes from.
One thing that I particularly love about this series is that Melonie writes feminist, empowering, sex positive, swoony romances that tick all the right boxes for me. Everything I want to see in a romance book, she delivers! I cannot recommend Once Upon Bad Boy (and the whole series) enough, it’s a must read for all romance fans.

My only teeny-tiny complaint is that Bo is misrepresented as a bad boy, which he is not. I've read a lot of bad boy romances and he is nothing like that particular archetype. He is more of a tortured hero who doesn't think he is good enough for Sadie. This is where a lot of the conflict comes from.
One thing that I particularly love about this series is that Melonie writes feminist, empowering, sex positive, swoony romances that tick all the right boxes for me. Everything I want to see in a romance book, she delivers! I cannot recommend Once Upon Bad Boy (and the whole series) enough, it’s a must read for all romance fans.

It's another five star review and now I want to read books one and two in this series.
Sadie and Bo, sigh oh i could say so much about their past, their present their future. I am a sucker for childhood sweethearts and this one has it in spades. it's sad it's sassy and you'll want to cry laugh and maybe just punch something at points.
Bo the hired help, Sadie the rich little girl but they are so much then that, at one time they were each other's everything, then one night tore them apart, can the present bring them together and give them a future or will long buried secrets rip them apart before they can ever get their HAE.
once you pick up this book up you're not going to want to put it down so you better clear a chunk of time to read this.

Another addition to this series!!!! Sadie and Bo were together when they were teens. Sadie was rich and Bo was poor. Bo breaks up with her after prom and they don't speak to each other until she finds out he is in charge of the stunts on her new film. Melonie delivers a very hot story with great chemistry between the Bo and Sadie. His sister is a witch!!!! It broke my heart when Sadie had to reveal the secret to Bo before it was outed by the gossip mags. She had to make some tough decisions on her own because he seemingly disappeared from her life (though we do find out why). Bo and Sadie really have some hot hot scenes together. I love love love her Ana. She is so funny. I can't wait for more from this series!!!

Emotional, heart wringer love story that gives you all of the feels. I cried, I laughed, I cried some more, then I got mad and then my heart broke for this exceptional couple and I wondered how they had survived. Sometimes you have to go thru all of that to get to the good. 💓💔💓💞💞

This is my first book by author Melonie Johnson but it would definitely won't be my last.
This beautiful second chance romance had all the feels. From the well thought out characters with a gripping storyline. It was a book that was hard to put down.
I really love Sadie's girl gang and want to read all their stories. And Bo and Clark are the cutest. The storyline with excellent development of side characters makes this a highly re-readable book.
Can't wait to read the other stories by her as well.

Sadie has finally gotten the part in a movie that she has worked so hard to get to prove to everyone that she is more than just a spoiled rich girl. When she goes to her first meeting for the movie, she is taken by surprise that the man who will be the stunt coordinator is none other than Bo, her first love. Will they be able to work together as just coworkers, or will the sparks fly again, leading them to a second chance?

Sweet, second-chance romance. The third person writing was good. The characters weren't super easy to relate to because of their circumstance but that made them more charismatic. Caught up in the sort of fantasy of them was a great part of their allure. I had a few issues with the mains and the secondary's. The plot was interesting but it lingered a bit and got caught up in frivolous details but then there were also some details I felt weren't fully fleshed out that I would have liked to of seen more developed. I was charmed easily in more than several sections of the book and the tender, nostalgic moments were written with great vulnerability and honesty.
What most stood out was that these two main characters were childhood sweethearts from very opposite lifestyles. I love that in a story and this one with it's lovely memories provided that much more charm. These two were always and still are on different paths and seeing them discover their own selves and rediscover each other always make for great romance. I was entertained and feel good about the book it just didn't wow me. Once Upon a Bad Boy is the kind of sweet, contemporary romance I'd recommend for an easy reading day on vacation.

Once Upon a Bad Boy by Melonie Johnson is the 3rd book in her Sometimes in Love series. Sadie Gold, whom we met in the previous books, and our heroine in this story, is training for her upcoming movie. Sadie is determined to prove that she is a good actress, especially with this leading role that could change her life. Sadie comes from a wealthy family, and has continually fought off the reputation of a spoiled rich girl, which she is anything but that. When she and her co star are told that they will need training for all the stunts that are in the movie, Sadie is shocked to discover her ex-boyfriend from high school is the trainer.
Bo Ibarra, our hero, has successfully risen from a life of struggle for his family growing up as a teenager to a partnership in movie stunts business. The best part of this story, was Sadie friends, especially Ava. The group together were a blast. I also thought that Bo’s sister was not nice, and did some unforgivable things in the past against Sadie. But by the end, they both reconciled their differences, as Sadie proved that she was not driven by her family’s money, and not spoiled, as others may have thought of her. I did like Bo a lot, as he was friendly and hot, though I thought what he did when he left her without discussing things with her was not nice. Bo realizes that he loves Sadie, but will he be able to get past a secret Sadie has kept all these years?
Once a Bad Boy was a nice second chance romance written well by Melonie Johnson. If you love contemporary romance with a bit of everything, great couple, wonderful secondary characters, I suggest you read this fun enjoyable book.

4 1/2 "glittery" stars!
Well, well Ms. Johnson....this was absolutely my favorite book so far in the Sometimes in Love series! Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed each book but there was really something special about the relationship between Sadie and Bo. Maybe it was their past history. I am definitely a sucker for a second chance romance!
As always, I like the girlfriend group that Sadie is a part of. However, in this book, we don't get to visit with all of them. We pretty much only get time with her best friend, Ana but she adds a lot to the story. For this reason, I don't believe you have to read the first two books prior to reading this one. It can definitely be read as a standalone.
Over the course of the story, we get the history of Sadie and Bo's relationship. They met when they were young. She spent summers with her grandmother and his father managed the property that her grandmother owned. They were a rich girl/poor boy storyline. Even though it seems Sadie never really thought about it, Bo dwelt on it all the time. Eventually, they broke up and didn't talk for close to ten years until they end up working on a movie together. Sadie is the lead actress and Bo is the stunt director. Things are definitely tense initially.
Sadie and Bo work through the bitterness at their previous breakup and gradually start their relationship back up. They still have a rocky road ahead and go through some challenges in their attempt to get to a happily ever after.
I really like the history of their past, the relationship with Sadie's grandmother and interactions between Ana and Sadie's co-star, Ryan. However, there were a few things that I didn't like. I felt that some of their history and past events needed more explanation. Overall, I really loved the storyline and characters! It was close to a 5 star read for me but since I felt like a little something was missing, I'm giving it a 4 1/2 star rating.

After the first two books, I didn't know much about Sadie, but I came to absolutely adore her and Bo. The tension and chemistry between the two is hot. My only issue with the characters is that I'm confused by Bo's background and not sure it's that well thought out.
I'd seen a spoiler online for a certain plot point so I knew the secret that Sadie was hiding and kept waiting for it to be revealed. This doesn't happen until very late in the book, but I absolutely think that the author handled it in the right way.
While this is the third in the series, it reads completely fine as a stand alone and I'd highly encourage you to pick it up even if you skipped over the first two. This is the best one yet and I can't wait til we get Ana and Delaney's stories.

This was an EPIC second-chance romance! Did I want to smack teenage Bo for breaking up with a teenage Sadie, even though he thought he was doing the right thing? YES. Luckily, that's the past and we're thrown right into the present. What I loved most though, is that Bo and Sadie were both fairly straight forward when it came to their feelings. They both have past hurts they're hiding, but it's like they both know they're meant to be together now. I love the people they have become, and seeing them struggle with their individual insecurities. There is just so much depth to both of them, and I was so invested in their happy ending.
Then you have the celebrity drama to add a little more spice. I loved getting to know Ana more too, as we've seen glimpses of her and Sadie in the previous books. I wish we got a little more of Sadie's grandmother, because she seems like a real gem! Overall, this was an amazing third book in the Sometimes in Love Series, and I can't wait to get the rest of the stories involving the lovely ladies in this friends group.

A perfect second chance romance if there ever was one! What would you do if the love of your life left you after your prom and now 10 years later was sitting across from you working on the same movie? That's right! Sadie Gold finally is moving out of soap operas and into the lead role of a movie and she got the role on her own and at the table read she discovers the stunt coordinator is none other than Bo Ibarra, her first love. Oh my. Bo is just as flummoxed when he discovers he is working with Sadie, she was his first love. Will they be able to work together and keep their hands off? Should they? Yea right! The chemistry between these two is enough to combust everything within striking distance. They have to overcome the past and work towards the future but they are up for the task. Add in the characters from the previous books in this series (great reads but not necessary for this one) and this is another hit! Definitely recommend this one. I deem it a standalone if you have not read the rest of the series.

This is such a good and touching second chance book. I loved how Ms. Johnson threw the idea of fate giving Sadie and Bo a second chance. Of course it wasn’t easy, good things never seem to be easy. I can understand Bo’s problem when they were younger that they came from two different worlds—hers was wealth, servants and privilege—his of hard working, servant, and fighting for everything he wants. Luckily when we get older, we can look at situations differently. It was hard for me that neither one wanted to talk about what happened when they were younger. I find it hard to think I would be with someone without knowing why that person broke up with me to begin with. I always enjoy catching up with characters from previous books. I loved Sadie’s grandmother and how understanding and caring she is with Sadie. Bo’s family was warm and interesting. There are so many emotions that I felt reading the book. I strongly encourage you to read the book. I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader’s Copy of this book.

This series gets better and better. Sadie gets an opportunity to reignite a lost love. Bo is the one who got away. Once again the author takes us on a wonderful journey of discovery. This couple after a decade apart has to get to know each other again and rediscover all the wonderful things that had attracted them to each other in the first place. It is a beautiful story of trusting your heart to lead you in the right direction.

So maybe it’s no surprise that I found the premise of Melonie Johnson’s Once Upon a Bad Boy to be delightful: Sadie Gold has just received the role of a lifetime, starring as an action hero in what’s sure to be a blockbuster film. To her shock, she realizes that the stunt coordinator on set is none other than Bo Ibarra, the man she grew up with and who broke her heart over a decade ago.
They both have secrets that they’re holding onto; will they break them apart for good?
This was my first Melonie Johnson book, and *cue dramatic voice*: it won’t be my last. It was hot and passionate. It was a celebration of female friendship, with friends who support one another and also tease, which rang authentic to me. And Johnson is a skilled writer, thoughtfully rendering the evolution of Sadie and Bo’s relationship (and beautifully showing how their feelings were/are possible of existing over a period of time, despite their years apart) and writing thrilling stunt scenes that are exciting and cinematic. They felt behinds-the-scenes-ish.
One last impressive aspect of the book is how Johnson handles Sadie’s revelation to Bo. Content warning ahead:

Johnson handled the topic of a past abortion adeptly and admirably, portraying how painful Sadie still found the subject, but also how she was certain that she made the right decision for herself. I appreciated how Johnson made it clear that it was possible for both of those things to be true.

Johnson handled the topic of a past abortion adeptly and admirably, portraying how painful Sadie still found the subject, but also how she was certain that she made the right decision for herself. I appreciated how Johnson made it clear that it was possible for both of those things to be true.

Once A Upon A Bad Boy is the third installment of the Sometimes in Love Series by Melonie Johnson. I have been lucky to have read the first two and this newest story Sadie and Bo is just as terrific if not better. Bo and Sadie have been longtime friends and previous lovers. They met as kids when Sadie would spend summers with her grandmother on her estate north of Chicago. Bo’s family lived and still live on the estate taking care of the horses and property. Sadie and Bo have not seen each other for over a decade when they are thrust together while Sadie is filming her new movie. Bo is the stunt coordinator for the film. As they struggle with their still smoldering attraction to each other they must contend with remaining professional while on set. Someone has been sabotaging Sadie’s reputation by releasing untrue and inappropriate stories about Sadie on the internet. Both, Bo and Sadie are keeping secrets from the other that stem from their teenage years and choices they made as teens. When the threats to Sadie and Bo’s career escalate each are again faced with new choices that can affect their futures. Will they share those secrets? Will those secrets tear them apart or has fate brought them back together for a second chance? This story is more emotional than the first two but in such a way that it will tug at your heart. I felt so much for these two even shed a few tears before reaching the conclusion. A great summer read. I received an ARC in exchange for a honest review. This is the third in a series called Sometimes in Love and it’s a winner all the way around. No need to read all of the books but it does help understand some of the back story.
And just wow. Sometimes in a series, the story becomes predictable and slow. This one should have been the first in the series because I almost gave up on that one. Each story gets better and so does writing, like the author wasn’t sure of her talent. I want to make it crystal clear � she knows how to write a story! This one is an award winner contender!
Sadie Gold is a successful actress who is playing her lifelong dream, the part of an action hero. The stunt coordinator turns out to be none other than Bo Ibarra, the guy who dumped her years ago on prom night with no explanation.
Both of them have secrets that they would rather keep that way but the attraction between them is undeniable. That secret will be hard to keep and stay professional. Neither one of them wants to fail at this project so they manage to keep hands off for the most part.
The author throws many curves at the reader that you certainly don’t expect and it keeps you intrigued from page to page. The HEA is achieved but no without some very surprising ups and downs. Definitely a book you need to read!
