Chasing Savannah

Rate this book
Being born the Alpha's granddaughter should have meant an easy life for Savannah Landry. Being born latent however, made her life in the prowl hierarchy a constant challenge. Those challenges and a Seer’s ominous vision drove her from, both her family and her place in the prowl. She kept her distance from panther politics, and all things shifter, fighting the awful prediction. While hard, she’d managed, until two alpha panthers came to town and tempted her

Former Army Rangers, Carlos Ayala and Derrick Lincoln had spent years together fighting, both longing for territory for their burgeoning prowl. Finding the city confining, they headed south, hoping to merge with a prowl in need of a strong Alpha. They had shared women in the past, but never loved the same woman until they set eyes on the alpha’s granddaughter.

Fated mates or not, convincing Savannah to disregard the Seer’s words and give their mating a chance proved tougher than two ex-soldiers had bargained. Especially when there are forces conspiring against their new prowl.

Baby I was not ready for this book but it sets the stage for the series to come and why I feel like we need to talk more about this author. I thought I loved the Hamilton and Knight brothers but this panther prowl is giving them a run for their money. The one thing that Dria does well is build in a complicated family and a latent fated mates. This union is going to be hard fought and the bond is not going to be questioned once it is made. My girl Savannah was ready for a fight and so where her cousins. Girl yes she said we get down dirty in Tampa and I lived for every second of it. Don't play with the Watson women or mess around and find out. I loved that nugget that the women were as crucial to maintaining the ferocity of the pack as the male panthers. Oh and Carlos and Derrick stay horny 🤷🏾‍♀ I loved this world and every time I'm in it I learned a bit more of all the connections.

CN: domestic violence, racism (killing of panthers for sport), kidnapping, torture, ambush,

First I’ll start by saying if you were looking for a poly romance where the 3 are all in a romantic relationship together, this is not it. In addition to that the writing was bad, the plot was a mess, and there was conflicting information being given out throughout the whole book. I’m really disappointed because I had high hopes for this book.

The Beginning

It’s funny that I knew about this book before others but it wasn’t the first book by the author I decided to read, even though it has my favorite romance trope. I knew going back would mean the writing would probably be a little different. And since it has less reviews than the other books in this world. I’m not sure why but I was just as good as the others. It’s longer because it’s the setup for them but I still enjoyed it very much. It also holds a large portion of the magic system behind Andersen’s shifter stories. Carlos and Derrick’s friendship and bond is so beautiful, they whole heartedly embody the protector/provider arc type that I think a lot of readers love. When you add Savannah’s heart, determination, and stubbornness to the mix it’s combustible. I loved loved loved the dominate yet submissive energy she had and represented. Along with the power, authority, and strength of the female family members. That’s the undeniable beauty of Andersen’s shifters romance it mirrors the dynamics we love and need, and the characters are free to fully embrace because of the animal spirit within them. That is absolutely where my love for shifter/paranormal romance comes from and she gives it to me in a way that puts my soul at peace.
On to the next one!

Savannah's journey is so tumultuous but so realistic. I loved how strong she was from the start yet the people she has met here there at parts of her life really held little to no respect for her. Her grandparents and outstricised cousins support and beleive in her is so beautiful and key to how she takes on the next hurdle in her life when two men come at her, suave and keen on making her their alpha woman but she has all the hungs up. The story telling, they way we weave through the story and find iut even more about her past and how hurtful manipulation by adults can wreck havoc in adult lives of people later on, is so well explored. And the patience of both Derrick and Carlos had me gripped from the go. I loved how they weren't overbearing and let her work on her confidence about their future at her pace with guidance and how well rounded they are in where they fit with her family, a take over, the change of dynamics in their power and region and them as a triage mating.

Big Fan

Due to a prophecy from her childhood, Savannah has no interest in dating any alphas. Derrick and Carlos intend to show her different. Can Savannah embrace her destiny before disaster strikes?

Dria Andersen has proven to me yet again that she can do great work with urban fantasy. Truly fantastic world-building. This mix of small towns and fantasy elements really does it for me. Her approach to making use of a triad was also really well done.

If you like shifters, small towns, and prophecies: this is for you.

A feline shifter romance by a black author with black characters! Just like the sequel (Which I read first... arrggh!) this is also on the more erotic side with a fair amount of sex, and it happens early on in this novel.

I need to go find some pearls to clutch

This was so so fun! My invisible pearls I'm sure are crushed to dust and I definitely learned some things my poor virginal mind wasn't ready for, but that's fine cause Savannah is about to be my number two favorite in the DA universe. Certified badass and I want a book just of her kicking ass all over the prowl. I ended the book so happy for her 🥹
