Mr. Wrong

Rate this book
Why does the wrong guy feel so right?

I had my perfect husband all picked out, but then he decided to marry someone else. So, on the night of his engagement party, I'm drowning my sorrows with my BFF Kari ... and in walks Mitchell Cole.

Mitch is the slow-talking, sexy-walking, eye-crinkle-having star of one of Kari's soap operas, but he doesn't do a thing for me. I need a career guy with a steady job and a plan, not a scruffy actor who works construction between gigs.

Then Kari "volunteers" me to hang out with him so I can get behind-the-scenes gossip for her. And that's all it is, even if his special blend of sweet and sexy is starting to break through my defenses.

But then my ex comes back into my life in the most unexpected way, and that's when things get confusing. Do I choose the man who's everything I thought I wanted? Or the man who might be everything I need?

Fans of Lauren Blakely and Emma Chase will love this hilarious and sexy take on losing Mr. Right ... and finding Mr. Wrong.

Jenna, Jenna, Jenna. How do I loathe thee? Let me count the ways. You are:

1. Flaky
2. Annoying
3. Exasperating
4. Inconsistent
5. Annoying

Did I already mention annoying? Yes? Well, it bears repeating: Jenna was unlikable.

To be honest-but for the author's note- I had every intention of rating this book one measly star. So this review- and rating- is for Claire, Nikki, Katie, Ginger, Nicki and of course, Tessa. A dedication or salutation- of sorts- for their perseverance with this story, when perhaps they really should have given up.

In some ways that 5 page author's note altered my perception of our main characters, Jenna and Mitch. I won't say much about the story since other reviewers have that covered. What I will say is that Tessa Blake deserves an award for having the guts- as all authors do- to put her heart, soul and 12 years of re-writes out there in booklandia.

At the end of it, she did her best and that's good enough for me. For that, this book gets 3 stars.

With all the sparkle of a Jennifer Crusie novel, Midnight Confessions reels you in from the very first scene and doesn’t let go until the end. Jenna, still miserably in love with her ex, is nevertheless attending his engagement party when she meets Mitch, a soap star. Mitch isn’t really her type, and she’s still in love with the undeserving Drew anyway, but as a favour to her friend she agrees to go out with Mitch.
She’s supposed to be pumping him for soap-star gossip, but somehow they seem to spend more time talking about her. He’s so easy to talk to, and there’s certainly a spark of something there—but he’s not her type, right? Except every time she tells herself that, we are less and less convinced, and Mitch is so determined, and so hot
Sometimes I wanted to shake Jenna! Mitch was so perfect, so patient and understanding, and so hot—did I mention the hotness??—and she was so determinedly looking for love in all the wrong places. But her obsession with Mr Wrong and the insecurity of her bruised heart were very believable. Jenna and Mitch were both great characters, and their verbal sparring was very amusing.
In fact, the narration all the way through, told from Jenna’s point of view, was very entertaining. How could you not love a book whose first line is: “The only reason I even agreed to come to Drew’s engagement party was so I could see if his fiancee is prettier than me? Jenna is an easy heroine to get behind: her insecurities and her yearning for a lost love would be familiar to most women, and by the end of the book I was rooting for her to sort herself out and find happiness with the delectable Mitch.

What happens when you crash your ex-boyfriend's engagement party (who does that by the way)? Well if you are Jenna you meet Mr. Right who you convince yourself is Mr. Wrong because he doesn't check off all the boxes on an arbitrary list of what makes a man Mr. Right. This was a great change of pace from Ms. Blake's previous series. This is a great story that just shows the needless problems that can arise due to poor communication. Jenna has a lot of baggage that she brings to this relationship/friendship and quite frankly there were times I wanted to reach into the book and just slap her. However, in the end she figured out what was important. I liked Mitch. He was a great guy that the readers will fall in love with. I love this author's writing style and look forward to more books to come.

I voluntarily read and review an advanced reader copy of this book provided to me by the author.

Crashing your ex boyfriends engagement party really isn't a wise thing to do, that is unless you meet a wonderful man at the party. Jenna could not let her relationship with Drew go as he was her Mr. Right, but her relationship with Mitch takes her down the path to realizing what she always thought she wanted was not really what she needed. Mr. Wrong actually is perfect. This story had great characters, a well written plot and enough emotion, humor and angst to keep the readers interest. It was a great book that I highly recommend.

Jenna goes along to her ex-boyfriends engagement party, which isn't a good thing to do when his Fiancée is everything you are not! Her best friend, who has gone with her, is chatting to a guy at the bar so Jenna heads home early. When Kari - Jenna's best friend - tells her that the guy at the bar wanted to know all about her she was surprised and didn't show much interest but Kari insisted that she went on a date with him.

Sadly, Jenna has a list of things that make up her ideal Mr Right and unfortunately Mitch does not come close to that list! When eventually Jenna realises that he could, infact, be the one, he has plans with another woman for the whole weekend! Can Jenna win Mitch back? Can Mitch see past all Jenna's issues? Can they work it all out?

I loved this book, there is so much happening in it that I couldn't put it down!

I read ALOT. I watch soaps alot. I don't think I've ever read a celebrity romance where the hero is a soap actor, and Mitch may be my new book boyfriend!

Jenna thinks she knows exactly what she wants out of a boyfriend and he's marrying someone else. While she's drowning her sorrows at her ex's engagement party, Jenna meets sexy soap actor Mitch, and later reluctantly agrees to go out with him as a favor for her soap-obsessed bestie. But everything about Mitch is all wrong in Jenna's mind since he doesn't check off any of the boxes on her perfect-man list. So they agree to be friends, but Jenna realizes that she may have had things wrong about Mr. Wrong. But then an untimely return appearance by Jenna's ex just throws everything out of whack. Mr. Wrong is a fun, sexy story of what happens when the guy who you are sure is all wrong just may be everything that you never knew you needed.

I fell in love instantly with Mitch and Jenna. There's a lot of miscommunication between them that prevents them from getting together, but Tessa Blake does a fabulous job of making the reader want Jenna and Mitch to get together in spite of it. In fact, I devoured this book in a single night, staying up waaaay to late in order to finish it. Mostly, because I had to see how far Jenna could push her "friend" Mitch before he broke. And when Mitch reached his breaking point, it was an explosive moment that led to a beautiful, tender encounter.

But as in any good story, The Conflict must arise. And Jenna's Grand Gesture to make things right with Mitch gave me butterflies. I've gone back to re-read it more than once!

Mr. Wrong is set in 2005, and there are tons of inside jokes for soap opera fans. There's a lot of flirty banter and sexually charged moments between the MCs, but only one sexual encounter, which I think says alot about Blake's ability to craft an endearing story that doesn't rely on the smut factor. It's a beautiful, heartwarming, funny, quirky story about letting life happen because what it is that you think you might want could be totally wrong.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Jenna gets talked into going to her Ex's Mr. Perfect's engagement party by her BFF Kari- Not the best idea she has had, but she is full of those. Awkwardness is the name of Jenna's game, Kari determined to change that, along with her own social status in the DayTime Soap fangirl online base she belongs too, Kari meets Mitch at the bar of the party, this actor of soaps will be the key to what they both need... Jenna just doesn't see it that way yet.
What starts out as Jenna doing a " favor " for Kari snooping around for the inside scoop from Mitch, turns into a confusing and challenging battle of wits, hormones, insecurities, jealousy and that one moment- all the crazies finally make sense, you just hope it is not just in your head and that it's not too late!
I enjoyed this book, even if I wanted to reach into my Kindle and smack this poor girl! I have been her, still am some days, hopefully not to this extent. This book depicted men in reality very well, with just enough added- ahh yes take me back to fiction where people are beautiful, and I want to stay here blissfully unaware.
Loved the banter between primary and supported characters- felt like these were all close people I knew, or was reading a dream sequence. Humorous, with a sexy undertone at play in the background. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes dramatic, humorous, sweet n hot romance based reads.

Jenna, still mending her wounded heart a year after her break up from long time boyfriend Drew, finds herself side by side with her best friend Kari at Drew's engagement party. He supposed ticked all the boxes, educated, good career, loving family, money in his pocket. Her Mr. Right type was now marrying someone else.

Mitch the complete opposite in every way, soap opera actor, rough around the edges, but a sultry voice, swagger and killer cowboy boots make Jenna take notice. However, Jenna's warped sensibilities he is the definition of Mr. Wrong. With Kari the queen of soap opera spoilers her main goal, she pushes Jenna and Mitch to date in the hopes that she gain access to the latest tv gossip.

Connections are made, but Jenna doesn't see Mitch as her Mr. Right, she has created this box to compartmentalize her feelings and isn't willing to let go. The push and pull of the realtionship moves with the story, miscommunication, misjudgments and mishaps abound. Can Jenna free herself from her skewed view of Mr. Right and Wrong.

WOW!!! Ok so this was my first book that I have read by Tessa Blake but it definitely won't be my last!!
I absolutely loved this book!!
Mitch was one of those strong and somewhat silent types. Not really a bad boy but damn he was bad with that voice!! Just from reading this he had me swooning imagining that voice!!
Jenna will drive you crazy with her going back and forth from being "just friends" to wanting more!!
I loved their chemistry though from the beginning!! And the sexual tension between them, hot damn!! I will admit when they finally had sex with each other I did shed a few tears!! It was was quite unforgettable!! Very swoon worthy!!
I definitely recommend this book!! You will definitely not be disappointed! I can't wait to see what Tessa has for us next!!!

I didn't like the blurb. When a person/character has mapped out their plans of perfect man/wedding they become too blind, stubborn and discriminating. They don't give a chance to another person and always have pre conceived ideas, becoming too judgmental of other men. It turns out the read gets boring with all the resistance in accepting the love of other men.
P.S: this is me having preconceived ideas of the book based on the blurb. Read something similar and it was torture.

Tessa Blake knows how to tell a story! I love Jenna and Mitch's story because it has all the essentials...quirky, funny, steamy and a happily ever after. There were times I wanted to wring Jenna's neck but she came through at the end and Mitch is just yummy! Take the time and enjoy Mr. Wrong because you won't regret it!

If you are looking for a fun weekend read, you can't go wrong with Midnight Confessions. Reminiscent of a U.S Bridget Jones Diary, I found the main character, Jenna, to be both admirable and delightfully flawed. She speaks for all of us who have found ourselves hung up on the wrong guy for all the wrong reasons and we can only hope to find someone as understanding, patient, and steadfast as Mitch (and hot...hot is good too, but hey, fiction). It's a quick read, and while there are no great surprises here, the dialogue is smart and fast and the scenarios are not as irritatingly implausible as you find in the average story set in New York city (hell, she even admits her apartment costs more than half her salary!). It's a fun story that will leave you in a better mood than when you started it.

When life clearly belongs in a soap opera. That's pretty much Jenna's life in a pinch and just like a soap opera, it has its fair share of ups and downs, misunderstandings, a yummy-though-not-her-"type" guy, and one hell of a romantic story... no long lost twin though.

Clearly, I loved the story and though it gathered up dust for a while due to a much too busy schedule, I almost read it in one sitting (darn the need to sleep!) I loved Jenna in all her insecurities, trust issues, and just plain neurotics. To counterbalance her, there's Mitch with his positive outlook, self-assurance, and quasi endless patience.

Basically it's a good read that focuses on the characters and the sigh-worthy romance. This is the first time I have read Labrecque's work and I'll be sure to hunt more of her novels. Love when I discover new authors with such enjoyable novels.

This is a fun story about a young career woman vacillating between two men, the one who dumped her (and now wants her back as his career is failing due to drinking), and the one who she thinks is not her type. It takes her a while to realize the new guy is the right one, and even then she seems to self-sabotage the relationship. There's a small subplot related to her marketing career. Luckily all turns out well in the end on both fronts. The heroine is likable, even though at times you just want to shake her!

Good book!! Don't know if it was too realistic. How many soap opera actors that could have their pick of the crop would keep coming back for more from the girl who just wants to be friends?? Other than that I liked the flawed main character Jenna and Mitch was a great guy (but why did he keep coming back?? ). Good beach read!!

Solid story but

I wanted to like this story but it just didn't click for me. This was the first time I've read this author but I'm going to give her another chance and read one more book. Sometimes readers and characters don't get along which is not a negative reflection on the author and I think this is one of those times.

I was anxious to read this book after seeing teasers, and I liked it. I loved Mitch, I got a kick out of the soap opera world, but, as others have said, Jenna was more difficult to like. She realized more than once that she was a crappy friend, selfish and self-involved, but she made minimal effort to change. That said, that's pretty much real life. We go through stuff, "get it," but the old patterns are hard to break. I saw that in her, until finally she screwed it up so badly that she went as low as she could go.

I don't really like it when characters jump to conclusions without letting the other person explain and/or apologize, but I've gotta admit, Mitch was totally justified in feeling that way. Jenna had run hot and cold on him one too many times by then. And, true to Mitch form, he forgave her pretty easily.

There were so many ways this book worked. At one point (about 40%), I was frustrated enough with Jenna I almost wanted to stop reading. But I kept at it, and it was worth it! In fact, I couldn't put it down by 60%! I enjoyed seeing Jenna and Mitch become friends, learning about each others lives and just spending time together. I liked the scenes with Ryan giving her advice, and the office stuff really rounded out her character. Overall, I loved the characters I was supposed to love and hated the ones I should hate.

I can't help wondering if Mitch's POV would have added some depth. There were secrets we never really got to know (the ex-girlfriend who cheated, for example), and some of that would have helped us understand his willingness to put up with Jenna's nonsense. It might have helped us see her in a better light, as well.

This maybe sounds like a more negative review than I mean it to, because there was so much I loved about this book. I guess the issues seem kind of big because it was difficult to like Jenna at times, and she was the only POV we got to see.

I'll definitely be reading other books by Tessa Blake and totally recommend it to readers who can be patient with the heroine. It's worth the effort.

I'm having a love hate relationship with this book...which, in my opinion, is great. I love a book that can make me want to throw it across the room at times. This book hit the mark in that respect. It is not at all what I was expecting. I was expecting a light quick HEA read; what I found were characters that I'm not sure that I would like in real life but that are totally real.

I didn't particularly like Jenna but that is ok, just like in real life I don't have to like everyone. What I did like about her was that she behaved like a real person. She has emotions that are all over the map and is slightly self centered. However, she begins to recognize that character flaw and attempts to correct her behaviour. Personal growth is great to see in fictional characters because it means they are being crafted and developed by the author to mimic real people.

Right from the get go I liked Mitch. He is nurturing and empathic. He is many women's fantasy boyfriend. However, he too behaves like a real person. He jumps to conclusions and expects Jenna to implicitly understand his motivations behind his actions. There are a few scenes where I want to shake him and tell him that Jenna needs more of an explanation, because they are not always on the same page, actually sometimes I think they were reading different scripts, hence much of their confusion and conflict.

So I think this will be my current favourite love to hate it book. I loved that the characters were real and acted in a way that millions of people around the globe do everyday. I hated it because I wanted to point out to Jenna, and occasionally Mitch, that they just needed to have an open and honest conversation about what they were feeling. But, they get to the honest communication in the end and even if the story doesn't end the way I want it to, it concludes how a real life story might and in my opinion that is all any of us can hope for.

Jenna is one mixed up woman when the man she thought she would marry told her she was the type of girl you live with but do not marry and then picked another woman to be his wife. She wants to be over this jerk and tries by devoting her life to her job.

Mitch is a day-time soap opera star and a really nice guy that falls for Jenna despite her being sad, undecided what she wants and generally being a pain for a girlfriend. He takes his time to get to know her and really listens to how she feels about her family, her childhood and lack of social skills and insecurities. She has an idea in her head of Mr. Right and Mitch is jut Mr. Wrong with his cowboy boots, plaid shirt with snaps and easy manner. It also helps that Mitch is walking male eye candy hot with a sexy voice too.

Mr. Wrong is filled with lots of emotion and that is what saves the story along with a happy ending.

I borrowed Mr. Wrong from the Kindle Unlimited lending library.

A year ago Jenna and her Mr. Right’s relationship ended and she doesn’t believe that she will meet anyone who could match up. Her bestie has convinced her to attend his engagement party so now she is there drowning her sorrows.

While there she meets soap opera star Mitch and he is everything she doesn’t want in a man but she agrees to a date to help out her soap opera obsessed bestie who wants the inside track.

Will they be able to solve all the misunderstandings, jumping to conclusions and insecurities before it is too late and will Jenna realize that what she thinks is her Mr. Wrong is actually the Mr. Right she has been looking for?

I liked the humor and interactions between Mitch and Jenna and they shared great chemistry. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

I fell in love with Jenna right from the very first page. She's a delightful female main character, and because we get the story from her POV we get all her self-doubts, checklists, weaknesses as well as strengths. Sparks fly when she first meets Mitch but she's convinced herself that he's all wrong for her so she tries to keep him in the friend zone instead. Mitch has the hot sexy cowboy thing going for him, along with a voice that melts panties on contact. The story follows her and her best friend as Jenna gets to know Mitch, considers reconciling with her ex, and finally choosing what her heart has wanted all along - if she hasn't already blown her chance.

This story was brilliantly written and had me enthralled from the very start. The Author's Note at the end is a brilliant addition - worth buying the book for all by itself.

WOW! I really enjoyed this book! From a young age and into adulthood, Jenna just wanted to be accepted. Growing up not having much, being looked down upon, working hard to make the grades, and working hard at her job, she might not have been the brightest crayon in the box when came to just being herself and not fitting everything into perfect little boxes. Her BFF, Kari, has always been there for her. Especially after Jenna's break up with her boyfriend, Drew. Kari talks her into going to Drew's engagement party at a local bar. Fortunately for Jenna, she meets someone who doesn't meet her criteria of Mr. Right.
Mitch doesn't care about criterias. To Jenna he's Mr. Wrong.
You really need to read this! You won't be disappointed.

I got so bored and fed up with this girl, I hate characters like her! The girl looking for "Mr. Right", the one with the long checklist that she is sure that'll make her happy and is so obsessed with it that she's blinded to the fact that mr. Right treats her like crap and any other possibilities! This type of girl always come across as selfabsorbed, snobbish, b*tchy and a social climber! The one thing I did like about this book, is that for once, this guy didn't just take it like a lovesick puppy, that was satisfying! The only reason I continued reading was because her situation at work seemed off to me from the beginning, but even that was so obvious that it was expected! Even so, I couldn't bring myself to finished it!

Loved, loved, loved this book. A broken-hearted heroine still pining for her ex, a hot actor with cowboys boots and a sexy voice, and a friend who's obsessed with soap operas. What could go wrong? Well, everything. And that's why I couldn't put this book down. I read it in one sitting (went to bed at 2 a.m.) The story also came with its own flashback to 2005 when apartments still had landlines, online forums were trendy, and social media didn't really exist. And the heroine is funny as hell (in her own wicked way). If you've ever stayed 'stuck' on a guy well beyond the end of your relationship, then you should relate to this story.

SOAP OPERA @ ITS BEST !!!

This is my first book by Tessa Blake, but won't be my last. The characters, well, yeah about that, Jenna?, I wanted to throw my Kindle in hopes she'd pop out so I could smack her silly, Mitch?, ahh Mitch, I wanted to grab him and love him to death, making him forget Jenna, Drew?, yeah i wanted to kick his butt. Those characters were well though out, great job, Tessa. My only complaint is there should have been a little more romantic, loving times between them, not just the one time., all in all, great story that I highly recommend.

A humorous look at what happens when you're convinced a guy isn't the one for you, Mr. Wrong is an enjoyable read with a super perfect hero. Mitch is amazingly sexy, even if he does wear cowboy boots (I don't do cowboy boots, despite living in Texas). In the beginning it's hard to understand where the heroine is coming from in not liking Mitch, but when she admits to herself she likes him but doesn't know what to do about it she becomes easy to relate to. I recommend this one, and I also recommend joining the facebook group she shares with Claire Kingsley, Alpha Ever After. It's a fun place!

I would gladly allow Mitch to help me anytime

I couldn't put this one down. You have Jenna who has so many trust issues, mainly she doesn't trust those she should, and she trusts those she shouldn't. Upon meeting Mitch-who is gloriously amazing in every way, she has to battle all her inner demons to figure out what she wants and needs in life. This is a beautiful story about perseverance, love, and self discovery. I am dying for Kari's story! You won't be disappointed with this one!

Tammi Labrecque has the gift of making a not-usually-romance-reader like myself smile at the twists and turns of her love lorn folk. This is set in New York City, and the city always draws me in, but it's the fun and lightness of the story that appeals. I can relate and/or want to be them. I'm always on the lookout for more from this talented writer. The urban fantasy ones are my faves but this comes close.
