Una borsa con qualche vestito e le matite per disegnare. Quando la moglie gli dice che lo lascia, il protagonista di questa storia non prende altro: carica tutto in macchina e se ne va di casa. Del resto che altro pu¨° fare? Ha trentasei anni, una donna che l'ha tradito, un lavoro come pittore di ritratti su commissione che porta avanti senza troppa convinzione dopo aver messo da parte ben altre aspirazioni artistiche, e la sensazione generale di essere un fallito. Cos¨ª inizia a vagabondare nell'Hokkaid¨, tra paesini di pescatori sulla costa e ry¨kan (le tipiche pensioni a conduzione famigliare giapponesi) sulle montagne. Very typical Murakami story: I would say the style is something between and . Here's the Murakami bingo after book one (taking some liberties):

Up until around midpoint, I thought it was going to be a great novel. A painter - who is the typical Murakami protagonist: honest, simple and somehow a magnet to strange people - drives through Japan in a reaction to get as far as possible from his wife who just left him. He ends up in a house on the side of a mountain, where another painter used to live. He discovers a fascinating painting from him and a very mysterious wealthy neighbour, who offers him a large amount of money in exchange for a portrait of him. Thing slowly get crazy (just like The Little People and the goat of 1Q84) and the climax was surprizing. I pretty much got jump scared reading that scene haha!
Past that however, the tension comes down and we're left with no clear direction. The wealthy neighbour (Menshiki) is steering the story and the protagonist is reacting to it. Meanwhile, he's discovering more and more about the painter whose house he is now living in, but other than that, it's unclear what he's actually looking for/trying to do. There are some connections to Nazi Germany, but nothing substantial yet (prob. more in Vol. 2 I guess!) Nothing like Manchuria in Wind-up Bird Chronicle.
Maybe it's just that I'm getting used to his tricks, but the characters seem a bit... recycled. We'll see how volume 2 develops, but so far I hesitated between 3 and 4 stars.

July 17, 2022I?ve read the book ¡°Die Ermordung des Commendator?? written by Haruki Murakami. This novel is the perfect example for a typical plot of Murakami, because there are not only myths, magic and surrealism existing, but also his use of useless numerous sex scenes, which are described as a flat and facile subject-specific book, are obvious. . But nevertheless he is a talented writer and I?m very amazed how he creates such tension where normally none is supposed to be. But on the other hand I do not appreciate that the roman ends in the middle of the story. This first part of the book isn?t nearly finished and to publish half of a book makes it not possible to judge his work. I?m so glad I`ve lend it, buying his story is far too expansive for only half of the story.

In Germany, Murakami's latest tome is published in two parts, the first one entitled: "Killing Commendatore 1: An Idea Appears" - and you know why? Because one of the characters in this book is an idea. Yes. An idea. Welcome to the world of Murakami.
Our main protagonist is a 36-year-old painter though. He (who remains unnamed) has just been left by his wife and retreats into a solitary house in the Japanese mountains to rethink his life. While trying to figure out what to do next, he is confronted with the destinies of two other men who, at the crossroads of their lives, have made decisions that went on to haunt them. For once, there is the world-famous painter who used to live in the lonely house and who hid the mysterious painting "Killing Commendatore" in the attic. Then, there's the protagonist's mysterious neighbour from the other side of the valley who seems to be impossible to paint. What secrets do these men and their paintings hide and reveal?
While the story starts out in a realistic manner, it turns more and more surreal, and there are scenes that read like hallucinations (in fact, the protagonists wonder whether all of this is actually happening). I really enjoyed how Murakami connects all the threads and, by that, the lives of the three men. While the famous painter is not there in person, only through his house and what it contains (he suffers from dementia and lives in a retirement home), the narrator and the neighbour develop a peculiar friendship. Through art and life, more and more layers of all three men are laid bare - and they reflect each other, but these mirror images are created with funhouse mirrors, which keeps the reader guessing about the differences and similarities between their experiences.
Of course, art itself plays a major role: Abstract vs. concrete painting, Western vs. Japanese styles, the question whether art can capture the essense of a person, the role of the artist in society etc. - I love that, it is like a more benign version of feat. .
Is art truer than reality? Reading this book, you are certainly starting to think that this might be the case. Does the painting "Killing Commendatore" contain the famous painter's secret about his past in 1938 Vienna? Will the mysterious neighbour find the courage to look into his dark family secret? And what kind of art will be the future of our protagonist? Maybe the idea will tell us in "Killing Commendatore 2: The Moving Metaphor" (here's my review for Vol. 2).

Dieses Buch war wieder gro?e Murakami-Liebe. Zwar war es sehr typisch f¨¹r ihn, er ist seinem ¨¹blichen Muster absolut treu geblieben, allerdings war die Umsetzung so sch?n, wenn auch nat¨¹rlich mal wieder verst?rend. Murakamis Romane entf¨¹hren mich irgendwie immer in eine ganz entschleunigte Welt und das liebe ich auch so sehr an ihnen. Wer Murakami mag, kann definitiv dazu greifen, allerdings kann der Autor seine Gegner auch mit diesem Buch nicht herumbekommen, behaupte ich.

La realidad, como vemos, no es algo tan sencillo de dilucidar. A lo largo de su extenso e inconfundible cuerpo narrativo, Murakami lleva ocup¨¢ndose de emborronar la frontera entre el mundo de los sentidos y el de las fantas¨ªas on¨ªricas hasta conseguir que ambos se solapen como dos caras de una misma moneda. Novelas como Kafka en la orilla, After Dark, Cr¨®nica del p¨¢jaro que da cuerda al mundo, El fin del mundo y un despiadado pa¨ªs de las maravillas o, muy especialmente, la orwelliana 1Q84 constituyen hitos contempor¨¢neos del cautivador realismo m¨¢gico al que Murakami suele arrojar a sus personajes.
La muerte del comendador es la ¨²ltima incorporaci¨®n a esta larga lista de novelas que desaf¨ªan los patrones establecidos de la literatura convencional. Su an¨®nimo protagonista es un afamado retratista de 37 a?os que se sumerge en una profunda crisis existencial despu¨¦s de que su pareja le pida el divorcio de manera absolutamente inesperada. Sumido en una devastadora espiral de confusi¨®n y tristeza, el narrador se embarca en un err¨¢tico viaje por carretera en direcci¨®n al norte del pa¨ªs, donde finalmente se instala en una casa aislada en mitad de las monta?as que pertenece al padre de un viejo conocido suyo. 3.8 A veces siento que estoy leyendo el borrador de un escritor novel (hay di¨¢logos extra?os y demasiadas descripciones innecesarias), y a veces siento que estoy leyendo una aut¨¦ntica genialidad (lo que este libro se propone indagar es muy complejo: la nada y su relaci¨®n con la creaci¨®n y el arte, y lo logra a su manera). Al final tir¨® m¨¢s a lo segundo, as¨ª que necesito saber qu¨¦ ocurre en la continuaci¨®n de esta historia.

Este escritor es mi zona de confort; me los voy espaciando porque antes o despu¨¦s acabar¨¦ toda su obra, hasta hoy, claro.
Una delicia sumergirse en la trama de este autor. En este caso, nuestro protagonista, un pintor de arte; despu¨¦s de que su mujer le diga que ya no le apetece seguir viviendo con ¨¦l, se ir¨¢ a vivir a la casa del padre de un antiguo compa?ero de universidad. Y es ah¨ª donde empieza esta maravillosa historia que gira en torno a un cuadro que encuentra en el desv¨¢n de la casa. A partir de ese momento el autor nos sumerge en su mundo, esos mundos peculiares que crea Murakami.
Muy recomendable.

En La muerte del comendador (primera parte) (2017), Murakami (1949-) sigue siendo Murakami. Su perfecci¨®n formal es absoluta, su pulcritud de prosa, su meticulosidad, sus originales met¨¢foras, sus idas y venidas por la mente de sus personajes, la creaci¨®n de un ambientaci¨®n compleja, pero cre¨ªble, sus referencias art¨ªsticas, tanto asi¨¢ticas como occidentales, su abierta sexualidad, su toque de misterio y, sobre todo, ese peque?o universo fant¨¢stico que tan bien acopla a la realidad. Murakami, en resumen, recrea en esta novela ese maravilloso mundo propio que hace que lo reconozcas como uno de los mejores escritores actuales y que, adem¨¢s, sea comprensible y disfrutable.
Sin embargo, en esta historia de un sencillo y cabal aspirante a pintor en su viaje inici¨¢tico en busca de su identidad, no he tenido la sensaci¨®n de totalidad que otras veces, no he sentido la misma intensidad, aunque no podr¨ªa decir exactamente el porqu¨¦. October 15, 2018Para los amantes de Haruki, sabemos que leerlo es entrar en otra dimensi¨®n. No importa lo que suceda al final sino lo que suceda. No importa mucho lo que cuente sino c¨®mo lo haga. Lo importante es no esperar nada para que llegue todo. Y lleg¨®.
La pintura, la soledad, las relaciones complejas, el sexo, lo real se combina con la irreal. Nunca es posible explicar en detalle de qu¨¦ van sus libros porque van de todo y de nada pero maso menos de esto va ¨¦ste.
Es la primera parte de un libro que le sobran las E?s: entusiasma, entretiene, enamora, es enigm¨¢tico, extra?o, esot¨¦rico. No tengo ni idea de c¨®mo va a terminar, de qu¨¦ va a suceder, de c¨®mo lo va a terminar, y por eso, me es imposible ponerle estrellas. Ser¨ªa injusto hacerlo. Aunque esta primera parte me haya parecido de 5 estrellas, s¨®lo es la mitad, y a veces, la segunda mitad de las cosas puede complicar todo.
No me gusta nada esta estrategia comercial de dejar un libro a la mitad (imagino que las razones son comerciales, o no?), siendo de mala memoria, y de las que no se saltan en Netflix la secci¨®n de "esto sucedi¨® en el cap¨ªtulo anterior", c¨®mo voy a recordar en qu¨¦ se qued¨® el libro y de qu¨¦ trata cuando salga la segunda parte, que ni siquiera tiene aun fecha de impresi¨®n?
Eso es lo que no me gusta de este libro. El resto, es pura delicia literaria.

Omaggio (inatteso) al Grande Gatsby. Anche se ¨¨ un romanzo che Murakami ha amato. Mi ¨¨ piaciuto e l'ho letto d'un fiato. Aspettiamo il prossimo volume per il giudizio finale.

Glavni (neimenovani) pripoveda? novog Murakamijevog romana, napisanog u prvom licu, je slikar. Ponovo je to mu?karac koji ?ivi sam, ima 36 godina, voli da priprema hranu, slu?a klasi?nu muziku i d?ez. Gledaju?i tako, mo?da su u pravu oni koji tvrde da Haruki pi?e uvek istu knjigu. Ipak, ovde je potpuni fokus na umetnosti. Ne samo na likovnoj umetnosti, ve? na kreativnom procesu stvaranja uop?te. A ima i toliko toga za nas, sa ove druge strane, koji umetnost samo konzumiramo. Nakon ?to pro?ita? Murakamijeve opise promatranja i analiziranje slika, do?e ti da izabere? tek nekoliko dela na drugom spratu Narodnog muzeja (mo?da ili ) i da se vra?a? nedelju za nedeljom kako bi posmatrao samo njih.
Naravno, knjigom sam odu?evljen zato ?to Murakami sjajno pi?e. Zanimljivo je ?itati skoro svaki njegov pasus, ?ak i kad prepri?ava jutarnje vesti sa radio iili vremensku prognozu, pripremu "jednostavne ve?ere" ili kako je ko obu?en.
I likovi su odli?ni. Ljudi kakve bi voleo da ima? za sagovornike. To su osobe koje razgovaraju o portretu Van Gogovog po?tara (i koji znaju da je taj po?tar iz Arla), slu?aju Verdijeve opere u Kataniji na Siciliji i znaju ?ta su bile poslednje re?i Imanuela Kanta.
S druge strane, ovo mi je osmi pro?itani Murakami i mogu?e da mi je on omiljeni ?ivi pisac, tako da mo?da u mom mi?ljenju ima i ne?eg subjektivnog. Knjiga je sjajna, tako da dok ne proo?itam drugi deo, ponovo se pitam, kad ?e ta Nobelova nagrada?
