Getting Lucky #1

That Second Chance

Rate this book
It was supposed to be an innocent night, celebrating my brother’s birthday. Nothing was supposed to go wrong. We’d vowed to be on our best behavior after all . . .

But it only took one rowdy night with my brothers to flip my world upside down. One unlucky encounter saddled us with a family curse and the promise of doomed relationships. I laughed it off immediately. “Yeah, right, I thought. “A love curse. Ha!

Boy, was I wrong.

Word spreads quickly in a town like mine; rumors about that night soon made us the most eligible yet untouchable bachelors in Port Snow, Maine. As a subject of endless gossip and speculation, I could kiss my dating life goodbye.

It would have stayed that way if Ren Winters, the new girl in town, hadn’t crashed into my life. Brave, beautiful, and smart—her vivacious thirst for a fresh start has given me hope that maybe, just maybe, I can have one too.

Everyone wishes for that second chance . . . but could this really be mine?

When I was in high school I occasionally read books but was consumed by other teenage things so I didn't take the time to appreciate a good book on a cloudy day, wrapped up in a blanket on the couch. It wasn't until I received a Kindle for Christmas one year that my world completely flipped upside down. When looking for books I came across the Contemporary Romance genre and was sold and I haven't turned back since.

You can either find my head buried in my Kindle, listening to inspiring heart ripping music or typing away on the computer twisting and turning the lives of my characters while driving my readers crazy with anticipation.

I currently reside in beautiful Colorado Springs where the sun is always shining and there is a trail waiting to be hiked on every corner. I share a lovely and warm home with the love of my life and my five, four-legged children.

Everything seems more real, more alive, just like the feeling in my heart, pounding, reminding me that no matter how often I deny it, the woman in my arms has a profound effect on me. Like I’ve come back to life after a long stint in purgatory.

With each book I read by Meghan Quinn, I become more in awe of her writing talent. She truly has a gift! THAT SECOND CHANCE was simply perfect! I loved the Hero, the Heroine, their friends & family, and the beautiful picturesque backdrop of Port Snow, Maine. I was consumed by the plot from the start. The story is super angsty, but still had little moments of Meghan Quinn’s signature humor thrown in that was just the icing on the cake. We are reunited with the main characters from “Two Wedding Crashers, Rylee and Beck since the story takes place in the town these two call home.

Griffin is the oldest of four brothers, and these boys are the hottest bachelors in town, but none of the single women of Port Snow will risk getting involved with them. Word has spread throughout the town that they’ve got a love curse placed on them all by a vindictive palm reader. Almost every member of the Knightly family thinks the curse is rubbish, except for Griffin. He suffered a tragic loss not too long after the curse was placed and he’s sworn off love to protect his heart.

Ren is a sweet and delightful woman who has lived a somewhat sheltered life due to being the only child of super overprotective parents. She survived a horrible car crash over a year ago and now that she’s fully on the mend, she wants a change in her life. Ren moves across the country for a job as an algebra teacher in order to get some freedom and spread her wings.

Griffin and Ren’s first encounter would most definitely be considered a “meet cute and soon after it’s as if fate with a little help from Griffin’s siblings, keeps throwing the two together. They’re instantly attracted to each other and their chemistry is hard to deny, but Griffin’s fears are nearly crippling and make for some hardcore angst.

Will love conquer all or will fear tear these two beautiful people apart?

Here are my overall ratings:

Heroes: 5+++++
Heroine: 5+++++
Plot: 5+++++
Angst: 5
Steam: 4.5
Chemistry Between Hero & Heroine: 5+++++

THAT SECOND CHANCE releases tomorrow!!! I hope you all one-click it! You’re going to want to meet all the Knightly brothers because I predict there’s so much more to come in this series that I’m sure is going to be a huge hit!!

This was wholesome, cute, predictable and cheesy in a way that some small-town romances are.
Predictable in a way that made this story safe and comforting to read.

It’s beautifully simplistic and I could not stop listening to the audiobook.

I love stories that follow a set of siblings and that centres around them and/or their families. I adored the family. The humour was great, the way they’d tease each other, the conversations they had, the nonsense they would get up to.

Just an all-round sweet and cosy read.

Griffin traveled to New Orleans to celebrate his brother's birthday. It was supposed to be a fun night for the Knightly brothers - what could possibly go wrong ?! 😬

But a creepy encounter with a palm reader destroyed everything as she cursed them with the curse of love ... 😱

📚 "𝑭𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒅𝒂𝒚 𝒐𝒏 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒃𝒆 𝒃𝒓𝒐𝒌𝒆𝒏 𝑰𝒕 𝒊𝒔𝒏 𝒕 𝒕 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒅𝒔 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒄𝒖𝒓𝒔𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒃𝒆 𝒄𝒖𝒓𝒆𝒅". " 📚

Of course, they thought it was nonsense, until a terrible tragedy struck them.
After that, the rumors in Port Snow Town about the cursed siblings quickly spread, destroying their chances of finding love. 💔

Griffin is the older, responsible and serious brother hoping to take over the family business soon. In the meantime, he's helping everyone in town... And volunteering as a firefighter! 🔥😋

He keeps himself busy to keep his past at bay - because Griffin always thinks of everyone except himself. 💔

📚 “𝑮𝒓𝒊𝒇𝒇𝒊 𝑰 𝒉𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝒔𝒆𝒆𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒔𝒐 𝒂𝒍𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒊𝒕 𝒉𝒖𝒓𝒕𝒔 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒕 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒕.
𝑻𝒂𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂 𝒅𝒆𝒆𝒑 𝒃𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒕𝒉, 𝑰 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒐𝒏 𝒂 𝒇𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝒔𝒎𝒊𝒍𝒆. "𝑰'𝒎 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒂𝒍𝒐𝒏𝒆, 𝑰 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒇𝒐𝒐𝒍𝒔." 📚

All this, until a new girl came to live in town and crashed (literally) into his life. 💙💥
The beautiful and brave Ren Winters came from Los Angeles to start over as an algebra teacher, after going through a traumatic event herself. From the moment they met, Griffin couldn't ignore what he hadn't felt for two years ... hope. 🙏

And although they don't really stand a chance because of the curse, he can't stay away from her. But will Griffin continue to let the curse control his life or will he follow his heart ...? 😱

📚 "𝑺𝒉𝒆'𝒔 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒚𝒇𝒖𝒍.
𝑺𝒉𝒆'𝒔 𝒇𝒖𝒏.
𝑺𝒉𝒆'𝒔 𝒃𝒆𝒂𝒖𝒕𝒊𝒇𝒖𝒍.
𝑺𝒉𝒆'𝒔 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑰 𝒘𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒍𝒐𝒐𝒌 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒊𝒏 𝒂 𝒘𝒐𝒎𝒂𝒏 ...
| 𝑨𝒏𝒅 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑰 𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒚 𝒂𝒘𝒂𝒚 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎. "📚

The fact that Griffin believed he was cursed made my heart break! 💔 But what I loved most is that despite everything he went through, he did not become an angry and moody guy... He might be sad, but always make sure to show optimism. 😍

I also loved Griffins' brothers and their funny banter that added a lot of humor to the story! 😂
But mostly, I loved the location - Meghan Quinn managed to paint such a vivid picture of "Port Snow" that I could actually imagine it, and dammit, I want to go there !!! 💙

📚 "𝑨𝒍𝒍'𝒎 𝒎 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒊𝒔 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒎𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕, 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒊𝒏𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆, 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝑰 𝒄𝒂𝒏 𝒂𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒑𝒂𝒔𝒕 𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒈𝒆𝒕 𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒈𝒆𝒕 𝒂𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒄𝒖𝒓𝒔𝒆 𝒄𝒖𝒓𝒔𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒍𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒍𝒊𝒇𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒔𝒉 𝑰 𝒄𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆." 📚

This book made me smile from start to finish! It is mature but playful, sad but romantic, hopeful and passionate! 🔥
The only thing that bothered me was one scene towards the end, which was too clichéd, even for a cliché lover like me. 😂

It's a romantic comedy with a magical love story of hope and a second chance - and being strong enough to seize this opportunity with two hands, and not give up.💪💙

I can't wait for the next books in the series, about the Griffin's brothers! 💃 (The second book is already published, but each can be read as a standalone).

Port Snow, Maine is not only known for its charming small town feel and it's infamous, melt-in-your-mouth lobster bisque, but for the heart-stopping and ridiculously gorgeous Knightly brothers; Griffin, Rogan, Reid, and Brig. But word traveling through the grapevine is all four of them are completely and utterly untouchable.

Two years ago, the Knightly brothers took a trip to New Orleans to celebrate the youngest brother, Brig, turning twenty-one. During one of their drunken walks back to their hotel, they not so gracefully stumbled over an older woman, holding up a sign to read palms. Feeling bad about breaking her palm reading table, Brig decides to see what his future holds and hands the lady a twenty-dollar bill.

Not believing a word the lady is saying, they drunkenly mock her and call the entire palm reading a hoax. Furious with the boys, she casts a curse over them, her gaze landing directly on Griffin the oldest brother, as she spoke. “Listen to me, to the words I have spoken. From this day on, your love will be broken. It isn’t until your minds have matured, that the weight of this curse will forever be cured. The boys exchange glances, brows creased, confusion written all over their faces . . . yeah right, what a load of crock!

At least that's what they thought . . .

***4 "Moose me!!!" stars***

"All I’m asking for is one moment, this one instance, when I can forget about the past, forget about the curse, and live the life I wish I could have."

If this wasn't a very pleasant surprise!!!!
It wasn't the first time that I've read a book by Meghan Quinn, and i really, really enjoyed it as much as the others!!!
This was a very promising start to a lovely series and I can not wait for the rest of the Knightley brothers's stories!!!! I'm so excited!!!
This book had a little from everything inside... Romance, family, tough moments, funny moments, sexy moments... It was awesome!!!

"The urge is strong, The consequences even stronger. I'm caught between a rock and a hard place."

Everything started a couple of years ago, when the Knightley brothers (four in the number!!!) went a trip in New Orleans and in an awkard drunken moment, they were cursed...
They were cursed with broken love...
A curse that they didn't take very seriously...
But for Griffin that curse became very real, very soon....

"From this day on, your love will be broken. It isn't until your minds have matured that the weight of this curse will forever be cured."

At the present, Griffin Knightley is a hermit who is filling his days with lots of work... He is a volunteer fireman, he is working in his parents's gift shop and his limited free time, he is filling it with helping wherever he is needed...
Love has no place anymore in his life, and he is determined his love life to stay as it is... Non existent!!!!
But then a car accident is happening with the new algebra teacher and his world steadily and slowly is turning upside down...

"I keep busy; it's what helps me not dwell on the past. Always doing something, always moving, always pushing forward. If I don't, then the past eats me alive; my regrets consume me."

Ren, after a bad accident that almost cost her life, is determined to start her life over, away from the overbearing shelter of her parents...
The first day that she is coming to her new resident, in Port Snow, a suicidal moose is changing her life for once again...
The handsome man that rescued her will become a big part of her world and it will be impossible to stay away from him...

"I think it's time you put your past behind you and start living in the present, because if you don't, you very well might miss out on something incredibly special."

Well, from the day of the accident, a kind of frendship is forming between Ren and Griffin... But from both sides, there are deeper feelings involved, feelings that can not be acted upon since a terrible curse is hanging above Griffin's head...
So will they act upon these feelings after all???
Will Griffin defy that said curse and chance a second chance on love???

"She's playful.
She's fun.
She's beautiful.
She's everything I would look for in a woman...
And everything I should stay away from..."

"You got to me, Ren. You got past my defenses, and I couldn't get you out of my head, no matter how hard I tried."

Well, Griffin and Ren were very cute together and on their own... I liked them sooo much!!!
Griffin had lots of baggage upon his shoulders... He had lost the love of his life and he thought that this chapter had closed for him... But then a woman came into his life and his heart starts beating again... But he was too scared to act upon it because of the curse... A curse that he didn't believe in the beginning, but which life proved right very soon...
Ren from the other hand was determined to live her life in the fullest... She was an easygoing and very cute woman full of kindness and humor...
She and Griffin were fitting so good together in every aspect...
Unfortunately, Griffin's fear was standing between them...

"It might have been easier to never have known Griffin the way I do now; each time he pushes me away, my heart splinters."

"Everything seems more real, more alive, just like the feeling in my heart, pounding, reminding me that no matter how often I deny it, the woman in my arms has a profound effect on me. Like I’ve come back to life after a long stint in purgatory."

Well, except those two, there were many people n here that made my day...
First of all, the Knightley brothers and sister were sooo hillarious and sweet... Their antics were so laughable and i can not wait to learn more about these guys!!! I love the way that they were sneaking behind Griffin's back to bring love in his life... After all, they were meddlers.... All of them... Plus the parents!!!!
I also laughed very much with all the town and their gossips... Okay, it felt a little bit too much the way that they were gossiping around and the extensions of gossips were extravagant, but in a way, that's reality with most gossips in small towns!!!! Bahahaha...

"All meddlers, every single one of them."

And as i told you above, i can not wait for the second book "The forever girl" which is about a brother that i liked very much, Rogan, and i was wishing for his story... So, yay me!!!!!
Give me more of the Knightley brothers!!!! Bring it on!!!!

"He can't be around her."
"Is it that bad?"
"Yeah, and it doesn't help that he's still in love with her."

A quirky math teacher’s encounter with a moose and consequently the town’s most untouchable hottie turns her move from L.A. to Port Snow in her best life decision ever.

That Second Chance is an enjoyable escape, full of warmth, charm and wit in which we meet Griffin Knightly, fudge shop owner, yummy volunteer firefighter and cursed widower who saves the vivacious Ren Winters on her first day in town from a kamikaze moose.

But even though they are perfect for each other and all of Griffin’s endearing yet meddlesome family is pushing him towards her, he needs to overcome his past loss and get rid of his broken love curse before he can look forward to That Second Chance he’s wished for.

Griffin and Ren are fantastic together, their attraction palpable. Ren is quirky and really fun to read and I loved getting to know Griffin through his friends and family and the deep relationship he shares with them and the town he very obviously cares for.

With her effervescent charisma and endearing characters, Meghan Quinn constantly produces feel-good, lighthearted love stories you’ll want to devour.

That Second Chance is book #1 of the Getting Lucky series by Meghan Quinn. It is a standalone contemporary romance, told from both points of view, and has a happy ending. No cliffhanger.

I absolutely freakin' loved this first book in the new series about small-town Maine's Knightly brothers. It reminded me a bit of a sexed up (and a bit humerous) version of Robyn Carr's Virgin River series. I loved getting to know each of the four gorgeous brothers and can't wait to read each of their stories!

Briefly, this one is about Griffin--who is the future owner of his family's confectionery shop. He's also a volunteer fire fighter, and that's how he meets the pretty, quirky, adorable Algebra teacher named Ren. Ren has moved across country to start a new, independent life (away from a well-meaning, helicopter parent), but minutes after arriving in her new town has a car accident, and is rescued by Griffin. Sparks fly, Ren ends up are renting a house (owned by another Knightly brother) just down the street from Griffin, and the two of them become
'friends'. Griffin would like more, but he is terrified of falling for Ren because of a curse placed on his brothers by a palm reader years ago. Yes, you read that correctly.

Will Griffin let his fears get in the way of the best thing to happen to him in years?

I have to admit, even though I loved Griff, at times he frustrated me. He let what was purely a coincidence regarding a loved one and 'the curse' rule his life. At times I wanted to slap him silly. But when he finally let the courageous, adorable Ren into his life fully, and saw how good it could be, I wanted to jump for joy!

Fans of small town romance that's filled with delightful, quirky secondary characters and a hero and heroine that you'll root hard for--you're going to love this story! I couldn't put it down--I wanted it to go on and on. I'm a big fan of Meghan Quinn--she's my go- to for sexy, funny, feel-good romance.

5 big stars

Check out all of my reviews at:

THAT SECOND CHANCE (Getting Lucky Book 1) by Meghan Quinn is a new contemporary romance set in quaint, small town Port Snow, Maine. This is the first book, hopefully of four, featuring the Knightly brothers and their search for true love after being cursed by a fortune teller in NOLA.

Ren Winters is lucky to be alive. After surviving a chain reaction crash on an L.A. freeway and a year of recovery, she is ready to move on with her life and out from under the constant excessive worry from her mother. She accepts a new job teaching algebra clear across the country in a small town in Maine. A moose vs. car encounter on her first day is not what she was expecting, but it puts her right where she needs to be, in the arms of a handsome volunteer firefighter.

Griffin Knightly has always been the responsible oldest brother of the four Knightly brothers. They are four of the hottest bachelors in town, but small town gossip has left them untouchable. Coming home with a curse from New Orleans, Griffin suffers a loss that makes him a believer and women stay away. He fills his life with the family business, volunteering on the fire department and many other civic groups. When called out for a car crash, he rescues a hysterical Ren.

Ren cannot believe that this handsome man lives right down the street from her new home and is willing to introduce her to her new hometown. Griffin is trying to stay away from the new teacher, who is funny, quirky and sweet, but his family keeps throwing them together. The chemistry between Ren and Griffin is strong, but is it strong enough to defeat Griffin’s fears?

I absolutely loved this romance and all of the Knightly boys! Ms. Quinn captured my heart with this family and small town. The dialogue is spot on between the siblings with just the right amount of love and snark. All of the characters were fully fleshed out and believable. The sex in this romance is explicit and hot and the slow build-up to it made me as anxious as the characters. This is one of those books that you read quickly to get to the HEA and are completely engrossed in the romance and yet when it is over, you want more.

I highly recommend this romance and I cannot wait to read the other Knightly boys stories!

So many good things in this book! I love when a story is set in a small town, especially one in Maine. The author described this touristy town so well that I want to live there and I want to get to know each and every member of this town.

Another bonus was that the hero had 3 brothers and a sister who all butted into his life constantly. They were a fun addition to this book and I can't wait until we get a book on each of the brothers.

Our main couple, Ren and Griffin were adorable together. As you read in the blurb, there is a curse associated with Griffin and his brothers. Because of this, most of the book is about these two dancing around a friendship that they both want to take to the next level.

Griffin is gun shy and he has a good reason for it. I'm not usually one who likes it if a character keeps the other at a distance but it's a very small distance. They spend a lot of time together getting to know each other and that made me happy to experience it with them. I truly felt like we got a good amount of them together despite not being a couple for most of it.

All the characters in this series were fun and like-able. I'm looking forward to the next book!

You know listening to this audio book is like going for vacation. Destination idyllic tiny place where you only have beautiful serene scenery. Days and days that beautiful scenery is all you get. And the biggest excitement is watching a turtle/ goat/ cow crossing a street.

I don't hate the book but I don't like it either. I guess I am expecting more wit from Miss Quinn. After all she is the author of The Virgin Romance Novelist which I love very much. Hey we got all the small town culture, food, beach, idyllic serene scenery. There are plenty of outdoor activity to choose from. Plus put into the mix a handsome eligible bachelor who has no flaw. Oh Except he is believing a hoax curse that he got during a drunken night.

To be honest I don't know what I feel about that kind of man.

This was just your average small town romance. She's new in town and he hasn't dated since his wife died after he and his brothers were cursed. He's determined that any woman he loves will die, so he won't risk it. But the new teacher in town has him intrigued. They start falling fore each other, but he keeps pushing her away. They go camping. They build furniture. I wanted more from the story and the relationship. I find it annoying when it's the character themselves pushing the other away for various reason, and that was literally the only thing stopping them from being together. This wasn't bad, just nothing special.

Another solid read from Meghan Quinn.
This one appears to be a first one in a series about four brothers finding love and breaking a curse, a broken love curse, that was cast upon them some time back.
This book ends by giving us a glimpse of what is to come next and it looks promising.

Let me say this before I go into my review...I LOVE MEGHAN QUINN. I genuinely do. I adore the effortless humour she brings to her writing...
So, that’s probably the reason that this book didn’t blow me away. The Knightly brothers have an awesome connection and I loved their banter...but that’s about it. I just felt like I was reading...and reading...and reading, yet not an awful lot was happening, THAT SECOND CHANCE is a slow burn with low to very little drama, so if that’s your thing, then great, I’m sure you will enjoy this book. I totally understand how difficult it must be for authors to try and please EVERY. SINGLE. ONE of their fans with each new book released, which is how I know that my lack of love for this book is my issue and nothing to do with the author, and I won’t be put off reading her books in the future.

4.5 crazy moose stars!!

What does one eccentric teacher, a suicidal moose and one overly hot (but very untouchable) volunteer fireman have in common --- A swoon worthy encounter and an even sweeter second chance at love!

The Knightly brothers - Griffin, Rogan, Reid and Brig. Two years ago they took a trip to New Orleans to celebrate a birthday and came back with the wrath of a palm reader. She cursed them in the love department. Vowed that any and all love would end in ruin.

This is Griffin's story.
His wife ends up passing away shortly after his New Orleans trip. He felt like it was his fault that the love of his life was taken away from him. So he, along with his brothers decide to not let anyone into their lives in fear that something may happen to them. They believe the curse is to be true and don't want to chance it.

Enter in the fun and quirky Ren Winters. After Griffin saves her from a car accident brought on by a suicidal moose, he finds his thoughts turn to her over and over. She thinks about him as well. They end up living near other so see each other often. His family also owns a sweet shop and he has become very community oriented after his wife's passing and helps out with lots of things around Port Snow. So they always seem to be bumping into each other.

Attraction flows and it takes Griffin's busybody family to step in and give him that little shove he needs in the direction of testing the waters with Ren. So a camping trip that was just supposed to be for the family includes a plus one - Ren. Griffin just so happens to be the only person she can camp with. He refuses to let her hole up so closely with his brothers so logical things is for them share to share his tent. His two person tent, one mattress, one sleeping bag and one pillow. He is doomed lol.
Being so close to one another just adds more to the attraction that they both seem to be fighting. One thing leads to the other and walls start to tumble. Mouths meet and soft touches are taken, hidden away in the darkness. Where they are just them. Griffin lets her in, but still only so much. He isn't fully on board being what she needs since he is so afraid that something may happen to her - because of him and that damn curse.

This story is how second chances at love should be taken. He was afraid. He pushed her away, but eventually the strong feelings were too much for him to hold back. Gosh, this made my heart burst!
I loved this read!! It was swoony and heartfelt. It was just so good!

Looking forward to more Knightly men and their love stories!!!

Listened to this on audible and I don't know whether the voice narration was terrible or the story was just so cringy but I didn't enjoy this at all.
I did so many eye rolls that I contemplated DNFing but I persevered for the sake of it.
I didn't believe for a second that the 2 main characters had any more serious feelings beyond sexual Attraction to be honest. There was no substance at all and the family members all seemed so contrived. It's so basic it's a hard pass.

I haven’t been THIS delighted in a book in a while! That Second Chance is one of the most charming romances I’ve ever read. It’s set in the small town of Port Snow, Maine, and legit, Meghan Quinn wrote this small town with so much heart that I wanted to move there. This was my first novel from Meghan Quinn as well, but you can be sure that it won’t be my last. I’ve become a huge fan of her writing and storytelling after reading this book. I’m absolutely dying for more of this series already!

I love discovering a series that centers around a group of family members. With the Getting Lucky series, we follow four brothers who’ve had a love curse placed upon them after a rowdy night in New Orleans. Griffin is the eldest, and a widower. He believes in the love curse because only a few days after he and his brothers were ‘cursed, his wife passes away. He’s been going through the motions for the past few years now, working at the family fudge shop and volunteering as a firefighter. Everything changes when a new resident moves into their quaint small town, and he’s the first to greet her by rescuing her after a moose-related car accident.

Ren needs a new change of pace from her former life in Los Angeles. She chooses to move to the opposite side of the country to be a math teacher. It’s scary and overwhelming, but with the help of her first Port Snow friend Griffin Knightly, she easily finds a new home in this small town. I LOVE the fact that Ren and Griffin become friends first. Friends-to-lovers is my kryptonite, and the romantic development (which was paced perfectly slow and steady) felt so much more genuine between these two after they became friends. They are seriously adorable, taking trips around town, camping, setting up her new house together, all the while bantering playfully with each other. I loved every scene they had together and I couldn’t get enough of them. The main source of conflict for their romance is predictable, but I enjoyed the way it played out. The love curse is a little cheesy, but I really had no problem with it!

What makes That Second Chance such a solid small town romance is how real the town and its inhabitants feel. The Knightlys are such a charming family and all their friends are hilarious and sweet. Meghan Quinn has me so invested in this town and characters now I can’t wait for each of the Knightly boys to get their own books. I only hope I’ll love them as much as I did Ren and Griffin!

This was my first Meghan Quinn book. I know, I know. I’ve been living under a rock. This book had a very sweet romance, a wonderful family aspect, and kept me wanting more.

Let me first just say that I loved the world that Quinn created here. Everything seemed so cute and quaint that I really need this town to be real. She took her time in describing this New England atmosphere that I would love to experience firsthand.

Hands down my favorite part of this book was the family aspect. The Knightly family was so awesome to read about. These brothers and sister made the book with their humor and genuine love for one another. Their teasing of Griffin made me smile so many times that I lost count.

The relationship between Griffin and Ren was so cute and sweet. Although I was going to throw kindle out the window with how long it finally took for me to get some action. But when we did goodness was it worth it.

“I can’t even pinpoint a moment when I’ve wanted something as badly as I want your lips on mine.

These two had me rooting for them ever since their first meeting. I can see why Griffin fell for Ren. She was cute and came off with such a good nature. She livened him and made him want to try love again. Reading about them falling in love was such a good way to spend an afternoon.

Now, I couldn’t give it five stars because I did have some minor issues with it. This features trope that I don’t really like to read about which is a dead spouse. For some reason, I just don’t like that in romance. It always seems like there is so much focus on moving on and flashbacks of the previous spouse and that’s what happened here. It could have been more focused on Griffin and Ren instead. But don’t mind me, that’s just a personal reason why I couldn’t rate it higher.

My other issues were how reliant Griffin was on this curse and also his predictable nature. It almost seemed as if he used the curse as a crutch to not get involved with Ren. It plays a part in his predictability as well. He pulled Ren in just to get to close and press the brakes on it over and over. I hated the back and forth in Griffin.

Overall, yes I had problems with it but it made for a good book in a new series. I know that I will want to get my hands on a story about every brother in this family. It gave you steam and some heartfelt moments and I recommend this to those who like small town romances.

I received an ARC via NetGalley for an honest review. The Quote was taken from an ARC and is subject to change upon publication.

I absolutely loved this small town romance! The setup was amazing and the characters are perfection!

I want books for all the brothers! It’s an utterly charming read.

Here’s what I loved:
Griffin and Ren are perfect for one another. She’s new in town. He wants to escape the sorrow of his past. They truly bring out the best in each and help one another get past obstacles blocking their path to love. I was completely engrossed in their story from beginning to end.

The small town feel is almost like a secondary character. I loved getting to know the town and residents through Ren. The setting and execution are stunning.

And speaking of secondary characters, these were the best yet! I want all the books!!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

We got a little snippet of the Knightly brothers in Two Wedding Crashers so I was so glad they get their own series. Griffin is absolutely yummy. He is still dealing with a huge loss and doesn't want any entanglements. Ren crashes into town, literally, and his life is never the same. The scene of him helping her was so vivid and funny. Griffin fought his attraction so hard....fortunately for Ren it was a losing battle! Great start to the Knightly Brothers series!

*I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher in exchange for an honest review.*

ATTENTION EVERYONE! I have a new Meghan Quinn series to scream about! If you've read Quinn's Dating by Numbers series, particularly the second book in the series,Two Wedding Crashers, then you'll be familiar with the town of Port Snow and the Knightly brothers. Quinn said that these four brothers would all be getting their own stories, but when that was going to happened remained up in the air. Now after a little over a year of waiting, we are finally getting to see what these brothers are all about and my excitement could not be contained once I started this book!

Two years ago, Griffin Knightly lost his wife unexpectedly and believes that her death was due to a curse that had been put on him and his three brothers. To keep from going through that same loss again, he closes his heart off to love and refuses to let himself date any of the women in town. But his plan to stay single is shot to hell when Ren Winters comes crashingliterally—into Port Snow. Griffin refuses to give her the time of day, but Ren is determined to get under Griffin's armor...and it's only a matter of time until he gives in.

It's been a while since I read a small town romance that gave me so many warm and fuzzy feelings and had me looking like a clown with the cheesy ass grin I had on my face while reading. This book had me wanting to get in my car and drive up to some small coastal town and just stay there for a while. I absolutely adore the town of Port Snow and all the people that inhabit it. These townspeople cracked me up while reading this book because they were always gossiping about Ren and Griffin and starting the most wild rumors about them and I was so entertained by their messy behavior. I also have a new book family that I completely adore and wish to be adopted by! The Knightly family stole my heart and it was never a boring time when everyone got together. Then we have our couple, Griffin and Ren. Griffin is a just the perfect, small-town, boy-next-door type of hero. He was always there to help anyone who needed it around town and he had so much pride for his little town. But I gotta say, Griffin frustrated me at times because he was letting the idea of a stupid little curse hold him back from being happy again and I so wanted to slap some sense into him. Luckily Ren had no problem with knocking some common sense into this broody hero. Ren was like a ray of sunshine to Griffin's cloudy day and she never let Griffin's sour mood drive her away. Ren too has gone through her fair share of struggles which is why she was such a good match for Griffin because she understood that need of starting over and getting a second chance at life. The romance is a slow-burning one and I swear I almost died from all the angst. There was one particular scene where I though Griffin and Ren were finally gonna have their moment and I was holding my breath the whole time and then something interrupted them and I swear to god I screeched so loud. I've never been so stressed in my life by a first kiss scene! All in all,That Second Chancewas everything I wanted in a small town romance and I'm excited for what's to come next in this series. I have high hopes for our next Knightly brother and I can't wait to learn more about this grumpy hero.

I was thrilled to dive in and review the first book in author Meghan Quinn’s Getting Lucky series. Set in a small Maine coastal town and centering about four brothers who suffered a “curse on a trip to New Orleans two years prior, this series promises to be intriguing, entertaining, and a whole lot of fun. That Second Chance features a widow who not only blames himself for his wife’s death because of the curse and a woman new in town who arrives in quite an unusual fashion. In addition I loved that this was a bit of a departure from Ms. Quinn’s normal laugh out loud hilarious rom-coms her name has become synonymous with; that’s not to say it didn’t have moments of hilarity, but it was also filled with emotion and a whole lot of heart.

The last two years have been difficult for Griffin as he’s mourned his wife gone way too soon and buried himself in work both at his family’s business and as a volunteer fire fighter, and town activities while refusing to consider dating despite his well meaning family urging him to do so. It doesn’t help that he has no intentions of ever submitting another woman to the New Orleans curse, but when he rescues a woman while on a call something about her calls to him, he just doesn’t plan to answer.

After recovering from a horrific auto accident, Ren planned to reset her life by moving cross country to get away from her helicopter parents and to give small town living a try. She never intended to make a grand entrance into Port Snow, Maine or to suddenly be famous for being the new girl in town.

I loved everything about this book; the setting was perfect and Ms. Quinn’s description of the town painted a lovely backdrop for this series to take place. I loved the push and pull between Ren and Griffin and the undeniable chemistry between them even though he fought long and hard to ignore it. Griffin’s family was a hoot and not only did I enjoy watching them push Griffin out of his misery, but the way they enveloped Ren into their fold was endearing.

If you enjoy sweet, slow burn, small town, family based romances then look no further than Meghan Quinn’s That Second Chance because it is absolutely perfect and a joy to read!

*3.5-4 stars*
This was a typical white-couple-romance, nothing too special but not bad at all especially with the small-town setting. The audiobook was a blast to get through, and the setting of the cutest town of Port Snow, Maine was just the escapist thing I needed.

The hero was dumb sometimes, and the MCs were a bit too perfect and literally had no flaw to their appearances, personalities and hobbies 😂 But the family banter in this was hilarious and I wanted more!

“Were you being romantic? I look over my shoulder.
“I was being romantic as shit.

Ren Winters didn’t know that the day a moose stepped in front of her car, it would put her in the path of Griffin Knightly, a guarded man, who had suffered a life-changing tragedy, and just how he would change her life. We didn’t know how much we would fall in love with Port Snow, the Knightly’s, Ren and all the characters in this charmingly engaging and swoony story!

We adore Meghan Quinn’s stories and her loveable and relatable characters. After reading That Second Chance, we’re now desperately looking forward to hearing about the other Knightly brothers love stories in her new Getting Lucky Series.

‘It might have been easier to never have known Griffin the way I do now; each time he pushes me away, my heart splinters.

Meghan Quinn delivered that small-town community feel to perfection. So much so, we want to pack a bag and head off to Port Snow to experience the hospitality of this quirky small town which was like another character in this sweet story. Meghan Quinn captured it all beautifully. We could smell the sea air, taste the pastries and fudge in the Lobster Landing. Our mouths were watering!

The prologue takes us two years previously, when, on a boozy night out in New Orleans to celebrate their younger brother, Brig’s twenty-first birthday they upset a palm reader, who places a curse on the Knightly boys, affecting their love life.

‘All I’m asking for is one moment, this one instance, when I can forget about the past, forget about the curse, and live the life I wish I could have.

For Griffin, the curse goes from a laugh to seriousness, when tragedy strikes and Griffin, as a result, he becomes very closed off promising never to give his heart again. Never allowing himself to feel.

Griffin was a beautiful man. Dependable, giving and so proud of his town, and his contribution to the upkeep of the pretty little Port Snow. The Knightly clan, Mum, Dad, Rogan, Reid, Brig, Jen and Griffin are born and bred whereas Ren Winters is escaping her overprotective mother, and starting a new life as the Algebra teacher in the town. That Second Chance could refer to both Griffin and Ren.

Sparks fly between the quirky, straight shooting, sweet Ren and Griffin, and for every step forward he takes, the curse remains steadfastly in the back of his mind, making him afraid to take that leap, but Ren is having none of it.

‘She’s fun. She’s beautiful. She’s everything I would look for in a woman. And everything I should stay away from.

There was so much to love about this slow burn and endearing love story. From the meddling supportive Knightly family, the picturesque town brought so perfectly to life, the amusing town gossip, and not to mention the little connection to We squealed when we read that!!

“Griffin, I hate seeing you so alone, it hurts my heart.
Taking a deep breath, I plaster on a fake smile. “I’m not alone, I have you fools.

An adorable setting, likable characters, charming, witty, sweet and emotional storytelling. Another winner from Meghan Quinn! Bring on the next book…Oh boy, we’re looking forward to his story!

This was a sweet, funny, small town, second chance romance starting a new series by Meghan Quinn. Griffin and his brothers live in a small town in Maine when they visit New Orleans to celebrate a birthday. They run into a street vendor who they think places a curse on their love lives. Ren moves from LA to the small town as the new teacher because she needs to change the pace of her life. The two of them have an instant connection through a super funny incident but Griffin has commitment issues because of the curse. There are so many laugh-out-loud moments, moments that just touched my heart, and moments that truly made me smile. I look forward to getting to know the rest of the Knightly family.

3 It’s okay Stars

This is my first Meghan Quinn book which really surprises me because I have a lot of her books and audio books but she hasn’t been an author I just go towards.

Since this one is fairly new and the audio is on Kindle Unlimited, I finally decided to pop my cherry.

That Second Chance book is okay. It’s nothing out of the ordinary and I don’t really have anything fussy to say about it. I liked having it on the background, but towards the end I got kind of bored and sped up the speed a little just to finish it.

The narrators were fine. I thought their voices were pleasant and the pace they read was fine. Okay I did find the female narrator, Reese Covington a touch too deep for my taste but that is a personal thing, I like really girly voices.

If I could describe this book in one word I would say, it’s a light, low angst (except for the last bit) okay read. It’s not really steamy which is fine because there’s no naked man on the cover, so I thought the cover matched the book completely.

Ren is the new girl in town and I do like my small town reads. Griffin is the oldest brother and I assume the series is about the brothers. I think if you like a book about nothing, then this is for you. It’s truly about nothing. The only “plot of the book is that Griffin is a widow and so that is his hang-up but that doesn’t really come into play until the last hour of the book.

The entire book is about Ren and Griffin’s conversations, with each other, with the town people and more with each other. They meet up, they have a date or two and they hang out with family. I can’t really say if there was a point to any of it except to have a book about two people getting to know each other.

Would this be my cup of tea writing? Probably not, but for Kindle Unlimited, SURE. I’ll continue on with the series.
