Elemental Legacy #2

Blood Apprentice

Rate this book
If you’re a human in a vampire’s world, nothing goes according to plan.

When a map to the mysterious fortune of notorious privateer Miguel Enríquez falls in the lap of Ben and Tenzin, only one of them is jumping at the opportunity. Tenzin can’t wait to search for a secret cache of gold. Ben, on the other hand, couldn’t be less excited.

All Ben knows about Puerto Rico is what he hears on the news and a few lingering memories of his human grandmother. Going back to his roots holds zero appeal for the carefully constructed man he’s become.

In the end, the lure of hidden gold can’t be denied.

Ben and Tenzin head to Puerto Rico where the immortal world is ruled by Los Tres, a trio of powerful vampires commanding the wind, the waves, and the mountains that make up this small island in the Caribbean.

To find Enríquez’s treasure, they’ll have to walk a fine line between flattery and secrecy. To leave the island might mean a bigger fight than either one of them foresaw.

Blood Apprentice is the second novel in the Elemental Legacy, a paranormal mystery series by Elizabeth Hunter, author of the Irin Chronicles.

If I could give this book 6⭐️ I absolutely would.

I was given the opportunity to read an early copy and wow it was good! We see Ben and Tenzin on the search for lost gold - yes, Tenzin is after gold and as you can imagine, the story is as much a fire cracker as she is! The developments in this book are not wholly unexpected if you have been a reader of Elizabeth Hunter‘s Elemental World up to this point, but you are going to need an outlet for your emotions. If you are reading in a public place - you have been warned, there will be shouting at your book, I promise. We learn so much more about Ben in this story as he ventures to Puerto Rico in search of lost treasure. A few favourite faces pop up along the way and we meet new, exciting characters. I can’t wait for you all to read this next story. Oh so good!

We're back with Benzin and they're on a treasure hunt.

Ben Veccio caters to the antiques collectors of the immortal world as a human amongst vampires he always has to be fully aware of his surroundings. I love Ben, I think even more than I love Gio and that is saying something. Ben is strong, loyal, sly and has street smarts. He knows how to con people but doesn’t always use those skills. But at the same time, he is trying to come to terms with his past and what it could mean for his future.

Tenzin is a bloodthirsty, totally kickarse, violent five-thousand-year-old vampire. Oh, and she is obsessed with gold. To the point of being narrow minded about it. She partnered up with Ben in the business and have been doing well ever since. I love Tenzin she has this vulnerability to her can be a bit childlike at times but at others is as wise as can be.
The attraction and chemistry between Ben and Tenzin is building yet Tenzin doesn’t know what to do about it. If she wants to do something, if she wants to have that weakness. Ben doesn’t want to become a vampire although we all know that he is fighting a losing battle. Everyone knows and deep-down Ben knows it as well. These two unwittingly overstep the boundaries that they set for one another.

I do have one tiny thing to complain about Tiny and Ben are so aggravating with ignoring their feelings/chemistry. The buildup is killing me but patient I must be.

Ms. Hunter's writing is flawless, impeccable and truly captivating. It’s like coming home every single time and hanging out with the gang or in this case the new gang. Chloe, Gavin, Ben and Tenzin. The plot is unique and each and every time the author brings Ben and Tenzin to hunt a new treasure in a new country I want to get on a plane and visit that country asap with Puerto Rico it is no different. They are to introduce themselves to the court of Los Tres to grant permission to seek for the treasure but there are also vampire politics at work. The pace is good not all of the time as Benzin’s antics got in the way a little too much but still spot on and never a dull moment.

What can I say? I am so biased when it comes to this series and the author there is no other option than to recommend this series. And I can only count my lucky stars that Ms. Hunter likes my reviews enough to let me receive an advanced copy before release date.

I love this series (Elemental Legacy series is new but it's an expansion of the same world/characters from the Elemental Mysteries Series) and these books. They are comfort reads for me. Like sitting in front of a roaring fire on a winter night in my favorite chair with a glass of single malt nearby. There are vampires and antiques and international travel and old libraries and wonderfully realized characters. And yes, there's romance, but it's often slow burn and a bit tortured (ok, a lot tortured) which is how I like my romance, anyway. A little escape in book form. Lovely.

A pirate's treasure map leads Ben and Tenzin to Puerto Rico - a land controlled by a trio of powerful vampires - Los Tres. They'll need their permission to seek the treasure. While Tenzin is thrilled to be on the trail of a fortune in gold, Ben is hesitant to revisit the country and people of his past. The longer they stay, the more long buried memories surface, stirring a storm that continues brewing within Ben. Again and again, he questions what he's doing with his life. Through a few alternating past/present scenes, readers see Ben as the boy he was before Gio stepped in and changed his life. I enjoyed learning more about Ben and events in his past that helped form the man he has now become - one walking a fine, dangerous line between mortal and immortal worlds. Tenzin is . . . Tenzin - a force of nature to be reckoned with, powerful, scary, and complex as she blows through lives while struggling with a bit of inner turmoil of her own. Both characters seem to sense a showdown and time of decision coming, and neither are ready to face it. As a result, it's an understatement to say tension is turned all the way up to HIGH in this book, fueling some scenes and potentially deadly situations that fans of the series will not want to miss!

As always, Elizabeth Hunter excels are setting a scene with her descriptive writing style and use of location playing into the plot line. I enjoyed sensing the strength of each main character in their own right, even as each also displayed a sense of vulnerability and unsureness in their dance around one another heavily laden with emotions they continue to refuse to acknowledge. The snarky banter between Ben and Tenzin adds needed relief from the frustration and tension sparking between them as they each battle internal turmoil while fighting external forces together. Past characters as well as new ones round out a strong support cast even as hints of things to come tease readers. I have to say that the cliffhanger ending frustrated this reader a little as I was left with feelings that the story stopped just short of completion, but that's just me. I'm sure it served its purpose to leave readers begging for the next one. Blood Apprentice is another Must Read in the series!
*With thanks to the author for an arc of this book!

It took me many days to get my mind in order after finishing this book so that I could properly review it. I’m not sure if I’m there yet but I’ll do it anyway.

There are sooooo many things to talk about in this book, but I want to keep this review as spoiler free as possible so here it goes.
The setting was fantastic, Elizabeth Hunter has a real gift in bringing a location alive. I could feel the warmth from the sun and the rum on my tongue as island music played in the background. Being that it’s currently winter, this made me crave island life in an extreme way. I wanted to sit next to Ben on a beach chair and soak up the sun or ride with him in a Jeep with the top off through the lush tropical jungle. It’s was perfection.

Now, on to what you really want to know, or as much as I’ll discuss about it. Nobody does tension and the long game like Hunter. She is a seasoned pro, nobody would doubt that. This book had me thinking ‘aha! Now I see what’s going to happen! Time and time again, but she kept me guessing and yelling at my iPad in surprise so many times. Sometimes in excitement, sometimes in an extreme frustration, and even times in anger. We learn so much about our beloved Ben in Blood Apprentice. He has to face a lot of his demons in this book, the curtain is pulled away from his past, and us lucky readers get to finally understand a thing or two about him. Every single thing I learned about him made my heart open more to him as a man, and hurt for the child he is no longer. I’m so curious to see him keep growing, as he continues to work desperately to become better than everything and everyone around him.

The treasure hunt in this book was amazing. It was different than the art heist of the Midnight Labyrinth. It was in such a different setting with rich, vibrant culture and surroundings. It was more gritty. I LOVED it. We will never know how much Gold Tenzin hoards, but I am curious how rich Ben has become on his own standing since he started this business with Tenzin.

Speak of the devil, that tiny little terror. She is wiser than us all, and yet I still think Elizabeth Hunter will outsmart her in how this story unfolds. There are so many layers to her, we see so many sides to her in this book, at some points I had emotional whiplash. Tenzin is one of the most unique characters I’ve ever read. So complex, her immortality adding too many layers of life to ever figure her out completely. She is one of the wisest, and also most selfish characters I’ve ever tried to love. And love her I do. Every move she makes is one more in this thousand year long game of chess she’s been playing with life. This is her first experience in uncertainty and it’s as maddening for her to experience as it is for me to read! 😆 There is so much promise in this book, of EVERY SINGLE detail I want, and I’m even granted some of of those wishes, but I’m selfish and I want more and I want it NOW! This might be one time where I desperately beg for the next book immediately in chanting, blood sacrifices and prayers to the literary gods to bless Elizabeth in this book making it easier and quicker to write!

OMG! This was by far my favourite Elizabeth Hunter book.
Let me start from the beginning. I read A Hidden Fire first and I loved it, I devoured the whole series and the extra novellas. When Ben and Tenzin got their own series I was very excited since they are two of my favourite characters (Tenzin is my all time favourite though), so when I tell you that I'm so in love with this book it hurts, I want you to get my full meaning.
This book has all the feels, these characters that we love are growing, changing and keeping us all on the edge of the precipice and wanting for more.
I cannot wait to continue reading their story. I've said it before and I'll say it again, thank you Elizabeth for delivering another favourite and for letting us hang out with your amazing characters.

I was lucky enough to received an ARC of this book with no expectation of a positive review whatsoever.

Where to start? Ben and Tenzin are just so wonderful together. I always crave more, more, MORE!!! I'm keen to watch how their story unfolds. Tenzin is a really complex character and the way she truly believes she's a monster is a little bit heartbreaking. Don't get me wrong, she's obviously a formidable and scary enemy to have should you get on her bad side - but for those she's loyal to, she's fiercely loyal. She's clearly fighting an internal war about her feelings for Ben and I'm not sure it's one she will win. I think she's conflicted by the strength of depth of her feelings and she's not really sure how to deal with them (especially as it's not something she's experienced much of in her very long life). Ben is so breakable and so fleeting; as the life of a human in the world of an immortal is - especially an immortal as ancient as Tenzin.

I have seen so much growth from Ben and I'm impressed by the man he's become. You really don't see him as the boy he once was and he's someone I'd like to know IRL. I was really impressed by how clever Ben and Gio were in their strategizing about the treasure and how to properly and effectively, work things in their favour. Ben has clearly learned from the master that is Gio :)

I would like to read more of Ben and his Abuela and it'd be wonderful if he could establish some sort of relationship with her an his cousin Liza. I think should he be able to maintain some sort of relationship with them it would help heal a really large part of the damage his very broken childhood has caused.

I loved all the parts of the book that are in PR and as usually happens when EH describes places, she makes me want to visit and I spend ages afterwards researching those places and checking if I can make a trip there :)

EH writes such great female characters who don't fall into the stereotypical mold that so many writers seem to struggle with. It's one of the things that drew me to her books way back when.

The little snippets of Gavin and Chloe also leaves you wanting more and I'm now drumming my fingers waiting for that book. March 12th can't come soon enough.

So all in all I loved the Benzin book and I can't consume the content fast enough. Elizabeth - as always, you've not only delivered but you've totally hit it out of the park with this one!

Couldn't wait to start this one! Have to say it didn't disappoint.

Ben & Tenzin - the tension, the banter, the arguments, the frustration, the unspoken. These two always seem to grab me and jerk me into their world and before I know the adventure has ended...for now!

Love getting more glimpses into Ben's childhood. His struggles. How everything he has gone through has formed him into the man he is & has become - Good, Bad, Gio, & parents.

This journey takes us on a trip to search for pirate treasure a, from NYC to the beautiful island of Puerto Rico. For Ben, it was a trip into what might have been as well as realizing what how much he loves what he has. And yes, as always there is drama in the Vampire world and in the business of "recovering" artifacts!

Can't even begin to explain how I feel about the growing relationship between him and Tenzin - I was close to tears near the end...I was really thrown by the end (definitely, gave me knots in my stomach) - but no "spoilers" from me.

Loved it - can't believe it's over. So when's the next book? So here's me, anxiously awaiting more and the next adventure.

Premature rating, but Elizabeth has never let me down. I am eager for this book!!!............. And I wasn’t disappointed. I just wish there was “more between Ben and Tenzin and I also know you can’t put everything in one book. Overall, I enjoyed this book and I am looking forward to Gavin and Chloe story.

This is hands down my favorite Elizabeth Hunter novel!
The small details describing the scenery and a new exciting foreign land, diving deeper into Bens past, the tension, the tension, did I mention the tension? Elizabeth Hunter does a fabulous job sucking us further into the Elemental World, and further into the complex relationship of Tenzin and Ben.
Ben and Tenzin are partners in crime. Two very different people brought together by a mutual interest in retrieving very valuable items whether for clients or simply for themselves. When Operation Aaargh pops up, they go on a treasure hunt in beautiful Puerto Rico. While in this sunny paradise, we learn about Ben’s past and the influences that his biological family had on him early in life. I love that we get these glimpses into his past, as it has always been a mystery of who Ben was up until now. I feel so much more connected to Ben as a character after reading this, which is why this book has earned the #1 spot in my heart. While Tenzin is still Tenzin, we finally begin to see a deeper side to her. A side that she doesn’t show to anyone, not even her most trusted friends.
As always, we meet new characters and power players in the Vampire world, while a few of our old friends pop in for a visit. EH does this best. As a reader you become so invested in the many characters of her novels. Every time that she brings one back, no matter how short they are there, your heart just warms.
This book will make your jaw drop, it will make your heart swoon, and it will make you hopeful for the future.

This book is the many shades of Tenzin book. Awkward dialog Tenzin? Check. Badass warrior Tenzin? Check. Pretending to think one thing but hiding her true intentions Tenzin? Check. Check. But what will be most shocking is a Tenzin we as readers rarely get to see, one I won't divulge for fear of spoilers. The reader will also appreciate the emotional journey Ben goes through in this book, as will anyone who's had to learn to pull the flowers from weed patch and come to terms with the thorns of the past and the dangers of the future.

Also, can you say favorite characters from past books coming in to play? You're going to love it when you see who.

In the end, this much is clear: when I grow up to be a real author, I want to be just like Elizabeth Hunter. How does she keep doing this? She writes mysteries that, beyond vampires and elemental powers, capture a human truth brought into perfect focus not despite the paranormal elements but because of them.

Five stars all the way.

I was really lucky to be able to read this book early for my honest review.
Blood Apprentice started out with the best
of Tenzin and Ben and their banter. It just gets better and funnier.
In this instalment Ben goes back to his roots in Puerto Rico. We get to look back at his childhood before Gio found him, he has a great deal of guilt, and my heart broke for him and the what ifs he faces.
Of course there was also a treasure hunt which had Tenzin excited , well because gold right. They come across more vampire drama and well vampire politics.
You see a shift with the inner dialogue with these pair as feelings get more ramped up and denials get firmer.
The ending in this book will have you thinking what the hell. It’s a cliffhanger for sure.It gave me all the gut churning and heart ache I could handle for a while.
Elizabeth has given us a great second book to what is undoubtedly an epic series.

This book is simply marvelous! Blood Apprentice, the second novel in Hunter's Elemental Legacy series, follows Ben and Tenzin into the jungles of Puerto Rico, searching for pirate treasure and evading complicated vampire politics.
As Hunter is known to do, she masterfully creates picturesque landscapes and weaves her tale through a beautifully crafted backdrop. Hunter's use of characters to drive the story is exceptional. She has mastered the fine art of subterfuge and misdirection, creating a sense of mystery and causing the reader to question truth from reality. Even when readers are tucked safely in the mind of a character, their thoughts are corrupted with half-truths and denial.
Complex story telling abounds. Blood Apprentice does not disappoint. And, I can't wait for the next installment.

Review copy was received from Author. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

The Elemental Legacy builds upon the very beginning which is Elemental Mysteries and then the Elemental World. I would classify Elemental Mysteries and Elemental Legacy as urban fantasy as they deal with one couple primarily, whereas Elemental World is more paranormal romance with a different couple or character in each book.

You could read just Elemental Legacy but being the OCD reader I am, I would start with Mysteries, then World, then Legacy. If that's too much, you could probably just do Mysteries, the Bronze Blade, and then Legacy, or possibly just Bronze Blade and then Legacy. But I would really just read them all as they are great!

Blood Apprentice is the second full-length book in the series, following three novellas. This is the slowest burn romance EVER. We do see so much personal growth for both Ben and Tenzin. I mean, seriously, they have lived together for five years but aren't together!

Ben is still so young and while he is very world weary, he has so many options and thus decisions to make about his life. I love the look we get at his history and biological family. The "what am I doing with my life" really hits hard in this book. He may be ready to make some decisions but that doesn't mean Tenzin will cooperate. They are the oddest odd couple.

I enjoyed the lush descriptions of the island of Puerto Rico. The historical and mystery aspects of hunting down treasure and manipulating vampire politics is always fun. And now we wait to see what happens.
"The real question is, which one of us is going to drive that truck?"

She looked at him with a blank stare. "I don't drive."

"Shorted out electrical system it is."

Puerto Rican shenanigans!

I've been in love with Ben Vecchio since we met him as a young boy, if he ever was one. And if you can't love Tenzin then you're not my kind of person. She's trouble and danger and has such a delicious sense of humor. This book series is like a love letter to us, the Hunter fans. She doesn't miss with this installment. It reaches so far beyond the previous novellas into the relationship between Ben and Tenzin and I loved each page.

96 points, 5 STARS!
Alert: massive gushing ahead, there was no getting around it

Ben and Tenzin are on a mission to Puerto Rico for pirate treasure via a treasure map that may or may not point to a secret cache of gold. Tenzin can't wait, she loves gold and she has been bugging Ben about it for months! Ben is reluctant because of his ties to his human family on the island. In the end, the allure of gold is capable of pushing against all obstacles, including sense.

I waited one year, three months, four days, 19 hours and 30 minutes to be allowed to read this book. The best thing to happen to me since that timer started counting down is getting my hands on this book.

It is only February, and this is going to be my favourite book I read this year.
...unless the third book comes out this year. Oh my god, do you think that might happen?

I cannot quite be sure I didn't die from happiness while reading this. It was everything I wanted, everything I needed out of this installment to the series. It went too well for my hopes and dreams. I knew I was going to love reading this book, I didn't know how utterly overjoyed I would be at the insides. It was one long stream of happy squealing inside my head, occasionally broken up by my holding my breath certain certain tense scenes. If I didn't actually die while reading this, I can die happy now. Though, I would prefer to last until the last book comes out.

I love so many things about this book. I love that old characters from the original series are around again. I love that Chloe and Gavin, who take a large portion of the first book in the series, have other things they're doing (and they're getting their own novella for them), so I get more Ben and Tenzin time. Even if I love Chloe and Gavin (Chavin? Gavloe? hmm..), I love Benzin more. I love how the story plays out. I love everything.

But most importantly? I love Ben and Tenzin. I would read anything at all written by the Elizabeth Hunter as long as it involves my Benzin. Things have changed between them since their last adventure with the Midnight Labyrinth, and they haven't changed at all. Ben and Tenzin have always been massively in sync with each other, almost an extension of one another. In a lot of ways, that has somehow increased, and I love it. It might have to do with all the flirting between the two that caused at least 90% of my happy squealing (and all of my held breaths).

The second time I read this book today, I bookmarked all my favourite spots in the book to read later. I bookmarked so many spots to read again later, even more than I did for Midnight Labyrinth! I use these scenes to fall asleep when I need something happy to lull me into sweet dreams. This series is the best I have for this purpose. I'm so happy to have more to add to the list!

Which means yes, I have read this book two times already, and it just came out yesterday (22 hours ago as of writing this). And some of these scenes I've read more than a healthy amount. I don't want to reveal how many, for fear others may try to stop me from reading them more times.

Blood Apprentice is even more special because we see more of Ben's past. We have seen him since was 12. We have watched him grow up and become the amazing man he is today. There have been bumps along the way, but mostly Ben has been healthy and happy and loved. But we also have known that before he came to live with Gio, he didn't have the best life. He has kept his past to himself, and now we get to know more of it. I feel privileged just because he let me, the reader, in. Even if I don't understand him like Tenzin does.

The epilogue to this, though? Better just rip my heart out and slay me right now. I don't think I can take the wait for the next book! Also, I currently have so many theories running around my head right now that is going to be happening in the next book and I can hardly contain it.

Better start the clock counting down to the next one, I sure have!

...

I want to start by saying that I LOVED this book. I dearly love Elizabeth Hunter’s Elemental series, and have a deep deep love for Ben and Tenzin so to say I have been counting the days to the release of Blood Apprentice is something of an understatement.

Over the course of the four Elemental Legacy books so far, it has been both wonderful and fascinating to see the relationship dynamic between Ben and Tenzin grow and evolve and events in this book have definitely altered things. For the better? Only time (and the next few books) will tell.

(On a more general note, one of the things I love about Elizabeth Hunter’s books is how well she explores the challenges of any kind of relationship, not just romantic, between a human and an immortal mainly the experiential and emotional differences that would come with such a significant age gap. The fact that she manages this so beautifully with Ben and Tenzin, both of whom come with such significant additional emotional baggage and trauma, is a little awe-inspiring.)

But back to Blood Apprentice:
For fans of Midnight Labyrinth, I will say that this sequel has a slightly different focus away from the glittery museum heists of New York, Blood Apprentice sees Ben and Tenzin back in the literal mud, once again hunting for potentially nonexistent gold. (Tenzin’s payback for the events of Omens and Artifacts? Perhaps.) To that end, while the first few chapters in New York do help set the scene for any readers new to this world, they did feel a little slow. For me, the story really took off a few chapters in, once Ben and Tenzin actually arrive in Puerto Rico and begin their search. There we meet a wonderful cast of new characters (have I mentioned how much I love the diversity of Elizabeth Hunter's characters? It's fantastic), and a few old favorites make unexpected appearances.

Also, while the treasure hunt is definitely a large part of the book, I think the real strength and focus - of Blood Apprentice lies less in the heist, and more in the character development. Ben has reluctantly returned to Puerto Rico, his father’s country, where his last few remaining blood relatives live; old memories are impossible to avoid. Tenzin has her own potentially lethal demons that risk crawling back to the surface. The question of Ben’s role in the vampire world, and his own mortality, remain at hand as well as the increasingly difficult question of what, exactly, Ben and Tenzin are to each other. Are any of these questions answered? I strongly suggest you read and find out.

I’ll end by saying that this was a wild, emotional ride of a reading experience I laughed, I gasped, and some moments just about broke my heart. I finished Blood Apprentice desperate for more, and immediately went back to read it again! Elizabeth Hunter’s writing continues to be beautifully rich she has an incredible talent for bringing scenes to life. I don’t know anyone else who captures so many intricate varieties of human emotion and vulnerability so well, or so vividly. I strongly recommend this book - and the Elemental series as a whole.

(As an additional note - I would strongly recommend reading Tenzin’s origin novella, The Bronze Blade if you haven’t already! It will add some context to a few of the events in Blood Apprentice.)

There are no words that can adequately communicate what the experience of reading this book is like. And it is an experience- emotionally, spiritually and physically. It has a spectacular OMG moment that everyone has been anticipating, but still hits you right between the eyes and will leave you with your mouth agape for quite some time. I don’t know if it will be as powerful an experience if you haven’t followed the whole series, but that’s an excellent reason to backtrack and binge read now. Every book in the spectacular world that this author has created is a gem, and I’ve said it before and it bears repeating, every syllable written is carefully chosen to communicate the exact emotion, image, sound or texture she wishes to reader to feel, see, hear or touch. As a reader you owe it to yourself to have her as one of your go-to authors. Highly recommended without any reservations.

In Blood Apprentice, Hunter takes us to the lush green, heat of Puerto Rico in search of treasure, in search of self and I for one, was LOVING every moment!
Treasure - Ben and Tenzin are back at it - treasure hunting in Puerto Rico! There is mystery, there is A LOT of banter, tempers, steam, and heart racing moments. You cannot help but put yourself right in the middle of this mystery. Can Ben navigate the politics of the Vampires In Charge of Puerto Rico? Will Tenzin push Ben over the edge?
Search of Self - Ben struggles with memories of a broken childhood, and Hunter masterfully writes his acrobatic dance on the line between the immortal and mortal worlds. Questions swirl in his heart of past decisions, how would his life have been different if he had been raised by his family? Can he know them and still keep them safe?
Find it all out by reading Blood Apprentice!

Hunter has done it again! A book that you don't ever want to put down and characters that are simply amazing!

Heavy sexual tension, not so innocent touches, silly arguments and adventure! Ben and Tenzin are amazing, together and separately. They encompass all the best aspects of literary characters, and I want to be their friend in real life!!

Dealing with the past, while deciding on a future, Ben is jumping into everything he has tried to avoid since being adopted by Giovanni. Tenzin, while pushing him to go on this particular adventure, is by his side every step of they way. Partners, friends, family... but maybe more?

I was given the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book and it was amazing!! I love Ben and Tenzin and have been waiting impatiently for this book. It was everything I hoped it would be and more.
This is one of those books you just don't want to end . It is full of so many emotions and we get to learn alot about Ben's early life and about his family and about his Puerto Rican roots.
Then there is Ben and Tenzin's treasure hunt. You never know what's going to happen with them when they are on one of their adventures. And this is no exception .. the trip to Puerto Rico is full of so many conflicting emotions that it keeps you hanging on waiting to find out what is going to happen.
You definitely will want to read this one.. it may very well be one of my all time favorites books.

In Hunter’s Elemental World there is a vampire named Anne who is a counselor.
Well, Ben needs some sessions with her. Tenzin needs some sessions with her. Then they both need to go together for couples counseling. (That would be hilarious! 😂)
Another great Elemental Legacy book folks. This Legacy series is SO GOOD! I love the Irin Chronicles, and they will always hold a special place in my heart, but this Elemental Legacy Series is rapidly becoming my favorite. Pure entertainment: fun mysteries, sexy, layers of character building and...ALL. THE. TENSION. Elizabeth really knows how to wind us up all nice and tight. Just right.
I am looking forward for more in this series. MORE. We need more. We might all need Anne’s help before it’s over.

I got a chance to read an early version of this book for a fair and honest review.
First, the cover. I love this cover so much. It fits in lovely with the theme of the previous books in the series, and then as you read the story you will know exactly when you have got to the place that it depicts.
I do recommend reading the earlier books first to get the full experience of the amazing world that Elizabeth Hunter has created, but you could just read this and enjoy the story as it is. However be warned of the ending which is a bit of a cliffhanger. It is in the middle of a five book series though, so kind of expected and could have been worse than we got.
Some of the side story felt rushed in the way it was loosely tied up, but let's face it, we're really only interested in what happens, and will eventually happen, between Ben and Tenzin. That part did not disappoint at all.

Oh, the feels! Ben and Tenzin. I need them together! At this point I’m a bit frustrated with Tiny.

This book was everything! Ben and Tenzin are back and looking for pirate treasure and the hunt is so thrilling. Full of action, intrigue, humor, intense chemistry, and a surprise appearance by one of Elizabeth Hunter's most beloved characters, Blood Apprentice will have you in its thrall from page 1! The story was a giant step forward in Ben and Tenzin's partnership. We learn so much about Ben and this just made me love him even more. Tenzin is....well, Tenzin and I'm so anxious to know what's actually going on in her head! We get a quick peek at Chloe and Gavin that makes me hungry for The Devil and the Dancer in March. I just can't get enough! I have a feeling this story will sit with me for a while. It's one I'll happily read again and again!

This book was everything I needed it to be, because who doesn't love a mysterious treasure on a tropical island!! I fully admit that Tenzin is one of my favorite characters that Elizabeth has created. She has such a wonderful depth of experience and mystery surrounding her, a beautiful childlike way of living in the world and just a dash of crazy to keep the readers constantly guessing on what she will do next. And Ben is the perfect counterpoint to her character!

The story was creative and original with all the wonderful insight and background into Ben's background and mind. I really enjoy learning more of what motivates and influences him apart from his vampire family.

The chemistry that Elizabeth creates between Ben and Tenzin in this book was incredible!! I cannot wait to read the next chapter in their journey.

What another fantastic read! Keep the stories coming E.H. . When you hear Ben, Tenzen and treasure, you know you are going to be in for an adventure. I loved the fact that some of the other characters made an appearance. I don't know how Elizabeth did it but I felt as if i was in Puerto Rico with them. I have to say the emotional roller coaster ride in this book gave me an understanding into who Ben is and Tenzen she's such a complex vampire.

Whoa! How the dynamics have changed between my favourite couple! This book was gripping, entertaining and bittersweet.

It's all fun and games until Ben has to face his past and his roots by going with Tenzin to Puerto Rico where they will chase a pirate treasure amidst the upheaval in local vampire court. The closer he is to the land and people he stepped away from in order to stay close to his adopted uncle, the more his childhood memories resurface.

It's all a barrel of laughs until Tenzin faces her fear of being underground and her growing attraction to her partner. She has this immense complexity and duality where she is constantly at war with herself. "Kill him. He is a weakness." "Take him. He is yours." It's a tug of war, alright, and it cranks up the tension.

While the treasure hunt is very entertaining, it's the emotions between these two, what's being said and left unsaid that is very powerful. I absolutely loved it, and I can not wait to see what the future brings for them.

Gio has a cameo appearance, and he is at his best! And Los Tres, the vampire court of Puerto Rico had an intriguing secondary plotline which I really enjoyed.

Overall, this is Elizabeth Hunter at her best. I adore her books and especially Elemental Legacy series. Highly recommended. Read it.

I’m not a review writer, but I’d just be negligent to not write a review on this book. There are very few writers that make me ‘stalk them, but Elizabeth Hunter is one of them. EH is one author that I always pre-order her books regardless of the price. Blood Apprentice has everything a PR reader is looking for... mystery, intrigue and angst. Ben and Tenzin set off for Puerto Rico for treasure, opportunity, family and complicated love after the horrific hurricane that affected the area. (As someone who has family there, I think she recreated it perfectly). You maybe could read this as a stand alone, but you really shouldn’t deprive yourself of the whole series starting with the Elemental Mysteries. If I could only have one book boyfriend, I’d chose one of Elizabeth Hunter’s characters. If you are a book dragon who enjoys Paranormal Fiction, you really should immerse yourself in EH’s world... I promise you won’t be disappointed.
