Ìý Ìý ÌýTrying to escape her parents' legacy of madness and mayhem, Lady Alayna flees her home in Southern England only to find she's waited too long. ÌýHer parents' enemies have become her own. ÌýThey force her north and straight into the path of Kiel, a Scottish chieftain whose difficult past has left him cold and guarded. ÌýHis help, however reluctant, could save her from her enemies. Ìý Ìý ÌýThough Kiel doesn't think he should trust Alayna, he wants to, even more he wants to protect her, but it's near impossible when he has enemies of his own who will stop at nothingÌýto destroy him. ÌýUnlike Alayna's enemies, Kiel's are the insidious kind, the kind who hide cold, black hearts behindÌýthe veil of friendship. ÌýThey will do anything and everything they can to hurt him, and soon, her. Ìý Ìý ÌýAs danger closes in, passion ignites between them, but it might prove to be just one more weapon their enemies can use against them. Ìý Ìý ÌýWhen Danger Follows is a medieval love story filled with engaging dialogue, intense action, and edge-of-your-seat suspense.
This was a great read. The hr was strong, honest, extremely funny, and a totally badass. Growing up with an evil mother and a tough father who played games with each other. Alayna doesn't know any better. Her honesty and misunderstandings cause for a funny book.
Alayna grows up with parents who always try to outdo each other when it comes to cruelty and she is the victim of that. Despite that, she grows up to be a beautiful young woman who retains her humanity. After her father's death, all her mother's arrows are aimed at her and she has to flee for her life. In her flight to Scotland, she meets a group of men whose leader makes her heart beat faster. Kiel itself is also in a difficult position. Trying to find out who in his clan is trying to kill him like his father and 2 brothers. Meeting Alayna is admirable as he watches Alayna fight to stay alive. He decides to help her when she will help him. He did not count on her social forms (which she does not have from her upbringing) and their sexual attraction.
A great story with a strong female lead. Laughed at the situations Alayna gets into when she is surrounded by other people and her boundless honesty. After the marriage between Kiel and Alayna, she is kept short and Kiel wants to protect her above all else. But he knows that Alayna doesn't need protection and fights her own battles, right?
Really nice story, 5*.

Joan R Holland does a great medieval romance story in this book. I was engaged with the story and enjoyed the elements of this story. The characters worked well overall and enjoyed getting to know them. I can't wait to read more from Joan R Holland.
