As if his life wasn’t complicated enough, Jim suddenly finds his world invaded by a doppelganger an unknown individual who looks so much like him that he is even able to fool those in Jim’s inner circle. Even more disturbing, he also mimics Jim’s incredible slate of super powers.
Framed for crimes he didn’t commit, Jim is forced to seek out his lookalike in order to prove his innocence. However, as the depth of his double’s malevolent plans are revealed, Jim realizes that there is far more at stake than simply clearing his name. Now Jim faces the formidable task of attempting to stop an adversary who not only looks and thinks as he does, but also seems to match him power for power.
Replication by Kevin Hardman and narrated by Mikael Naramore is an audible book I requested and the review is voluntary. Wow, this is my favorite so far! A clone (from the black ops government ) of Kid Sensation is causing chaos! Kid Sensation finds he has a new power! Exciting and action packed! Lots of twists and surprises come up in here too. The end of the book really intrigued me into wanting the next book now! Love this series with all the great characters and never a dull plot!
This was an enjoyable 6th instalment of Kevin Hardman's Kid Sensation series. The series is a fun YA superhero story. It follows the adventures of teen superhero Jim, Kid Sensation, as he balances the dealings of his personal life with his tasks as a budding superhero! The series has a fun mix of action, adventure, coming of age drama, and cool superpowered happenings.
This 6th instalment was a fun one. Jim had returned to earth after his trip to the world of Caeles in the last book. He is not back alone though as his long absent grandmother Princess Indigo and his new titular fiancee Myshtal are in tow as well. Jim has to smooth over his political engagement to the beautiful Myshtal with his actual girlfriend, Electra, while also dealing with an imposter whom is committing a string of awful crimes while passing himself off as Kid Sensation. Worse still is the fact that Jim might need to work with the slippery Mr.Grey if he wants to clear his name!
The story was an enjoyable one. There was a lot of romance drama in this instalment but luckily the drama was fun for the most part. The only issue I have is that I'm growing ever colder on the Jim/Electra romance and would favour one of the other two pairings. The stories of the regular secondary characters were pretty interesting in this instalment. Smokey had some issues of his own going on and it was a fun change of dynamic in Jim's family as the arrival of Myshtal and especially Indigo made for some fun developments. The action was pretty fun as well as Jim fought against his doppelgänger while trying to prove to his family that he was now mature enough to be able to manage on his own.
All in all I enjoyed this tale. I've read better books over the years for sure but this is a solid and reliable series. The characters are likeable, the action is fun, and the writing fairly engaging.
Rating: 4 stars.
Audio Note: Mikael Naramore does a great job with the audio for this whole series.
Another fun entry in the Kid Sensation series. We're back on Earth in this newest installment, and we get to see a lot of repercussions for what happened in the last book. I will say it's been a while since I read the last book in the series, so I was happy that there were plenty of reminders about what had happened, and even about who some people were that hadn't appeared in 2 or 3 books. It might be annoying if you were reading all of them straight through, but I appreciated it.
This one didn't have quite as much action as most of the series, but it was still an interesting plot and I've grown to really like a lot of the characters, so it was just fun seeing them all again. It's hard to give an almost all powerful superhero something to worry about, but the bad guy here worked well for me.
I like that this series is different in that the books are more about the main character's everyday life, which happens to include being a superhero along with other things I won't mention due to spoilers. He's kind of ridiculously over powered and versatile, but that lets the story focus on other things besides danger to the main character. There's basically no chance he dies at any time, but it never bothers me because everything else is still interesting. There is still danger to his friends and family, and there's some politics involved that he can't use his powers on. Then of course there are his social relationships. His powers may be way over the top, but he still makes stupid mistakes and does things a dumb 16 year old would do.
The only nitpick I have is some of the relationship drama that seems a bit repetitive at this point. That's more of a personal thing, because I'm not a big romance guy, but I feel like the same type of conflict keeps happening every other book or so, and I'd rather focus on other things.
Overall I love this series. It was one of the first superhero book series I read, and I'm always excited when a new installment comes out. It's always a nice palate cleanser when I just want a fun adventure with super powers.
Loved it! The only thing I didn't like was the looonnng wait. I can't wait until the next book. I read some other reviews, and in the interest of not spoiling a great additional to Kid Sensation, let's just say I don't agree with the negative ones. I felt this episode was perfectly timed. We finally saw some much awaited growth of Jim's character and now have a giant opening in the story for some fantastic change!
Jim's mysterious double is causing endless problems for him and the other supers. Jim is framed for a number of crimes which he couldn't have committed, but being both a speedster and teleporter, his alibis are deemed useless. However this is nothing to the trouble he's in with his girlfriend, Electra as he returns from Caeles with a 'fiancee' in tow.
Great Addition To An Awesome Ever Developing Universe
It’s still surprising to me when Jim seems to keep a level head through all his trials. He seriously does not seem like any single child 16 year old mentally that I’ve ever met. Even considering the ridiculous amount of things that he’s gone through and abilities he possesses. It just seems to be a great testament to his “upbringing. Anyways, interesting lead ins throughout the story. Very intricate and well thought out. Slightly predictable surprises but it seems purposeful, I always enjoy it when I got part of it correct but something different and interesting shines through. It’s slightly annoying that he has to always be the mature one around people his own age. (Probably just my personal bias leftover from my own experiences). He really has to be though considering his power slate. Can’t really go around emotionally stunted or lacking level headed-ness with all that burgeoning power. Gotta love the wonderfully timed hook at the end. Can almost never go wrong with a cliffhanger as long as it’s not out of proportion in comparison to the story.
No, seriously. New powers, a doppelgänger, and seriously new drama along with life and character changes -- in a much-awaited new book make the lyric phrase into something like a quintuple pun. (At least.) I know I wasn’t the only person to buy the book while the posting for it was still warm, and it certainly doesn’t disappoint! In a pivotal story that sees Jim’s life changing radically, we get to see him struggle with (literally) life and death decisions that challenge his ethics and personal growth. We also watch his world grow as we learn more about the politics that surround and pull at him. We even get to see deeper into some previously shallow characters (heh). I’m going to be re-reading this one a few times.
If you have already read any ot the books in this series, you are already a fan. If you have not, go immediately to Amazon (or where ever) and get the first book in the series. I promise that you will not regret it. Specifically, the plot is classic Hardman, full of twists and turns that you will never expect. Throw in new characters and new powers and you have one heck of a good read. I envy those who have never read Hardman's books since it would be wonderful to experience them all over again.
The farther we get into this series the more overpowered Jim gets. Despite having almost all the A level superpowers the author still manages to make him even more overpowered, he's also rich, good looking and is literal royalty. Serious Bestest with mostest vibes, the author tries to even it out with a totally un realistic "complicated" love life where he essentially has a harem , and dont get me started on his relationship with electra where he makes all the compromises in the relationship and listens to everything she says. I was also upset to see Jack die because he was literally jims only equal in the whole series and his only real challenge as he breezed by every other threat or in book 5 pulled the chosen one card out so that his character would survive against all odds because he had a destiny which needed to be fufilled. World building was also awful, i think in superhero universes world building is always important and interesting because it really allows readers to imagine what type of place it would be like in real life.
But there were some bright spots, I thought Jack as a characters was pretty interesting and the theme of Jim being replaced by him kept me anticipating through out the whole book. Then there was also jim's family leaving which I hope will lead to us learning more about his father.
The thing I like about this series is you can never tell were the roller coaster ride of a story is going to take you. This book continues from were book five (Coronation) left off with Jim having returned to earth with his alien Grandmother and fiancee. The problem is he already has a girlfriend on earth and a date set up with another teen super hero. In this sort of situation most people would wish they had a body double but when Jim finds out that is exactly what hes got things get really complicated and they were bad enough before. It's only when the body double starts to hurt people Jim cares about that Jim finds himself in a sticky situation and all the super powers in the world might not be enough to get him out of this one. I really enjoyed this book and can't wait for the next one in the series. The narrator once again does an excellent job and I hope he will still be the go to guy for the next kid sensation book.
I have listened to each audiobook of this series, and each has given me drama and entertainment pleasure. This particular one, points to what stupidity can exist in people in authority. That they don't seem to have the bigger picture in mind, but the narrow minded ideas of those who conjure up a solution, without understanding wider implications being caused by the said solution. To create a replica of someone, like Jim, alias Kid Sensation, sounds good, as you then have someone to cover situations should the original person end up on another realm. However, Jim had very strong commitment and ethical standards taught to him by his mother and grandfather. Without these standards, someone with the same power set could mean very grave things for our world. I admire the narrator of this series, his astonishing rendering of the tale, with various characters vocalizations causes the whole story to come to life.
Man, this series seems to be getting worse as we go. I think I'm quitting here. This had the same rushed, sloppy writing as the book just before this in the series (Amped) and it also had similar plot holes--but bigger ones this time.
And, again, almost nothing changes by the end of the book. Just another tv show episode in his life, when there could be some truly big, cool stuff going down. Oh well. Fun start. It feels like the author ran out of ideas (or he's trying to milk it too much and put lots of books out too fast).
I've loved the Kid Sensation series ever since I picked up book one, and this one was no different. Replication was everything I had hopped it would be and then some. And just like with all the others it's left me wanting more. I can honestly say it was well worth the wait and I can not wait to get my hands on the next book, be it a side story or the next chapter.
My seventh read from author Kevin Hardman. Well-written super-hero sci-fic/suspense, with well-developed characters. With each book Hardman writes the story-line gets more enticing, drawing the reader deeper & deeper. Again narrator Mikael Naramore’s talented narration adds greatly to the book’s enjoyment. I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it. I’ll be reading more in this series. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018)
As always, an enjoyable Kid Sensation story. After all the stories though, it doesn’t seem right that he is still only high school aged, not that he can’t seem to learn from his previous adventures. The constant befuddlement of Jim on things that are often blatantly obvious gets obnoxious at times, which is the main reason I felt obligated to give a 4 rather than 5 start rating. Regardless, I am looking forward to the next installment.
I can not say enough good things about the Kid Sensation series. My son and I both love the series. These truly are the best superhero books we have ever read. The only negative is we have to wait for the next one. Thank you Mr. Hardman for the hard work you put in to entertaining and often enlightening us.
This book is a little bit slow in the beginning. But once you get past the first couple of chapters it turns into a fast paced page turner. I definitely want to read more of the adventures of Kid Sensation but it would be nice if it didn't take so long for the next book to come out.
I’m a big fan of the Kid Sensation series. This one was a little tough for me though as I found myself sympathizing a bit too much with the villain. The book also took a while to get moving. Overall a good story though. The narrator for these books is very good.
I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook. This is my honest and voluntary review.
Kid Sensation (aka Jim) is a very likable Cape. I love the action and in depth thought analysis BUT - too much fluff about the color of the doilies and such. Geeze, we want to see Jim exploring his talents. All in all, am excellent series. Mouse and BT are so"real" author did excellent job creating real believable characters.
I’ve really loved this series and can’t put the books down when I pick them up. That’s being said, now I’m impatiently waiting for the next one so I can know what’s going on... great series!
Could have done with more editing. The focus seemed off. The main villain was introduced too late and didn't seem to woven to the story properly; interaction with Jim's friends seemed like filler.
Compared to other books in this series this was a snooze feast. You definitely need more action like in previous books. I do not need another winey spiderman.
Jim, aka Kid Sensation, returns to Earth where finds a mysterious doppelgänger wreaking havoc and leaving Jim to take the blame. Another enjoyable episode in this young adult sci-fi series!
