Half-Moon Hollow #7

Peace, Blood, and Understanding

Rate this book
The “enchanting (Publishers Weekly) Jane Jameson series returns with this fun and witty paranormal romance following a vampire consultant who has nefarious plans to oust Jane from her role as the head of Half-Moon Hollow’s vampire council.

Ever since Jane Jameson took over running the Vampire Council for Half-Moon Hollow, things have been a little unorthodox and that doesn’t sit well with the head office. Who would have thought vampires were so into bureaucracy and tradition?

Enter a vamp from corporate who’s determined to unseat Jane and get the council back on track—which means no more of this Kentucky neighborliness and mixing with humans, werewolves, witches, or anything else.

But Jane’s not interested in going back to the bad old days when the council was mired in corruption and tended to “accidentally eat people now and again, but she might be in over her head this time. Good thing there’s a pretty new face in town who just might be the perfect distraction and help save Jane’s career.

Molly Harper writes such fun paranormal romantic comedies. Meadow has revamped (ha ha) her life after becoming one of the undead. New name. New career with teas and plants and an oh so sensitive sense of smell. When an annoying vampire auditor strolls into Half Moon Hollow, it’s definitely not what she needs. This was cute and I loved getting to spend time with Jane, Gabriel, Dick Cheney and the gang.

Sometimes I think Half-Moon Hollow would be a fun town to live in. As long as none of the vampires decide I'd make a good lunch, anyway.
In this book we have a vampire that is turning over a new leaf. Tea leaf, that is. She has opened up a tea shop that caters to humans and vampires. She knows just the right blend for what ails ya. Picture pretty hippie vegan but with fangs.
The evil council sends a bean counter to evaluate the job our new leader is doing and meets the hippie. Can he loosen up in order to enjoy our free spirited vamp? Can they find the culprit trying to make our leader and her sidekick look bad? Will our heroine find the right tea blend so vamps can walk in the daylight? Read this book to find out the answers to these and many other questions. Some involving ghouls.

I have yet to read any of the Half-moon Hallow books that didn’t leave me wanting more. My only complaint is ..... I wish there was a new book every week, or at least every month. Yes, I’m greedy!

One thing I can count on with a Molly Harper book is interesting characters.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get a well developed romance.

The couple in question had one poignant conversation, one heated sexy moment (not that I need more), and a paragraph summary that these thing occurred after off page. Then at the end we get the I love yous. Sorry, I can’t buy into it.

The heroine had a steady fuck buddy/friend who was a really nice attractive guy she liked until a plot device was used to destroy it. Let’s make him an asshole to explain why that relationship is dumped in favor of a new fuck buddy.

This heroine wasn’t into relationships. If so, why not the first guy. We were really given a reason why her and Luke weren’t more before his dick move. So why with the enemy turned lover guy. Honestly, his list of attributes weighted less than Luke’s. He didn’t really seem like the guy for her until the last chapter. When then he says those three words when on paper these two had little chemistry on page.

I’m very disappointed. I thought the conflict with the parents got more play than this relationship I’m supposed to believe in.

Anyway, I think this story need 2 hours more listening or 20k more words to read with relationship building to make for a solid read. We’ve come a long way since the first Jane book and we aren’t getting better.

I’m torn between 3 and 4 stars. I’ll go with 3.5 and round up because it’s a MH book.

While I’ve had a lot of fun in Mystic Bayou, I’m so happy to be back in Half Moon Hollow. I just love Jane and the gang. This book follows Meadow Schwartz a fairly new vampire under the care and supervision of Jane and Dick Chaney. Meadow had some issues in her past and has more family issues than most, but she’s really gotten her life together now in Half Moon Hollow. Things are really looking up.

Now Erik Weston has come to town to investigate Dick and Jane’s (how did I not notice the Dick and Jane thing before, we need a Dick and Jane vampire kids book. LOL) unconventional management of the vampires in Half Moon Hollow and the surrounding area. He will now audit everything for the council and determine if Jane and Dick team should be replaced and new management brought in.

Some weird things are happening (because there are always weird things in Half Moon Hollow), but it is worse because Weston is here to see it all. But I think it ended up only showing them how good Dick and Jane are at their jobs. They are able to take it all in stride and keep the area safe.

This is another fun story. There are two things that really brings me to this series, the characters and the humor. Yes, there is romance, and I generally like the romances. There is also usually some sort of mystery that must be solved. And I enjoy that too. But it is the extreme fun characters and their sense of humor. They are characters that I would love to spend a weekend with (I wish it was a real place to take a vacation). If you haven’t tried this series, I highly recommend it (though I would start with the Jane Jameson Urban Fantasy series, which is only four books long and takes place, chronologically, before this series, but part of that is I like to start at the beginning of all series.).

Narration
I think Amanda Ronconi really takes this from a good to a great series. She has a great ability to bring the humor out in a story. This series also has a very large cast, which Ronconi appears to handle with ease. If you’ve never listened to her read a story you’re really missing out.

**I'd like to thank the publisher for providing me with a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

4 Snarky Fun Stars!

I’m not going to write a long review (my original review disappeared) and there is already many fantastic reviews. This was fantastic Half-Moon Hollow fun read, I love going back to the Hollow and catching up with some of my favorite vampires....(I love Dick Chaney....the vampire, not the ex-president LOL). Once again I throughly enjoyed listening to breathe life into Half-Moon Hallow’s resident vampires, she truly is fantastic and one of my favorite narrators Looking forward to more!!!

Another fun entry in this formulaic romantic comedy series.

Meadow is a vampire who's an archivist in Jane Jameson's organizational headquarters. She gets first impressions of a new auditor that's been sent to review the local office of the World Council for the Equal Treatment of the Undead. Their first meeting doesn't go well, and the personality of the new auditor does not bode well for the audit. Weston turns out to be Meadow's new neighbor and their initial antagonism turns to relationship sparks.

Their are some interesting elements (Meadow has a much darker past than is normal for this series), but in general this one doesn't divert much from the formula, which is always entertaining with a strong humor element.

Second listen.
I didn't think I had listen to this one and so I started it earlier this week and was really enjoying it.
I like that we see more than just the main characters from this series. But they were still very much a part of the story.
It makes me want to revisit these guys.
I am bumping my rating from a 3 to a 4.

Original Review.
I liked this installment of the series but it wasn’t my favorite book. The characters were funny and I loved getting more Dick and Jane.

But if I am honest I didn’t get the chemistry of the main characters together. They were both good characters but I just didn’t feel the romance.

Again Loved the Narration.

Wow! I hadn’t realized it, but it’s been over two years since the last Half-Moon Hollow book, and I was ready for more from this cozy, crazy town and its lovable denizens. Peace, Blood, and Understanding picks up after the conclusion of the previous book by following the first person POV of Meadow Schwartz. She’s a reformed vampire who had a serious anger issue after being turned against her will, and is currently under probation with Jane Jameson working as her case manager. Meadow works part-time for the Council office while making a go of her own tea shop.

Someone in Half-Moon Hollow is not happy with the way Jane and Dick are running things, which leads to Council representative Erik Weston coming to town to audit their division. He’s an arrogant, uppity jerk who doesn’t like the small town Half-Moon Hollow vibes. And of course, everything seems to go wrong when Erik arrives.

Peace, Blood, and Understanding is an enemy-to-lovers, rom-com, paranormal romance. Meadow has adjusted to her undead life and doesn’t like the idea of Erik messing things up. But she’s kind and generous, and she can’t help but try and win him over. There is an immediate attraction, which frustrates her because he’s such a jerk. Yet, as she gets to know him, Meadow starts to understand the man behind the Council persona. These enemies soon give into their desire and slowly learn to accept the other for who s/he is.

Along the way to the HEA, there are a couple side stories. First, as part of Meadow’s ongoing growth and development, she must deal with her parents, who disowned her after their illegal activities got her turned in the first place. Second, there is someone/s trying to sabotage Jane and Dick’s efforts to run a smooth, yet unconventional, Council Region. This leads to all sorts of wacky and sometimes dangerous situations. The story reminded me of the early Jane Jameson books, and I loved being back with the whole Half-Moon Hollow gang.

Peace, Blood, and Understanding is filled Ms. Harper’s trademark wit and silliness. I have missed this series and loved revisiting the gang. While not a perfect story, it hit all the right buttons and provided lots of fun.

My Rating: B, Liked It

These books make me laugh and this one is no different. I like how Jane and Dick run things differently, sadly that brings them attention from the council with stick in the mud Weston to look things over. Meeting Weston was fun because we got to see him from Meadow's perspective. I loved how she poked at him by not letting know the ways of Half-Moon Hollow. Of course things went down hill from there, with Dick doing his dick things, someone creating havoc at the council for Weston to report on. By the end of the book things had changed, for the better for all of them.

I love almost every book by Molly Harper but this book unfortunately just wasn't it. I did not like the Hero. I liked the Meadow and I felt as if she was settling for less. I really wish the author hadn't destroyed Luke because I kindof liked him. This book just didn't do it for me.

This may be ok for die hard fans. The 'meet cute' came off as rather lame, and showed Weston to be an ass. This is supposed to be a set-up for him to be redeemed in the manner of Mr. Darcy. It would have taken a lot more to have pulled that off, and a much better writer. While I am on the subject of Weston, he is supposed to be an older vampire, but he comes off as too modern. Now for the writing, he "was so tightly wound he was practically a clock". I will let that lame line speak for itself. The plot was predictable and formulaic, which is forgivable, but there was no humor either, which is not.

Cue happy little Snoopy dance! It’s been a minute since there’s been a new Half-Moon Hollow book, so when I found out Peace, Blood, and Understanding was coming out, I couldn’t contain my excitement.

While I like all of Molly Harper’s work, there’s just something about her Jane Jameson/Half-Moon Hollow series that will always be my favorite. When I pick up a new book from this series, it’s just like meeting up with old friends.

Here’s what’s going on: Meadow, a vampire on probation, has been doing everything in her power to live a tranquil life. Running her a tea store and working for the Council in their archive department has kept her focused and busy but when a run in with jackass threatens her calm, she’s determined to keep herself far from the attractive, yet arrogant vampire. When Erik Weston, auditor for the Council, shows up in Meadow’s teashop, he doesn’t want to be attracted to the annoying but attractive vampire he ran into when he first came to town. The only thing he has time for is facts and figures—not falling for Meadow.

While Meadow seems to reciprocate the feelings, she’s hesitant to start something when Erik is investigating Jane’s leadership and determined to bring Dick down.

Did I mention I love this series? This was a bit different from the previous books. While it focused on the romance between two new characters, it also focused heavily on Dick and Jane and the problems they were facing with the council business. I did like that this one had extra layers to it.

Erik and Meadow were definitely a chalk and cheese pair; he’s straight laced and facts/figures oriented and she’s what Dick lovingly refers to as ‘Hippy-Dippy. They’re not the type of couple that works on paper—they’re not even in the same filing cabinet—but that’s what made them such a fun and interesting couple to watch.

Jane and Dick had their hands full with the audit and with someone trying to sabotage the council. I had a feeling who was behind it but I second guessed myself a time or two.

Like the other books in the series, we get to see what’s going on with the other residents of Half-Moon Hollow and I enjoyed that.

As always, Amanda Ronconi nailed this narration.

While this is an already established series, this one does read as a standalone.

Overall, another great addition to the series. Even though there were a few different threads going on, each were fleshed out and fully developed.

It was so great to be back in Half-Moon Hollow again.

Meadow Schwartz was not born by that name but her story is one you hear everyday. She was raised a rich debutante to an illustrious family who raised racehorses until their luck turned and they used their vast property and barns to cook meth. Things were great until they crossed the wrong people who turned their only daughter to teach them a lesson. Since having a vampire daughter wasn’t yet something the socially elite did yet, they abandoned their daughter to her anger and she then left a trail of blood as she tracked down the people who did this to her. You know normal rags to riches or rich to vampire story.

Under the tender loving guidance of The Vampire Council, Meadow lucked out by having her probationary period (better known as don’t screw up or we’ll stake you) supervision under Jane Jameson and Dick Chaney in Half Moon Hollow. In Half-Moon Hollow, Meadow has embraced pacifism and become a “hippie-dippie as Dick likes to call her. Her naturally blended teas have become very popular amongst vampires who like to blend them with their blood to promote better vampiric health. She is also the stand-in for the Council Chapter’s archivist who is on a semi-permanent vacation.

Meadow has finally gotten her undead life together and found some peace at least until Corporate Jackass Erik Weston arrives in Half-Moon Hollow to audit the leadership of Dick and Jane. He is so pompous and takes every opportunity to bad mouth everything from the Town to the people in it. Of course, someone is taking advantage of Weston’s arrival to make Dick and Jane look really, really bad which is not helping matters. Meadow will do whatever she has to do to save their jobs because not only could Meadow be shipped under the supervision of another vampire who isn’t so caring as Jane but her friends in Half-Moon Hollow have become her new family.

I always enjoy returning to Half-Moon Hollow. I like Jane Jameson and all of our favorite characters from this series. This is also one of my favorite audiobook series Amanda Ronconi does such a great job.

Story 4 stars Narration 5 stars. Molly Harper and Amanda Ronconi go together like peanut butter and jelly. For that reason, I’ve always listened to this series. I’m a few behind as far as this series, but jumped back in when I found this on Audible.

The books are always humorous and light even if we are talking about vampires living among humans. It was a bit weird to have Jane(her most famous character)be a side character rather than the heroine this time around. But I got over that and just enjoyed-as I always do when visiting Half Moon Hollow. It was also fun catching up with other favorite side characters. Since this was an enemy to lover story, the bad guy is the hero of the story.

At just under seven hours, it wasn’t a long listen, but it seemed perfect for this particular story. I would recommend this to ages 16 plus due to sexual situations. It really was a fun listen/read.

There is nothing wrong with this book, it was just not for me.

I have really liked some of the books in this series, and not connected with others. It's not the books, it's really just a fit thing. Some of them don't fit me.

I felt like this book was trying a bit to hard to be clever and snappy. For some readers it would probably strike just the right tone of cleverness, but for me I felt it was too much. Again, nothing wrong with the book, just not the book for me.

I also found Meadow just a bit too "woo-woo" for my tastes. Maybe it's because I'm a city-dweller who loves the big city, but I found myself connecting with the annoying guy from the big city more than with the Half-Moon Hollow folks, which was a pretty good indication this wasn't the book for me.

Nice to see Jane, Dick, Gabriel, and the rest of the Half-Moon Hollow group again. I'm tempted to give this 4 stars, but 3 seems more appropriate. There's less plot than the last books of this series, less depth to the new characters (or maybe they just have fewer disasters happening?); but it is still enjoyable, and I bought it to add to my own collection.

I loved this. Harper's heroines are enormously empowering. They are kind and compassionate but never doormats. They are smart and accomplished and self aware and flawed and funny. In short, they are always what I want to be when I grow up (fangs and all!!)

Sweet but not the best in the series. It was quick and enjoyable, nothing more, nothing less.
As always, I liked the humor and the story lines and getting a peek at the characters from the other books in the series. And narration by Amanda Ronconi was also great as expected.
It was another enjoyable light-hearted romp with the folks in Half Moon Hollow, if not a bit forgettable. But I did enjoy reading it!

It was so good to finally be back in the Jane Jameson world! I felt like it had been forever since I had seen Jane, Gabriel, Dick and Andrea. Peace, Blood and Understanding brought all our past characters out to play.

Our synopsis would make you believe that the whole story centered on Jane and her position on the council. But that is not all we experience. There is a new character that Jane has under her wing. Meadow Swartz is under probation and is doing what she can to live a peaceful life. Just work in the Council's records and try to make her store a success. She doesn't need this stick-up-his-butt investigator messing with her vibe! Especially when Erik Weston is in Half Moon Hollow to investigate Meadow's friends.

Erik is not happy to be in the small town of Half Moon Hollow and he has an axe to grind. It doesn't help that anything that can go wrong for Jane and Dick, does. Just proof to Erik that Jane and Dick are incapable of running the Half Moon Hollow council.

It was hard to see Meadow stuck in the middle between Erik and her friends. However the enemies to lovers storyline we find with Meadow and Erik took us through a lot of emotions. This was a fun mystery and romance. Lot's of danger and conflict for our characters.

Peace, Blood and Understanding was a lot of fun. It was awesome to be back in this world, although the length of time between books had me a bit cloudy on everyone's stories. Molly Harper can twist a great deal of love and mystery with a good dash of humor. For fans of Half Moon Hollow you definitely don't want to miss this!

And I can't leave off without praising the great narration work done by Amanda Ronconi. She's a superstar in the narrator world and does the humor and mystery of this series beautifully. Harper and Ronconi are an amazing pair!

I had been listening to the Mystic Bayou series via audible by Molly Harper. So when I saw their was a new book I immediately pounced on it thinking it was going to be a Mystic Bayou book. The cover looked a little out of place considering the tone of the others, but I was far too eager and didn't pay attention.

Then I'm listening to it going, what the hecking heck, why are we not talking about the other characters I know and love. And who is this Jane person who sounds to familiar.

I read Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs when it was first released, and Molly Harper was a debut author. Holly Hell has this girl tightened up her writing chops. I struggled with the first book, because I could see how it had the potential to be good, but it wasn't quiet their yet. And now, I would devour a Molly Harper book in a heartbeat.

So the great thing you need to know is that even though this is book 7 in a multibook multi series book world, you can still jump in and have a good time without conquering all that back catalogue. And now you have back catalogue to go through.

The bad news is, their are threads there, that while she does a good job of summing up, you would probably be like, I know their are layers, and I want more of them, and maybe they would make more sense if I came at it from the beginning, slowly adding them on, as opposed to trying to peel them back later on.

Seriously, Molly Harper is a hecking good time, and you should read all of her books. They are sexy and funny at the same time.
