Trusted networks: The key to achieve world-class health outcomes on a shoestring
Is it possible to offer world-class healthcare services to 1.3 million people with just US $500 per capita per year in a country going through a major crisis?
A group of leaders gathered in Colombia to answer this question in 2015, with little room to maneuver. The country was going through a difficult peace process with guerilla fighters, the population was migrating towards extreme political poles, the local currency was hitting record lows, and there were mounting doubts about the sustainability of the healthcare sector, with major organizations declaring insolvency.
This book describes the journey of the group, and how betting on trust enabled them to create an integrated network capable of producing impressive results in less than three years. When compared with all of the countries participating in the Organization for Cooperation and Economic Development (OECD), the network was ranked first in terms of the perceived health status of the population it serves and in wait times for cataract surgery, with many healthcare quality indicators in the top 10. The book also includes an agenda for the future, with areas of improvement of the current efforts, as well as opportunities to create a new approach to integrated networks that go beyond healthcare services to the creation of health and well-being, worldwide.
