For fans of Too Many Carrots, this hilarious picture book follows a rabbit who's in for a big surprise it's no longer an only child!
Rabbit loves having everything—its flower, carrots, and stretching area—to itself. But then one day Rabbit's parents have BIG news . . . Rabbit now has siblings! Thankfully, the fox next door loves having rabbits around. Maybe she can help?
In the tradition of books like Wolfie the Bunny, author-illustrator—and sister to MANY siblings—Lorna Scobie crafts a gleeful picture book that tackles the evergreen dilemma of older siblings who must learn to share and give up solitude in exchange for the love and warmth of siblinghood. Which, as it turns out, is actually fantastic.
The illustrations in this were adorable--colorful and with wide-eyed, expressive bunny characters. A bunny is frustrated when he gets a boatload of siblings loses all his privacy. He pawns his siblings off to a neighborhood fox (UM??) then realizes he misses them. When he goes to Fox's tree, they're all having a party and are safe and sound. It was definitely funny and plays on the readers assumptions, but my adult brain couldn't ignore the reality that he could have left his siblings to be viciously eaten! But the humor definitely translated, so...I still enjoyed it.
Loved the drawings and so smart to write about being the only child in a family of rabbits.. which obviously ends not being an only child.. and the advantages and disadvantages within ;)
Most adults know the term "breed like rabbits", and I think plenty of kids do, too (I know I did when I was younger). Rabbit! Rabbit! Rabbit! takes that concept to the extreme. Children will love the page turns as the baby rabbit situation gets more and more out of control.
And I loved the idea of a "stretching area"!
I thought the simple illustrations worked well, and I liked that the rabbits had their own distinct personalities.
It's fairly common knowledge that rabbits have large families, but the main bunny in this book is happily and hoppily an only child... until their parents share the news-- there's a new fuzzy family member... and then another, and another, and oh dear, that's a LOT of rabbits encroaching on this poor bunny's personal space! Charming, humorous, and fantastically fluffy, Rabbit! Rabbit! Rabbit! is a new and boisterous take on a growing family-- or if you're like me and you just love cute critters, you'll definitely want to add this book to your burrow.
A story about new siblings. How funny to use rabbits! Oh yes, and let’s introduce a rabbit nemesis into the mix, like a fox, just to make things interesting.
Some picture books set the scene within the first line of the book but the fact that the scene was strategically set over quite a few spreads highlights how self absorbed and content the character was, in order to set the stage for the new baby sibling, and the next and the next.
Takeaway: sometimes the setting can be one line or a few spreads
Adorable! Rabbit loves having everything to himself until he has to share with a sibling...then more siblings. What should he do? Give them away, of course! A delightful story, cute illustrations, and a nice twist at the end.
This would make a sweet intro to a unit on animal families, talking about multiples, sharing, etc. Lots to see here!
The adult that I am saw the darker side of this with the rabbit and the fox. But I also loved that side of it, will the fox eat them or won't he? And there is still a question mark about it at the end. We never go to read fox's diary. The rabbit stuff is fun. Take some time on the full page spread to look at all the different things the rabbits are doing.
Very funny picture book with appealing whimsical art style with rabbits with giant eyes. Rabbit is NOT happy about getting a whole lot of siblings, who keep coming and coming. Maybe Mr. Fox can help him get rid of them? Cute surprise happy ending! Might be fun for storytime.
First published in the UK in 2020 and in USA in 2021 with different illustrations on the book jacket. Interesting premise that there was only one rabbit who was satisfied being the only one, but suddenly there are lots and lots of rabbits. This wasn’t really a very satisfying story for me.
A good pick for new sibling booklists. Only child Rabbit is joined by a flock of new siblings. Rabbit learns that sharing is hard, but can be worthwhile as well. Recommend for fans of Another Brother by Matthew Cordell.
I am officially a super fan of author/illustrator Lorna Scobie!! Clever, funny, endearing are hallmarks of her stories & lively, colorful illustrations (and fonts!!! don't forget the font styles!!) leap off the page in a delightful way!!
Cute! Cute! Cute! A funny story about a rabbit that is an only child and loves it! Until it is not the only rabbit anymore. Can the nearby fox help out??
A fun read aloud about family - expecially too many siblings. The rabbits appear with wide-eyed innocence and limited text. Recommended for both school and public libraries.
