★★★★ "beautifully drawn" and "laugh out loud funny"
His love has been captured by dragons, his sword hates him, and - let’s face it - he’s not getting any younger. Welcome to The Middle Age.Sir Quimp is in luck! He's just discovered the legendary Blade of Woe. It’s the exact magic weapon he needs to rescue his sweetheart!
Can a bumbling, middle-aged knight save his love, avoid starting a war, and not get killed by his own cursed sword?
The Middle Age - Sword Troubles is the first volume collecting Steve Conley’s “fantastically funny and “wonderfully illustrated comic series. The story has received multiple honors including “Best Cartoonist and “Best Webcomic nominations in both the Eisner Awards (San Diego Comic-Con) and Ringo Awards (Baltimore Comic-Con).
If you like The Princess Bride, Monty Python, and Discworld, then you’ll love this action-packed, mildly stabby, and hilarious high-fantasy adventure!
This is a real page-turner and a laugh riot. Our silly hero is charming; his blade is not black, but is very snarky. How is a fellow supposed to quest when no one wants him to complete it?
He's not a hero for the ages, just... the middle one. It's well-written and funny, clever, and the art & color are delightful. It's a must. I can't wait for volume 2!
This short book was a fun little story that I enjoyed reading. I remember this book was recommended to me a while back because I enjoyed the Groo graphic novel series. The comparison makes sense to me though I enjoyed Groo's adventures better than Quimp's. This did have one of my favorite fantasy tropes, which is the sarcastic talking sword. I can't get enough of that trope in books, and I love whenever I can find it.
This was such a fun read and what I like in my comics: fantasy, lighthearted and oh so funny! I really laughed out loud. It's a great formulation of pretty benign humor but super smart/strong in my opinion. Nothing really dirty or in poor taste. Got book 2. Is there a book 3 coming to print? Can't get enough!
A fun fantasy comic about an inept, but pure-hearted knight and a cursed, sentient sword going on an adventure together. The writing is clever and the artwork is fantastic - a unique mix of clean, exaggerated linework and painterly colors. Even the lettering is great!
This was a lot of fun. The artwork was round, simple, and pleasing. I never got lost in the dialogue. Sure, the jokes got repetitive, but they were still cute.
Silliness and originality are right on with this piece. The unpredictable adventures and goofy encounters of our hero kept me turning pages and giggling out loud.
