What is a father to do when he senses something is off about Ryan, his daughter’s fiancée? Everyone loves him, and thinks he's the perfect catch. But Ed knows better. His intuition tells him Ryan is dangerous. Should he act on it?

(To be fair, I‘m probably not the right person to ask since my husband and I once hired a PI to look into our daughter’s boyfriend, ha! As it turned out we were correct to follow our intuition. So, I’m on team ‘Follow Your Instincts.)

But what about Ed? Should he follow his instincts? It turns out he has reasons that bring his motivation into question, so it's unclear. But he decides to go to great lengths to prove Ryan is not who he says he is, and risks everything to do so. No one, including his wife, agrees with him. Ed’s research into Ryan becomes an obsession, one that threatens to cost him his job and his family.

The author did an excellent job in keeping me on my toes, and uncertain if Ed was losing his grasp on reality or if Ryan was indeed not quite the catch everyone thought he was. This was an addictive read that I raced through.

I didn’t connect with a previous book by this author but I’m glad I gave this one a chance.

A new boyfriend, a sudden engagement…and now rushing head-long into marriage!? Wait! This is all happening too fast!

Abbie has brought her new boyfriend Ryan home to meet her parents. And her dad Ed takes an instant dislike to him. He instinctively feels something is off. He just seemstoo perfect. This guys track record is spotless. He served in the military, volunteers at a hospice and frequently visits his mother's grave.

Ed is now determined to discover and expose who the real Ryan is. Yes, he may have disliked Abbie’s other boyfriends in the past. I mean, no one is really good enough for Ed’s daughter. But this time it’s different. This time Ed sees true evil behind Ryan’s eyes!

At what lengths will Ed go to prove his theory?

More importantly, was he right? Or did he just completely sabotage his daughter’s future?
One way to find out that’s right! You’ve got to pick this one up!

I’ve read several books by this author but this was the first time I tried the audio version and the narrator did a fabulous job. Even though I think multiple narrators would have given it a just a bit more flash. But that’s just me!💁🏻‍♀

Already looking forward to more books by this talented author!

It is a countdown to the wedding and Ed is determined to make sure his daughter, Abby, is getting "the catch" she thinks she is!!

This father of the bride has some bad vibes about his 23 year old daughter's fiance, Ryan. He starts "googling" on Ryan because he just can't shake the feeling. When he looks at Ryan, his eyes are like "points of darkness".

11 days to the wedding.....

Nothing is adding up, someone turns up dead, and time is ticking!

6 days to the wedding.....

Ed snoops some more, he finds some questionable pictures, he even checks out Ryan's bookshelves!! What does he read?

The closer the wedding date, the harder it was to put this one down! Ed (the ultimate helicopter dad) was such an endearing character. His dark humor had me laughing out loud at his obsessive behavior (it is his daughter so it is understandable, he thinks the guy is evil).

Highly engaging, fast paced and all the crazy train madness. An excellent, entertaining psychological thriller. Thanks to Jayne for recommending this one!

Ed always knew deep down in his gut that his daughter Abbie’s Fiancé wasn’t for her, there was just something dark down deep in Ryan’s soul that know one could see but him,

A daughter, a father, a fiancé and a whole lot of suspicion, mistrust, lies, and doubt make for a gripping, hard to put down page turner!

When Abbie introduces her father (ED) to her fiancé, Ryan; Ed instantly mistrusts Ryan. On the surface, Ryan seems like the perfect catch - he is successful, charming and handsome. But Ed can feel that something isn't quite right with the young man.

This book was gripping from the very beginning. I loved not being sure about who was to be believed in this book. Was Ed being an overprotective father? Were Ed's instincts, right? This was all part of the fun of the book for me. With the days to the wedding counting down, Ed is on a nonstop mission to find the truth!

I was fully invested in this book from the very beginning. I loved being along for the ride, wanting to know what would happen next. The pacing was spot on! As Ed searches for the truth, the tension and suspense grew. I could feel Ed's need for answers coupled with his frustrations.

This book had a nice number of twists and turns. I enjoyed the characters and the various POV's in this book. T.M. crafted a riveting, fun and engrossing book. I can't wait for what he comes up with next.

I listened to the audiobook and enjoyed the narration.

Wow, The Catch does not hold back! Another fantastic read from TM Logan, I read this quickly, needling Tom see what was going to happen next. It is far from being predictable and has so many twists and turns you will feel like you are on a never ending roller coaster. You always know when you pick up a book from this author that you are in for a treat.

Abbie’s new boyfriend is a catch. Everybody thinks so.. except for her father Ed. Ryan is smart, has a great job, popular and good looking. But Ed thinks he is too good to be true. When they announce that they are getting married he become a obsessed in finding out the truth about his son in law to be. Some of the lengths that he goes to are insane and crazy.

You never quite know who to believe. Is Ed being over protective and paranoid? Is Ryan hiding something? You need to read this to believe it

Thanks to NetGalley and Bonnier Books UK for my advanced copy of this book to read. All opinions are my own and are in no way biased

“No one actually knows anyone do they, not really. They think they know, or they know what the other person is willing to show them, but they don’t truly know them. It's impossible. The only person you can truly know is yourself. This has never been so true than it is in The Catch. A façade can hide many things. Some things may be hidden so deep, not even the most insightful person can see beneath the surface. The three Ds, deception, disposal, and denial are critical, in this tale of betrayal. This thriller is intense with a constant sense of foreboding. The narrator expertly brought the story to life, adding a layer of intrigue and high anxiety. Thank you, NetGalley and Bonnier UK Audio for my audiobook. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

I was disappointed with this and just skimmed the second half so I could find out the ending. I found the beginning was dragging and found the father's immediate obsession a bit unbelievable. I hate to give up on a book and not read it all but was just bored of it.

A robust enough fast paced ‘is he bad/‘is he good’story

Ryan is perfect, handsome, intelligent, debonair and even plays his guitar to the very ill at his local hospice in his spare time

Abbie has found her dream man and wants nothing more than to marry him, she is 100% besotted

Ed, her Dad, however has an instinctive bad feeling, something isn’t right, the last time he had one of these ‘feelings he didn’t act on it and a disaster happened that wrecked his families lives

Is Ed right? Is Ryan the new Ted Bundy or is he actually just a decent hard working good good guy, sickening in his virtue lol but none the less a dream?

The book takes you on Ed’s journey to find this out and how his own life takes a steep downward turn as he tries to prove what he feels

Well written, thumpingly good characters to hate and others to love and although at times a bit eye raising on the believable stakes a real page turning high drama family thriller that hits all the right spots as it speeds you onto a quite frightening conclusion

Make sure you catch THE CATCH.

WHY? This 10-star read is unputdownable and a real catch.

When Abbie Collier introduces her new smart, successful and handsome fiancee Ryan to her family, Abbie's mother and grandmother think he's the perfect catch.

Abbie's father Ed, however, senses that there is something "not quite right" with Ryan.

Is Ed being a super-critical, irritating, and an overprotective Dad?

Or are Ed's instincts correct?

Will Ed's efforts reveal that his future son-in-law is a fraud and a psychopath?

The majority of the book is told from Ed's POV as he painstakingly dissects Ryan's past.

This ultra-compelling thriller is gripping from start to finish, with many twists and turns.

This is my fourth and favorite T.M. Logan book and, to date, it's one of my best reads of 2021.

I listened to the audiobook and the narration was flawless.

I look forward to listening to this author's future titles.

Ed wasn't expecting to find out that his daughter Abbies boyfriend is in fact her fiance once he finally meets Ryan for the first.
Like any protective father, he's a little wary that they're rushing into marriage too soon.
The rest of the family believe that Ryan is the perfect catch, so whys Ed's intuition telling him something different?

Seeing Ed's slow obsession really sets up the first half of the novel, his adamant that theres something not quite right with Ryan leads him into some awkward situations!
His drive to find out answers also sees him putting his job in jeopardy.
But is he right?

With the couple hoping to tie the knot next month it helps add stakes as Ed is quickly running out of time.
Ryan does seem too good to be true and helps add abit of ambiguity, whilst Abbie's mum Claire thinks her husband's reactions are ridiculous. His also had a history of scaring off Abbie's previous boyfriends, which adds some good uncertainty during Ed's chapters.

Strongly written with great memorable characters, it kept me on the edge of my seat.

In 'The Catch', Ed senses something dangerous about his soon-to-be son-in-law Ryan during their first meeting. His wife Claire and daughter Abbie won't hear of it as he's never approved of her exes. However, he's determined not to let her walk down the aisle, even if it means taking risks and going down the dark road..

A catchy premise with a promising start - Ed secretly gathering information on Ryan, not caring what Claire and Abbie thought of his suspicions. The story was mostly told from his perspective which would've been interesting if he had at least an iota of intelligence. Instead he was a bumbling idiot who:

- Consistently made poor decisions.
- Failed to cover his tracks and take precautionary measures.
- Put his job on the line just based on his gut instinct. Here's a tip: hire someone else from the get-go so that you can keep your job, get the dirt on Ryan and not attract the wrong attention.
- Thought that reiterating his doubts about Ryan would convince others.

The characters had no personality. Ed's concern came across as overbearing and paranoid. There were hints that perhaps he had a shady side . Claire pooh-poohed everything he said while Abbie either gushed about Ryan or got upset with Ed.

In terms of characterization, Ryan was the worst. He was described as handsome, charming, charismatic, kind - the whole package but none rang true because his traits were told, not shown. What I found especially grating was the charming bit. If you can't create someone with charm, don't call him charming!

After enduring Ed's foolishness, all I got was him . Why was this pivotal scene not written? The denouement was like every other that's been done to death, inclusive of Sudden Stupidity Syndrome and boatloads of unrealism:

My favourite part was Claire . That was so laughably bad and ridiculous it was hilarious. Moral of the story? Don't go anywhere without a .

Overall, 'The Catch' reeled me in with its interesting premise but winded up being dull, frustrating and predictable.

Great.

A very enjoyable read. A father thinks his daughter's boyfriend is not the person he portrays himself to be and decides to look into his past before their wedding. It does start slow, but very quickly the pace really picks up as does the tension. I do actually recommend this book if you enjoy psychological thrillers.

Another T.M. Logan addictive read, good plot, full of suspense and again I struggled to put it down.

When Abbie brings her new boyfriend Ryan home to meet her family everything looks perfect. Ryan seems to have it all, good looks, decent job, decorated soldier and highly thought of, so why does Abbie’s father Ed feel the way he does. Ed is sure he can spot a monster but everything points to him being wrong. The pressure goes up a notch when a wedding appears to be imminent and Ed faces a race against time to convince the rest of the family that Ryan is not what he seems. The problem the more digging Ed does the bigger hole he makes for himself, pressure from work and the risk of alienating the rest of the family are only making things more difficult.

There are some really good characters in this one, added to the addictive plot and suspense made this a very entertaining read. This is a book you will race through because you want to know what’s going to happen.

4.5 heart-racing stars and if I could put a racing heart as an emoji I would!

A genuine psychological thriller that grabs you by the throat and throws you around! I did find the section about Ed a little long-winded (half-a-star) and I was ready to move on. And then I did, at full speed, no time to breathe.

I did guess a few of the minor twists but I didn’t know who the craziest was in the whirlwind that ensued. Once things begin to unravel I found I couldn’t stop reading!

An interesting epilogue.

I love Mr Logan's thrillers they never fail to entertain, the characters always highly engaging and always with clever underlying faultlines to mess with your perception of them

The Catch was excellent- A father's obsession, a daughter who has seemingly found the perfect life partner, the mother caught in the middle and a twisty plot that keeps you fully immersed throughout.

There's so much to love here especially if you are looking for a read that will distract you temporarily from the madness going on around you and keep you guessing on just who might be lying about what in this group dynamic psychological drama

Highly recommended. Fuller review when the blog is back up and running.

Abbey arrives home with her new boyfriend. No roll back her fiancé who she will marry in a few weeks. Yet all is not well between the two main men in her life. Her father and Ryan, Mr Perfect / "The Catch".

Ryan is perfect in all ways, he has a successful job, charm, good looks, ex military and so the list goes on. He will stop at nothing to win over his future in-laws and feels he is being judged harshly - or is he???

Ed, Abbey's father detects something more sinister and disturbing in this new man in Abbeys life, and he is determined to find out what lies beneath, despite his wife and daughter believing he is just reluctant to let her go. Who is right?

Is her father just being paranoid and is her fiancé really a "Catch". Abbey is getting married soon, so time is running out in more ways than one.

Loved this book and devoured in one sitting. Not the most complex plot but the story telling was excellent, the descriptions vivid and the excitement just kept building.

Ed thinks his daughter's new boyfriend Ryan is a psychopath. He has no proof - just gut instinct and Ryan's chilling eyes.

This story is literally a cat and mouse game - who is following who? Who is the one with the upper hand? Is Ryan a psychopath or is Ed just an overprotective father who cannot overcome his deep grief and guilt over the death of Jonathan, desperate not to let Abbie (his daughter) down like he feels he did Jonathan.

I can't really say much more without spoiling twists, though the build up (personally) didn't feel much. I was still expecting something big to happen near the end, when I realised the story was over. Maybe I'd just seen so many amazing reviews of it and built the story up too much to fully feel the twists and surprise. I'm not sure. Personally I just didn't feel it was very dramatic/surprising. It was a good read though, that I enjoyed reading.

Now this is the epitome of a psychological thriller! Absolutely superb.

I'll admit, I was slightly terrified that it wouldn't match up to my expectations. The Holiday was and still is my no*1 read from last year and didn't think anything could match up BUT Oh My Days this was incredible.

The characters were perfectly scripted, you could picture them so clearly and I felt every emotion possible. You go from sadness to feeling terrified in a split second, it got to the point where I could literally feel Ryan's breath on my neck... he's one scary and manipulative character, one of the best baddies I've encountered on page.

Each character was as strong as the next. I loved Ed and at the same time I felt like he needed protecting himself. You do start questioning at around 2/3 of the way whether he actually needs professional help.

The setting was a stroke of genius, it most probably helped that I know the Peak District (Castleton holds happy memories) so I felt that I was walking alongside them at times.

I loved the ending. Really well thought out and wrapped up beautifully.

I honestly could not rate this any higher. Tim you have worked your magic again, I can't wait to read what's next!

The biggest thanks to netgalley and Bonnier Books for the ARC.

Everyone likes Abbie’s handsome fiancé, Ryan. He’s working for a good company, he has a university degree, and he’s a decorated veteran who served in Afghanistan. He is friendly, charming, wealthy, and dotes on Abbie. Her mother and grandmother think he’s perfect for her - a real catch! But Abbie’s father, Ed, doesn’t feel the same way. There’s something about Ryan that makes Ed uneasy and suspicious. With Abbie and Ryan’s wedding fast approaching, Ed is determined to find out more about Ryan.

In this fast paced psychological thriller the suspense builds as Ed and Ryan engage in a game of cat and mouse when Ed begins to discover inconsistencies in Ryan’s background. It is gripping and a real page turner with a twist at the end.

Thanks to my ŷ friend, Jan B. who called my attention to this book!

I have mixed feelings about this story...

I would have liked for it to be more fast paced and with fewer pages since I felt that at some points it dragged on!
The revealing at the end wasn't satisfactory either for me!

I liked the main character and I felt sorry for him!
It was an easy story to read and in general I enjoyed reading most of it!

tragedy pace, for its crazy "father of the bride

Setting: Nottingham & Derbyshire; present day.
When Abbie brings her new boyfriend, Ryan, home to meet her parents, dad Ed is not pleased. He senses there is so wrong about Ryan so is particularly concerned when the couple say they are engaged and more so when they announce a wedding a mere seven months away, allegedly because Abbie's grandmother has cancer and Abbie wants her to be at the wedding. Ed is determined to prove that Ryan is not good enough for his daughter and manages to alienate both Abbie and his wife, Claire, whilst trying to do so - finally employing a private detective agency to research Ryan's background. But will Ed's suspicions prove to be true or will he just show himself as being an over-protective father?....
I have loved my previous reads from this author and decided to read this one prior to the release of the 4-part TV adaptation, showing in the UK from tonight (Wednesday 25th, Channel 5) - although I have already noted that part of the setting has been changed! Told from the point of view of several different characters, including Ryan himself, this was a tense and suspenseful read, thoroughly gripping and with an excellent ending. Looking forward to reading more of this author's books - 9/10.

I listened to this via audio book, having recently read The holiday which I loved. The book was read by Philip Stevens who was a really good narrator.

This had the same high intensity, and left me wanting to know what happens next and if anything I thought it was slightly better than The holiday

Abbey brings home her new fiancé Ryan to introduce him to the family, everyone immediately falls in love with the Charming, successful and handsome Ryan. Everyone that is, but Ed, Abbey’s Dad. Something about him just doesn’t seem right and Ed decides he needs to find out what that is before it’s too late when they get married in the next month:. However Ed is the only one that thinks that way. Is it all in his mind or is there really something fishy about him. He starts digging into Ryan’s past but what will he find out if anything and will it pull the family apart?

The more I read of this book, the more I enjoyed it. I think I’ve now found another favourite author and have already started on an earlier TM Logan book - Lies, which seems equally as good.

When Abbey brings home her fiancé Ryan to introduce him to the family, everyone is completely enamoured with him. Ryan is thoughtful, charming, successful and Abbey is besotted with him. What’s not to like? But Abbey’s father, Ed, doesn’t warm to Ryan at all. Ed feels something about Ryan is off but he’s very much alone in that line of thinking. With Abbey and Ryan planning to get married in a month’s time, Ed has very little time to start digging into Ryan’s past if he wants to stop the wedding from happening. Is Ed paranoid? A massively overprotective dad? Or is Ryan really not what he seems to be?

T.M. Logan always manages to come up with the basics of a realistic scenario, that then spins entirely out of control. The Catch is no different. A father who doesn’t approve of his daughter’s choice of partner isn’t that hard to imagine. In Ed’s case, it’s not just the close bond between Abbey and himself that is causing this overprotectiveness. There is more to it than that, but that’s something you’ll have to discover for yourself.

The Catch is a hugely suspenseful story and the tension builds up slowly, as Ed travels down an increasingly darker path. How far will a father go? Throughout, the reader is left to wonder about Ryan. But also about Ed himself. It isn’t until the end, when the pieces of the puzzle start to come together, that you realise how cleverly T.M. Logan has plotted this story.

That said, I found some of it a little over the top and it required me to suspend disbelief sometimes. Despite that, I actually thoroughly enjoyed this book though and I flew through its pages. There’s always something remarkably pleasing about seeing ordinary characters thrown head first into extraordinary circumstances. It’s pretty easy to imagine yourself in Ed’s shoes, wondering what you would do in that same situation. And while I did figure out how things would end, the journey to get there was extremely exciting.

Is the prospective son-in-law too good to be true or is the father an overprotective deluded fantasist?
A lot of psychological thrillers are more suspenseful than thrilling, but this enthralling new novel from T M Logan is definitely both, with its edge-of-the-seat shock ending.
Logan gives us convincing glimpses into the damaged human psyche, whilst tantalising the reader’s own mind with questions and doubts throughout the narrative. I enjoyed Logan's previous ('The Holiday) - but I found this one even more compelling and it will be a hard act to follow.

I’ve read and enjoyed all of T M Logan’s books and whilst this one was no different I don’t think that it quite matched The Holiday however, I still found it fast paced, intriguing and full of twists and turns.

I found the storyline of the new boyfriend/ over protective father a little bit predictable and the whole plot did seem to be exhausted in parts during the first half however that being said the second half of the book was when everything began to unfold and it managed to redeem itself.

All in all a great thriller book and perfect if you enjoy a good suspense novel.
