Seducing an Heiress on a Train

Rate this book
Seducing an heiress has never been easier

Roguish Oliver, Viscount Conway, desperately needs money to save his family’s estate from debt collectors, and he knows just what to do - marry an heiress. When he sets foot on a train leaving Southampton, he bumps into Rayne, the most bewitching woman he’s ever met, and as luck would have it, she’s an American heiress. The woman swears she won’t marry, especially a fortune hunter. Oliver must win her for his bride at any cost, even if it means compromising the lady on a train and stealing her heart.

Avoiding fortune hunters has never been harder

Rayne Egerton is happy to escape the New York ballrooms to travel with her father through England while he tends to business. What should have been an enjoyable Christmas vacation turns upside down with a moment of unexpected passion when a stranger in the cabin next to her steals a scorching kiss. The mysterious Lord Conway is everything that Rayne desires and fears in a man with his sinfully good looks, wicked smile and devastating kiss. As heiress to her father’s fortune, she isn’t going to give up her freedom for any man unless he can love her without her money. As the train rolls through snowy English countryside, she starts to wonder if Oliver may be the Christmas gift she’d been secretly hoping for.

Awesome novella
Every page was brilliant, some took you back with references to past books and characters, others gave sensual reading and emotional reactions, but every one was written perfectly and gave pleasure.

Lord Oliver Conway is broke his family bordering on destitution, they are about to loose their home unless he marries an Heiress.

Rayne Egerton is an American Heiress , she wants to marry , but the man must love her not her money.
That’s a hard thing to judge most men only want the money , and Rayne is scared that she will chose the wrong suitor.

When the two meet in a library, within minutes they are embroiled in a passionate kiss , such attraction is unheard of but these two are drawn like magnets.

The day after they meet on a train to Inverness, can this be fate or is it a plan to get her fortune, is Oliver for real , it feels right.
Time will tell.

Excellent book super enjoyable and some fantastic characters that need their own stories telling.

I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review

"I wish we could have met under different circumstances." The man cupped her chin and leaned down, feathering his lips over hers with one last ghost of a kiss." Sigh. Oh yes, heavy sigh.
Magical. A meeting in the library at a ball by chance. Or was it?
Rayne Egerton was visiting from America with her father for him to conduct some business in England. Of course she had been talked down to by an atrocious girl so she had taken refuge. It seemed someone else had too as Oliver, Viscount Conway entered as well. Of course neither knew the other's name but there was an undeniable instant attraction and they shared a kiss.
But Oliver was desperate and needed a heiress. When he learned from his sister that Rayne was one, he could not believe it! Plus she was going to Lord Fraiser's house party that he and his family were attending and she was taking the train. How hard could it be? Well it may not be that smooth a ride at times!
My heart melted at this wonderful romance and I loved Oliver for trying to do the right thing for his family. Take the journey with these two amazing characters that Lauren Smith has brought to life with her amazing story telling, and prepare to be enchanted...
PS I cannot wait to hear some of the other character's stories!!

Oliver, Viscount Conway, has a month to save his family’s estate before the bank forecloses, and he knows just what to do - marry an heiress. He decides to propose to his neighbour Lady Adelaide daughter of the Earl of Berwick but he finds he can’t & escapes to the library where he meets an American young woman & there’s an immediate attraction. He learns from his sister that she’s an American heiress & is spending Christmas at the same house party as the Conway family. The woman swears she won’t marry, especially a fortune hunter. Oliver must win her for his bride at any cost, even if it means compromising the lady on a train and stealing her heart.

Another lovely book from the author. This one is very much love at first sight but he’s hiding the truth & she won’t entertain a fortune hunter so things are bound to go pear shaped. The pace is very good & I read it in well under a day. The characters have plenty of depth & are very likeable. It takes a caring brother to open Oliver’s eyes as to what he should do, I do so hope Everett has his story. I also loved how they are descendants of Godric & Emily. Another page turning enthralling read
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

I received an ARC from the author, but didn’t read it immediately. Once I did, I really liked it. At the beginning, we find out that Oliver Conway is the great grandson of Godric St. Laurent and his wife Emily from Wicked Designs, the first League of Rogues book. I like that Lauren Smith keeps going back to the same families, sometimes generations apart, like she does in the British Stepbrother series (I think related to the Earl of Pembroke, although I may be getting that confused with another one). It was hard to imagine Godric and Emily as great grandparents, but it was an interesting concept.

I enjoyed the historical aspects of the book and I was happy to read the author's historical note near the end. It’s not something that needs to be read before enjoying the book but it adds a bit of context afterward. And it gives me an insight into the mind of the writer. While reading the book, I was pulled into the setting of the train—the reflections of the black and red, the steam swirling on the platform, the interior windows of the day cars, and the sleeping cars. I think Rayne’s father was a bit lax in his supervision of her, but the chemistry between her and Oliver was believable and powerful. It was clear that the two of them were bound to fall in love, even if Oliver originally thought it was a secondary motivation for potentially marrying her. It was inevitable that she would find out his intentions before he had the opportunity to explain himself to her, so that came as no surprise. The ensuing drama was also expected.

I really enjoyed this book and I recommend it. I’m also interested in reading Everette and Adelaide’s story.

You get to see Emily and Godric's great-grandson (He's from the line of descendants of Emily and Godric's third child therefore not the heir to the Essex title).

Oliver has tried his best to keep his family from ruin from the beginning you see how he’s in a tough situation and he has little options to save what little he and his family have. Therefore he needs to marry an heiress he planned on marrying their neighbor which she is a horrible person ( towards the end of the story it’s seen she’s redeemable? Hopefully with everett?)

Anyways then comes an American heiress they meet by chance in a library escaping the ton as fate has it shes his answer to his money problems and it doesn’t hurt that he already likes her even before he knew who she was.

I loved everything about this especially knowing the fact that his great grandparents are Emily and Gordic!!

Hopefully we can read more on the league of rouges descendants?

Found the historical real bits interesting although as author said a little Lee way in some dates required. Some American romanticism of real historical facts can be ignored as not pursued or central to the book.
The plot itself was pretty straightforward but told in a way it was an interesting read.
It would be good to see what happens to Oliver's siblings Everett and Sadie (named much too American and modern for Victorian England). Maybe I'm another book?

Oliver needs to marry an heiress to save his estate. He has already picked the person and although no one in his family approves of herm, he knows she is his best option. He attends a party to at last ask the lady for her hand, but starts having doubts, so he hides away in the library where he meets a young lady that peaks his interest. Even though he feels like this woman could be the one for him, he knows that he has to do...until he learns from his family that the woman he met is an heiress in her own right. Learning that she is leaving on a train for Scotland the next day, he decides to catch the train with her and start his courting.

Rayne is happy to get away from New York and to possibly find a husband that doesn't want her only for her money. When she meets Oliver again on the train, she thinks that he might be just the man for her. Their courtship quickly proceeds and Rayne is in love. But what happens when she learns that Oliver is desperately in need of money? Can he convince her that their's is a love match?

I really enjoyed Oliver and Rayne's story! I liked the idea that they were on a train for part of their courtship as that is not a normal setting for a historical romance. I loved that Rayne was not your normal society miss. She was such a free spirit and different from many of that time period. I'm going to have to read all the other books in the Miracle Express series as they appear to all have a component of being on a train!

This enjoyable Christmas tale is a well written part of this Multi-Author Christmas series. The series is called Miracle Express and each book apparently contains parts of it on a train.
This component made for an interesting scenario in Lauren Smith's contribution to the series.
Oliver and Rayne made an enlightening and interesting couple. I am currently reading Tammy Andresen's "Taming My Christmas Rogue" book #2 in this series and would like to read all ten of the Miracle Express stories.
I gave Seducing an Heiress on a Train 4.4 of 5.0 stars for story line and characterization.
I received a complimentary copy of this title from the author to read. This in no way affected my opinion of this book which I read and Reviewed voluntarily.

A whirlwind of desperation, heat and besotted love!

Loved it - Oliver and Rayne's tale is just as tantalisingly delicious as their natures are teasingly passionate and endearing.
A journey of heated encounters, desperation, an equal balance of witty and touching banter and a heartmeltingly magnetic connection that instantly draws you in and has you invested in their happy - touchingly charming, desire fuelled love - ever after!!
Not to mention contains a breadth of historical tidbits that zap you back into the Victorian era and keeps you thoroughlyfascinated and enveloped in the opinions surrounding the pair.
A perfect chance to indulge in a heartwarming tale that I'm hoping may just prove to be a great opener to a wonderful new spin off series dedicated to the (great) descendants of the wonderfully headstrong and captivating League of Rogues' Godric and Emily. As I must admit, I have already been won over by Oliver's delightful family - I will definitely be keeping an eye out for Everett and Adelaide's- which I'm hoping will be as richly tempestuous and deeply rewarding as implied - journey to a HEA.

There's just something so romantic about trains, especially steam trains and ones that you have to sleep in overnight. In this romance novella, you get all of that and more. American heiress Rayne Eggerton is very good at avoiding fortune hunters and when she meets Oliver Viscount Conway in the library at a party, she thinks that she might have finally found someone who likes her for her, rather than her money. Unfortunately, as much as Oliver does like her for herself alone, he needs money to save his families estate.
This whole story plays out as you would expect, with Rayne and Oliver falling for one another quickly as they make their way north on the train. With his being unwilling to tell her what his families circumstances really are, things are always going to come to a sticky situation, before they can finally get their happily ever after. The whole thing was done well and I really enjoyed it.
If you're looking for a wintery train ride romance tale, then this will be exactly the thing.

Good quick story. Quick being the operative word here. I like the premise of this and loved the characters. I just wish that the courting had gone on for a bit and it wasn't a two day dating spree (it was quicker than that) and then they jump in bed. Nothing really romantic about that. Smh!! I really like Smith's stories and look forward to the next book.

A nice love at first sight romance

This was a refreshing short romance. This couple have an instant attraction that becomes something deeper very quickly. I’m not sure that Oliver’s choices are the correct way to woo Rayne, but his motives are honest.

Me ha parecido una historia predecible y aburrida, además los protagonistas no me han gustado nada, este libro no tiene nada que me haya parecido especial o sorprendente, para lo corto que es me ha costado bastante terminarlo.
