How to Catch an Elusive Earl

Rate this book
He's a rake of the first order...

Miss Adrianna Moorish knows a rake when she meets one, and the Earl of Crestwood is the worst sort. Yes, he looks charming and handsome, and sure, every word is perfectly chosen to compliment, but that shiny veneer holds a lecherous heart. She'll protect her sisters from his false advances and make certain none of them fall under his spell. The only problem, who is going to protect her?

She's too smart for her own good...

Luke is a man who loves a challenge, and Adrianna is certainly that. With her sharp tongue and her quick wit, she sets herself up as his adversary from the first. Every attempt he makes to charm one of her sisters, she deftly blocks. Of course, she's beautiful, smart, and alluring beyond compare, but he doesn't allow such women into his life. His past taught him these relationships only promise pain and suffering. Still, Adrianna needs a lesson on humility, and he's happy to deliver.

All is fair and love and war. Now, he just has to decide which this is...

Very enjoyable and touching Romance that is both moving and beautiful.

Luke is so damaged by a past love and what he sees as his brothers treasonous act toward him.
Maybe his unexpected affection for a beautiful and selfless young woman can help him heal and see his errors and actions are redeemable.
Maybe he can love and be a worthy man .

So good to read, this book made me feel good and I loved all the characters, Especially the girls father , now he’s a man worth fighting for.
Such a wonderful storyline , all starting from the same point , but will they all find what they are searching for .

I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review

My review :

Will the libertine earl be tamed by the whip-smart girl ...

What a fun read this one was, I was even surprised to like it so much.
There was something in Luke and Adrianna’s story that touched me.
Adrianna as the youngest of the five Moorish girls, she sharpened the only weapon she had at her disposal, her tongue.
And forewarned of Crestwood’s profligate inclinations, she is more than eager to thwart his plan to seduce one of her sisters.
And doing so, she attracts his glance on her. Which offers her the opportunity to get to know him and see past his jaded facade.
Luke had his heart broken and since he built a wall around it. Letting bitterness wraps its claws in his soul. Until a slip of a girl with mouth as pretty as honed sends barbs his way. When he first overlooked her, soon she is the one his gaze can’t stop searching for.
Their coming closer together from there was sweet, fun, moving, sensual.
It was a fast courtship, a matter of days wooing. Even if they didn’t know it at first.
In the whirlwind of their acquaintance, both open their heart to one another, letting slip their fears and scars, and soon becoming the balm to the other’s soul.

5 stars for this lovely and lively romance.

I was granted an advance copy by the author, here is my true and unbiased opinion.

Even though she was the youngest of the Moorish daughters, she had appointed herself the protector. Little did Adrianna know, her heart may be in need of protection, the most when she finds herself attracted to the most dastardly rake ever.

The Earl of Crestwood loves a challenge and the beautiful young woman with the attitude could be his biggest challenge, yet. All he needs to do is play the game, if his heart lets him.

Tammy Andresen’s HOW TO CATCH AN ELUSIVE EARL continues her latest happily ever after romance collection where all is fair in love and war. Quick, heated and filled with some snappy dialogue, humorous moments and that guaranteed smile when you finish!

I received a complimentary ARC edition from Tammy Andresen! This is my honest and voluntary review.

Adrianna was determined to keep The Earl of Crestwood away from her sisters. She was up to the task and had honed her razor sharp tongue and could outwit him easily. She had no doubt he would try to charm one of her sisters.
The danger seemed he had charmed her a little or made her aware of him, but no, he was a rake.
Luke was almost a lost soul and had tried to live his life as shallow as possible. He'd been terribly hurt before and would not allow that to happen again. But Adrianna challenged him, she so unlike other ladies. Smart, beautiful and he wanted to kiss her.
A lovely story that was touching, bringing two hearts together who were meant to be. Tammy Andresen, with her magical pen and wonderful imagination bring another perfect addition to this series alive.

Very quick, enjoyable historical. I liked that it was an easy, well-written read and it’s all about a sharp-tongue heroine taming a disreputable rake. My only complaint was that there was no steamy consummation of their marriage. All the steamy bits fall short of actually making love. That was a bit of a let down.

However still a good story. Hero was a manwhore, became one after his first love throws him over for his titled brother. No on page sex scenes with OW. No OM drama. No cheating or abuse. HEA, but no epilogue.

What a fun, short read this was with lovable characters and a story to keep me turning pages.

Lucas Marks (Luke), Earl of Crestwood is a handsome rake who can melt the hearts of all the ladies with his compliments but he uses them as he will never relinquish his heart again. When he is invited to the Moorish home for dinner, he decides one of the daughters would be charmed by him and he will have some fun.

Adrianna Moorish is the youngest of 5 lovely sisters and she is the strongest. When she is warned about Luke's reputation by her future brother-in-law, Duke of Rathmore and he asked her to watch her sisters, not allow them to be alone with Crestwood and not to fall for his charming smile. This would be an easy assignment for her - she would never fall for a rake's insincere words, or would she?

She plans to keep him away from her sisters - he plans to woo any of the sister, except Adrianna or is she the challenge he finds enticing. The battle of words and rakish wooing are so much fun and the battle they fight with their own hearts is a humorous and romantic adventure.

I was gifted the Advanced Reader Copy of this book & all opinions are my own & have been voluntarily given.

Another winner by Tammy Andresen!!! How to Catch an Elusive Earl is book 2 in the Romancing the Rake series and I am so loving the Moorish sisters. Each sister has there own beauty and personality that you can’t help but love them. Tammy has such a unique way of writing such charming stories that are original and so likable. Oh how I enjoyed this story as it has a rake and a rogue, great banter, protection, not being able to trust, loving sisters, schemes, deception, taking pride in working hard and falling in love. Though in a series this book can be read as a standalone but I highly recommend you read book one to get the first of the sister’s, Ophelia’s story, When Only an Indecent Duke Will Do . It is definitely worth reading as is How to Catch an Elusive Earl.

How To Catch An Elusive Earl is an entertaining historical romance by Tammy Andresen. This is a quick read, perfect for those with limited reading time. Ms. Andresen has provided readers with a well-written book. Lucas wants to get out of Seabridge Gate and on to the house party he was on his way to before encountering the bridge being out. He's attending the dinner at the Moorish home to get passage from the father of the family so he can quickly make his way to his final destination...and maybe to steal a kiss from one of the daughters. Adrianna knows Lucas and his friends are rakes and plans to protect her sisters from him. How To Catch An Elusive Earl has plenty of drama, humor, spice and fabulous characters. I enjoyed this book and look forward to my next book by Tammy Andresen. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from Bookfunnel. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This was a sweet and touching story to read. It's short and light. The heroine was sharp-tongue and I love her! The rake was someone I dislike at first but as the story went on, I changed my mind.

I've read through book 5 at the time I'm writing this so I have a little context. On it's own, it's a decent read with some good banter between the hero and heroine. The pacing of the love story is a bit fast (they go very quickly from being antagonistic to "in love"), but it's still a good story.

In comparison to the rest of the series including book 5, I'd say this is my favorite one. Both the hero and heroine are more substantial to me - ie more personality, more back story. While the heroes in all these books do have a different story (ie reason they won't fall in love) the sisters for the most part seem to be cardboard cutouts with not much depth except one is the "romantic" and "mother figure" (Ophelia), one is the "strong" one (Adrianna), one is the "schemer-but-in-a-good-way" (Juliet), etc. Frankly, I felt like one of the male characters who said at one point, "Which sister are you?" because sometimes they didn't seem that much different.

Also, all the stories (and as I get further it seems to get worse) need good editing. The most glaring was Lord Crestwood - in book 1 on page 9 he's described as "dark-haired" and then on page 56 of the same book he's running his hand through "wavy blond hair."

The description says each story in the series is a stand-alone, which they are; however, you will get much more out of them (particularly as you read each one) if you read them in order.

How to Catch an Elusive Earl, Book 2 of the Romancing the Rakes series, was about Lucas "Luke" Marks, the Earl of Crestwood, a man who enjoyed a good challenge (and determined to continue his rakish ways, never allowing a woman to sway his emotions again), and Miss Adrianna Moorish, the youngest of the five daughters of the Honorable Thomas Moorish of the small village of Seabridge Gate, considered herself a good judge of character and able to discern a rake when she saw one.
Luke, after having met the two eldest Moorish sisters the previous day, was determined to have a bit of sport with at least one of the sisters before leaving on one of their father's ships in order to attend what remained of the house party he and his friends had been traveling to. Adrianna was just as determined to protect her sisters from the Earl. When he realized her intent, Lucas accepted the challenge.
(Side note: There was one very serious issue with this book: Luke was determined to get to the house party...in Haversham...and wanted to take a ship to make it by lunch the next day. However...if one looked at the map, they would notice that the town of Haversham was landlocked to the West and nowhere near the ocean...let alone close enough to travel to the house party in a matter of hours. A ship could not reach that place...ever. Another point is that, in the first book, the Duke mentioned the town of Ipswich for the house party...a place not to the West but to the North, and therefore closer to the ocean.)
Crestwood and the other Lords had been invited to dinner at the Moorish home, but only Crestwood attended. He continued with the idea that he would have some sport with the sisters, garnering a kiss (or even more liberties) from at least one of them. When Adrianna realized what he was up to, she was determined to stop him at all costs.
As Luke watched her, he began to understand that Adrianna would put a stop to any overtures he made towards her sisters, so he changed his tactics and focused on her instead. However, he soon understood that something had shifted in him and his outlook took a turn.
The following day, as he waited for the appointed time to board the ship, his attention was diverted by another of the sisters. He and the other Lords were asked to assist her with a problem, which they all agreed to. She then directed Luke towards the beach...where Adrianna was already working towards resolving the problem. The closer Luke and Adrianna got, the more Luke began to reveal parts of himself he had never shared with another person.
There was some angst, a good deal of drama, a lot of chemistry, and even passion in this story. Sadness and anger were also prevalent in this story, as were grief and heartache. In fact, the emotions ran the gamut once again, keeping the reader riveted to the story.
Another deliciously, exciting love story to add to the Keeper for the Shelves collection. Like its predecessor, this book was everything a reader of romance novels could ask or hope for.

Entertaining, witty, and romantic, How To Catch Elusive Earl had me chuckling out loud. Adrianna is the most level headed of the Moorish sisters. She was warned about the Earl of Crestwood and is determined to steer him away from her unsuspecting sisters. Adrianna sets out to trip Luke up with his own words but in the end, discovers that he is far more entertaining than she would have thought. Luke has a history that he is ashamed of and experiencing the uncomplicated lifestyle in the Moorish household makes him long for the days when he was still young and naive. After being set up by Adrianna's dramatic sister, Luke discovers that his stone-encrusted heart is slowly breaking free and that the beauty of Seabridge Gate is starting to make an impact on him. However, a voice from the past intercepts his musings, and Luke is thrown back to that dreadful day in his life. I love all the characters in this novel, from the London rakes to the Moorish family and the people of the small town. As bad as the rogues are, the Moorish family has a way of making inroads into their lives. Adrianna was able to see past Luke's facade and reach into the depths of his soul to help him face the truth, leading him to recognise the true value of a loving heart. I am so looking forward to the next book in the series, especially if it also involves the Moorish sisters. I received a copy of this fairly short but well-written novella as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Luke Marks, The Earl of Crestwood is on his way to a house party where he can loose himself in depravity. He has a hardened heart after losing his love to another man with a title years ago. (His own brother.) Now that his brother has died and he has become the Earl, he doesn't want anything to do with love. Along the way to the party, he gets stranded in a small sea village of Seabridge where he meets the Moorish family. He and his friend are invited to eat a meal with Mr. Moorish and his beautiful daughters. He decides one of them will receive his attentions just not which one. Little does he know that the one he dismissed as a slip of a girl would be the one that captures his attention. She's a little spitfire and he likes her spunk. Maybe, just maybe she'll be the one to restore his broken heart.
Adrianna Moorish may be the youngest Moorish daughter, but she's also the most level headed and cleverest. She is determined to not let her sisters be taken in by these rakes. She has decided she will thwart them at every turn. There's no way he's going to let the Earl sweet talk one of her sisters into doing anything improper. But what about herself? What improper actions will she take with a most handsome rake?
Another witty, amusing, romantic book by Tammy Andresen. This is book two in the Romancing The Rake series. I was given this book as an ARC and this is my honest and true review.

Another well written page turning read that I read in two sittings, strong characters & a well paced story drew me in from the start. I loved both Luke & Adrianna, she’s the protective youngest sister & was determined to stop her sisters falling for him & him trying to seduce them, only she didn’t guard her heart. Luke had been disappointed in love & became a rake to forget. I loved how they verbally sparred with each other whilst all the time falling in love. I found this to be a fun read but it was also very touching, I can’t wait for the rest of the series

Shouldn't no mean NO?

The scenes of the H preying upon the h are numerous and atrocious. Some seem to think they are romantic and seductive little episodes. But, picture the H as a villain in that same scenario....still makes sense doesnt it??? Cuz that's the more realistic scenario!!!

Or, imagine a guy coming on to you like that in real life. Would you appreciate all the unwanted touches in private places from a person you met the day before?? (Take note: being handsome does not forgive him of his actions)
How this trope has been misconstrued into romance I have yet to fathom, but I am beginning to see how easily men get away with sexual harassment in the "real world." Ladies...if you are trying to figure out if his actions are okay...they are definitely not okay!!! Doesn't matter if you are a virgin and "just don't know how it would feel but he can't possibly mean any harm." Yeah no, use common sense, speak up for yourself and please do not be complacent is this horrific matter of harrassment that permeates our society so viciously and subtlety.

This needs to be brought to light and spoken of because this trope in pop culture is so pervasive that girls think they should keep their mouths shut about being harrassed or worse.

This scenario might be described as something that starts with and r but it sure ain't the word romance.

How to Catch an Elusive Earl is the second book in the charming Romancing the Rake series. The book was short and fast-paced but as always, the author was able to develop wonderful characters that touched your heart. The Honorable Thomas Moorish lives in the enchanting town of Seabridge Gate with five marriageable daughters. Luke Marks, Earl of Crestwood, was on his way to a house party full of debauchery but is delayed when a storm damages a bridge. He accepts a dinner invitation to the Moorish family so he can arrange transportation. His cynical outlook of life protects his broken heart. Several years prior the love of his life dumped him for a man with a title, his own brother. After the death of his brother he still has no desire to open his heart to someone again. His only thought was to have dinner and maybe get a kiss from one of the Moorish females. Instead, he faces a challenge from Adrianna Moorish, who is determined to protect her sisters. Adrianna’s sharp tongue and wit intrigue him, but is it enough for him to risk his heart again?

What a fun and charming story. A rake and an innocent. Luke has been hurt so bad in the past that he feels he can never love another. That changes when he starts verbally sparring with Adrianna. For being eighteen, Adrianna was wise beyond her years. She was fiercely devoted to her family and vowed to protect all her four older sisters from rakes, especially Luke. I really liked how the author took 48 hours to build a lasting relationship between them. The development was so sweet to read. It was moving. One could actually empathize with Luke's past pain and how it affected his present life. Adrianna being a dynamo was empathetic and caring towards Luke. She was honest and completely sincere in her words and actions. A delight to read. I do recommend it. I wish it had an extended epilogue covering their new life, new home, if they had any children etc. Anyway I really liked it.

Second book in the series and this one is about the youngest sister among the Moorish sisters, Adrianna.
Unlike her romantic-head-in-the-clouds sister Ophelia, Adrianna is a good head on her shoulders and she is very cynical and headstrong about love and life in general.
She will need all of her wits about her when dealing with the infamous Earl of Crestwood who seems have one single goal in life. Bed as many beautiful women as he can with the thought of even settling down with just ONE is a preposterous notion he would rather never think about.

This was another light and quick read that I found nice and relaxing. Again, characters did not face any major drama which is fine because sometimes lighthearted reads are a nice break from the intense storyline from other books.

Romancing the Rake book 2

Miss Adrianna Moorish may be the youngest in her family but she has this miss guided mission in her life, that is to protect her sisters from rakes, once they go to London for a season.

Enter Lucas Marks into the village by the sea, Seabridge Gate. Lucas has been hurt by a young lady when young, so had turned into a bad rake, his mission in life is to bed as many women as possible.

These two clash from the beginning and it is a wonderful story on how they overcome what has to them been there destiny.

Loved loved this read a few laughs but life can overcome.

Highly recommended

4.25 STARS

The h is the youngest of 5 sisters and the most level headed when it comes to Rakes. At least that is what we are told in a few pages. But, she succumbs quickly to one of the Rakes visiting her town. I was disappointed because I loved the banter between the two and then it stopped. We were treated with honest dialogue with each other.

Actual act of lovemaking no, but everything else - heat level 4.25 out of 5.

No cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA, some romance and steam. (ljb)

Adrianna is the youngest of the five Moorish sisters, and thinks she is capable of saving her sisters' virtues when it comes to dashing rakes...but she's apparently more naive than she thought, because she ends up seduced herself. Regardless, Adrianna is a delightful, lovable character and I enjoyed Luke's character development as he realizes there's more to life than carousing.

Adrianna was the youngest of the Moorish girls but she was the protector of them!

Adrianna knew Earl Crestwood was a rake and she was going to keep him away from her sisters as Chase requested of her. Luke, the Earl, was only interested in a kiss or two from one of the sisters. He had no desire to get involved with any of them.

Fate has a way of intervening in best laid plans. Read the story to find out who their story revolves.

She was the youngest but the feistiest of the sisters, so she took her role as the guardian of their virtue seriously. So knocking heads with a rake, ensuring he didn't enamour himself with any of her sisters, was a job she relished.
However, the one thing she hadn't counted on was that he was broken and needed someone to help mend him. Her tender heart would not allow him to be left hurting, the way he was.

Luke is on his way to a party. But a bridge was out and now he’s met Adrianna and after a struggle she has moved into his heart and will be there forever.
It is the story of the second sister. She’s the youngest but very bright and very protective of her siblings. She decides to grab his attention before one of her sisters falls for his charm.
It’s a charming book
