BOTCHED BUTTERSCOTCH by Amanda Flower is an entertaining cozy mystery novella set in Harvest, Ohio. It is number 4.5 in the Amish Candy Shop Mystery series. This is the first book that I have read in the series and deals with a theft instead of murder.

Bailey King works in her Amish grandmother’s candy store. They have been baking for the Mother’s Day Tea which is a fundraiser for Abigail’s Farm. At the end of the tea, it turns out that the funds have been stolen and Bailey jumps in to help find the thief and recover the missing money.

This was a fun story, but it did not have time for much character development. However, I was definitely rooting for Bailey to be successful. Her goals were clear and her motivations were well-drawn. While I was able to easily determine the culprit, I still enjoyed the novella. I feel that those that are already familiar with the characters will likely be thoroughly entertained despite the lack of complexity. Themes explored were theft, fundraising for charities, family, Amish culture and much more. The book also includes a recipe for one of the desserts served during the Mother’s Day Tea.

Overall, this was a heartwarming, funny, and touching read. I definitely want to read more of this series.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Thanks to Kensington Books and Amanda Flower for an ARC of this novel via NetGalley and the opportunity to provide an honest review. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own and are not biased in any way.

In this 4.5 installment in Amanda Flower's An Amish Candy Shop Mystery series, Bailey's parents are visiting Harvest for Mother's Day and she has plans to take her mother and grandmother to a tea fundraiser for Abigail's Farm, a retreat for women recovering from addiction. During the tea, the money that was raised is stolen, and Bailey decides to find the thief.

I thought this was a fun and delightful addition to the series, and the perfect little filler story to tide readers over until the May 26th release of Marshmallow Malice. I absolutely adore this series, and it's always a pleasure to spend time in Harvest with Bailey and the gang. Amanda Flower is a very talented writer, and when you pick up one of her books, you can always expect plenty of laugh out loud moments, well-developed characters, a charming setting, and a mystery that will keep you guessing.
I highly recommend this series. As an added bonus, mouthwatering recipes are included at the end.

Botched Butterscotch by Amanda Flower is the second novella length book in the cozy Amish Candy Shop Mystery that also has five full length novels so far. Botched Butterscotch falls between books four and five of the series in chronological order but as with the other books of the series it has it’s own mystery solved within so it could also be read as a standalone if choosing to do so. For those that follow from the beginning in the series though there is character building carrying over from book to book to tie them altogether.

The main character in this series, Bailey King, had been working in New York as a chocolatier before she decided to return to Harvest, Ohio and help her Amish grandmother run their family owned candy shop, Swissmen Sweets. While Bailey is not Amish herself she does find herself fitting into the community with her Amish roots and trusted more than other outsiders. This time around instead of a murder to solve Bailey gets asked to help catch a thief that has run off with money raised for a local charity.

Following this series from the beginning I’ve really enjoyed it overall as it has just that right mix of quirky fun and mystery. I loved how the author has taken a regular American and thrust her into the Amish world giving her the means to fit into both the regular community and Amish people. And as much as I like the characters there’s also plenty of cute critters stealing the show too. Now this go around has brought in Bailey’s parents to give even more depth to her character so a definite two thumbs up to this novella addition to the series!

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

I always enjoy returning to the great village setting of Harvest, Ohio, where both Amish and Englisch live and work. There are recurring interesting, sometimes quirky characters and always a mystery to solve. This time we are visiting just for the weekend.
Bailey King left New York City where she worked as a chocolatier to help her grandmother run the family candy shop, Swissmen Sweets, after her grandfather's death. It is Mother's Day weekend and community leader, Margot Rawlings, has a special Mother's Day Tea planned at the church to raise money for a home for women with addiction problems. But someone stole the money from the event and Bailey puts on her sleuthing hat to find out who took it at the request of the home's owner.
Bailey's parents are in town for the special weekend so it is meet the parents weekend when her fiance' Deputy Aiden Brody his mom, Juliet, and her pet pig, Jethro, get to meet them. Fun times with yummy candy, wedding talks, and a mystery. Amanda Flower is a favorite Amish author for me. I always enjoy her stories.

I was more than happy to drop in for a short visit to Harvest (I'm planning a longer trip at the end of May.which i’m super excited for!!). I always enjoy time with Bailey, Maami , Jethro (my favorite pig), the rest of the gang, and of course sampling all the goodies at Swissmen Sweets! The Butterscotch peanut bars are TO DIE FOR...maybe I shouldn’t use that phrase in a town that sees its fair share of murder lol.anyway no worries the recipe for these delicious bars is included. It’s mother's day weekend and Bailey’s parents are in town to share the special day. Bailey is helping out with a women’s tea to celebrate the occasion, and fundraise for a great cause Abigail’s farm. Things are moving along splendidly, great company, food, sweets, speeches, and lots of giving! Splendidly that is until someone sticks their hand in the cookie jar...ok so actually it’s just a donation box...forgive me the bad puns lol. Without that money Abigail’s farm can no longer provide the amazing sanctuary, and services they offer to vulnerable women in their time of need. Well of course Bailey couldn’t just sit around and do nothing.and since I was already there..

My thoughts:
This book as always with this series was great!! It was just perfect to tide me over until the next book is released on May 26th...can you tell i'm looking forward to it??!? The characters, setting, and coziness of this series make it one of my favorites!! I was really glad to get the chance to meet Bailey’s parents...what a great addition.

Book 4.5 of Amanda Flowers Amish Candy Shop Mysteries. This is an eShort cozy mystery that takes place on Mother's day weekend. I thought this was a fitting time to read this mystery since Mother's Day is just two weeks away. I enjoy reading Amanda's cozy mysteries and enjoy the humor she adds to the story. I liked that no one had to die in this eShort. When a large amount of cash is stolen from a collection box that was intended to be donated to a local charity Bailey King helps Deputy Little solve his first case. Who could have emptied the cash box in a room full of people and left without anyone noticing what was happening?
I recommend this eShort to readers of Cozy Mysteries and fans of Amanda Flower. If you have been reading the Amish Candy Mystery series , Botched Butterscotch is between Toxic Toffee and Marshmallow Malice.

This was an entertaining novella in the Amish Candy Shop series. Bailey's parents decide to visit their hometown of Harvest for Mother's Day. She is excited that her mom will be joining her, her detective boyfriend mother's Juliet and the community for a fundraiser at the church fellowship hall. The money raised benefits a long-term women's residential drug rehabilitation facility, set on farmland of a English woman whose daughter died of a drug overdose. But before the event is over, all the funds raised are stolen. Bailey is determined to find the culprit and help save the farm from ruin.

With the story being so short, I focused on every person and situation being a possible connection to the theft. The story moved at a good pace and kept my attention throughout. This is a standalone mystery so no worries if you were like me and happened to read the next book in the series, Marshmallow Malice, before this. The plot twist were good with the time allotted. I wished that I would have learned more about Bailey's parents.

Thanks to NetGalley and Kensington for an ARC of this book. My review is voluntary.

This was a such a fun little fill-in while waiting for the next regular size book! I always enjoy reading about little Jethro the pig, he's pretty awesome! Juliet cracks me up hauling him everywhere, but even Bailey has warmed up to him a lot since she first met him. Bailey's parents were in town for Mother's Day, and this case being a shorter one involved the theft of some charity money.

I'd guessed the person right who stole it and sort of the reason, but it was interesting to see Bailey sleuth it out while "helping" Deputy Little who was nervous about handling a case solo. Aiden was otherwise occupied with other police matters. This book was funny, a little bit tear-jerking and very heartwarming! I'm anxious for the next regular book coming out soon.

This Amish series book was short one. It was May Mother's Day. Bailey's parents came to visit her and her grandma Clara. I'm Amish County Ohio. Margot had a shindig set up ( like always) and she wanted Bailey to bake things for. Polly Anne farm dedicated to her daughter Abigal to raise money for the farm to stay open for women could have a refuge for recovering addicts. This short book did not have a murder like most of them did but it was great

Botched Butterscoth by Amanda Flower is the 4.5th novella in the Amish Candy Shop Mystery series, and another great story. I really love this series, and am looking forward to the next book in the series, Marshmallow Malice. Bailey King left her job as a New York chocolatier to return to Harvest, OH to help run Swissman Sweets, a candy shop her Amish grandmother owns. It is Mother's Day, and Bailey parents are in town for the event. The Mother's Day tea is a special fund raiser for a local women's group. When the money, cash, is stolen, Bailey is determined to find the truth. I love the quirky people and situations in this book, especially Aiden mother and her pig. I found this book to be a quick read, with plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing. If you love cozy mysteries, I strongly recommend this book/ series.

Dollycas’s Thoughts

Need to feed your cozy craving. A brief visit to Harvest is the perfect way to do just that. Especially when there is Butterscotch Fudge involved.

A rare visit from Bailey’s parents happens just in time for Mother’s Day and a Mother’s Day tea fundraiser at a local church. Aiden’s mother Juliet has her own plan for the weekend . . . Aiden and Bailey’s wedding. Remember they are not even engaged yet, but Juliet is like a steamroller when she sets her mind on something and she is sure Bailey’s mom will agree it is time the couple takes the big step.

When the money raised at the Mother’s Day tea goes missing, the leader of the local women’s support group, Polly Anne Lind is frantic, without that money she may have to close. Bailey offers to help the young police officer with the case even though her parents beg her to leave the crime to the proper authorities. Not going to happen, she already has suspects she wants to talk to.

____________

This is a clever and entertaining story that allows readers a short visit with our favorite Amish Candy Shop characters. Having Bailey’s parents visit was an extra treat. Silas King has rarely visited since he left the Amish life behind. It is also the first time they are meeting Deputy Aiden Brody, his mother, and her pet pig, Jethro. The meeting is PRICELESS!

Amanda Flower is such a talented writer, long story, or short, she absolutely excels. Well developed characters, intriguing mysteries, and delicious treats to tempt our taste buds. Botched Butterscotch is charming little cozy that will hold readers over until Marshmallow Malice hits store shelves May 26, 2020.

A Perfect Mini-Escape!

A short story to remind us of all the characters we love in the Amish community of Harvest. Bailey's parents make a Mother's Day visit and Bailey thinks her biggest concern is her Mom and Aiden's mom plotting to plan a wedding for the couple who are not even engaged. However an occurrence at a fund raising tea ends up being Bailey's biggest concern.

This quick look into An Amish Candy Shop Mystery series (book 4.5) is a good way to get everyone excited for book 5, Marshmallow Malice, which will be out soon. Thanks to Kensington Books and NetGalley for an ARC. The opinions expressed are my own.

Botched Butterscotch(a novella) is book 4.5 in the Amish Candy Shop Mystery series.

Mother’s Day is almost here and Bailey finds herself quite busy. She has been busy preparing treats for a Mother’s Day Tea, to be held at the church across the green from Swissmen Sweets. Bailey’s parents are making a rare visit to Harvest, too. Bailey’s father, Silas, left the Amish faith some thirty years ago.

The Mother’s Day Tea is being held to raise funds for Abigail's Farm, a half-way house for women recovering from addiction issues. The tea is proving to be a big success and the time has come for Polly Anne to speak on what the farm is about and to thank everyone for coming and their donations. Once Polly Anne was done with her talk and presentation of the money was going to be made it is found that the box containing the money is empty. Someone has stolen about $10,000.

Bailey is surprised when Deputy Little arrives to investigate the theft. She was hoping that Deputy Sheriff Aiden Brody, her boyfriend, would be arriving. Deputy Little is new to the department and Bailey is concerned that he may not be experienced enough to handle the investigation. Bailey has helped with several cases and plans to give Little some guidance and do a little sleuthing on her own.

A wonderful addition to his delectable series.

An Amish Candy Mystery #4.5

Mother's Day is busy for candy shop owners Bailey and her Amish grandmother in Harvest, Ohio. And this year is busier than ever with Bailey's parents coming in for the weekend as well as catering a Mother's Day Tea.

The Mother's Day Tea is a benefit for Abigal's Farm. A place for women recovering from addiction. Not everyone is on board for having "that type of place" near their homes. The money made will allow their work to continue so when the box of donations disappears during the tea, Bailey is there to "assist" the new Deputy with his first case.

All the while Aiden's mom, Julia and Bailey's own mom are planning their wedding and they aren't even engaged!

I love this short book. It's like a phone conversation with friends, just a quick catch up and I'm happy. I think Amanda may be the only person I've ever read that can successfully blend the Amish and Comedy!

I loved this one!

Botched Butterscotch by Amanda Flower has Bailey King expecting her parents for Mother’s Day weekend. Bailey has been busy preparing treats for the Mother’s Day Tea at the church that is supporting Abigail’s Farm, a place for women to recover from addiction. While everyone is enjoying the tea and butterscotch bars, a sticky-fingered thief makes off with the contents of the donation box (over $10,000). Detective Little is going solo and Bailey promises to help him nab the crook and recover the cash. Botched Butterscotch is An Amish Candy Shop Mystery Novella (No. 4.5). It can be read on its own (but why would you want to miss any of the books in this entertaining cozy mystery series). I sat down and quickly devoured this humorous story. I love the cast of characters that Amanda Flower has created for this series from Bailey King to Jethro, the polka-dotted pig. The descriptions of the sweet treats from Swissmen’s Sweets will have you craving something yummy (recipe at the end of book). There are delightful laugh-out-loud moments especially with Juliet Brody and her pet pig, Jethro. Juliet is determined her son, Aidan will wed Bailey very soon (they are dating, but no imminent proposal). The setting of Harvest, Ohio is bucolic. I like that it is a combination Amish and English area. The mystery suits the story and I enjoyed following Bailey as she solved the crime while giving Deputy Little credit. Botched Butterscotch is an amusing tale that will tide me over until Marshmallow Malice comes out. Botched Butterscotch is a delightful cozy mystery with precocious pigs, batches of butterscotch bars, a matchmaking mama, purloined philanthropy and Mother’s Day mayhem.

WHAT A BEATH OF FRESH AIR. I (FAN GIRL SQUEAL) ****LOVE**** THIS SERIES SO MUCH!!!

Premise: Bailey helps out at a fun-raiser for someone's farm in the area - before the fund-raiser ends all of the money is missing! So Bailey needs to work out who stole the money and why!

COZY SIDE: Ahhhh! Is there anything at all like the 'cozy side' of this series? To rate on it's own (just the cozy side) an overwhelming 5 Stars!

MYSTERY SIDE: Set-up was great! And I love Bailey as an amateur sleuth. However, the reveal let me down.

4 Stars!

This was a short entry in the Amish Candy Shop series about money stolen at a fundraiser. The money is supposed to be for a home of women addicts, who are in recovery. The solution once again comes with the help of Bailey's sleuthing. The motive for the crime makes it somewhat understandable and the resolution is heartwarming. Very enjoyable.

This was a short "in between" story, only 77 pages on my Kindle. It's Mother's Day weekend and Bailey's parents are coming to Harvest, OH. She is excited to take her mother to a Mother's Day tea, and the ticket sales will help a women's group. Or, would have, if over $10,000 was not stolen from them. In this book, Bailey and Detective Little work to find out who the thief was.

This was a great short story. Bailey and her sleuthing skills never cease to amaze me, even when a murder is not involved.

Bailey's parents are in Harvest and learn about her involvement in previous investigations and are none too thrilled; there seems to be a spark between Charlotte and Deputy Little, and Juliet is dragging Bailey's mom into planning Bailey and Aiden's "wedding".

Review:

Any time that I get to spend with Bailey and her family and friends is time well spent. I really enjoy how well they all get along and how close they are. And getting to meet Bailey’s parents was just an added bonus. I am afraid that her parents and Aiden's mom are going to be making plans for a wedding before Bailey and Aiden even get engaged.

The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and these descriptions pulled me into the story from the very beginning. I felt like I was right there, watching all the action taking place. And although there was no dead body (which was a nice change), there was still the mystery of who stole the money. There were a few people who could have been the culprit, and I enjoyed trying to figure it out.

I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a well crafted novella. You cannot go wrong reading anything by this author.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book provided by the publisher, Kensington Books, and NetGalley, which I greatly appreciate.

Botched Butterscotch is the 4.5 installment in Amanda Flower’s An Amish Candy Shop Mystery series. This is an easy to read confectionery cozy set in the Ohio Amish country, with great characters and an interesting and entertaining mystery. The story flows smoothly, and the author is very talented in her descriptive and witty writing. There’s no murder in this novella, but the mystery was difficult to solve. I was surprised when the culprit was revealed.

Bailey King gave up her job as an assistant chocolatier at JP Chocolates in New York City to move to Harvest, Ohio to help her Amish grandmother after her grandfather passed away. Bailey isn’t Amish, but her father, who left the Amish community before she was born, was. As a child, Bailey spent her summers with her grandparents, Jebediah and Clara King, and learned to love chocolates in their Amish candy shop, Swissmen Sweets. Juliet Brody, whose comfort pet is a small black and white polka-dotted potbellied pig named Jethro, is convinced her son, Sheriff Deputy Aiden Brody, and Bailey will marry. Bailey will be helping with the tea and is anticipating the arrival of her parents, Susan and Silas King, who seldom visit Ohio. Margot Rawling, the town’s super organizer who has marketing down to a science, is currently promoting a non-Amish Mother’s Day Tea that will benefit Abigail’s Farm, which is a retreat for women who are struggling with drug or alcohol addiction operated by Polly Anne Lind. Over ten thousand dollars was raised, but at some point during the tea, someone stole the money. With all the other deputies investigating other cases, Aiden assigns Deputy Little to the theft. Since she’s been successful in solving mysteries in the past, Bailey offers the deputy her help finding the thief and hopefully recovering the missing money.

I didn't realize when I requested this book that it was not a full-length mystery, but that does not distract from the excellent writing (as always) from Ms. Flower. If you are a fan of this series (and you really should be) you will be pleased to see all of the regulars back, as well as meeting Bailey's parents. The crime in this book is not murder, but theft. Monetary donations are stolen at a women's tea and Bailey begins to investigate, much to the surprise of her mother who knows nothing about her involvement in the investigation of previous crimes in the community. The book is quick, but again, as enjoyable as always. It whets our appetite for the next book, Marshmallow Malice, coming in May of 2020. Only knocked off a star because I always want MORE! I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley.

No murders in this novella, but there is a mystery for Bailey to solve! Preparing for a Mother's Day tea Bailey hears the main speaker arguing with someone she can't see. When the money raised from the tea disappears Bailey is on hand to poke around and find out who stole it.

I love the Amish Candy Shop Mystery series! And the novella's between novels are pretty cute. Especially when Juliette's pig Jethro makes an appearance. Bailey is a Nosy Nellie, but she usually finds the culprit in the mysteries she sets out to solve. I like her curiosity and her determination to help right the wrongs done to people. I'm quite a fan of the recipes at the end of each book! Check it out...Butterscotch Peanut Bars. I'm definitely going to have to try these out!

Thank you NetGalley for an ARC of this book. All opinions are my own.

The Amish Candy Shop Mystery is one of my very favorite cozy series to read. Enough so, that I even keep up with these short novellas between each book. They offer the perfect quick visit with the character’s of Harvest, Ohio to keep me tied over until a longer story is released.

Bailey and her Maami are lending some of their scrumptious treats to help a good cause. Abigail’s Farm is a safe place where women who are recovering from addiction can ease back into society at their own pace. The founder is excited not only because the farm is in memory of her daughter, but the fundraiser she has brought everyone together for is quite a success. That is until all of the money raised suddenly goes missing.

Perfect timing for this story since it takes place around Mother’s Day. I enjoyed meeting Bailey’s parents and equally rolled my eyes every time Juliet hinted at their two families being joined by marriage in the very near future. I was funny to see her mom shocked by her involvement as an amateur sleuth and slightly appalled by my favorite pig, Jethro.

I loved the idea of the farm and hope to see it play a bigger role in future books.

The story includes a recipe for Butterscotch Peanut Bars and an excerpt from book five, Marshmallow Malice.
