The Power of the Decree: Releasing the Authority of God's Word through Declaration

Rate this book
The spiritual exercise of making decrees finds its precedent in both Old and New Testaments--the practice means simply quoting God's promises back to him, "reminding" him of what he has said. This kind of prayer is one of the most vital forms of intercession. In fact, the practice of decreeing God's Word not only builds our faith but transforms our lives.

In this powerful and enlightening book, bestselling author and entrepreneur Patricia King helps readers grasp the power of inspired and finely tuned prayer. King explains how to
· find specific texts of Scripture for your need
· counter problems with God's Word
· speak truth into reality
· understand the difference between confessing the Word, proclaiming the Word, and decreeing the Word
· and more

Join countless believers who love the Word of God and honor its authority through their prayers. Accept the challenge to pray the words of Scripture boldly--in God's timing, for his will and purposes.

"Whatever you focus on, you empower. If you focus on the devil's lies and your frailties, you will empower them, so do not do that. Instead, focus on the truth. Decreeing the Word every day will empower Christ's nature in you! The Word will define you and set you free." (Patricia King, The Power of the Decree)

Anyone who has studied the author's books, Patricia King, knows that she is an avid teacher on the power of decrees. This is my second book I have read by her on the topic. In this book, she teaches how when you decree a thing it will be established for you and light will shine on your ways. This is totally Biblical! () There are decrees in this book on your life, your business, your ministry, and your world!

We would do well to remember that God framed the worlds with His Word. He spoke the word, "let there be light" and light came to be. This was in a world that was dull, void and full of darkness. Just think what the Word of God could do in your life. God has given you permission to make decrees from your mouth! What a great power and privilege that God has given us!

This book has some of the best decrees I have ever seen written and declared. Each chapter ends with a powerful decree to make, and the Scripture references follow. All decrees are adapted from God's Holy Word!

The chapters that spoke the most to me personally were knowing and making decrees concerning God's love for me, and the second chapter that spoke the most to me was on the blessing of God.
She teaches that you are not waiting to get blessed, you are already blessed! And once you know this truth, you will start attracting all spiritual blessings under heaven that have been given to you! ()

The author's decree on Blessing:

"Decree
Blessing

I am created for blessing. As a result, I am fruitful in every good thing, and I multiply and increase in blessing. Because God has blessed me, no curse can touch me. In the name of Jesus Christ and by the power of His blood, I decree His covenant of blessing around my life and all that pertains to me.
Nothing but blessing is permitted to come into my life or sphere of influence. If the enemy attempts to attack me, he will be caught in the act and pay sevenfold what he stole, and then I will plunder his house, for I only accept blessing. His attempts create testimonies of God's increased blessings in my life.
Like Abraham, I am blessed and am called to be a blessing. Through my life in Jesus, nations are blessed.
Blessings come upon me and overtake me. Blessings are attracted to me. I am blessing magnet. I am blessed coming in and blessed going out. I am blessed in the city and blessed in the field. The heavens are open over my life and the rain of God's abundant goodness falls on my life, and all that pertains to me. No good thing has He withheld from me. I am blessed in everything I put my hands to.
My household is blessed. My food is blessed. My clothing is blessed. My vehicles are blessed. My business and matters of business is blessed. My children, family and all who labor with me and for me are blessed. My finances are blessed because Jesus established an eternal, unbreakable covenant of blessing for me.

I am blessed with the Kingdom of heaven and its bounty because I recognize my need of God in all things and at all times. I am blessed with a satisfied heart because I hunger and thirst for righteousness. I am blessed with mercy because I show mercy to others. I am blessed with insights and visitations from God because I am pure in spirit.

I am called a son/daughter of God because I am a peacemaker. When I am persecuted for the sake of righteousness or when people insult me and speak lies about me, I am blessed with heavenly and eternal reward. I am blessed because I hear the Lord's Word and act on it. I am a doer of the Word and not a hearer only.

Because I love wisdom and righteousness, I am blessed and my dwelling is blessed. The blessing of the Lord has made me rich, and He adds no sorrow to it. Because I trust in the Lord, I am blessed. I am blessed with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ. Grace and peace are multiplied unto me in the knowledge of Christ.

I have been granted everything that pertains to life and to godliness. I have been given all the magnificent promises in the Word of God. I sow blessings bountifully, and therefore I reap blessings bountifully. I always look for ways I can bless others. I am truly blessed in all things, for my Father in heaven has chosen gladly to give me the Kingdom.

My God blesses me continuously and causes His face to shine upon me. He is gracious unto me and grants me peace."

[Note: This book was provided free of charge by Chosen Books in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.]

Whether or not it is a good thing to be fascinated by the subject, I must admit that I greatly enjoy reading books about the way that Charismatics view the spirit. The focus that people spend on certain elements tends to lead quite naturally to a specialized linguistic terminology about them. Whether or not one agrees with them (and this book tends to assume that one is talking to people who agree), there are a wide variety of ways that Charismatic believers tend to view the word as having a sort of magical power. Admittedly, this view has a significant amount of biblical warrant and is not something that many people tend to pay attention to. At any rate, books like this tend to help encourage a healthy respect of the power of the word and that is something that I feel it necessary to cultivate in a world where words are used so carelessly and thoughtlessly as to present a major burden to the lives of many people.

This book is a relatively short one at less than 200 pages. It begins with a foreword and then contains three chapters that discuss the power of the decree, the titular subject of the book (I), with chapters on the settlement of issues through decrees (1), the distinction between confessions, proclamations, and decrees as far as words go (2), and then the question of how one goes about preparing a decree (3). The remaining fifteen chapters of the book then discuss devotions and decrees as they relate to various aspects of life. These include worship and adoration (4), love (5), our identity with Christ (6), blessings (7), favor (8), victory (9), wisdom (10), provision (11), godly character (12), health and healing (13), spiritual strength (14), relationships with family and children (15), empowerment with Christ's anointing (16), business, workplace, and ministry concerns (17), and dealing with national matters (18). Each of the chapters includes a great many examples of others who have used decrees and gotten benefit thereby, includes a decree at the end, and frequently a lot of intriguing commentary on what is being discussed in the chapter. For example, the author has a lot to say about the failure of many Christian leaders to lead with integrity, thus bringing shame upon Christianity as a whole.

It is important to understand what the author means by decree. A helpful way of remembering it is not that it contradicts what is by saying that is not true--denying one owes debts, for example, but it says what is not (yet) as if it were as being a promise from God. The decrees this book is full of are affirmations of divine blessings, naming and claiming it, and not in a way that is without nuance. For example, when the author talks about decreeing the blessing of health, it is not done without an awareness that God sometimes does not heal believers in this life, and so it is an affirmation of the ultimate and eternal reality where there is no sickness. This is a surprisingly nuanced view of the subject and one which I can readily respect. The sort of blessings this book wants its readers to proclaim are ultimately dependent on the will of God but often reflect God's ultimate will, whether or not they are to be found in this life and in this time. That is something worth considering and paying attention to in a world where people decree thoughtlessly but not according to God's will.

In the Power of the Decree, Patricia King has written a book about how to speak out and decree scriptures over our lives. She shared how she came to know Christ and also how Dr. Oral Roberts influenced her life by teaching her about how when God’s word declared something and how we need to believe it. In the book, she revealed how she taught her son to declare the word of God when he was in the second grade. He was struggling in school and he was calling himself stupid. She recorded a night tape and it covered topics on Jesus is His strength, he is God’s child, he has Godly wisdom, highly favored, and much more. It was a full hour and they played it over their son every night. Eventually, it started to expel the darkness and the lies. She teaches readers how to separate the facts and the promises that we can decree over our lives. She shared how to decree out loud the promises found in scriptures and how we need to speak life giving words. The book is divided into two parts: the first explained what a decree is and the second is written in the style of devotions. Some of the topics included, “identified with Christ, blessing, favor, victory, wisdom, health and healing, family and children, business, workplace, ministry, and much more. Each chapter enclosed questions to ponder and a decree to say out loud. She also included success stories in the book.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is ready to take back their lives from satan schemes and they are ready to speak the word of God out loud. I liked how many different topics she discussed and it contained many scriptures. I immensely like how she shared who our identity is in Christ and the power that can be obtained when we realize who we truly are. I liked how she discussed favor and how we can be free from rejection when we decree the words of Christ. She shared a story about how a boy was rejected at school and experienced bullying and how he was suicidal at a young age. She recommended that the parents decree over their son and to use visual photos of him being happy all over the house and post positive lifegiving words and eventually he was able to make friends and his life was changed greatly. Rejection lost its sting and the power of God’s word helped to declare and decree favor. This book is a book that is meant to be reread when readers are experiencing with certain issues we should be declaring and decreeing the word of God over our lives each and every day.

I really am trying to read these types of book and look for the gold, but my mind and heart has just changed so much that I am finding it difficult. I requested to review this book just as my heart was turning back toward the Gospel and I questioned whether I should review this book, but I figured it’s about the Word, how could this be bad?

Some of the ways the author uses scripture just seems really off to me. For example Isaiah 61:1-3 is about Jesus, not me, but the author used that as a decree for herself. To be honest, I did that at one point as well and now I see the error.

At another point the author talks about how we can “attract more sickness. That sounds a bit New Age-y to me. Interesting enough the author came out of the New Age into being a Christian but some of the things she believes seem like New Age type beliefs.

I do believe in the power of scripture and I do believe it is important to know the Word of God but we must be careful how we are using the Word. Is it to get to know Jesus more or to get what we want? It should be all about Jesus.

When the author talks about receiving and delivering a decree she says the reason it may not happen is because of our lack of faith or a failure to believe. I used to swallow this and then would be so angry at God because I knew I was believing for healing and He didn’t do it. This led me down a very unhappy path but I am happy to say I no longer feel angry because I no longer feel entitled to anything. I am just grateful for the cross.

A copy of this book was given to me. All opinions are my own.

A powerful tool for believers. If you want to see atmospheres change, Kingdom values increase, and believers partnering with God's plans and purposes to see them accomplished, this book is a great training manual. Teaching us how to use the Word of God to declare and decree Godly truth into circumstances that have been less than Godly, this book contains decrees for all areas of life and society, together with many encouraging testimonies from people who have put the power and authority of decrees to the test, and experienced the difference they make. Speaking out in agreement with Godly truth makes a difference. Try it and see for yourself!
