And with The Map of Consciousness, we can truly understand the total spectrum of human emotions and consciousness.Using a unique muscle-testing method, Dr. David R. This range of values-along with a logarithmic scale of 1 to 1,000-became the Map of Consciousness, which Dr. David R. Hawkins first wrote about in his best-selling book, Power vs. Force. With the Map, Dr. David R. Hawkins laid out the entire spectrum of consciousness, from the lower levels of Shame, Guilt, Apathy, Fear, Anger, and Pride; to Courage, Acceptance, and Reason; all the way up to the more expanded levels of Love, Ecstasy, Peace, and Enlightenment. Dr. Hawkins entered the field of medicine to alleviate human pain and distress, and his work as a physician was pioneering. As Medical Director of the North Nassau Mental Health Center (19561980) and Director of Research at Brunswick Hospital (19681979) on Long Island, his clinic was the largest practice in the United States, including a suite of twenty–five offices, two thousand outpatients, and several research laboratories. Many awards followed, such as The Huxley Award for the "Inestimable Contribution to the Alleviation of Human Suffering," Physicians Recognition Award by the American Medical Association, 50–Year Distinguished Life Fellow by the American Psychiatric Association, the Orthomolecular Medicine Hall of Fame, and a nomination for the prestigious Templeton Prize that honors progress in Science and Religion. In 1995, in a ceremony officiated by the H.H. Prince Valdemar of Schaumburg–Lippe at the San Anselmo Theological Seminary, he became a knight of the Sovereign Order of the Hospitaliers of St. John of Jerusalem (founded in 1077) in recognition of his contributions to humanity.

I’m not going to review this book. I will simply allow the authors words to reverberate in your consciousness. Quick note: All this will not mean much to you unless you know what is ‘consciousness calibration. You can type it into Google or YouTube to find out!

Under 40 characteristics of integrous teachers and teachings [Basically, how to authenticate a true teacher or true teaching]:

1 Universality. Truth is true at all times and places, independent of culture, personalities, or circumstances.
3. Availability It is open to all nonexclusive. There are no secrets to be revealed, hidden or sold, and no magical formulas or “mysteries.
8. No requirements or demands: There are no required memberships, dues regulations, oaths, rules, or conditions.

Some quotes from later in the book:

“At this time in human history, not a single guidepost can be relied upon other than the kinesiologic test of the actual calibration of the level of consciousness of a teacher, organisation, or teaching. The naïve are impressed by outward piety and claims of supernatural powers, paranormal feats, fanciful titles and special “spiritual garments. Serious spiritual students are encouraged to verify each teacher or teaching according to the calibrated list of “characteristics of integrous teachers and teachings in Chapter 8

Under ‘Limitations of consciousness calibration:

“Approximately 10 percent of the population is not able to use the kinesiologic testing technique for as-yet unknown reasons. The test is accurate only if the test subjects themselves calibrate over 200 and the intension of the use of the test is integrous and also calibrates over 200

Under ‘Disqualification:
“Both scepticism (cal. 160) and cynicism calibrate below 200 because they reflect negative prejudgment. In contrast, true enquiry requires an open mind and honesty devoid of intellectual vanity. Negative studies of behavioural kinesiology all calibrate below 200 (usually at 160), as do the investigators themselves […] That even famous professors can and do calibrate below 200 may seem surprising to the average person […] The failure of investigators who themselves, or by faulty research design, calibrate below 200 confirms the truth of the very methodology they claim to disprove. They “should get negative results, so they do which, paradoxically, proves the accuracy of the test…

Genius.

Let Go and Let God

My journey with this book has been one of calm, tranquility and serenity. It is so relieving to realize that the world is perfect as it is. The dissolution of the personal will and the emergence of spiritual will, or rather to be more precise, the revelation of the spiritual will brings to mind an extreme state of peace, love, confidence in the Divine and absolute humility that all the good that one does is not actually done by one's self but rather by God.

Must read for the Keepers of truth

Those that are ready will find this book invaluable. Others will dismiss it outright. I hope you're the lover of truth. The teacher will appear when you're ready. In search of more light, always. So be it.

Excerpts from Power Vs Force, Devotional Nonduality, the talks and lectures, and helpful lists from the other books, combined with helpful clarifying reminders from Doc’s work.

In many ways it is the ideal introduction to Hawkins work.

Overall, a yin feminine path of surrender, beingness, introspection, inner responsibility for the projections of the world, kindness, humor, gratitude, caution, and overall conservative spirituality.

Would not recommend. To me, a very bizarre concept with little, if any, scientific support.

A lot of people in the reviews were complaining that it isn't scientifically backed, but I'd recommend forgetting about that for a second and reading this book with an open mind. It'll surprise you, and if you experiment with what the book says for yourself, then you'll notice that it doesn't need to be scientifically backed to be true.

Great book. Soo good. It'll constantly come back to it. It's one of those books I can't and don't want to rate.

It's also written in language that is easy to understand, but that doesn't make it a fast or an easy read. Most of the stuff can completely go over your head the first time, but if you just take the time to re-read a paragraph or a sentence, it makes more sense (or at least in my case lol).

I'd recommend reading this book before any of David Hawkins' other books. I wish I had read this before Letting Go.

SUMMARY/ EVALUATION:
SELECTED:
I had been searching the library on a theme of “raising consciousness when I encountered this title. It promised to expand my horizons.
ABOUT:
Hawkins discusses energy levels, asserting that our own level attracts what vibrates at that level to us. If I understood it correctly, our experiences of love and joy come to us by virtue of the energy we produce through our thoughts. He says that when we appreciate something like the voice of Andre Bocelli it’s less of a personal affection and more of an experience and appreciation of, and delight in, an energy level. The more time someone spends in an attitude of unconditional love and gratitude, the higher the energy they emanate as well as attract. This scale of energy used to map the consciousness goes from 0 to 1,000 and each emotion vibrates at a certain level. Shame, for example, vibrates at 20; love at 500.
OVERALL OPINION:
This was interesting, and, though unique, not too different from things I’ve read before. It was a nice reminder.

EXCERPT (the audiobook is a class setting with an audience. The digital print book was produced post-houmous by his wife, Susan Hawkins, and is descriptive. The excerpt is from the digital book.
From Part I “Foundations
In the first three chapters, Dr. Hawkins gives the background, science, and main components of the Map of Conciousness. Two of the key concepts you will encounter are attractor field and field of dominance. Here is a story from his clinical years as a psychiatrist that illustrates these concepts by showing that the attractor field of Love is more powerful (dominant) than that of Fear:
Betty was 34 years old, but she looked much older because she was thin and drawn. She entered the office carrying armloads of paper bags, which were later found to contain 56 different bottles of health store preparations, vitamins, and nutritional supplements, plus several bags of special food. Her fear had started out as a germ phobia, and soon everything around her seemed to be possibly contaminated with germs. She had many fears of contracting contagious diseases, which had progressed now to a fear of cancer. She believed every scare story she read, so she was afraid of nearly every food, the air she breathed, and getting on her skin. She wore white clothes because she was afraid of dyes in the materials.
In the office, she would never sit down because she was afraid that the chair might be contaminated. Whenever she needed a prescription, she asked that it be written in the middle of the prescription pad, which had not been touched. Furthermore, she wanted to tear the page from the pad herself; she didn’t want me to touch it, because possibly I had gotten germs from shaking hands with the last patient. She wore white gloves at all times. Ultimately, she requested to be treated by telephone, as she was too afraid of making the trip to the office again.
The following week on the phone, she said that she was afraid to get up. She called from home while still in bed, because now she was afraid to go out on the streets. She had developed a fear of muggers, rapists, and air pollution. At the same time, she was afraid to stay home in bed and get worse, and to compound all her other fears, she was afraid that she was losing her mind. She was afraid that the medication wouldn’t help her and that it might have side effects, but she was loath not to take it for fear that she would not get better. Now she said that she had a fear that she might choke on the pills and had stopped taking even her health supplements, much less the prescribed medication.
Her fears were so paralyzing that every therapeutic maneuver was totally stymied. She wouldn’t allow me to talk to her family. She was afraid they would find out that she was seeing a psychiatrist and think she was crazy. I was totally baffled and racked my brain for weeks as to how I could possibly help her. Finally, I let go. I experienced the relief of surrender in that I just totally accepted the fact: There is absolutely nothing I can do to help her. The only thing left to do is just to love her.
And so, that’s what I did. I just thought of her lovingly, and frequently I sent her loving thoughts. I gave her as much love as I could possibly give when we talked on the telephone, and finally, after a couple of months of “loving therapy, she got sufficiently better to come to the office. As time went on, she improved and her fears and inhibitions began to diminish, though she never did develop any insight. She was too afraid of talking about psychological matters, she said—so over the months and eventually years of treatment, the only thing I ever did was to love her.
This case illustrates the concept that a higher vibration such as Love has a healing effect on a lower vibration—in the patient’s case, Fear. This Love is the mechanism of reassurance, and very often we can quiet another person’s fears by our mere physical presence and by the loving energy that we project to them and with which we surround them. It is not what we say but the very fact of our presence that has the healing effect.

What is reality to unity?
Unity, what is separate individuals?

Those are expressions of unity such express is what is rain what is raindrops but what is unity with no raindrops so there is no separation of rain. Evolution is creation. Nothing is causing anything.

So going from logical, sensible thinker insane then going to be very bizarre to a Mystic.

Sounds bad on essentials, not on perception if this and that always is causation.

Unity

** Thoughts

It’s out of my book 📕 I try to pick out a couple sentences per hour I wished for but when I actually got time was 15 minutes if I got time for entirely of the book to write ✍️ something down beside this it was just listening to it for my day at work. A couple sentences is a topic and having a topic is.

Essentially a good 😊 thing to have a few verses on hand in life

A lot of wisdom and quite a bit of confusion. I find the map neat, and vaguely accurate, but over simplified and lacking in nuance.

Hawkins talks about spiritual development, emotional development, intellectual development and more as if they are one thing and all move in harmony. I find other developmental theories that look at lines of development separately far more accurate and useful.

History is full of enlightened masters who were still racist and sexist or addicted to alcohol. Spiritual attainment is no panacea. It does not automatically transcend the culture it comes from or heal the shadow elements of an individual.

Piaget, Kohlberg, Wilber, Graves, Kegan, Cook-Greuter, Fowler, Maslow.....and many more take this map and explore parts of it in ways that holds up to scrutiny. If you want to know how they all fit together Ken Wilber is my favorite 'map maker'.

I had a little to love in this book, and a lot to hate. And I’m really hesitant to give a detailed review as I feel even that is a waste of time.

I loved certain insights such as that “reality is not the reality on which I may dwell further on, and similar, more general thoughts.

But boy, did I absolutely f****g hate how author tries to explain completely irrational processes with rational, logical means. He disapproves the very means he teaches his knowledge with, and than uses it to justify the knowledge. And he does it on and on!

I think this guy was onto something, but in general it’s a total mess of a book.

I’d prefer if I hadn’t read it, but it’s OK to have gotten some insights from it.

Did not finish.

The ideas feel like they should shake out but the language is flowery and strange. I’m accustomed to reading academic papers and this purports to be somewhat objective. I actually agree with a lot of the ideas in this book I just wish they weren’t trying to claim scientific credibility. (See other reviewers for meta analyses that have debunked claims that Applied Kinesiology helps with overall health)

From the very first chapter, this book is overflowing with quackery and pseudoscience, making it hard to understand how anyone could push through the rest of it. The author’s claims lack credibility, and the lack of solid evidence makes for an infuriating read. If you're looking for factual information or meaningful insights, this isn’t the book for you.

This is a great starting point for people who want to get familiar with the scale of emotions by Hawkins. The map, as described as giving hope to humanity is a well thought out scale of emotions. The examples given related to each emotion such as shame, fear willingness, reason love and enlightenment are well thought out and practical. "Each level has its own reality and no emotion is better than another". Very interesting to read that courage is a crucial turning point in reaching the more expanded emotions. My favorite chapter is "the way out of addiction" the person who climbs out of his own addiction literally walks the whole map from the bottom (shame, guilt, apathy etc) thereafter finds (courage, neutrality willingness and acceptance ) to change and at last enlighten oneself by teaching others.

This book has been a transformative and insightful companion on my healing journey over the past two years. Reading and rereading it has deepened my understanding of the vast spectrum of human emotions and levels of consciousness, shedding light on how the energy fields radiate immense life energy. This profound insight has confirmed what I have always felt and experienced personally in terms of emotions and energy, and confirmed how the energy I radiate can have such a powerful impact on people around me. It has also brought me more clarity to my own emotions and level of consciousness, and given me a clearer perspective of my relationship with God, with people and with humanity in general. For me, it was not only eye opening and illuminating, but also quite humbling.

I will always recommend this book to anyone who is curious about enlightenment. I had an nde and it came to me as an amazing gift from God. I understand the scale of consciousness in a way most could not. I do not judge them for how could they know? I wish everyone would get curious about their true journey here, and follow the scale. Feeling guilt? Have the courage to forgive and grow and watch the frequency change!
Probably the best book I’ve read regarding enlightenment as it’s not a lecture but an invitation…and of course the book includes our creator God, because they are not separate.

Incredible book for those new to their spiritual journey like myself. Instead of hearing the usual "ought to's" like love, compassion, understanding, Dr. Hawkins breaks down in very simple terms exactly why it's beneficial to all to practice these core tenets of the world's major religions. It also helps elucidate the meanings and practice of non duality. A concept that can be challenging to understand fully for those new to it.
