Rate this book
From the day the Fates decided he would be the warrior to train and lead a group of time-traveling clansmen, Reilly O’Malley has been certain of everything. He’s gone into every battle, verbal or physical, knowing that he will be victorious. Rescuer of many, protector of the O’Rourke clan, knight in shining armor―he lives up to all the titles with the full confidence of a man who knows he will live forever.

Gwendolyn Allen has been in love with Reilly, her best friend, since she met him more than a decade ago. But dreams of a happily-ever-after are dashed when Gwen finally accepts that Reilly won't return her love for him. She’s determined to move on, and she has…almost.

Reilly is tired of dancing to the Fates tune, and when he and Gwen find themselves thrown together for three weeks, the Fates decide to step in...or rather, step out. Suddenly, everything Reilly knows is shaken to its core. When his otherworldly abilities begin to fall through time, Reilly may have to trust in something other than fate.

He might just have to trust in love.

Born and raised near Boston, MA, Nancy wrote her first romance novel at age 16, when she realized that fictional boyfriends were much easier to figure out than real ones. In the time since, she managed to earn her B.A. in English from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, obtain a graduate certificate in creative writing from the University of Cambridge, and marry the man of her dreams (but she still holds tight to her fictional boyfriends).

Nancy adores all things misty, caffeinated, chocolate, and grammatically correct. Currently living in northern Virginia, she spends her time reading, writing, raising her children, and watching too many Hallmark Channel movies.

It was entertaining, but it lacked the real danger that was present in the previous books.
Here the only danger is psychological: will they remain together or not.

It was nicely written, but it was really dragged out.

I was so looking forward to Reilly's book and I was let down...

Reilly, instead of being the man of action, a man without fear, here was a teenage boy afraid of its own shadow! He just couldn't decide nothing! Shall he tell Gwen that she's his mate? What if she reject him? What if he has to keep time-hopping and she remains alone? And will she love him still? What if, what if, what if....

Gwen was better, because she knew she was in love with Reilly and she did everything in her power to let him know, but since he kept rejecting her she was very obviously afraid to believe his change of mind.

So, you see, this book is one long, long drama-lama...

This definitely wasn’t my favourite book out of the series and I was a bit disappointed with it as an ending. I just didn’t care for these two characters as much and their story got to be a bit tedious at times. I do still love the other characters though and just getting glimpses of them was worth reading this book despite my other complaints.

4.5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ In this entire book, there was one thing that annoyed me the most so I’m just going to get it out of the way first. I honestly liked Gwen’s fiancé Anthony.

He may have said some thoughtless things about her rich friends/family(he’s only human) and might have been a little heavy-handed when it came to her friendship with Reilly but.Who Wouldn’t! Reilly would intimidate even the most confident of men. Anthony was in love with Gwen and he had every reason to be weary of Reilly. Men always know if someone else is interested in their significant other, it’s a known fact that they have a radar 🚨. So I truly believe that he was a really sweet guy but Gwen’s choices put him between a rock and a hard place. And naturally he was threatened by her and Reilly’s relationship🤷🏽‍♀ However, I’m glad the author didn’t turn him into a jerk for the sake of getting Reilly and Gwen together. Rather, Anthony & Gwen’s relationship ended as one would expect, considering the circumstances.

That minor problem aside, I would be a liar if I said I wanted Gwen to end up with anyone but Reilly. He has always been my favorite character of the series. He’s big, strong and stern but has a kind and tender heart when it comes to those he loves. He also loved to tease them which was always enjoyable. Reilly endured so much for so long that there was no one more deserving of true love than him. When he realized that his time left with Gwen was limited, he moved mountains to be with her and I loved how hard he worked to woo her and show how he truly felt about her.

Gwen, although she did treat Anthony unfairly, was an great character. Aside from being stubborn, she was bold, witty, funny and a great friend to Ellie. I loved her banters with Ry. Their chemistry was off the charts. They also had a great friendship and I enjoyed seeing her fall even more in love with Reilly. Seeing Reilly struggle with a burden he carried around for so long, unable to get any relief just broke my heart but I’m so happy he finally got his HEA. Thoroughly enjoyed this one.

Falling Through Time by Nancy Scanlon
Mists of Fate #4

Reilly O’Malley is a hunk and a half BUT kind of dense when it comes to Gwendolyn Allen. He might have wanted to give her time to grow up but after ten years of being in the friend-zone with her she is ready to move on and find her happily ever after…especially when something rather dreadful happens in Venezuela. The man she decides to marry is not interested in letter Gwen stay besties with Reilly and can see, even if she can’t, that Reilly wants a whole lot more than friendship. It takes most of the book for Reilly to finally realize that if he doesn’t make a move soon he will lose Gwen AND the Fates step in to make things worse…until they step in again to make things better. For the most part this was an enjoyable book BUT I really got frustrated with both Gwen and Reilly from time to time. For people that were so “smart they said and did some rather unsmart things. It seems that the next book will be one about a woman stepping into the defender-time traveler business and I am curious to find out how that might turn out.

Thank you to NetGalley and Diversion Books for the ARC This is my honest review.

Reilly O’Malley has been certain of everything except Gwendolyn Allen. He’s been in love with her for ten years, but he’s afraid of committing to his “life mate. When Gwen learns that all Protectors are destined for one woman only Gwen has finally realized she’s not his life mate. Gwen gives up on Reilly ever returning her feeling is trying to move on and marry another man, a man to build a life with and have a family. How like a man to decide to change his feeling on claiming his mate when she decides to get married to someone else. Gwen and Reilly really are soul mates, they don’t feel complete unless their together. For Gwen she never feels any safer than when she is with Reilly. Now Reilly has his hands full trying to figure out to convince Gwen he really does love her and only her. An enchanting story of two stubborn people who desperately love one another, but won’t admit it. Read along to see how the tide turns and love wins the day every time. This is my honest opinions after I voluntarily read a copy of this book that was provided to me with no requirements for a review.

When Gwendolyn “Gwen Allen first meets Reilly “Ry O’Malley he saves her from an unsavory character. Gwen falls for Ry immediately and makes her feelings known that she loves him. Ry tells Gwen that she can’t fall for someone like him but instead offers to be her friend. As Gwen grows up there is one constant in her life, Ry, who utterly becomes her best friend. So, Gwen runs away from her feelings of love and leaves for Venezuela. Gwen stays away and even meets a worthy guy that even proposes to her. Gwen feels as if she can’t refuse so accepts. While Gwen is in Venezuela, she is almost killed yet manages to survive along with her betrothed. Gwen goes home and luckily Ry is there waiting for her. Gwen is so happy to see Ry that she hugs him. Ry is so glad that Gwen is home until he meets Gwen’s soon to be husband. The more Ry meets Gwen’s guy he doesn’t like him and realizes that in truth he really loves Gwen. Ry is approached by the Fates and Ry lets slip that Gwen is his soul mate. The only problem Ry will have to convince Gwen to give up on being betrothed and love him instead.
This is truly an amazing time travel story that I enjoyed reading! I did have trouble putting it down too. Yes, it is the last book in the series and there is some confusion because I didn’t read the other books in the series. I would have benefitted from reading the first three books just so I could learn the other characters. So, at first, I did have some difficulty getting into the story because of that but as soon as I did get into the story, I was just enjoying it. I just loved Gwen her spirit and independence! Okay maybe I had a bit of a girl crush on her too. Reilly did bother me especially when he was just so ignorant to Gwen’s love. I almost wanted to slap or shake him because he really deserved it. Still, he wasn’t a bad guy he just needed to say what he was feeling, yet I did understand his reticence too. Yes, it was a true page-turner but there is one big loose end at the end, that hopefully Ms. Nancy Scanlon will write more about Claire. I do plan to read the other book in the series now after reading this book though now.

Oh man, what a story...!

I loved Reilly from the moment I met him in Bri's book, but as the series progressed, my questions about him intensified. The long wait for answers finally arrived in this book!

Gosh, what a tumultuous ride Ms Scanlon dragged me through in time. The stakes were immense. Despite Gwen's determination in life, her internal battle against her love for Reilly ran the show. And the consistent pull to each other as one or the other stepped away almost did my head in.

Those blasted Fates. I wanted to scream at Gwen and Reilly sometimes (okay, pretty much all the time), regardless of where they found themselves in history. The miscommunication, the confusion, and the tricky Fates fueled my need to get to the end of the book... which I did at 0312 this morning. *yawns*

What an epic journey and a fabulous ending, not to mention a crazy set up for the next book. Yikes!!

Ah, Reilly. Everyone’s favorite hunky warrior by book 4, right? Book 3 eludes to his dabbling with Gwen, but aside from his role as Protector & his unfailing devotion to Bri, we don’t see much of his personal life until now. The connection between Reilly & Gwen is electric- but - as per usual, their wires are crossed. This was yet another installment I simply could not put down. I loved the fiery nature of Gwen, and her contrast to Reilly was perfection. Every part of this one has you rooting (yelling?) for their HEA. The steamy connection does not disappoint, (but also is never trashy). The ending is a stellar twist, can’t wait to see what the next book brings! I’m so sad it’s over (for now).

Love lasts All through the ages!

I love the whole series, "Mists of Fate" ! Riley and Gwen are two forever mates but Riley due to his erroneous thinking keeps holding off of claiming Gwen as his Forever Mate and she has decided to leave him behind to find someone who will love her. The Fates have given Riley just 3 weeks to have Gwen claim him as her mate or...........to find out if Gwen accepts Riley you'll have to read this fantastic book and BTW I couldn't put it Doan there was so many twists and turns! You are in for a wonderful life-changing experience as Riley and Gwen found out!!!!!!!!!!

Falling Through Time

This series is one of the best Time Travel I've been blessed to read. The approach to how the characters moved from one century to a different time was mesmerising and my only problem was with how stubborn Gwen was. I read this series during the Texas winter catastrophe when we had no electricity, no water, no groceries and no gas for the cars. My son rescued me and his house was one of the lucky ones with electricity. Power for my Fire kept me reading Loved the books.

Left hanging

This was a truly wonderful series. Book one took me a bit to get into but, once I did I loved it. Book two took me three days to read. It captured me right away. Really loved it. Book three was good better than good. I now finished book four and it's to be continued but, when? Last time I read a book and it was to be continued it's been years and I've never seen it. I most certainly hope the same doesn't happen. I would have given 5 stars had there not been a continuation. I will revise my rating when I do finish the continuation.

This series is getting better. The dialog between characters in a few place is brilliant.
This was the 4th one in the series, and the writing quality of Nancy S. has progressed. (You only get better with experience)
This book still needs editing. Characters are sometimes referred to, by their full names or by nicknames or by another characters nickname. Pat phrases, like chewing on lips, biting lips, or tongues, or cutting bait are used in one book far to often. BUT the dialog can be almost prophetic. Keep writing, NS. Keep editing.
I will read # 5 when you publish it.

I realized that I have read this one before book 3, Colin and Ellie's story. That's okay because I loved Falling Through Time and had a hard time putting it down! Each story in the Mists of Fate series has been wonderful and has captivated me from beginning to end. I thought Reilly and Gwen were great together and that this was a very romantic story. I will read book 3 next and then look forward to book 5 when it becomes available. I'm hoping that Claire and James make a connection.

My heart sighed

What a great series! Wonderful characters, well written and most of all, for me personally, love and romance, not lust and sex. My heart sighed with every story! I don't normally re-read books but I will certainly be rereading this series simply because of how much I smiled and yes, my heart sighed! Thank you Ms. Scanlon for the magical journey you took me on. I look forward to seeing more from you. I wish there were more authors with your style and elegance.

Loving this series

Nancy Scanlon has led us into the past and the present so brilliantly in each book to date when the last page is reached its a joy to proceed to the next. Gwen and Ry's story was a long time coming and told with just as much excitement and angst as the others. Having been left with an intriguing clue as to the next addition in this awesome series I cant wait to see where Nancy's brilliant imagination and storytelling skills lead us.

Wow, just wow! Sit back and enjoy the ride.

This book series pulled me in from the start. I laughed, I cried, I become overwhelmed with sorrow, jot, and just plain raw emotions. The books are written so well. The characters so real, you feel you could sit down and have a cuppa and heart to heart with them. It will be hard to leave them. Their struggles and triumphs became mine, same as what happens with any good friend. Scanlon deserves the accolades she has received.

I was never so happy to see "to be continued" when I got to the end of this book!!! I was so worried that I wouldn't be able to continue my journey with the O'Rourke, MacWilliam, and O'Malley clans, but now I don't have to!! This story had a lot of surprises in it ... and of course, I LOVE that the female lead characters, are not simpering maidens waiting to be rescued ... they take care of themselves and make their own choices on their own terms! I cannot wait for the next in this series.

Galling Through Time Book 4

As a protector Reilly traveled through time. He loved Gwen but wouldn’t claim her as his soul mate. He doesn’t age like others and didn’t want to put her through that. Yet Gwen learned and lived some of it accidentally. I cried when they left visiting his mother. I also cried when Gwen left the past and left Reilly behind. All in all it is a very good book

Another great story!

Love the interactions between generations of this extended family--some related by blood, some not, but they make for a great story while time traveling, how their intersecting lives unfold & how their new circumstances stretch each other & their patience to the limit! Read nearly all Nancy Scanlon's books on time travel so hopefully more will soon follow! Now must read other books by Marie Jean Davis for more entertaining novels! Thanks

This series of books was quite a surprise. I enjoyed each book and loved the fact that you actually got to visit with the series first set of characters. If you enjoy Time travel this author will do the trick. Her characters are strong and funny. Because you know that a book has to make you run the gambit of emotions, and laughter in my opinion is the best of them all .

Reilly and Gwen through the ages!

I loved all three of the books I have read. This one was a love story of Reilly and Gwendolyn. I read it every evening before going to sleep. Their lives went through so many ups and downs, I probably stayed up late and the next night, and many, many more. It was like having a movie in my mind.

A Must Read Series

This is a new author to me but have been finding treasures of authors for too many years to count. If you want to give yourselves a well earned worthy treat take the time to read this series from book1 to book 4.
It will be a series of a family of wonderful people that will stay with you. !

Yet another time travel book to love

Reilly and Gwen who have sacrificed so much for others finally have a chance to choose happiness with each other. It, of course, is not easy, since misunderstandings abound, but it keeps you riveted. This is the fourth book in a series and it allows the reader to revisit characters. I am looking forward to Claire's story in Book 5.

Best of the four

I laughed, cried (something I haven't done in a while.) and thoroughly enjoyed the fourth installment in this Mists of Fates series. This fourth book was the best so far. The storyteller improved with each book. I recommend the series but this was so good I never put it down.

great book

Love the story line. Characters continue for each book in the series. Each set of characters get their own stories but you can see what's been happening to earlier characters as their lives continue. I am excited for the next book to be released.
