Seven days. Thirteen dates with thirteen different people. One friendly competition between best friends (who are definitely not dating each other).
Peyton Abernathy wants to get married, and she’s ready to do something drastic about it. Like getting over her fear of making bad choices. She wants someone responsible, adventurous, resourceful, and inspiring. Someone who feels like peace and acceptance and home.
Someone exactly like her best friend, Max Peyton.
Except not Max.
Because that one time a year ago when she accidentally almost kissed him, he said he loves her like a sister. Like a sister. So yeah, she isn’t about to fall for her best friend. (Again.) Besides, Max told her that he doesn’t want to get married to anyone. Ever. Sure, it could’ve been the effects of his last relationship talking, but she is fairly sure he means it.
That’s okay, because she has a plan to find her perfect man. She and Max both need dates for a friend’s wedding, so she talks Max into a little competition—to see who can go on the highest number of dates, each with a different person, all within the span of one week. And by the end, each of them will ask their favorite to be their date at the wedding.
It’s a brilliant plan; she’s sure of it. Seven days and that perfect wedding date will hopefully turn into happily ever afters for both of them.

Peyton, oh Peyton! I loved reading your story. You had me laughing out loud at all of your antics. You're tenacious, competitive and fiercely loyal. Of course you wouldn't pause at the chance to have a little competition with your best friend Max. First one with the most dates in a certain time frame and finding a date to your roommate's wedding...bring it on!
Y'all, I was honest to goodness laughing out loud so much while reading this book. Both Max and Peyton had some pretty funny interactions, with each other and with their plethora of dates. There were so many memories that came flooding back to me from my dating experiences. Oh my heavens! I'm so glad I'm past the dating scene, especially after reading these funny and somewhat crazy escapades. The waiter, the fender bender, the exhausted date, the police.
And then there's all the great camping moments. Hahaha! I just loved this book. I connected with these characters and loved that Peyton had her story and found her wedding date, had some big "a ha!" moments and listened to her heart. I love when you read a book and there are so many great characters that you just want to know more about, but you also really like the main characters. Then to read subsequent books in the series and all the characters, main and secondary, are included and you get to keep enjoying them. This book brings these fun eclectic group of roommates together and shows such great relationships between them. Even the neighbors. They cracked me up, especially playing the game. Read it and you'll understand!
Darling and fun book full of heart!

I received a copy from the author. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.
Okay, this was adorable! <3<3<3 Peyton and Max are just the cutest thing ever, and I loved seeing their relationship slowly grow into more. Also--the fact that both of them knew they really wanted more from the start but were afraid to say so because of history and not wanting to destroy their friendship...I don't know, it was just so precious and beautiful. :)
I was really curious how the author was going to cover the whole week-of-dates plot while still giving us the time we needed with Max and Peyton together, and I ended up loving the way she worked it out! Plenty of hilarious (and sometimes cringe-worthy) moments, but nicely spaced and not uncomfortably squished to fit the timeline--it was really well done. Also, the game where they fill in the voices while people-watching--oh, that was hilarious! I loved it so much!!! X'D
I also appreciated the way Max and Peyton were willing to step out of their comfort zones and face their fears, and the fact that when challenges came, they felt like natural circumstances and reactions rather than drama for the sake of drama. (If you read much romance at all, you know what I mean...) Basically, I guess I just loved the whole thing! :D
Content--some kissing (not overly descriptive); noticing, touching, etc.; mentions of divorce and unhappy marriages; mentions of a miscarriage; some mentions of injuries, bruises, etc. (not graphic);
I really enjoyed this friends-to-lovers story! Peyton is an endearing character, I loved hearing all the embarrassing situations she would find herself in! Max was a likable guy! I thought this was well written, had a nice flow to it. Kept me engaged wanting to see what would happen next. I liked seeing past characters from the previous books, but it was written in a way that this one stands its own. This was an enjoyable read, I admit friends-to-lovers is not my favorite trope, but I thought it was well written here.
Great addition to the series!

This story is perfection in every single way. Hilarious humor? Check. Absolutely sidesplitting. Great characters? Check. And I looooved seeing characters from previous books in this series. Speed dating? Check. With some of the funniest dating stories ever. Swoony romance? Double check, check!
I loved everything about this book and it's just pure entertainment--straight to the heart. I loved the vivacity of Peyton and the amazing bond that she shares with her three best friends, but especially that rock solid best friendship that she shares with Max. Finally ready to settle down, she devises the ultimate dating competition and the results are self surprising.
I seriously laughed and swooned so many times that I lost count. This is one of my favorite series and this one is probably my favorite of them all. It's so comforting to come home to this group of friends and to delve into each one of the girl's lives in depth with each installment, and I can't wait for Timini's story.
Content: mild, swoony romance; lots of humor; mild moments of peril/danger
*I received a complimentary copy. All opinions expressed are my own and were voluntarily given.*
This was a fun romance! It had a great natural progression and likeable characters. I love seeing characters from previous books so predominantly in all books because it really gives feelings of friendship, community and home. This story is the classic best friends to more. It was a good one!
Peyton and Max have been best friends for four years and though each would like something more than friendship, both have their reasons for holding back. What will happen when one of them finally admits that friendship isn't enough anymore?
I loved their dating contest and all the hilarious stories. I loved their sweet relationship and how supportive they are with each other. I really enjoyed all the interactions with the other main characters - such a fantastic group of friends!
The plot was well-paced and captivating, the characters were people who you wish could be your best friends, and the romance was slow burn and sweet. What more could you ask for?
I absolutely loved this book from first page to last and can't wait to read Timini's story next!
I received a complimentary copy from the author but it in no way affected my review.
I’m really sad to have read the last of this series. Each of the characters in these books has become like a dear friend. And now I’ve finished. I loved the way Meg Easton wrote this series. Each of the girls living with her in her inn turned home had their own love story. And they are all awesome. They can be read in any order, but I’d probably start with How to Not Fall for the Guy Next Door.
This one features Peyton and Max. I loved Peyton. She’s the kind of person who is always caring about someone else. She meal plans and makes food for people as her profession. And she’s always got a story. I had to laugh at the hilarious stories she told about her job at the beginning and her dates later on in the book. She and Max have been best friends a long time. And she’s told herself that was all it ever could be. I loved how she came up with a contest to go on more dates than Max in a week. And how that ultmately brought them closer together.
Max is a great guy. I loved how he learned a lot about himself in this book. He had thought that because his parents had a terrible marriage, he would too. But during the course of the book he learned that he could trust himself to fall in love. And trust someone else with his heart. And his dates were hilarious too. I have no idea how the author came up with so many bad dates to include in this book, but they’re awesome.
I loved this book and this whole series. You won’t want to miss it!
Honestly, this series just keeps getting better. I've enjoyed each book, but I think this one was probably my favorite so far. Friends to more is one of my favorite tropes. If you love it too, this is a book for you! The opening chapter really hooked me right away. Peyton sharing her super embarrassing work story with her dad had me both laughing and cringing.
Max and Peyton have been friends for years. After her father has a heart attack, Peyton decides she is ready to settle down. She had feelings for Max at one point, but he quickly shut her down the time she tried to give in to those feelings so she's not going there again. Max grew up with parents who constantly fought and were frequently absent from his life. He's not interested in being a husband or father so despite his feelings, he knows he can't give Peyton want she wants, marriage and a family. Or can he?? Things get sticky when Peyton proposes a competition to see who can date the most people in a week.
I really enjoyed that Max and Peyton both had what I'd consider to be more unique jobs. In fact, thinking back, that seems to be a theme throughout this whole series. It really helps to give an original feel to each story. While I'd say you can read each as a standalone novel, I highly encourage you start with How to Not Fall for the Guy Next Door and How to Not Fall for the Wrong Guy as the same main cast of characters appear throughout the series and helps give better background to the current book you're reading. I'm excited for the final book but I'll be said to see this story end!
I received a complimentary copy of this book and I'm leaving an honest and voluntary review.
4.5 stars How to Not Fall for Your Best Friend is a sweet romantic comedy that has adorable characters and is just the right amount of uplifting, fun, and sweet romance to hit the spot. I really enjoyed the way the author developed Peyton and Max's relationship where they were friends who loved each other, but both afraid that they couldn't take their relationship to that next level. It was cute watching Max realize more and more how much he wanted Peyton in his life in a more permanent way and learn to overcome his issues as they were. The way they just knew and understood each other was inspiring and one of the reasons why I love the friends to more trope. This is a completely clean and wholesome romance. There is a great chemistry between Max and Peyton and when they finally acknowledge their feelings how that comes out in their attraction. I also enjoyed the comedy of their bad blind dates leading up to their realizations. I received an advance reader copy of this book, but will purchase a paperback copy of my own because I have really enjoyed it and the other books in the series so much. While I would recommend reading this book in series order because the previous characters make appearances with their significant others, you can read it as a standalone. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This whole book felt stilted and awkward to me. Everything, from the writing style, to Peyton and Max's journey from only friends to serious relationship and even the ending.
Maybe if I actually cared about the characters and their feelings it would've been different for me. As it is, no, I didn't get much out of this book.
So this series follows four roommates - Addison, Bex, Payton and Timini. Addison is a space organizer, Bex is a Youtuber, Payton is a personal chef and Timini is costume designer. When Addison inherits an inn from her aunt, she decides to move across the States and live there. Since it's too big for only one person and she doesn't want to run it as an inn, she decides to find other women to live with her. And on a conference for creative people she finds this incredible bunch of kind and lovely women. I read the series in order and though probably you could read the books as a stand alone, I definitely recommend to follow the stories as they develop. I would say Bex's story was my favorite, then Timini's, then Payton's and lastly Addison's. Great stories and very well told. This is the third in the series, Book 3. I would give it 4,5â. I didn't have the glorious feelings I had while reading Bex and Roman's story, but it was also enjoyable. Mostly the ending made everything awesome. I love it when a guy steps up and does the perfect (and romantic) thing. Otherwise it's the old story of two best friends - Max and Payton - who secretly love each other and are afraid to acknowledge their feeling fearing they will lose their friendship. Plus Payton wants a family and Max has decided he never wants to get married and have kids. They were cute, I liked how well they knew each other and saw the good in the other. Narrative: 3rd person following Payton and Max Religion: very slightly Sensuality: pretty clean, only kisses
How Not to Fall for Your Best Friend is the third book in the How to Not Fall series. It is the first book I have read in the series and I found it to be a charming book. It was a short book and perfect to read in one sitting. It was easy to read and flowed efficiently, in fact, I was at the end before I realized it! Peyton Abernathy is ready to get married but she needs to find the perfect man. Her friends suggest she have a contest and see who could get the most dates in a week. Then she could find someone to also go with her to one of her roommates wedding. Peyton thought it was a great idea and since none of her roommates would compete with her, she asks her best friend Max Peyton. Max has been in love with Peyton forever, but he knows she wants marriage and children while he doesn’t. After seeing how’s his parent’s marriage went, he decides marriage is not for him. He figures the competition would get his mind off Peyton but instead he just compares his dates to Peyton and finds them lacking. This was a sweet romance with cheerful characters. The characters were so easy to fall in love with and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This laugh out loud story has everything you could want in a romantic comedy book: sweet romance, terrible dates, quirky roommates and friends, and of course two people who everyone knows belong together. Meg Easton has done such a lovely job with How To Not Fall For Your Best Friend. It really captures the struggles of dating (especially while all your friends are getting married) and having feelings for someone you can't be with. Peyton is a really fun character that I loved so much (she may just be my favorite out of the group so far).
I feel the characters, storyline, and events are all so relatable and enjoyable. Yes, not everyone has had a dating challenge against their best friend, but this definitely makes you want to right? I think my favorite thing that happened throughout the book was some amazingly funny and awkward dating stories, most of us have had those and I enjoy hearing about them.
The How To Not Fall series is such a cute one that keeps you focused, dreaming, smiling, and laughing. I have loved the 3 so far and can't wait to start the 4th one this afternoon (yeah I couldn't even wait until the next day, so it's already sitting on my nightstand waiting for me haha). I highly recommend reading this book and the entire series.
How to Not Fall for Your Best Friend was Peyton and Max’s story. My dad also had a heart attack, I was in college and Peyton’s dad definitely reminds me of mine. Ready to jump back in. Loved their convo bc mine also loves to hear my stories... at least that’s what i tell myself lol Peyton collects business cards because they seem to be filled to the top with peoples hopes and dreams. It’s been fun to see their story since both mentioned in the previous books and see a tiny bit of their relationship. Being best friends who secretly love each other had definitely taken it’s toll on them and watching it all unfold was cute!
I’ve really like this series and the wonderful characters. All the characters are flawed and real, plus super relatable. The only thing I haven’t been a fan of is it’s starting to get predictable with the set up of the overall flow/events, BUT I like them enough to finish and like them. The ends are all super adorable.
Max and Peyton are best friends. They can talk about anything and everything with each other. They have a strong and solid friendship --- but they each want more, they just haven't told each other that! It's not that they don't WANT to, it's that they can't. Peyton wants marriage, kids and happily ever after. Max....doesn't. Peyton knows that and Max knows that....so it just wouldn't work out. However, after they make a bet to see who can go on the most dates in a week leading up to a friend's wedding, they just can't stop comparing all their dates to each other! Their dates are hilarious too! This is a story about trying to move friendship to the next level when you know it might not work out but you think you might try anyway. The secondary characters are fantastic and add so much to the overall story! I loved everything about this book! It was fun, touching, sweet, yet not overly so. It faced real world feelings and situations. I definitely recommend it! I received this from the author but these are my honest opinions!
A successful young chef, her friend who doesn’t believe in happy marriages, mix well = fun Peyton is finding success as a personal chef but not so much in her personal life. Max is her best friend but after watching his parents continually fighting, he is not sure happy marriages really exist. And if they do, he’s fairly certain his genes would rule a happy marriage out of his reach. Besides Max has a company to run and adventures to pursue and a wife and family would slow him down. Now with Peyton being encouraged by her father to find the right man and settle down Max is faced with losing her as his best friend. If he wants her in his life things need to change but what if change becomes failure and he loses her anyway? An excellent read with the right mix of humor, self-exploration and even a little danger mixed in. I was given a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
Who doesn't love a best friends romance? The best part was all the blind dates they went on to win a competition Peyton setup to help her find her the man she'll marry. They meet some interesting people and had crazy unbelievable experiences. Max introduces Peyton to camping and so many things go wrong with some pretty funny moments too. Peyton wanted her Dad to be around to walk her down the aisle and dreams of cooking in the kitchen with her children. I wish I could cook like her. Max was more into the outdoors designing and testing equipment for the company he works for. He is a goof ball around his coworkers. Peyton saw the positive in everything and Max could be more of downer at least when it came to relationships. She wants to get married someday and have a family and he doesn't want that. This was a sweet and funny opposites attract best friend romance.
I started reading this series by Meg Easton and have enjoyed it! She is a new author for me. The story of Max and Payton becoming best friends after becoming adults and naturally falling in love but fearing it. Max thought he couldn't be married or a father because his parents had such a bad marriage and his Dad was never around. He feared it was the norm and maybe genetic. Payton wanted marriage and children. They were both afraid to loose the friendship so they did not want to rock that boat after four years of being besties . Whay is surprising to me is that I did not realize the author was a clean writer until I read about her after reading two books in the series. I found I enjoyed it as much as the other contemporary romances. Meg Easton has a new fan!
I enjoyed Max and Peyton's story! And, it's great to meet up with Addison and Ian, and Bex and Roman, and Timini again, too! I love that Max and Peyton have no clue that they love each other. They've been friend zoning each other for awhile. Max realizes first that he really does love Peyton, but he's afraid he's not the right one for her, as he feels he won't be a good husband or father, and he know Peyton wants to get married and have children. It's fun to see the way they interact, and when they finally realize they do love each other, sparks fly! The only thing that could have made this book better would have been a strong faith element and having them rely on God to help them through.
I received a complimentary copy of this book, was not required to leave a review, and the opinion expressed is my own.
Cute friendship to love story. I love stories where the best friends are the opposite sex. Even if they aren't the ones that are supposed to fall in love. I just always like that relationship. I loved the dating competition stories. Funny experiences. I'd love to know how many of those were based on true stories. I also love this group of friends. Though I'm not sure I can imagine choosing to live with other married couples. But I like the characters. And I enjoyed the proposal scene. It was sweet.
Enjoyable read
No sex, language or violence *I received a complementary ARC of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
I so wanted to bang their heads together. How could Max and Peyton not see how perfect they were for each other for 4 years! This book is a standalone but also part of a series with the same characters, but you don't have to have read the previous books to enjoy this one. I loved their story, how they both had issues from their past that held them back, but between their parents and friends, they managed to work through everything and find their way towards each other. And then you think it's all boxed off once they start dating, but it isn't! More heartache and bad decisions. The ending was perfect for them and I'm glad they managed to get their HEA.
I do not think I have laughed so much as I did while I read this book. It was a sweet, delightfully funny, romantic story about Peyton and her best friend Max. The camping trip or comedy of errors was so much fun to read about..
I also enjoyed Peyton's , Find Peyton a Husband Plan. The dates Peyton and Max went onto see who could get the most dates were comical. I felt so bad for Max. This book left me with a smile on my face and eager to read the next book about Peyton's friend and roommate, Timini. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
This is a fun series. The story is a good one for when you want a fun & relaxing read. I got into the story in chapter 1. There were cute, funny and "aww" moments. The story flowed nicely. The dialogue & roomate dynamics felt natural. I thought there was the right amount of light tension & believable hurdles for young 20 somethings. One time the H did say "meet cute",lol. I thought do guys really say that? I learned a few camping trips. The h & H were both great and likeable. I rooted for them both. A few spots I think it kind of had a ya feel but that's not neccessarily a negative. I am excited for Timin's story! Overall this series is just fun while still having good writing.
Normally I say the problem between a couple is communication, but that is not the case here. Peyton and Max communicate with each other, they just have poor intercommunication with themselves. Meg Easton brings together best friends that really have the wrong ideas about themselves. Peyton, a personal chef, is afraid to make decisions. Max, an extreme sport enthusiast, has convinced himself he would make a terrible husband and father. It takes a bet, extreme dating, medical emergencies and intervention by friends to bring these two together. This was a fun story to read even while you are just shaking your head at the two of them.
I love picking up a book by Ms. Easton. I always know I am in for a treat. This is the third book of her How Not to Fall series. This is such a fun series! It is a cute story with some great funny moments that will having you laughing and smiling all the way through. What an adorable couple Max and Payton are! Their interactions were witty and humorous and I just couldn't stop smiling. They had awesome chemistry, too. If you're looking for a fun feel-good book, this is it. I highly recommend you pick this up! You won't regret it!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I love reading about these roommates and seeing them all again in each book. Peyton and Max are such great friends and so good for each other you can't help but root for them. I like that it goes into detail about Peyton and Max's jobs without being too detailed and taking away from the story. The comedy from all the things that went wrong throughout were great. I didn't find the guys talking to each other about feelings and that as realistic but could just be me. I enjoyed this book and am excited to read the next one about Temini! This series is best read in order but can be read stand alone.
Peyton is eager to get married and she knows exactly the kind of man she wants—one just like Max, her best friend. But not Max. Have you ever met two people who were soulmates that were meant to be together—and everyone could see it but them? That describes Peyton and Max, two characters who were so likable that I wish they were my friends. Their story is super romantic and pleasurable to read. I highly recommend it! I was entrusted with a copy of this book by the author and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Peyton and Max have been best friends for four years. Everyone can see they’re perfect for each other but they stay in the friend zone. Peyton wants marriage and kids and Max never wants to marry or have kids, so their goals are totally opposite. I don’t want to give away too much of the story. I’ll just say that watching Peyton and Max find their way to each other was sometimes hilarious and sometimes emotional. I loved that the angst was short-lived and the ending was wonderfully imaginative. Sweet story.
I received an ARC copy and this is my honest opinion
Sweet, clean and romantic story. The dating competition is hilarious and Peyton is a bit comical as well. In the midst of all the fun they juggle some serious perceptions and doubts as their friend zone boundaries stretch beyond their limits. Very likeable couple surrounded by a very supporting family and friends. They are not perfect but they are definitely perfect for each other. Super romantic ending. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Peyton and Max are best friends. You have seen them in other books earlier in the series (because of course you have read the other books in this wonderful series!). But their story is so funny and sweet. Because they have known each other for so long, you never see any first meeting awkwardness. The established friendship allows the story to start at a more developed place. What you get instead is these characters realizing, hiding, and trying to come to terms with feelings they tried to ignore for far too long.
