Continuum is a genre-defying collection of sharp suspenseful stories that tread on the darker side of human nature.
Ambitious in scope, it vividly moves through slices of time—from ages past, the present, and into the unknowable future. The stories question our deepest subconscious passions and asks—how much control do we really have? Can good people be conditioned to commit atrocities? Is it possible for kindness and cruelty to exist within the same person? Can our species ever extricate itself from our worst tendencies? In the most interconnected age in human history—why are some of us so alone?
Chad Lester’s debut collection of stories, Continuum, is a fascinating exploration of the darker side of human nature. He gives us an assortment of diverse genres, a kind of smorgasbord of short fiction—literary, paranormal, sci-fi, horror. The stories are thoughtful, intense, sometimes spooky, always engaging. He is definitely an author to put on your “follow list. I look forward to his forthcoming novel.
A free read for Kindle from Amazon. A collection of short stories that combine into one, as evidenced by the circle on the front cover. (I thought originally it was a coffee cup stain!)
Ranging from the bronze age, to Roman legionnaires fighting in Britain, a speakeasy, a schoolteacher in current times (who's a little too fond of corporal punishment) to science fiction in the future (way future), all genres are covered here. Most stories have some violence in them except for the speakeasy one--that one brings love and money.
Well written, eclectic collection of stories. This author is not afraid to explore bold ideas. I don’t praise often, but I do here. Great stories by a talented author. Excellent voice artists. I got a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review. I liked the audiobook so much I bought a physical copy of the book.
Progression through the ages and through technological innovation, but not necessarily through the development of human and/or humane advancements. The individual stories did not need to be any longer (or shorter) than they were - skillfully presented as snapshots in time. For a science fiction non-fan such as myself, they pulled me in and left me quite satisfied for the relatively short time spent reading this collection.
I loved this collection of short stories, which return at the end right back to the beginning. Anyone remember “Little Giddings by T S Eliot?!
Chad, thank you for this excellent book, which I read in one sitting. I’ve followed you so that I get news of your future work, and am poised to become a fan! 😊
I have always like short stories and this collection did not disappoint. They were science fiction with humanistic strengths and frailties. Great collection and highly recommend to short story lovers.
The stories started off on a low key note, but became better as they went along. Some of the stories were excellent, some were downright weird. I enjoyed reading this book.
