Mermaid Molly Price saves Dr. Max Miller from drowning just off dog beach on Turtle Island. His gratitude does not last for long. The next day he declares her dog Ursula(dressed up as a lobster) scientifically insignificant and fires them both from their gig at the aquarium. Max believes it is the best way to save the aquarium from bankruptcy. Being a mermaid is her day job, but now Molly feels both furious and frustrated. What will she do? The other quirky characters on the island will do their best to fix the problem. There are three octogenarians who call themselves "Charlie's Angels," Violet and her endlessly creative cupcake variations, and many more. Oh, and LOTS of dogs! Ursula, for example, is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel with some hidden talents. Probably not as insignificant as Max originally thought. And Opal (one of Charlie's Angels) keeps telling them that the aquarium will be just fine. This is a winsome, slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers romance that will fit just perfectly into your summer reading. Tuck it into your beach bag and enjoy.

I also enjoyed by Teri Wilson about identical twins with very different personalities who switch places at a beauty pageant.

One Liner: Good; Cute; Fast-paced

Molly Price is a mermaid at the Turtle Beach Aquarium. She loves her job, the laidback small town community, and her puppy, Ursula.

Max Miller, a marine biologist, is the new arrival in Turtle Beach town. He has the huge responsibility of reviving the Turtle Beach Aquarium and preventing it from shutting down.

Sparks fly with Molly and Max meet, but their relationship is more strained than happy. They are at loggerheads with each other, despite having the same goal of saving the aquarium. The community is right with them to help in any way they can.

When a chance event makes them realize that Ursula the puppy can sniff out turtle nests in the sand. Will this be enough to save the aquarium? Will Molly and Max find love in each other?

My Observations:

The book is a quick read with a fair sprinkling of well-known tropes. The cute cover with a super cute pup is a definite bonus.

The setting is lovely. The side characters are quirky, nosy, funny, and a bit annoying. This made the whole thing charming and cute.

Now, Molly and Max are the main characters. While sparks fly from their first meeting, the characters feel undeveloped.

Molly is supposed to be a sweet, naïve, capable, and sweetheart. Yet, she comes across as whiny at times and acts more like a teen.

Max is supposed to be the nerdy, serious guy who would learn to loosen up and live life. But he alters between being rude and sappy.

The romance is supposed to be a slow burn, I guess (they don’t kiss until towards the end). But it doesn’t really give the slow burn vibes or anticipation.

If the romance in a romcom is underbaked, it needs something else to keep the reader hooked. Here, it should have been the saving of the aquarium, but even that falls flat in the end.

All those ‘supposed to be is where my issue is. The book has all ingredients for an engaging rom-com but doesn’t fully deliver.

While I love Ursula, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, I don’t need to be reminded of the breed multiple times.

The saving grace is that the story moves at a good pace and doesn’t require any brain work.

To sum up, A Line in the Sand is a cute story if you want a familiar read. It is good but in no way great.

Thank you, NetGalley and SOURCEBOOKS Casablanca, for the eARC. This review is voluntary and contains my honest opinion about the book.

*Rant Time*

Alright. I’m pretty much used to the misappropriation of yoga by the Western world. But it is not funny to name yoga asanas with comical English versions. Renaming asanas to Murder Victim Pose, Peeking over the shoulder into the phone (whatever!) is not funny.

I get that the character wants to make yoga entertaining (and, of course, the other character finds it strange). But yoga is not entertainment. The spirituality is already lost. Please don’t mess it further.

I’m sure some people will find it funny, but I didn’t. Just call it a workout session or give it a new quirky name. It is not yoga. Period.

P.S: This is the only book by the publisher I was approved for, and there goes my 0.0001% of getting approved again.

A Line in the Sand by Teri Wilson
Turtle Beach series book 2. Contemporary romantic comedy. Can be read as a stand-alone but some characters from the first book play a role though minor.
He fired the mermaid. And her dog that was dressed as a lobster. Even though she had saved his life the previous day from drowning.
Molly loves the aquarium. She loves the children that visit and the social benevolence of saving the sea turtles on the local beaches. What else will she do now that she’s been fired?
Never fear, the elderly group of locals have a plan.

A fun romp of discovering the joy of living and loving in the moment as Max learns more about island life, while being put through the paces of yoga, bingo, wheelchair volleyball, and a Cavalier King Charles puppy that simply adores him.
The interfering elderly were a hoot!

This is the perfect beach read for summer 2022. It’s light, sweet, features an adorable scene stealing puppy, and has all of the right tropes to make you swoon this summer.

First of all, this book is grumpy x sunshine and opposites attract PERFECTION. Molly is a professional mermaid who works at the local aquarium with her adorable puppy Ursula. Enter our hero, Max, who returns to Turtle Island to take up the director position at the aquarium that his uncle owns. Max solidifies himself as the grump in this story when he fires Molly and her puppy on his first day on the job.

Molly and Max can’t seem to agree on how to run the aquarium but that doesn’t stop the sparks from flying between them. Despite both parties agreeing that getting together would be disastrous, the meddling secondary characters are always engaging in wild plots to get the two together and I was so here for it. There’s nothing I love more than a small town setting where the secondary characters are just as invested in the couple as the readers! Molly and Max's swoon worthy chemistry, plus the small town North Carolina location, makes this the perfect summer read and I highly recommend it.

If you’re looking for a slow-burn romance set in a small town, then this is the book for you!

Thank you so much to SOURCEBOOKS Casablanca and Netgalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

If you enjoy series with recurring characters then you’ll like this book. The meddling old ladies are at it again, this time their matchmaking involves a “Mermaid and the new director of the Turtle Island Aquarium. This had some pretty unbelievable moments, but it was cute and I had a few laughs.

I am simple: give me a small coastal town romcom with a dog on the cover, and I am going to pick it up.

This story follows Molly and Max who, after a life saving first encounter, don't get along. (plus molly's adorable puppy, Ursula) Unfortunately for both of them, their town is so small encounters keep happening and meddling towns people are constantly trying to play match maker. Their shared goal in saving sea turtles and the towns aquarium shows them they actually don't hate each other like they both thought.

3.5 stars. This was an adorable, light hearted beach read. This book was sort and easy to get through and a great pallet cleanser for me after I have been binging fantasy reads. I don't think this was the most revolutionary read but it was what I needed, as a mood reader, at the time and the dog stole the show. I would recommend this book for your next pool day/beach trip!

A huge thank you to netgalley and the publisher for an eARC of this book in exchange for my honest thoughts.

This was such a cute read! I highly recommend everyone to pick it up when it's out. I truly believe it's a perfect beach read for the summer. It's so easy to follow and easy to love immediately. The dynamics between Max and Molly are epic; if you enjoy nemesis to lovers, but they TOTALLY know they are attracted to each other this book is perfect for you.

Molly is a pretend-mermaid at an aquarium in her little beach town. Soon her life gets upended when the new director of the aquarium fires her as soon as he meets her. Max just came from the big city to this little town in order to handle his uncle's aquarium. It's not creating cash, so he needs total calm, ideas, and not to f*ck it up in order to achieve the impossible. But he never expected a pretend-mermaid with her cute puppy to mess up with his plans.

Oh, this is low heat. Not one sex scene, so if you're okay with that, then please read it! The tension between the two main characters is delicious and they have those kinds of moments where you're wondering WILL THEY WON'T THEY and too many almost-kisses that you'll be screaming in your pillow.

I love small towns, especially in romance books. I've been reading books recently that are set in small towns and I just love how the authors have done them. I love the friendships and found families you find in them. I love the little activities they do and how those events create opportunities for the main characters to interact and fall in love. It's genius! And they are so much fun. Because almost always the meddlesome people in that small town try to play matchmaker with the main characters lmao and it creates very fun moments.

This book (and this series) is filled with lots of cute dogs and other animals too. This one, in particular, has turtles, baby seahorses, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy, a Chihuahua that doesn't stop shivering, a Pug that is always dressed as its owner, and lots of other cute animals. The heroine owns the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy and this puppy is such a big part of this novel she's basically another main character. Also, the heroine dresses Ursula (that's the puppy's name!) as a lobster so she can be there with her when she's working as a mermaid. SO CUTE I TELL YOU.

You definitely want to be reading this book when it's out! You're going to go through it very quickly and the time you'll spend reading it is going to be time well spent.

The cover? Adorable The book? Even more adorable.

A rom-com featuring a major character who is a dog? Yes, please keep giving me that. This book is a fun and short read for the summer. As Max returned to Turtle Beach, North Carolina, he meets Molly. He's returning to take over the aquarium, which is rapidly declining.

They first meet when Max almost drowned in the ocean and was saved by Molly. They didn't expect to see each other so soon after, though. Molly works as a mermaid at the aquarium alongside her dog, which Max doesn't really like, so he fires her. The only problem is that Max had no idea how much Molly had done for the aquarium, so getting her back will be difficult.

Since they live in a small town, news always circulates quickly. Especially after Max fires Molly and soon earns a reputation as a dog hater. But that's fine because Max figures out his shit. Well, not without the assistance of "Charlie's Angel," a group of charming senior citizens. I adore it when elderly people assist these young people in falling in love.

I loved being back in the kooky town of Turtle Beach! You've got dogs galore, sea turtles, sand sculpture contests, and meddling, lovable seniors. This story was the epitome of summer! I've got a craving for a Milky Way frozen latte from Turtle Books.

Beginning with Max nearly drowning and rescued by Molly, this was definitely a meet-cute to remember. Marine Biologist Max is back in Turtle Beach after twelve years, stepping into the position as director of the Turtle Beach Aquarium. Unexpectedly finding the aquarium struggling, his first budget cut is the on-site costumed mermaid, Molly.

I really liked the initial bickering between Molly and Max. And the storyline of saving the aquarium was so fun! But overall there weren't many scenes of them together that proved an emotional connection. I didn't quite believe their romance, aside from a physical attraction. I will say, though, the grand gesture was absolutely adorable! I enjoyed book one more, but this was still a very cute read.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own

So, where do I start? Yes, I had high hope for this book. However, I was very disappointed with it. This didn't really seem like an adult or even a young adult novel. This book seemed to be geared more towards the pre-teen crowd.

Several things I really disliked were that there was truly nothing about the main characters that made me 'feel' anything for them. They were childish, self-absorbed, immature, and silly. Also, the overabundance of dogs was a put-off for me; although dog lovers may like this aspect, I suspect that even the most avid dog-lover will be a bit put off by this many pups.

These are some things that I did like:

Clean -no sex whatsoever, just a lot of thinking about kissing. Sometimes I just need a book with no heaving chests, passionate thoughts, or explicit descriptions of sex. No, I'm not a prude-but I have to be in the mood!!!

Some people won't like the elderly people in this story-it is the one trope that I did love. However, I like the trope of the feisty elderly person, and the twist at the end of the book made this aspect even better.

I did like the idea of the dogs being able to sniff out the turtle's nests. It would be cool if they really could do such a thing.

I loved learning more about how a rescue center like this works, and I also liked learning more about the sea horses.

All in all, this was not a horrible book; it was just a bit too fairytale-ish for my tastes.

This was a sweet, simple and quick read. It's about Max Miller, a marine biologist who quit his job in the city and decided to help his uncle with an aquarium after his retirement. He meets Molly Prince- a jovial and street smart girl who works as a literal mermaid in the aquarium and has lots of knowledge about how things run around at their workplace. Now he needs her help to raise funds to save the sinking aquarium but the problem is, he has already screwed up his chances by firing her and her cute little puppy. Overall, the book was nice with a vibrant feel but the over description of things and boring conversations with some side characters made me skim through a lot of scenes. I wasn't so invested into the side characters tbh, I wanted to see more of Max & Molly together. The last few chapters were quite cute but the lack of epilogue disappointed me.

This was a sweet, feel-good, dual POV, enemies to lovers, small town romance between dog/turtle lover Molly, the aquarium's Mermaid greeter, and Max, the grumpy new director who starts life off in Turtle Beach completely on the wrong foot.

I loved the small town characters, the retiree matchmakers, the turtle rescues and the messily, relatable MCs. Molly has a bit of social anxiety while Max just can't seem to make a good impression on Molly even though he's completely smitten.

Perfect for fans of Sally Thorn's Second first impressions. Much thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital copy in exchange for my honest review. I loved this cover AND it was good as an audiobook narrated by Renee Dorian and Justin Price.

Reason #21 why I love romance novels : where else can two people babysit a turtle nest as a date?

My second trip to the fictional small town of Turtle Beach, North Carolina, was even more fun than the first ! I loved everything about this love story between a scientist who almost drowned and fired the professional mermaid who saved him, but I needed an epilogue.

If you want to talk to Molly Price, search for the bubbly woman dressed as a siren who drive a turquoize vintage Vespa. She's probably at the dog beach again with her adorable Cavalier King Charles spaniel, Ursula.

If you need a word with Max Miller, the new Turtle Beach Aquarium's director, these days, you can find him frowning at the spaniel who's always digging in the sand, trying to find solutions for his business' financial crisis or participating at the seniors' numerous events, attempting to talk to his uncle, the former Aquarium's supervisor.

The lesson to learn from this story? If you're a newcomer to Turtle Beach, don't mess with a well loved local or you're going to have to answer to the elders🤪.

A book for turtle fans. A series for the dog lovers.

This was such a cute book! I loved the meet-cute with Molly saving Max’s life. Although these two become enemies, I enjoyed the mutual pining. Ursula really brought these two together in the most unlikely way and I loved that the pup was just as important to this story as ours leads. The Charlie’s Angels didn’t disappoint with their meddling shenanigans and it was nice to see some of the other residents of Turtle Beach. Violet and Sam are going strong with their dogs! I highly recommend this adorable beachy romcom!

A Line in the Sand by Teri Wilson is the second book of Turtle Beach. Molly Price plays a mermaid at the aquarium. While in costume, she rescues a man from drowning at the dog beach. This man turns out to be Max Miller, a marine biologist who is studying sea turtle mating habits for the aquarium’s turtle preservation project. He is also the new aquarium director. Molly and Max clash when he fires her because the aquarium is underfunded. The community of mostly seniors and dogs band together to show Molly and Max that they are meant to be together, and to save the aquarium and sea turtles.

This is a cutesy story perfect for Hallmark Channel. I thought the dogs—especially Molly’s dog Ursula—were a really nice touch. This is a good light summer read.

This is the second in the Turtle Beach series. I love when there are elderly characters cause they just don't have any qualms about pushing things to go the way they think they should. They are usually right so listen to your elders.

Ursula the puppy was such a huge character from the start. She's a conversation starter, a problem solver, a matchmaker.

I loved the enemies to lovers romance between the mermaid entertainer and the new Aquarium director, Molly and Max. I loved his uncle's motives for getting him to move to the island to help him save the aquarium. Also her dad's motivations for being so hard on her and trying to get her to go back to school for her PhD.

I want to eat all of a Violet's yummy treats and be in her yoga class.

I loved the sea turtle project and who was helping find the nests. I've always been fascinated by watching the babies find their way to the sea.

This book is about a girl named Molly who works as a mermaid at the local aquarium/marine animal rescue that specializes in helping sea turtles. Molly’s little Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy Ursula goes everywhere with her and even works at the aquarium in a crab costume. That is until Max the aquarium’s new Director fires her and Ursula stating that they are “scientifically insignificant.
The town is upset, and make life really hard on Newcomer Max not to mention he starts to realize how much Molly did for the benefit of the aquarium. It’s not long before he’s begging her to come back.

When I first saw the cover of this book I knew I had to read it! It was a quick and easy breezy read for me. It was a cute story and I loved watching the town rally around Molly after she is let go. Max is a brainiac and can’t always see that sometimes fantasy adds to the magic of real life. The ending of the book is exciting when they discover Ursula’s secret talent. I love all the work that the town puts in to helping Sea Turtles. Something that was missing for me was the connection between Max and Molly. I just never felt the spark between the characters.

If your looking for a sweet romance that was made for an animal lover this book is for you ❤️

A line in the Sand
by TerI Wilson is a quick, fun romantic comedy perfect for a day at the beach. A meet cute for a workaholic marine biologist and a turtle loving mermaid.

This was a super fun, easy read. With likable characters, low drama, low angst and sadly very low steam . Pretty much exactly what I think of when I think of a beach read. The story itself isn't very exciting, but still an enjoyable small town romance. Filled with quirky elderly folks, friendly pups around ever corner , a small fake relationship situation, a brilliant and lovable Spaniel, baby turtles , a sand sculpture competition, cupcakes, and bingo.

 PRINCEMAN REVIEW

Debate question: Are animals support for us humans, or are we support humans for animals?

A Line in the Sand by Teri Wilson had me thinking about this a lot! I instantly wanted to read this book since a Cavalier King Charles was on the front. 🐶 I was cracking up 😂 the whole time because Ursula, the dog in this book, reminds me EXACTLY of Prince! I can tell Wilson owns a Cavalier because they are super "needy" dogs.

📝: Half of Molly's heart and soul lies with the aquarium in her small-town beach community. The other half is with her King Charles Cavalier.

Max is new to town as the aquarium's director. He's feeling the pressure of financial issues, and cuts Molly's job due to budget cuts. While they may not see eye-to-eye, saving turtles 🐢 is something they can both agree on. Can they work together to save the aquarium?

What I 🤍:
🐶 Ursula, the Cavalier
☀ Grumpy x Sunshine Troupe
💕 Lighthearted, Fun Read
🧜‍♀ Aquarium/Coastal Setting
👵👵👵 Meddling "OG Charle's Angels"

This was such a fun read! It was pure escapism offering a sweet, clean romance. 💕 I absolutely adored all the side characters in this novel. The 3 meddling ladies were the best matchmakers and brought all the fun shenanigans! 😂

Prince's Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Steaminess: 🔥 (Kiss)
Read if ➡️: You need a light, sweet, escapism read. Perfect to read after reading a scary thriller.

Overall, I loved the setting and plot line. This would make the perfect Hallmark Movie. I did feel like the chemistry was lacking between the two main characters. Molly felt a bit immature for someone in their late 20s and Max came off hot/cold too much for me. This is a miscommunication troupe, so it's perfect who love that storyline.

Huge mermaid fan here.... like HUGE! So I was super excited to find this rom com (2nd in Turtle Beech series) featuring a cosplay mermaid who works at a scientific rehabilitation aquarium who falls for her new director. Loved the ongoing storyline featuring the retirement community but in whole didn't feel like there was enough one on one conversation (and even that was mostly flirty bander with not much depth) to declare everlasting love to one another and planning futures. I would almost have preferred it becoming a wonderful meet cute story with a promise of dating and getting to know each other storyline. Oh well, still fun but guess I wanted a bit more from the book.

Molly works at the aquarium as a mermaid and her dog Ursula is always with her. The new director of the aquarium fires her. Molly is peeved and that starts the beginning of the enemies to lovers trope.

This was a fun quick read. I enjoyed the characters and the small town setting. The senior citizens were my favorite part of the story. Ursula the puppy is also a treat.

This was a cute beach read. The characters were likeable and the setting was quaint. A lot of it seemed a little implausible but the overall story held my interest and kept me reading. The romance itself didn’t really work for me. It was hard to believe and barely came together at the end. Recommended for a fun beach or vacation read.

This is what Hallmark movies are made of! This was such a sweet, quick read and I enjoyed the islandy, summer vibes. This will be a perfect book to throw in your beach bag or to take with you on vacation.

Molly is the easy going local who works as a mermaid at the aquarium on Turtle Island, and Max is the very serious marine biologist who comes to town to take over as the new aquarium director. When Molly saves Max from drowning on his first day on the island, Molly has no idea that he’s her new boss. Unfortunately, Max promptly fires her from the aquarium when he realizes that the aquarium is in financial trouble, and hilarity ensues when the locals band together to help Molly get her job back.

I really enjoyed this closed door, enemies to lovers, grumpy/sunshine romance. I loved the beach town/island setting and I thought making the MC a marine biologist was a fun, unique choice. I really liked the evolution of Max and Molly’s relationship and how all the meddling seniors kept jumping in to help them realize they were meant to be. The dogs in the story were a nice touch and I really liked Molly’s dog, Ursula. I think she stole the show for me, personally.

I loved Wilson’s writing style and I will make sure to look for other books by this author. This is the second book in the Turtle Beach series, but can be read as a standalone.

Overall I thought this was a cozy, summertime read and I am so thankful to NetGalley and Sourcebooks for the early copy to read and review.

This was such a sweet summer read! I loved all the small town aspect parts. Everyone is so supportive of each other and everyone is there to help. I can’t get enough of the elderly people in this series! Especially the Charlie’s Angels ladies! They are these three elderly ladies who are super meddling but truly want the best for everyone. I loved the banter between Max and Molly. I loved Molly’s job as a mermaid and all that she does for the aquarium. She’s definitely a unique heroine! I loved all the sweet moments between Max and Molly. Their first date was so adorable! The story was very interesting and had me intrigued throughout. I loved all the turtle talk and now really want to see turtles hatching! I also have to say that Violet’s cupcakes now has me craving cupcakes like crazy!

Molly saves Max from drowning and it just may be a case of kismet. Except shortly after, Max fires Molly. What could have been destiny instantly turns into a case of "this town ain't big enough for the both of us".
Teri has been a long-time go-to author for me when I need a sweet and quirky, easy, breezy romance. I can always count on her for a romcom with a fun cast of characters. I haven't been much in the mood for a contemporary romance lately but, even so, I enjoyed the return to Turtle Beach and the cameo appearances of characters from A Spot of Trouble.
