A great book. I a martial artist and fan myself I loved every second of the book. The technique, philosophy, the mental and physical practice and attributes were all covered perfectly.

Thus book also combines a number of my favourite stories, part X-MEN, some Jason Bourne and Highlander all rolled into a great epic story, that I can't wait fir the next part to come out.

Imagine waking up with no memory of your life ip to this current point. Then discovering you have abilities, and knowledge way beyond normal people. Oh and there are people with the same abilities trying to kill and other who might want to protect you or would they just betray you layer? You know everyone has an agenda, who can you trust? Especially if you can't even trust yourself.

This is a great book if you are a fan of martial are or any of the above mentioned stories. You will notice their elements straight away, and will not be dissapointed. I really can't wait to see happens next. Also one of the most major players of thus series has yet to make an appearance yet.

This book was honestly one of my favourite reads of 2022, and I don’t think I’ve ever read a book like this before. I love a unique story.

The cover was immediately attracting my attention and I was lucky enough to grab a gifted copy off the author. From the minute I opened the first page I couldn’t put the book down. The power of telekinesis, the war between two powerful groups, the journey of self discovery and loyalty with intense obstacles. I loved this so much.

The two conflicting personalities of Zoe was fascinating to follow and the conflict of these gifts were intense and powerful.

The thing that I loved the most about this was the ending, it was unusual and open ended for HOPEFULLY a second novel which I’d grab within seconds!

I would love to see this as a Netflix series. What a brilliant book!

Link to the original review:
Fractured is the first book in the YA series Telepath, by Gordon G. Bowman, featuring a great main character who has lost her memories, and is situated in Canada, a location that isn't usual in urban fantasy. Martial arts, a secret school for gifted kids, and a conspiration related to the origin of some of these Telepath people are part of this excellent novel.

Zoe gets up in the middle of an alley in Ottawa, with a concussion, and has lost her memories, not ever remembering her own name. While fleeing to more mysterious people with telepathic abilities and swords, she discovers that she possesses that kind of ability and that she's also proficient in martial arts. After stumbling around the city for a bit, she enters into contact with a professor of a mysterious academy, situated in Toronto, and not being exempt from problems, she's given refuge at that Academy, a place for gifted children like her.

This is a fast-paced novel, full of action scenes that keep you going. While it slows a little bit when Zoe reaches the Academy, it is true that this becomes a part that allows us to explore more the world of Telepath, and how there are two types of person, the Typicals (those who don't have powers) and Telepaths (those gifted with powers); and how Telepaths are educated so they can become part of the world. It also helps us to take a certain breath, as since the start conflict is a constant in this book, with plenty of martial arts involved.

The concept of the Academy is certainly interesting, as it is another way to see the trope of magic academy, being this much more oriented to make the attendees ready for real life and to deal with the problems derivated from being a super powerful person surrounded by normal ones. It also features people from different countries, something that sometimes gets overlooked in other sagas. Outside of controlling their powers, they are also taught martial arts, which explains why Zoe was so good at that concrete aspect and also gives an excuse to include more spectacular scenes.

Characters are kinda interesting, especially Zoe. As a person who has lost her memories, and is being prosecuted by others, it is difficult to know if what she's being told is true and what's false, making us wonder if the picture that is presented to us is complete. The professor is also a character, that protects Zoe in the way a parent will do; and that becomes the only exit for him; and Ethan, the alleged friend of Zoe, also becomes a key piece in the plot.

Fractured is a great novel for those who want to read a different take on the YA trope of a magic academy and characters with powers. It is compelling from the start to the end, and I really enjoyed it, as its fast pace made me feel hooked on it. Totally recommended, waiting to see how the sequel looks.

This is a thrilling YA sci-fi/fantasy read!
Zoe, a teenage girl, wakes up with no memory of her life and soon comes to find out she is a Telepath with incredible fighting skills and mental capabilities. As she tries to find out who she is and more about the abilities she possesses, she finds her way to the Academy, a school for Telepaths.
When Zoe starts to unravel pieces of her blocked memory, she finds herself torn between her new life and who she was.

You can tell that a lot of research went into this book because everything is so well explained and pulls the reader in. The detailed descriptions of the history of Telepaths and Typicals, the martial arts techniques, and the characters themselves were amazing.
Zoe's struggles with knowing who she was and who she could be were captivating. I found myself on the edge of my seat waiting to see what she would remember and who she could trust.

As the story continued on, I couldn't put it down.

Zoe's story was fascinating and I'm curious what is next for her!

For any fans of science fiction grounded in realism, the first installment in the Telepath series is a great first-read! With world-building grounded in history, and a complex protagonist, I found the fast-paced reading perfect and enjoyed the development of the characters. The twist at the end offered a perfect hook and this was a perfect introduction to a series I'm excited to finish.

A fast moving scifi/fantasy for all ages. The two personas of Zoe and wondering what is going to happen next makes me hopeful that the next book in this series won't be too long in coming. Great read! I highly recommend it.

“Fractured the first of the “Telepath novels is a fantasy thrill-ride that opens as a young girl named Zoe fleeing the sword-wielding Rogues pursuing her in an alleyway in the Ottawa Market ends up at a Toronto International School for Telepaths without any memory of her past. Aware she is gifted in the martial arts and has other abilities Zoe searches for her former identity slowly recovering only a scattering of childhood remembrances and fearful that she may not like the person she was.

Fast-paced and gripping, the suspense accelerates with a mysterious link to a Viking jewelry box brooch; her ability to speak Mandarin; and a past friendship with Ethan who’s chased by the Telepaths she fled. Yet amid all of Zoe’s emotional-turmoil there are touching moments in her relationships with Professor Chao, his daughter Lin and even the headmaster.

Well-developed, the intensity explodes when Zoe discovers her dual personality and her link to a shadowy organization as well as the bitterness of events years in the making. This page-turner keeps you on the edge of your seat and flows seamlessly to an ending that promises a second book.

Bringing the plot to life the author has created a wonderful cast of compelling characters like the agile, cautious but lethal Zoe; her kind, well-liked friend Lin; the watchful, skilled martial arts teacher and good judge of character Professor Chao; and her dedicated friend the skilled fighter
Ethan. These and others infuse the story with power as well as heightening the anticipation of what will happen next.

I thoroughly enjoyed “Fractured the first in the “Telepath novels and look forward to reading the next exciting chapter in Zoe’s life.

Fractured (Telepath Book 1)

Looking for a truly absorbing read?

I saw a book recommendation for Telepath on social media. The Look Inside portion of the story was riveting and I just had to read more. So glad I bought it! Two of my sons (14 and 17) are reading it too and can't put it down. I've finished it within 24 hours and they are only just behind me.

Telepath delivers a great adventure story in a world where there are two main types of people - Typicals and Telepaths. The Telepaths keep themselves successfully hidden from the Typicals until a secret group of Telepaths called Rogues plan a takeover. The main character, Zoe, wakes up from a physical battle with amnesia. She clearly has great powers but she is not known to the Telepaths. They take her to their academy where all Telepaths are trained and there she makes friends, learns to use her powers without resorting to anger and tries to figure out whether she is one of the good guys or not.

Zoe's story held my attention the entire way through, I thoroughly enjoyed the book and can't wait for more of Zoe's adventures. I have short amounts of time to read and usually read a chapter of a book and put it down. I couldn't do this with Telepath. It wouldn't let me go.

Awesome storytelling, Mr. Bowman. I hope you are busy writing :).

Overall Enjoyable Read

Fractured follows the story of Zoe, a young female protagonist who is not only tough but is also an inexplicably powerful Telepath.
Ìý
The book throws you right into the action, which I loved! We begin with a teenage girl, who we soon learn to be Zoe. But Zoe doesn’t remember anything . She doesn’t know who she is, why a bunch of sword-happy operatives are chasing her around, or why she has vast amounts of martial arts knowledge plus some mighty telepathic-like powers.
Ìý
I was intrigued by the premise of the story. It felt like an almost Harry Potter meets sci-fi as we follow Zoe to the Academy for Telepaths (a place the Typicals—regular people—couldn’t attend).
Ìý
The book begins very well but slows down quite a bit after the first couple of chapters. There is a good amount of “telling when I felt there were many opportunities to “show us more things to develop the plot and characters further. I would have also liked more detail in character descriptions, settings, etc.
Ìý
I think the book has a ton of potential and could reach a whole new level with a line edit—someone to look over things like consistency, flow, phrasing, etc.
Ìý
Overall, I did enjoy the read and am excited to see what future work from this author will look like.

That feeling of magic when you stumble upon a hidden gem of a novel before everyone else discovers it... :)

I was swept away in the 'Telepath' world and could NOT put the book down. It somehow managed to perfectly balance thrilling action and suspense with moments of deep reflection on identity and philosophy of mind. I found myself thinking about Zoe's struggles with the relationship between memory and self days after finishing the book. This novel sticks with you in a way that many others often don't.

I loved that not only do you question the loyalty and trustworthiness of each of the other characters, but you find yourself questioning if you can even trust the protagonist. It creates such a unique feeling of suspense that keeps you wanting to read 'just one more page.'

The sequel cannot come soon enough!

Waking up with no memory of anything, including her name, Zoe is soon thrust into a very unfamiliar world where people have the ability to battle with mind control. She shares these abilities, but cannot control when she accesses them. Being found by a professor of an academy which teaches others like her to control their telepathic abilities she makes a new friend in his daughter, and together they try to unravel the secret of who she is. However, this secret may put everyone she cares about at risk if she turns out to be a double agent. Something she hates to even think about.
I received a physical copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. I love YA fiction, although I haven't been reading it a lot lately. It just hasn't come up as much in my review requests. Still, when I started this I was excited to see what lay in store. With the physical books I read them at work in between calls. For those that don't know I work in a call center. This is great because it breaks up the monotony and gives my eyes a break from constant screens. However, when I am really enjoying a book, like I was with this one, it is also a pain because the book stays at my desk. So I don't have it when I'm home and can't devour it like I want to.

This book will keep you guessing which side Zoe is on and what the arrival of her friend from her old life could possibly mean. I went back and forth on it, but had ultimately decided on what ended up happening. However, I didn't expect what happened to the primary background character that died. I won't tell you who it is or how just that someone dies. There are a lot of primary background characters, though, so good luck with that minor spoiler.

I enjoyed this book so much that my supervisor and friend, Sadie, wanted to borrow it as soon as I was done so that she could read it too. While this book does have some aspects of YA romance it is primarily YA fantasy. The romance aspect was barely explored, although I could see it progressing much as Cassandra Clare's characters did. Without the temporary sibling plot point. This book absolutely ends on a cliffhanger and will leave you wanting more. I know I do!

Zoe wakes up in a dark alley surrounded by paramedics and has no memory of who she is or why she was in the alley. After escaping the hospital, she returns to the alley only to be confronted by a "friend". He tells her to go to Toronto seeking refuge and the "academy" because her life is in danger. Unable to determine if she is a friend or foe, the headmaster admits her to his school but keeps her under close observation and requires her to visit a psychiatrist to see if her memories can be returned. While attending the academy Zoe realizes after her friend stops by that nothing is what it seems, and she is determined to find out who she was before her amnesia.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading every single word that was written in Fractured. I was immediately sucked into the story trying to figure out everything there is to know about Zoe. It's one of those stories that keeps your mind wondering what will happen next while you are away from reading. The imagination, creativeness, and details that Gordon Bowman put into this story are phenomenal. I was blown away by the twists that appeared later in the story, and I can say I did not see them coming. This story was so well thought out and executed, that I can't say enough good things about this book. If you get the chance to read Fractured, I highly recommend that you do. It's a fantastic fantasy read.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

- Telepathic world building
- Doom (such a cool game)
- Intense answers to questions
- Gutting ending

Thoughts 💭
Have you ever wondered what it would be like if Jason Bourne was a teen girl with telepathic abilities? Because that is exactly the vibe I got while reading Fractured.

With Zoe having no recollection of her past she is on a mission to find out if she is meant to be who she feels she is, or if she was sent as a double crossing powerhouse. Although the story is written in third person, we follow Zoe through every interaction and encounter, learning as she does about her past and intentions.

There were many aspects of this book that I really enjoyed. Zoe has a lot of teen angst, you can easily tell that is a core trait, she's not afraid to stand up for herself. I found the book picked up in pace after the world building and telepathic systems were solidified, and it got better from there.

While many questions were answered and we leave this book with a lot of understanding, that ending was gutting. It also sets up for an influx of more questions. I am looking forward to knowing where Zoe will go from here, how she will keep her promise and what crazy things are going to happen in Mindbender.

Telepath was a fantastic read. The novel gains momentum as the story unravels and I couldn’t put it down by the end. Bowman creates exciting scenes with vivid descriptions allowing one to imagine the energy and excitement but not being cumbersome in description and length. The storyline is complex and full of twists. The characters are engaging and complex. I enjoyed the book, at least as much as children. I highly recommend this novel and look forward to its sequel.

This is a YA book about people with telepathic abilities. I love how Zoe always stood up for herself but in a very well mannered way. This is a really good story about power and making the choice on who you are going to be and protecting the people you love. There were a few plot twists that I didn’t see coming and they shocked me. I was captivated from the beginning and couldn’t wait to finish and then start the second book.

I was worried at first that I had picked up a Harry Potter wannabe, only with Harry as a female character named Zoe, but the more the book progressed, the more it became evident that the heros and bad guys were not who you supposed them to be.
Zoe is a conflicted young woman who has lost her memories. At first she tries to regain those memories, only to begin to question her real identity and her true purpose. In the end, her choice isn't altogether unexpected, but the out come is.

Children with telepathy get the school treatment, but the main character's journey is wildly unique as she walks a thin line between the life she had before her memories were taken from her and after she reaches school. Super fun read!
