I'm set in my ways. I run my business the I way have always done, without outside influence or input. I don't usually care about the consequences of my actions, that is ... until I met her. She is fierce, sassy, and a mother who protects her children like a lioness protecting her cubs. I have never wanted children until I see what an amazing mother she is. I'm a teacher with two teenage children, a divorcee who is independent and headstrong. I don't scare easily, but when he walks in, his presence alone sends shivers down my spine. I am not scared of the physical pain he might inflict, or the fact that he's a mafia boss. What scares me most is the way he makes my heart beat faster and my knees become jellied whenever he looks at me.
Carolee is a passionate writer whose life revolves around creating a world she can revert to when life gets in the way.
She always knew she would be a writer. Her teachers and the school librarian noticed her knack for story telling from an early age. With their encouragement, she continued to allow her imagination to come to life.
She spent most of her adult life dreaming of writing her own novels while working a 9 to 5 job. With determination, she quit her job and now concentrates on writing full time.
Writing is her passion and without it she feels incomplete. Carolee writes from her heart, from her soul.
In addition to writing, there are absolutely four things she cannot live without; chocolate, good ice-cream, cheesecake, and coffee.
This was a different kind of romance with a mafia boss and a teacher fighting for her livelihood and community. They’re chemistry was hot and I enjoyed the build up of their attraction.
Blaze is a mafia boss, Makeba is a teacher and their lives couldn’t be more different from each other. Yet they’re attracted like a magnet and they equally fought it off unsuccessfully of course😉. The passion Makeba has for her students and school is very admirable and when it came to her kids she would fight with her life. Her strength and sassiness was something Blaze was drawn to and the fact he couldn’t grasp why he was enamored was pretty hilarious to see. I liked his boldness and his actions of getting under her skin. I mean he had no shame giving Makeba a show coming out the shower and she took it all in with little embarrasement for ogling, I loved it🤣. Blaze was a powerful man in the city and the disrespect the Mayor had towards him would be his downfall. Blaze ensured the Mayor and anyone involved in his scheme was taken care of💀. I’m happy that some of Makeba rubbed off on Blaze as he helped out a young kid to straighten up and do better. The kids were great and was happy for the son was protective of his mother and the daughter could see the goodness in Blaze and encouraging her mother to give him a chance🥰
I really enjoyed the fact that this couple was mature over 40 which you don’t see in most mafia romance and wish there were more of them🥰. A great start to the series Ms. Samuda, I look forward to the next book👍🏾.
I was going leave a very dignified review, but this book calls for something different. Baaabbbyyy! This book gave me life. The two main characters are over 40 and are not playing games. They admit what they want and go for it. Makeba knows what Blaze is and tries to stay away from him, but the heart wants what it wants. Blaze has made no qualms about wanting her and he says he’ll pursue her and OMG he does. There’s nothing like a grown a** man doing grown man stuff to get his woman. When trouble comes to her door he goes into protector mode. To say I understand how he got his name is an understatement. This man is literally fire and he burns for his woman and her family. I actually loved the scenes where he did his mobster stuff. Love is not a strong enough word for those schmexy scenes. C. D. Samuda did an awesome job of representing the over 40 characters in a sensual, powerful, intelligent and vibrant way.
This my first time reading this author. I enjoyed the storyline. The characters were well defined and likable or unlike able depending on who they were. Roy needed to be b***h slapped! Anyway, liked how the Blaze and Makeaba’s relationship slowly developed and moved into love. They both deserved a HEA. Now, I’m not sure how KU gets books downloaded, but the spellings errors and grammar mistakes are crazy in this book! I can’t spell for poop, so if I catch them? PROBLEM. I still figured out what was meant. Going to read book two.
The writer gives us a pretty good story with romance, mystery, and bad boy mafia type thrown in for good measure. The story moves along at a nice pace, so that you don't experience any down time. However I feel the writer ties this story up in a nice neat bow. I was looking forward to a few run in between the ex's,the children and not to mention the mayor and his family and his secret. I think those were missed opportunities.Overall this was not a bad story,I so enjoyed the lady taking no mess and the mama bear coming out.
Dark romance is not my usual read. However I found the cast appealing. The mayor was worst than the mod boss 😂 the ex husband! not much was said about him but the mob boss was better than him. Don't get me wrong that dude was hellava scary but also lovable and just. I don't live in Chicago but they need a mob boss like this one take out the politicians first in any us city for that matter they're always the real criminals and the poorest are always their cash cows. Not just a dark romance but also a reality check. Good read.
I love reading a good book over and this is going into my re-read pile. Yes I’m going for part 2. I believe the way Makeba acted when her daughter was hurt, that if she knew it was the same guy who shot her son she would have lite him up. Blaze I know was protecting his woman, which is cool and sexy as hell. This was a great read.
I'm not sure how I feel about it. (For me) It could have had a few more details. Like where did the live? Did her dad move in? And is there any more details given in the next book? The typo's were a bit much sometimes I'm not sure why the wrong meaning and spelling are mixed up in this book.
Until Death was a very entertaining read. Loved Makeba character she was a strong woman and good mother. Loved the chemistry between Blaze and Makeba. Luca character kept me laughing. The mayor should've learned his lesson the first time. But he was power hungry and greedy. I love the story and I'm looking forward to reading the next book.
He would burn the world down to protect his family.
That is how he got the moniker of "Blaze." He didn't hesitate to set anything on fire to clean up a problem. He fell in love with Mekeba when she stood up to him with their first confrontation. She fell in lice with him when she first saw him naked in his office. Mekeba was an out out community worker who cared about the children in her neighborhood. By being around her, Blaze began to understand the importance of the school to Mekeba and relented the idea of building a mall, but heir were political power houses that stood in the way. Blaze took care of those problems so he could have his HEA with her and her children.
This was an interesting mafia romance. The only problem I had with it was that UT is in need of a serious re-editing. I understand that indie authors have limited finances but something as simple as listening to the audio of a story can root out the simple errors.so
Makeba went to a mafia don & pulled a gun because a building he owned was demolished yet her daughter is PHYSICALLY assaulted & she gives the attacker a stern warning. Make it make sense. That was eye rolling inducing. On top of that she pulls the gun & the author has her act like a silly woman & he easily disarms her. What was that?! This story was ok, i wasn't feeling the big mama (mammy) like vibe that was Makeba personality. The author wrote this like the age 45 is really 85. The 45 year Olds today aren't the same ones from 30 years ago. Makeba having 2 kids but threatening a don with a gun is something no street smart black woman would ever do unless he was a threat to her or her children, not risking it over a building. Be serious.
I really enjoyed this book. I liked that he was a bad guy that remained a bad guy despite the fact that he fell for a good woman. I gave the book 4 stars, not because the story wasn’t told well, but because of all the grammatical and spelling errors. Personally, when I read a book, I feel grammatical errors (too instead of to) and wrong names (Jamari instead of Jabari) takes me out of the flow of the book. However, there were some relatable passages with Makeba and her children that reminded me of how I interact with my daughters. I’m looking forward to Book 2.
Blaze and Makeba meet when she won’t back down from him taking over the only high school in an underprivileged neighborhood to build a mall.. There’s some shady business going on with the mayor fighting for the closure of the school in that district..So Makeba is the champion fighter for the children to get a decent education and a chance at life…Blaze is the Don of Chicago and a business man that meets his match in every way..Makeba isn’t fooled by his charm and good looks..
Interesting storyline but lacking research. Elected city officials are not federal employees. High school graduates do not take the MCAT or enter medical school without first getting a bachelor's degree. The high school demolition fiasco was totally unbelievable. Editing and grammatical errors contributed to the low rating.
Makeba could hold her own, but Blaze was the king that she didn’t realize that she needed until trouble came knocking. This was a really good mafia book. I skimmed through the sex scenes, it’s definitely worth reading. Blaze definitely took no prisoners, he was definitely ruthless.
I really enjoyed the book. It had a couple of grammatical errors, but I didn’t throw anything off too much. I like the background details and I kind of liked the goriness, something about an alpha man that will do anything to protect his woman.
Please don't mess with Antonello "Blaze" Demucci, because you will not live to regret it! Blaze was the boss of Chicago, people fell at his feet to do his bidding, but one feisty school teacher was unfazed by anything Blaze...an Blaze was hooked from the first look!
I enjoyed the simplicity of this book; but there were parts ( basically the last 50%) that were rushed, made very little sense or was just awkward. There is very little physical description of anyone, 2 characters named Sam and a weird switch in writing style and vernacular. Overall it is a cute- not quite mafia done story that has decent bones.
Really enjoyed this book from this author it was an awesome story line... Loved Makeba's character of the fierce mom and great to see Blaze big alpha that he is come to his knees for such a woman..
This story is funny and so sexy! As an over 40 reader, I love how relatable this story is to real life. The teenage kids and ex husband are all funny. The story is a must read!
Loved this book. Loved Loved Loved Makeba and Blaze. The children were well written whether character well rounded especially Amara. James's background was believable and relateable. All in all a well deserved 4 stars.
The premise was interesting but the story telling needs work. A LOT of work...I had several LOL moments due to sheer unbelievability...I wanted tonlike this story. I really did. But, it's a no for me dawg.
This was really good! I am glad that Blaze and Makeba got their HEA! That Mayor of the city was totally out of control! His middle name should be "evil"! Anyway, it was a great story and now I am reading about his younger brother and his love who is also connected to Makeba!
Loved it, loved the characters both strong and complementing each other. Now that's my mind if man 😉. I can't wait to read the next book. I would be good to have this grammar checked, have to say the series did not detract from my reading pleasure.
I thoroughly enjoyed the story and it’s characters. I found it exciting and suspenseful as well as humorous. Great job and I can’t wait to read the next segment.
I love this couple, her boldness, their maturity and his obvious instant love for her. I usually don't read dark romance but the author does it very well. Great read, practical characters, emotional and steamy.
