When Raymond Thomas received a secret phone call from the World Business Federation, his world was turned upside down.
“Like with Conroy, accidents happen, Mr. Thomas. It would be tragic if something happened to you, or your pretty wife, or to your son, Ben.
Two families, the Randall’s and Thomas navigate a world struggling with the rise of nationalism, and political conspiracy. To avert civil war, Congress calls a constitutional convention to restructure America.
When Jennifer Thomas marries Sean Murphy, who is elected governor of the newly formed Intercontinental Province, her life takes a dark turn. Faced with a choice of loyalty to America or her husband, Jennifer makes a shocking decision.
This political thriller is a warning that the deepening inequality of American life could lead to cataclysmic results.
The premise of the book is terrifying and yet very plausible. However, I was put off by the enormous time span that the book covers in a frantic pace, from the XIX century to the XXI. The characters are well-crafted and believable. It is an enjoyable read if you persevere after the initial time jump from the near future to the past in just two chapters.

Took me a while to get into the book but once it had grabbed my attention I couldn’t put it down. I found the level of detail unnecessary at times and some characters came and went too quickly. However the theme of the book was one which I found incredibly thought provoking and, as I’m on holiday in the USA at the moment, far too easy to imagine coming true!
This book is both thought-provoking and chilling. It reads as a story but portends the probable results of where we are headed. There are some minor flaws ( a 1955 Lincoln Town car?) for one but paints a very bleak and realistic picture of our future. Someone should make a movie of this!
