A windswept island, dreary and forgotten. A girl with magic in her blood, pushed to the brink of madness.
Cassie Murdoch is haunted by the black-eyed woman that killed her mother. Come find me, she unceasingly whispers to Cassie. Feeling driven to insanity, Cassie is sent away to live with her estranged grandmother. Navigating her new home on Tide Island, Cassie searches for clues to her mother’s old life and why she fled her home never to return. With help from her grandmother’s secretive errand boy, Henry, Cassie unravels a terrible family a curse that spans generations.
Henry and Cassie follow a series of clues left by her ancestors to find that Tide Island is a dangerous place, the link to a mysterious realm called the Otherworld where the black-eyed woman rules. After learning she is descended from a long line of Sea Witches, Cassie is plunged into a world of spells and secret ceremonies.
Desperate to save herself and her newfound friends from her spiraling control, Cassie searches for a way to break her curse. But in the Otherworld enemies are not as they seem, and Cassie must find whom to trust before those she loves most are lost at the hands of the black-eyed woman.
There was somehow both too much going in in this story, and absolutely nothing happening at all. There was fae, witches, gods and goddesses... it was too much.
Literally nothing important happens in the first 170 pages. Things are mentioned as if the reader is supposed to know what they are without any sort of context.
Just not my cup of tea. I read through 192 pages before I just skipped to the last chapter and read it. Frankly, I don't think I missed anything important in those pages I skipped because everything made sense still.
This was a good book. I enjoyed the folklore, and since I've read other books surrounding the same premise, the technical terms and magical terms didn't throw me off and I was in the know of what the artifacts were called. The story is relatively quick paced and try don't dilly dally on anything. I enjoyed the story this book brought to life.
This book took me on so many twists and turns I was not prepared for! I loved it especially if you like coming into your powers witch books that have a strong hint of mystery and other creatures. Its not just witches its all of the mystical
This was an interesting reading experience. I liked it young girl plagued with issues after an accident killing her .other sent to live with her grandmother she has never met. Secrets and lies but love and understanding
This book is full of magic, mystery, and scenic views. I love the light hearted humor that balances out the family secrets and trauma. Great writing, fun characters, definitely recommend!
